They will also have more than 800,000 business-appropriate accommodation options in 73,000 locations around the world, including 100,000 properties in China, via RoomIt, CWT’s hotel distribution division. Simplified Booking Process: The rapid expansion of China’s high-speed rail network is making it an attractive option for business travelers. myCWT will allow travelers to compare flight and rail options for domestic journeys in a single view, including the cost and travel time, to make more informed decisions. Travel approvals, a common requirement by companies in China, can be requested via email, SMS, the mobile app or through API integration with companies’ own internal approval systems. Multiple payment methods will be supported including WeChat Pay and AliPay, the two third-party payment providers which account for over 90% of mobile payments in the market, as well as credit cards and UATP lodge cards.  Integration: Using API connections, myCWT can be integrated with organizations’ own internal management systems including expense and approvals, office automation (OA), business process management, HR and finance, and intranet, for greater efficiency and automatic synchronization. “In 1996, CAS and CWT worked together to introduce the concept of managed corporate travel in China,” said Qu Li, Board Chairman at China Air Service (CAS), CWT's joint venture partner in China. “Since then, we have continued to pioneer together, delivering several 'industry firsts'. My last full day in Kuala Lumpur was Dec 20, 2018. My first flight was at 10:25 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. I got up very early, aiming to leave the hotel by 6:30.
There was no Uber in Kuala Lumpur, but there was the Uber replacement called Grab. I had to open an account just for this one trip to the airport. The Grab picked me up in front of my hotel at 6:25. Reaching the airport took less than an hour and cost RM 65.00, around CA$ 20.
After reaching the airport I went through security and everything, assuming I was done and would be looking for the lounge. However, it turned out that KUL airport is a little different and I had to take a shuttle to go to another section of the airport.
There were airport personnel guiding travelers through the proper gates to take the shuttle. It was crowded, but didn’t take long to board the shuttle rail. I felt like the other airport terminal was far away from the first terminal, but I finally reached it. 
My first leg of the journey was from KUL to SIN, business class on Singapore Airlines. My lounge was Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). So, I started looking for this lounge.
Asking here and there, I finally arrived at the lounge. Singapore Airlines SilverKris at KUL was a comparatively small lounge that I will review in the next post.

John Oates' Tuned Porsche 356 Won't Be His Next Maneater
Oates won’t be able to hide from private eyes while behind the wheel of this little beast.
Emory Motorsports specializes in tuning the classic Porsche 356, and rockstar John Oates of 1980s iconic band Hall & Oates now owns one of the company’s special machines. Oates asked the firm for the perfect 356, and Emory delivered.
Oates’ new car started life as a 1960 356B Cabriolet. Emory fitted a removable hardtop that gave the car an interesting flat-top silhouette, rather than the vehicle’s usual graceful silhouette for the coupe’s rear deck. The donor machine had a damaged front end, so the build team incorporated the smoother shape of the 356A at the nose and windshield frame. The 356A’s smaller bumpers also added a sleeker look.
The Porsche 356 is a classic:
Inside, there is a pair of low-back, vintage-style sport seats with cognac-colored leather. The rollbar is removable.
Power comes from Emory’s custom Outlaw-4 engine. The 2.4-liter air-cooled flat-four powerplant uses the design of Porsche’s far more modern Type 964 flat six as its basis. Twin spark plugs per cylinder, computer-controlled ignition, and custom headers make the most out of the mill’s displacement to produce 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts). A five-speed manual gearbox from an early 911 sends the output to the rear wheels.
Oates’ 356 should be quite a canyon carver, too. It uses the independent rear suspension setup from an early 911 with the addition of modern Koni adjustable shocks. Emory’s proprietary four-wheel disc brakes should bring this 1,850-pound (839-kilogram) sports car to a very rapid halt.
Oates debuted his 356 at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta at an event in late October. He won’t be able to drive it there much longer this year before chilly weather takes the fun out of driving a convertible.

