University of Tennessee Fined Millions for Cash Payments to Athletes

The N.C.A.A. punished the University of Tennessee football program for recruiting violations and direct cash payments to athletes, imposing an $8 million fine and taking away scholarships for what it described as a culture of brazenly skirting rules in hopes of chasing wins.The N.C.A.A.’s report ran through numerous examples, including “at least 110 impermissible hotel nights” and “180 impermissible meals” and regular cash payments — $5,000 here, $6,000 there — given directly to parents of recruits by former Tennessee Coach Jeremy Pruitt and others in the program, who worked to camouflage the payments from the athletic department’s official books. The value of the forbidden benefits totaled about $60,000, the report said.Tennessee only avoided the harshest possible penalty, a postseason ban, because of what the N.C.A.A. described as an “exemplary” response while cooperating with investigators.The penalties announced on Friday — which the school agreed to — pose a potential roadblock for a historical powerhouse that took a big step in 2022 toward reprising its past glory in the ultracompetitive Southeastern Conference, winning at least 10 games and finishing in the top 10 of the Associated Press college football poll for the first time since 2007. The $8 million fine was designed to equal money that could be earned by the university from bowls during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.Pruitt, who was fired in January 2021 as Tennessee investigated the payment scheme, cannot be hired without N.C.A.A. approval for six years and would be suspended immediately for one year if he were hired within that period.But the lack of a postseason ban also signaled a potential shift in how the N.C.A.A. adjudicates infractions with more of a focus on punishing individuals directly involved in illicit activities.The school’s chancellor and its athletic department expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the ruling — emphasizing its ability to still compete.“We recognize this was a serious case, and the penalties we received from the Committee on Infractions are consistent with what we expected and negotiated with the NCAA enforcement staff last year,” said Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman in a statement published on the university’s website.Tennessee can still compete for a conference or national championship, but its recruiting will be hindered. The football program will see a reduction of 28 scholarships during the probationary period, though it was credited with 16 reductions it self-imposed during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years.As part of the punishments against the University of Southern California football program in 2010 for improper benefits received by running back Reggie Bush, the N.C.A.A. stripped U.S.C. of 30 scholarships over a three-year period. After averaging more than 10 wins per season from 2000 to 2009, and winning six bowl games and two national championships, U.S.C. won fewer than nine games a season from 2010 to 2019, with three bowl wins and zero national titles.For a program like Tennessee, which jockeys for recruits with powerhouses like Alabama and Georgia in the talent-rich SEC, even the slightest impediment could stifle what had been one of college football’s biggest turnarounds last season. Under second-year coach Josh Heupel, the Volunteers raced out to an 8-0 start, climbing to No. 2 in the A.P. poll heading into a road matchup at No. 1 Georgia, the reigning national champion.Though Tennessee lost that game, and would lose again at unranked South Carolina two weeks later, the team finished the season on a high note with a resounding victory over Clemson in the Orange Bowl.The program looked primed to compete at the top of the SEC after more than a decade of subpar seasons — and nearly a quarter-century removed from its last national championship.As the N.C.A.A. justified the reason for its decision on the series of penalties, it pointed to its new constitution, adopted in 2022, which says it must try to not “punish programs or student-athletes not involved nor implicated in the infraction(s).”Comparing the Tennessee ruling with how the N.C.A.A. dealt with U.S.C. or the case of Oklahoma State men’s basketball, which was banned from the 2022 postseason after an F.B.I. investigation into corruption in college basketball, shows how times have changed. According to Maureen Weston, a law professor at Pepperdine University, that shift can be understood as the product of mounting public and legal pressure against the N.C.A.A.“They’re changing so much because they’ve just been hammered in the courts,” Weston said, adding that “there’s so much going on and there’s so much criticism of the N.C.A.A.”When asked why the N.C.A.A. levied penalties against a coaching staff that wasn’t involved in the violations, Kay Norton, president emeritus at the University of Northern Colorado and the chief hearing officer for the infractions panel, said that Tennessee had “demonstrated a unwillingness to even pretend to follow the rules.”“Remember, the N.C.A.A. is concerned with protecting the student-athlete, but not necessarily with restrictions that may affect the ability of recruiters going forward,” Norton said. Main & Recurring pairing on Station 19

They have limit of scene time when come to relationship between Main & recurring character. They mostly focus only one couple at a time.

