'Kapřík' Supermassive Cargo Freighter
i enjoy building these platforms too much
with a whopping 16 engines (some of which are epic/rare), it is capable of a tremendous 2,5GN of thrust, pushing this hefty 1 947 ton beast to a reliable 273,05km/s
each wing producing 1800/s of each thruster fuel type, it should be capable of sustaining full thrust for an indefinite period (as long as it is kept fully supplied with water/iron ore/carbon)[and you use 16 normal-quality thrusters lmao]
the main cargo hold also has a capacity of 899 item slots, which can be further increased with quality cargo bays
the main asteroid processing center, not much to say about it. just dont use the advanced processing recipes too much since they're actually less efficient for producing water/carbon/iron ore (i didnt check that beforehand?? fortunately it wasnt hard to revert some crushers back to the original recipes)[i had to due to a lack of water production and excessive calcite production]
the thick boy, the nuclear reactor placed scarily close to the front, the ore smelter and ammo/rocket production center.
9 piercing ammo assemblers and 6 rocket assemblers should be enough right???!! so far i havent had any problems yet :DD
it might be massively overbuilt, and i will probably never use the 900 slot capacity of this beast
the Kapřík will initially be used for personal transport to Aquilo, but will later serve as a universal hauler of all planetary exports to make quantum processors on Aquilo (considering they need one final product from each planet)

the kapřík takes its name from the czech word for carp :)
my original inspiration for the build was the imperial cutter from elite dangerous, however the initial finished build just looked like a massive penis so i had to flatten it
the new hammerhead shape also probably helps with faster asteroid acquisition, and makes sure the south wings dont get any head on collisions with asteroids

Research sheds light on using multiple CubeSats for in-space servicing and repair missions
As more satellites, telescopes, and other spacecraft are built to be repairable, it will take reliable trajectories for service spacecraft to reach them safely. Researchers in the Department of Aerospace Engineering in The Grainger College of Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are developing a methodology that will allow multiple CubeSats to act as servicing agents to assemble or repair a space telescope.
Published in The Journal of the Astronautical Sciences, their method minimizes fuel consumption, guarantees that servicing agents never come closer to each other than 5 meters, and can be used to solve pathway guidance problems that aren't space related.
"We developed a scheme that allows the CubeSats to operate efficiently without colliding," said aerospace Ph.D. student Ruthvik Bommena. "These small spacecraft have limited onboard computation capabilities, so these trajectories are precomputed by mission design engineers."
Bommena and his faculty adviser Robyn Woollands demonstrated the performance of the algorithm by simulating two, three or four vehicle swarms simultaneously transporting modular components between a service vehicle and a space telescope undergoing in-space servicing.
"These are difficult trajectories to compute and calculate, but we came up with a novel technique that guarantees its optimality," Bommena said.
Bommena said the most difficult aspect is the scale of the distances. The James Webb Space Telescope's orbit is about 1.5 million kilometers away, at the sun-Earth Lagrange Point 2. It's where the gravitational force of the sun and Earth balance each other, making it the perfect place in space for deep-space observation satellites to maintain orbit while facing away from the sun.
"Without getting too technical, we used indirect optimization methods to guarantee that the output solution is fuel optimal. Direct methods do not guarantee that."
"We also incorporated the anti-collision path inequality constraints into the optimal control formulation as a hard constraint, so the spacecraft do not violate the constraint at any point during the trajectory."
Bommena explained that traditional direct or indirect methods with constraints, such as collision-avoidance, break the trajectory into multiple arcs, increasing the complexity exponentially.
"Our methodology allows the trajectories to be solved as single arcs. We are just going from the starting point directly to the destination point. It's more fuel optimal and more computationally efficient."
Another major outcome from the research is the development of a novel target-relative circular restricted three-body problem dynamical model.
"We needed to mitigate the numerical challenges that come from the large distance between the sun and the Earth," Bommena said. "To do that, we first shifted the center of the frame along the x-axis from the sun-Earth barycenter to the location of Lagrange point L2 and then derived the equations of motion relative to the target spacecraft. We also introduced a new distance unit by applying a scaling factor that proportionally adjusts in relation to the original distance measurement."
Bommena said he and Woollands worked on this project for about a year and a half. His breakthrough came on a long-distance flight.
"The math was working on paper. The major problem we had was wrestling with numerics. I was coding during a long flight. I tried a couple of things and suddenly the solution converged. At first, I didn't believe it. That was a very exciting moment and the next few days felt awesome."
Bommena said although the application for this work is to make in-space servicing and assembly safer and more efficient, the methodology they developed is very versatile and can be used in other trajectory optimization scenarios with different constraints.

That's been rebuilt, improved, and tuned to fit the fightin' we do today. My pa, though, decided not to stick to those designs. Don't ask me why; fella was always been eccentric. He'd painted a face on his sentries — for fun, I s'pose. "
" The Level 1 model was all about simplicity — semi-automatic firin', single-barrel system. Had to fine-tune the motion tracker so it wouldn't waste ammo on tumbleweeds or shadows. That took some work. Early prototypes? They'd lock onto anything that moved, includin' teammates. Let's just say I went through a few repairs on account o' friendly fire. Level 1 sentry, it's designed to deploy fast — give dem enemies something to chew on and hold the line. Simple, sturdy, and gets the job done. "
" Them retractable rear legs? Key to keepin' it stable. Gunpowder explosions from each round generate recoil — a force that'd send it tumblin' like a drunk Demo if it weren't for those legs absorbin' the momentum. That's what we engineers call inelastic collision mitigation. But when you upgrade to Level 2 or 3, that recoil ramps up, so the legs extend further, givin' it a wider base to keep it steady under heavier firepower. "
" Now, compared to my pa's sentries, there's a heap o' differences. Them old models, well, they were somethin' special for their time, but they didn't have the modular design or upgrade paths we've got now. Back then, the sentry had a more basic motion-tracking system — heck, I even took one apart once, just to see what made it tick. Lemme tell ya, it could shoot on its own if somethin' wandered into its line of sight — thanks to them sensors or tracking systems. But the rotation? That had to be done manually. Ain't like what I've got here. This thing? It covers a lot more ground, shoots anything that steps into its perimeter — automatic, no need for no manual control. Took me a few months to get it right, but that there was one o' the biggest upgrades from them old designs. "
" Level 2 was where things got real tricky, " he continued. " Dual rotational minigun barrels and a cyclical ammo feed system — that required a whole new way of connectin' the main power supply to the ammo housing. The first few models didn't last long under pressure. Overheatin' was one of the main issue — those dual barrels'd warp or jam without proper ventilation, so I added a coolant system to circulate fluid through the barrels and keep 'em from burnin' out. "
" Level 3? That's when rockets came into the picture — target-guided, too. Addin' that rocket arm meant reworkin' the rear housin’ to handle the extra weight and firepower. But the hardest part? Power balance. Had to make sure them rockets could fire while keepin' the barrels operatin' without a hitch. Blew up more than one o' these tryin' to get it right. "
" These sentries were top-heavy, so I had to make a few adjustments during the iteration process — see why my pa didn't stick with them designs. I had to use heavier steel for them legs, get that center of gravity as low as I could — while makin' sure it don't add too much weight to the buildin'. Ain't easy carryin' this whole contraption across the battlefield, y'know? "