Legendary Hall & Oates Guitarist Unveils His Car Alongside Celebrated Porsche Outlaw Builder Rod Emory During Porsche Cars’ 70th Anniversary Party
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Having sold some 40 million records worldwide, Hall & Oates are considered the world’s best-selling music duo in history. The record-breaking band was famously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, but what many fans don’t know is celebrated guitarist/vocalist/composer John Oates is also a long-time Porsche fan.
The consummate collaborator, Oates contacted Emory Motorsports Founder Rod Emory about creating a truly one-of-a-kind classic Porsche. As a longtime Porsche enthusiast and collector, Oates wanted the perfect Porsche 356. Working closely with Emory, Oates made it clear he wanted to preserve the elegant styling of the 356 but imbue the car with more-modern performance and other custom touches. Rod found the ideal donor car, a 1960 356B Cabriolet, and went to work alongside Oates on the build.
Long known by enthusiasts for creating the Porsche Outlaw movement with his custom 356s, Rod Emory also offers his clients more-subtle Emory Special builds. Growing up in a family of auto customizers and designers, Rod Emory created John Oates’ Emory Special using many of the same customizing techniques – and many of the same actual tools – that his grandfather Neil pioneered dating back to 1948 when he founded Valley Custom in Burbank, California. Known as one of the seminal minds in the golden age of hot-rodding, Neil built a reputation for stately, understated coachwork that Rod employs to this day at Emory Motorsports.
Oates’ 1960 356 Emory Special is no exception. The overall design further enhances the original 356 body with seamless, subtle alterations. Working together, Oates and Emory succeeded in restoring and designing one of the most beautiful 356 cars to ever grace the road. Bespoke cars like the Oates 1960 Emory Special are built to order by Emory Motorsports, beginning with damaged donor cars that Rod secures from all over the country. During the build, body modifications are done to change the 356’s profile while still retaining its iconic design language and proportions.
“When people hear custom, their minds tend to go to the outrageous, but our work is all about restraint,” explains Emory Motorsports Founder Rod Emory. “John’s 356 is perfect example. The body began life as a 1960 356B Cabriolet, which had a removable hard top. We replaced the car’s damaged nose with 356A-style bodywork, but leaned it back for a sleeker appearance. We also modified the windshield frame the same way. The removable hard top was tailored to create a more streamlined roof profile, and we integrated body-hugging 356A-style bumpers. Everything is presented in the same way a new 356 would be rolling off the line. The key difference is the subtle changes Emory Motorsports makes to the original design.”
Emory Motorsports surrounds vintage sheetmetal with later Porsche-performance DNA for Emory Special and Emory Outlaw builds. John Oates’ 1960 356 is a prime example. Power is supplied by the new Emory-Rothsport “Outlaw-4” engine. Emory collaborated with Porsche GT racing team crew chief Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport Racing to create an all-new air-cooled four-cylinder engine block, based on the dry-sump Porsche 3.6L Type 964 engine – but also incorporating the best features of three generations of the 911 powerplant. Custom cam housings, camshafts, and crankshafts are designed to work with OE Porsche engine components.
The Outlaw-4 engine makes use of the 3.6L twin-plug and dry-sump design features for the sake of performance. However, the new engine takes advantage of MSD computer-controlled ignition, augmented by a custom distributor and full-flow oiling with remote filter and cooler. John Oates’ engine is the 2.4L Outlaw-4 configuration with custom headers leading to a 911 sport muffler. It is fed by a through-hood fuel filler atop a custom 18-gallon GT Fuel Safe cell. The Outlaw-4 engine is mated to an early Porsche 911 901l aluminum-case 5-speed transmission.
Chassis modernizing was also part of the plan from the outset. Emory adapted early Porsche 911 independent rear suspension with custom-narrowed trailing arms. Adjustable Koni shocks control the ride, and Emory added front and rear swaybars to control body roll during aggressive cornering. Handling is also improved with a proprietary Emory four-wheel disc-brake system, which stops the 205/55ZR16 Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires on custom 15×6 billet alloy wheels. The wheels were powdercoated black and have mirror-polished hubs.
John Oates worked directly with Rod Emory to map out the interior cabin. Hydes cognac leather is showcased throughout. The Speedster-style seats received basketweave inserts and 2-point competition harnesses. German square-weave carpet in is augmented by traditional rubber floormats.
Other interior features include the mid-1960s Porsche 904-style triple gauge, accented by a Derrington steering wheel, an Emory Outlaw shift knob, black control knobs and escutcheons, and the radio-delete option. A removable rollbar was added in case Oates decides to track his 356.
Final exterior details really set this car apart. To complement the removable rollbar, Emory created interchangeable hard and soft tops. The re-profiled OE hardtop is pictured; the car also has a custom soft top for summer cruising.
Finished in Graphite Grey Metallic RM paint, Oates’ 1960 356 Emory Special has a few additional bespoke body modifications. These include a hood-handle delete, body-hugging bumpers, body-mounted driving lights, and a signature Emory reverse-louvered deck lid. The 200-horsepower car weighs 1,850 pounds.