Season 1 we have JJ for Dean and Grant for Travis. Both of them appear separately (Grant have scene on Episode 4 / 7 / 9 and 10. While JJ get Episode 2 /3 / 5 / 8 and 9. Only ep they both appear is Ep9 when Dean decide to stop relationship with JJ AND Travis decide to pursue with Grant & kiss him for the first time.

Season 2 we have more of this type of relationship. But pattern almost the same. Only one paring that get most of scenetime.

Grant Episode 1 / 2 / 5 / 7 and 8

Lucas Episode 1 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 / and 11-15

Reggie Episode 11-12

Jenna Episode 11-13 and mention in 17

Nikki Episode 14 16 and 17

Grant contined his relationship with Travis while Lucas start his with Vic later. They ship sail together few episode until Travis & Grant is over. After that Lucas & Vic rising strong (Lcuas appear in 9 of 11 Epsode since Vicley become real and always connect to Vic) until Lucas is death in Epiosde 15.

Jenna & Ryan become a thing at the middle of Vicley time BUT just few scene without any “WOW” moment. And Jenna only get mention in Season finale.

Same to Reggie, she share scene with Pruitt only few scene in 2 episode she appear. And remain unseen until season finale.

They introduce Nikki to us in Ep14 but become a thing in Ep16 when Vicley story already end.

We can see that Lucas is heavy recurring character And his relationship with Vic have most scene time/quality compare to another Main&recuring pairing. Even relaionship between Main character can’t beat them if you ask me.

Ben and Miranda, as long term charcter in this universe. They stand strong above every Main&recurring type. Their scene time is not much but we always aware of their couple status.

Season 3

Dean & Nikki story likely to be uppped in term of scene time in Season 3. Since right now Station 19 don’t have active of Love story between Main&recurring character. And they even have connect/conflict with another Main&Main paring (Maya & Jack).

Additionally, Season 3 likely to crossover with Grey’s Anatomy everyweek. maybe they ship Dean from Nikki to Dr. Maggie Pierce if writer decide to sink Maggie & Jackson. Maggie & Dean can be NO.2 crossover couple next to Ben & Miranda.

Another intersting one is Dylan. He’s potentially love interest for Travis. But problem is Travis have his own issue right now. We may have to wait until Travis clear his charge before reconnect with Dylan. Except they use timejump (again).

Reggie & Jenna , really not sure what will happen to them. Pruitt have less scene time and have another job. Ryan may gone rogue (and I really don’t want that). We have to wait and see that Ryan /Pruitt will come back to season 3 or not.

Crossover may give a chance for EMT & Police to engage more on main story both Station 19 & Grey’s Anatomy , Maybe...

TAMPA — Jordan Montgomery, the 27-year-old lefty who is a favorite to grab a rotation spot with injuries to James Paxton and Luis Severino, looked like an ace Tuesday.

“He has been good all spring,’’ Aaron Boone said of Montgomery, who worked four scoreless innings and retired all 12 batters he faced in the Yankees’ 4-2 loss to the Blue Jays, striking out five. “From his bullpens to uptick in velocity he was really good. The way he was able to finish, too. We actually went down and we had him throw another 10 or 11 pitches in the bullpen. The curveball was good and the changeup was really good.’’

Paxton will play catch Wednesday for the first time since his Feb. 5 back surgery.

Reggie Pruitt, a minor league outfielder for the Blue Jays, made a spectacular catch in left field to deny Miguel Andujar of an extra-base hit that would have scored a run instead of ending the inning. With his back to the plate, Pruitt dived toward the wall and made an over-the-shoulder grab that elicited an ovation from Yankee fans.

