Before we get to the box... Here's another update from the toy box.

Combat Carl returns in TOY STORY 5, he'll be voiced by Ernie Hudson. Carl Weathers previously voiced him, but he passed away a year ago. Pixar usually nails it in casting, and that's a good get for the character(s). Will it be the same mini ones seen in TOY STORY 4? The one we met at the motel in TOY STORY OF TERROR!? Maybe all of them? A new one? Either way, you gotta have Combat Carl. He was a big part of Jessie's little arc in OF TERROR! - my favorite TOY STORY anything to have come out of this franchise since the release of the third film, and Jessie is said to be the focus of TOY STORY 5... So, makes sense!

The closer we get to the movie existing, the more trickles out.

Box office...

Third place is THE KING OF KINGS, which tracks, because it was Easter weekend. I expect a hefty drop afterwards, but the film slipped 9% and has made $45m to date here and $49m everywhere. Cost $15m to make, so I imagine a lot more Biblical animated movies will come from Angel. Complete w/ QR code PSAs trying once more to astroturf their sales!

7th place goes to GKIDS' release of COLORFUL STAGE! THE MOVIE: A MIKU WHO CAN'T SING. $2.8m from 800 locations, $10m everywhere.

New opener SNEAKS - seemingly TOY STORY but with footwear... Shoe Story... From distributor Briarcliff Entertainment, fell outside of the Top 10. Playing in around 1,500 cinemas, SNEAKS only took in $530k... Woof... My cinema didn't get the movie, and I've heard from some that it's unfortunately a misfire. It had some great people involved (Rob Edwards and Chris Jenkins directed, they have solid resumes), in fact it was almost helmed by Pixar vet and frequent Brad Bird collaborator Teddy Newton. I still await a feature film directed by him, for he was supposed to do this pretty edgy picture for Pixar that entered development around 2012, but never got formally announced by Disney or Pixar, nor went anywhere. Then he was at Paramount Animation for a bit, Warner too, hopped around some, but has never done a feature. Only his pretty solid 2D/CG hybrid Pixar short DAY & NIGHT that ran before TOY STORY 3... And also BOYS NIGHT OUT, a 2003 short that was apparently a re-cooked deleted scene from THE IRON GIANT.

Anyways, SNEAKS looks to come and go, and will rotate on a streamer somewhere.

The PRINCESS MONONOKE re-release dropped 69%, has made $17m to date, plays in 40 theaters.

THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP plays in 42 theaters, having lost 43 this week. 67% drop, $8.8m domestic / $11m worldwide.

FLOW, still floating somewhere. $26m+ worldwide. Looks like MOANA 2 and MUFASA finally packed their bags and left.

Again, it's relative quiet time until ELIO gets here, and honestly, that may be a quiet opener too. I certainly hope it's a big hit, we need to see a Pixar original/non-sequel actually make back its ridiculous budget in a post-COVID breakout era. Even a $350m-ish gross, great for a sub-$100m DreamWorks movie like THE WILD ROBOT, would be considered a failure for ELIO. $496m was called just that for ELEMENTAL. Ludicrous curve these things are graded on. The Walt Disney Company really needs to adjust to the field here.

A good solution for Disney and Pixar is to simply not blow $200m+ on these things. A sequel, maybe, but something less familiar? Nah. A lower budget doesn't HAVE to be a bad thing. In fact, one could take more risks with less, so long as it's not a crunchy production made under screwy regulations or lack thereof. (Like what happens, in say, Vancouver's animation sphere.) Think Disney Animation Florida making LILO & STITCH for $80m in comparison to the main unit in Burbank sinking $140m into TREASURE PLANET. L&S did well in theaters, exploded on home video, and is beloved to this day, TREASURE PLANET bombed hard but it did get a deserved following afterwards. I love both movies, myself.

Like, why can't Pixar - and WDAS for that matter - just have solid units outside of California making smaller, lower budget, quirkier movies that don't need to climb Mount Everest in order to turn a profit? I know why, but it's a nice thought to have.

Because this just isn't sustainable. ELIO looks to be the first Pixar original movie that is scrubbed of anything "autobiographical"... Supposedly the thing that caused SOUL, LUCA, TURNING RED, and ELEMENTAL to "flop"... Never mind that three of those movies never saw a proper theatrical release, couldn't because of a literal deadly virus... As in one that opens wide, and lasts for months...

I heard through the trenches that the original version of ELIO that was being directed by Adrian Molina mirrored what it was like for him growing up gay - a kid who feels alone on Earth and finds community with aliens... Like yeah, and that was the "autobiographical" thing that had to be pulled from the film to make it more "universal". Now, what happens if that movie fails? What are Disney bean counters going to blame it on then?