Founded in 1996 by Amy and Rod Emory, Emory Motorsports initially provided turn-key prep, repairs, and logistics for vintage racers. When Rod Emory began doing custom street builds, the company evolved into one of the world’s leading resources for Porsche 356 customization and restoration.

Emory Motorsports has created some of the most stunning early Porsches ever built. The company also did a meticulous Pebble Beach Concours-recognized restoration of the most historically significant werks Porsche ever, a 356 SL Gmund that took a class victory at the 1951 24 Hours of LeMans – Porsche’s first international race win.

AT 2017be - a new member of the class of Intermediate-Luminosity Red Transients. (arXiv:1807.11676v1 [astro-ph.HE])
We report the results of our spectrophotometric monitoring campaign for AT~2017be in NGC~2537. Its lightcurve reveals a fast rise to an optical maximum, followed by a plateau lasting about 30 days, and finally a fast decline. Its absolute peak magnitude ($M_{r}$ $\simeq$ $-$12 $\rm{mag}$) is fainter than that of core-collapse supernovae, and is consistent with those of supernova impostors and other Intermediate-Luminosity Optical Transients. The quasi-bolometric lightcurve peaks at $\sim$ 2 $\times$ 10$^{40}$ erg s$^{-1}$, and the late-time photometry allows us to constrain an ejected $^{56}$Ni mass of $\sim$ 8 $\times$ 10$^{-4}$\msun. The spectra of AT~2017be show minor evolution over the observational period, a relatively blue continuum showing at early phases, which becomes redder with time. A prominent H$\alpha$ emission line always dominates over other Balmer lines. Weak Fe {\sc ii} features, Ca~{\sc ii} H$\&$K and the Ca {\sc ii} NIR triplet are also visible, while P-Cygni absorption troughs are found in a high resolution spectrum. In addition, the [Ca~{\sc ii}] $\lambda$7291,7324 doublet is visible in all spectra. This feature is typical of Intermediate-Luminosity Red Transients (ILRTs), similar to SN~2008S. The relatively shallow archival Spitzer data are not particularly constraining. On the other hand, a non-detection in deeper near-infrared HST images disfavours a massive Luminous Blue Variable eruption as the origin for AT~2017be. As has been suggested for other ILRTs, we propose that AT~2017be is a candidate for a weak electron-capture supernova explosion of a super-asymptotic giant branch star, still embedded in a thick dusty envelope.