Yankees left for Florida’s East Coast following Tuesday’s loss at Steinbrenner Field. They play the Marlins in Jupiter on Wednesday and the Nationals on Thursday in West Palm Beach. As of Monday, Andujar, Gio Urshela, Michael Tauchman and Clint Frazier were on the traveling list. Deivi Garcia starts against the Marlins and Jonathan Loaisiga versus the Nationals.

Born February 19, 1931 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William H. Painter and Mollie Hawkins Painter, and husband of the late Ruby Rae “Cricket” Rushton Painter. Mr. Painter served in the U. S. Army Reserve during the Korean War. He was the owner of B&P Septic Tank, Inc., a member of Beaumont Baptist Church, and attended Bible Truth Chapel. Survivors include his children, Joey Brice, Debra Dunagin (Brian) of Spartanburg, SC, and Tammy Pruitt (Eddie) of Pauline, SC; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; niece, Patty Watkins (Mike) of Clemson, SC; nephews, Max Painter (Angie) and Terry Vess (Donna) all of Spartanburg, SC, Tim Painter of Clinton, SC and Carroll Painter (Marsha) of NC; and special friend, Patty Buchanan of Boiling Springs, SC. HBJ names 2018 Heavy Hitters, the city’s top commercial real estate brokers – Houston Business Journal

Meet Houston’s 2018 Heavy Hitters of commercial real estate.

The Houston Business Journal annually recognizes the city’s top commercial real estate brokers based on their gross dollar volume of deals completed the previous year.

The Heavy Hitters represent six sectors — office tenant, office landlord, industrial, retail, land and investment — and are listed below alphabetically. Find out where the Heavy Hitters rank in each sector at a reception on May 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wynden on Post Oak. Event details are available here.

A representative from each brokerage signed off on brokers’ 2017 gross dollar volume of deals. Transactions that were completed as part of a team were divided in proportion to the nominee’s share of the commission. To be eligible, a broker must be based in Houston, but his/her deals did not have to be. Brokers are listed under the sector that represents the majority of their 2017 deals.

This year, CBRE had the most Heavy Hitters with 18 brokers, followed by Cushman & Wakefield of Texas with 11 and Avison Young with 10.

Tennessee beginning work to remove Butch Jones from videoboard

Tennessee has begun the process of removing a picture of former football head coach Butch Jones from the video board at Neyland Stadium.

Jones spent five seasons at Tennessee after arriving from Cincinnati in 2012. During his time in Knoxville, he led the Volunteers to a 34-27 record and three victories in bowl games. Jones also received the honor of sharing the back of the video board at Neyland Stadium with legendary figures Reggie White and Robert Neyland. Soon, that will no longer be the case.

According to The Times Free Press, work is scheduled to begin to remove Jones’ image. Jones’ space on the video board was once occupied by Philip Fulmer, who led Tennessee to the 1998 national championship.

Jones was fired last November after Tennessee got off to a disappointing 4-6 start. He is now reportedly in talks with Alabama regarding an offensive analyst position.

Maybe new head coach Jeremy Pruitt will end up with his mug on the board, or perhaps another prominent alumnus, such as Peyton Manning.

If you are a fan of wrestling or like twisted, convoluted tales that will tax your imagination, Wrestle Maniacs is for you. Some of the stories are sad, some are hilarious, and some are down right frightening. Twisted. Horrific. Every punishment you can imagine in the ring and many you never would have dreamt of, are contained herein.

Gabino Iglesias had me gagging and trying not to upchuck as I read his brutal, bloody story, El Neubo Sant’s Last Fight.

Adam Howe had me laughing my ass off, as Reggie, a shit magnet, finds himself in some of the most hilariously funny, yet dangerous situations in the book, in Rassle Hassle.

Gory, gross, disgusting and some seemingly normal stories, along with some horror, scifi, mystery, thrills and chills. Off the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