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

This crazed mountaintop race is the second-oldest continuously operating American motorsports event after the Indianapolis 500. With the notable exceptions of the years during which the world wars were being fought plus 1935, it has been held annually since 1916. The Hill Climb is aptly named as it entails racing up a 12.4-mile slog that features not only 156 turns but a gain of nearly one vertical mile of elevation. It ends at the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak, among the tallest in the continental United States. The air is thin at the summit, with 41 percent less oxygen than at sea level, so drivers and their vehicles have to work harder to maintain power, speed, and focus. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and quads all participate. In fact, unlike most sanctioned races, there are no limits on the type of vehicle that can enter; drivers have made the climb in overpowered semis and homemade EVs. Five years ago, two-time Le Mans–class winner Patrick Long and his friend Howie Idelson decided to put on a car show. As, like just about everyone else, they love air-cooled Porsches, they focused their event on them. They named it “Luftgekühlt” because that word has uniquely complex combinations of consonants and because it happens to mean “air cooled” in German. They then invited cars that represented an obsessive’s history of air-cooled Porsches to the parking lot of an L.A. cycle shop and told friends to stop by. Now in its fifth year, this pop-up show has become the event for Porschephiles but somehow retains its compelling combination of cool congeniality, insider exclusivity, and extremely good taste in Porsches. The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

This crazed mountaintop race is the second-oldest continuously operating American motorsports event after the Indianapolis 500. With the notable exceptions of the years during which the world wars were being fought plus 1935, it has been held annually since 1916. The Hill Climb is aptly named as it entails racing up a 12.4-mile slog that features not only 156 turns but a gain of nearly one vertical mile of elevation. It ends at the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak, among the tallest in the continental United States. The air is thin at the summit, with 41 percent less oxygen than at sea level, so drivers and their vehicles have to work harder to maintain power, speed, and focus. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and quads all participate. In fact, unlike most sanctioned races, there are no limits on the type of vehicle that can enter; drivers have made the climb in overpowered semis and homemade EVs. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has been wowing car lovers since 1950. In the intervening seven decades, the event has developed from a small sports-car show and race into a weeklong car-and-lifestyle bacchanal that blankets the Monterey Peninsula in plumes of blue smoke and champagne spume. The actual concours is a must-see, and the ancillary events are more than worthwhile. Concorso Italiano showcases vintage Italian cars, with rows of overheating De Tomasos and Lancias. Legends of the Autobahn does the same for the Germans, but with less wasted fluids. The Quail is an exercise in elite excess for the oligarchic and overrestored—cars and humans alike. The Concours d’LeMons revives beloved and maligned baroque vehicles, mostly from the ’70s and ’80s. Auctions from Bonhams, Gooding, and RM Sotheby’s feature record-setting, eight-figure classics. Course Objective
Analysis: breaking down a whole element (an idea, concept, object, process, etc.) into several parts, and examining how those corresponding parts reinforce and make up the whole element.
Welcome to English 68.  As a student, you will learn how to write college-level essays, and the key to this skill is analysis.  The goal of this class is to give you the tools to absorb, process, and explain complex, abstract ideas.  The reading material and writing assignments will offer you a chance to really break down various types of writing in order to explain the complex, abstract ideas in each essay or story.
This course will also focus on the mechanics of writing.  You will get the opportunity to strengthen your grammar and vocabulary, but you will also learn how to write clear and concise language that is eloquent and sophisticated.

50 Essays (4th Edition); editor: Samuel Cohen; publisher: Bedford St. Martin’s
I will also provide essays and/or stories that are not published in the textbook.
Although it is not required, I strongly urge that you purchase a portable dictionary.  In order to really comprehend all assignments, you need to be able to understand the language, whether you are reading a story or you are writing your essay.

The final grade scale is calculated as follows:

Please note: your percentage total will be rounded up or down to create a whole final grade percentage.  For example, if your percentage total is 88.5% or higher, I will round it up to 89%.  If your percentage total is 77.4 or lower, I will round it down to 77%.
Attendance
Attendance is crucial, and you need to attend every class (unless you have a medical emergency or other difficult circumstances). In addition, I will drop any student who has accumulated more than four absences before the 11/3/2017 drop deadline.  Please note: if I drop you or if you drop the class after 9/11/2017, you will receive a “W” on your record.  All students who are still enrolled after the last drop deadline (11/3) will receive a letter grade.  Please note as well: if a student is enrolled in this class and does not show up for the first two days of class, he or she will be dropped from the class.  If I do add any students, I will first add students who are on the roster's wait list.  If there are any open slots on the roster list after I have added any students from the wait list, then I will add any other students according to registration date.  If you are not enrolled or on the wait list and you want to add, then you must provide proof that you are eligible to take ENG 68.
If you miss any classes and assignments, it is your responsibility to get the necessary information from another classmate. In order to make this policy easier on everyone, I will be passing out a sheet that will list each enrolled student's Mt. SAC email.  I want every student to be able to contact someone from the class in case of any absences.
Due Dates for Essays and Homework
Unless otherwise noted, homework assignments are due the next class session.  Due dates for all essay assignments will be printed in the prompts.  For the first essay, you will be required to write a rough draft.  I will make comments on your rough draft and hand it back to you.  You will revise your rough draft and then hand in a revision or final draft.  Please note: I only grade final drafts, and please keep in mind: you will only turn in one draft for Essays #4 and 5.  Therefore, these drafts are considered final drafts.  As for late assignments, I will enforce the following policy:
Late Homework: please see me about late homework assignments.  I usually accept late homework if you speak with me.
Rough Drafts: I do accept late rough drafts.  However, I will deduct 3% points from the final grade that the late rough draft receives.  Please note: the late penalty applies even if you turn in a revision for your late rough draft.
Revisions & Final Drafts (one draft only): I also accept late revisions.  However, I will deduct 4% points from the final grade that the revision receives.  Please note as well: if you turn in a first draft on the due date for the revision, it will be considered a late rough draft and the 3% point deduction will be applied to the late paper.
If you do not turn in any drafts, you will receive 0% points for that essay assignment.
In-class Essay: You will be required to complete one in-class essay.  If you are absent on the day this essay is scheduled, you will not be allowed to complete a make-up essay unless you provide a valid written excuse such as a doctor's note.  Please note: I will not allow any make-up final exams due to unexcused absences.
Plagiarism Policy
What is plagiarism? Plagiarism occurs when a student takes sentences or phrases from another writer and inserts these sentences or phrases into his or her writing and does not acknowledge or indicate that these are from another writer or outside source whether it is an essay, article, book, blog, etc.
You must be careful in how you present outside sources.  If you turn in any work that uses unacknowledged ideas or concepts from other writers, you will receive an F grade (0 points) with no option for a re-write. I will also report any instance of plagiarism to the school; this means that the school will investigate the report and will take appropriate action against the plagiarist.
Cell Phone Policy
If you receive a call on your cell phone, please take it outside the classroom.  Texting is not allowed inside the classroom, and if I find you texting inside the classroom, I reserve the right to confiscate your cell phone till the end of the class session.
Grading Criteria
In order for you to understand my criteria, I will outline my grading policy below:
A grade: the writing is insightful, thoughtful, and original.  It addresses the topic fully and analyzes said topic fully as well.  This means that the writing explains everything in great detail.  The organization is clear and has a solid structure, so there is no confusion on the part of the reader.  The writing is almost free of any grammatical errors.  Plus, the writing goes beyond simple sentence-structure and contains language and sentences that are eloquent and sophisticated.
B grade: the writing clearly addresses the topic and analyzes it to some degree.  It is effectively organized and is well developed with supporting detail.  The writing is mostly free from grammatical errors, and the writing has a good amount of variation in language and sentence structure.
C grade: the writing adequately addresses the topic, shows some good organization, and shows some sort of analysis.  The writing may fail to go into detail when it comes to analysis, and it may rely on unsupported generalizations.  There also may be some errors that show inadequate understanding of the subject matter.  The language and grammar tend to be awkwardly constructed so that it muddies the writer’s intent.
D grade: the writing has no clear thoughts or analysis, and it tends to be more in a simple book report style that only summarizes.  There are significant errors in grammar and mechanics and many unsupported generalizations.
F grade: the writing fails on all aspects.