They'll come up with something. No "space movies", no "alien movies". Remember how MARS NEEDS MOMS flopping - way back in 2011 - convinced Disney heads that people won't see movies about Mars, and that lead to JOHN CARTER OF MARS losing the OF MARS? To now just being a guy's name? And then some 4 years later, Fox released THE MARTIAN - before being bought by Disney - and it did really really well? Dingus corporate stooges spending too much money on movies that they try way too hard to sand off for an audience that would probably hate it for other reasons because that's just where we are right now lol. And if those tariffs really go into affect, Disney's not gonna have the Chinese box office that they so need for a $200m+ endeavor to break even... So, yeah, as you could tell, I think Disney is stuck in a weird self-destructing cycle that someone with guts has got to break them out of. Make me the CEO, then!

Okay, this one was a bit of an obscure find and a real pain to nail down 🤣 A real "blink and you'll miss it" moment. All of my info for this post came from one in-game poster.

It's shown right outside the door to the Division of Cardiac Surgery (left) in "Waiting" and then again inside Zayne's Office after he gives the protaganist Grandma Josephine's letter (right).

One winter day, at Nate's house in Aspertia City, Nate was waiting for something in his room with his childhood friend Hugh and their partner Pokémon, Dewott and Servine, looking at Nate's smartphone screen.

"I heard the results would come out today, but will I pass Hugh..? Please! I want to pass! Please, please..!" "Dew..!" "I'm just waiting for the results of your document screening with you, but why am I nervous, too? So when will your results come out?" "Vine..!"

What they were waiting for was the results of Nate's document review.

Nate had written and sent his resume to Gear Station with his teacher Cheren at Trainers' School a few days ago, and when the document screening results came out a few days later, Nate waited for the results to arrive on his smartphone with Hugh and their partners, thinking that being with his precious friends would make him feel less nervous.

"They said the results would come out at this time….. Could it be that I failed and that's why they aren't notifying me..!?" "Hey Nate! Don't say such ominous things!" "But Hugh..! I'm really anxious right now..!" "You're never failed! So don't be anxious!"

Then Nate's mother opened the closed door and said

"Nate, I got a letter for you" "W..What? A letter? Where did it come from?" "Well… the delivery boy who gave me this letter said, it was from a place called Gear Station." "Gear Station..?" "By the way, Gear Station is the place you sent your resume to a few days ago, right?" "Yes… You are right…." "Hey..Hey! Maybe that letter is your result…!" "R..r..really?! Mom! Nate received a 'Letter from Gear Station' from his mother.

The letter was in an envelope with the Gear Station logo neatly stamped in black wax.

"Hey Hey..! Open it..!" "Oh..! Okay..! Please..! I want to pass! Please, please..!"

Nate carefully opened the envelope with a trembling hand and read the contents of the letter in the envelope

The letter contained the following text:

Dear Nate. We sincerely congratulate you on your passing. You are now a worker at our Gear Station. However, if you do not come to Gear Station by the day posted below, your document screening pass will be automatically canceled, so please make sure to come by the specified date. [20xx. x. xx. 17:00] Also, please scan the QR code below and watch the Gear Station worker training video. [▒] Once again, we sincerely congratulate you on your passing. Gear Station

After reading the letter, Nate was silent for a while and then suddenly shouted loudly.

"………" "Nate? Hey Nate! Are you okay?" "Dew..?" "Vine..?" "………." "What was written in that letter.." "Yaaaay-!!!!! I passed it!!!!!"

So, startled by his sudden shout, the people hesitated to sit down on the spot and the Pokémons are fainted

But Nate was so excited about his Pass news that he didn't know about it

"Ah! I have to tell Cheren about this! Dewott! Let's go to Trainers' School! Hugh and Servine, come with me!"

Then, when he called his Dewott and it didn't answer, Nate finally calmed down.

"Dewott?Dewott?! Dewott!" "……" "…Huh? Are you okay?" "Me and your mom are fine, but Pokémons seems to have fainted." "Oh my! Pokémons are fainted!" "I think you'd better go to the Pokemon center on your way." "Okay Mom." "I'm glad there's a Pokemon center next to the school" "You're right, I'm so glad too, Hugh."

Nate and Hugh put their Pokemon in Poké Ball and went to the Pokemon Center next to Trainers' School

"Then we'll go to school!" "We'll be back Ma'am!" "Take care, kids!"

Moments later, Nate and Hugh from the Pokémon Center went to Trainers' School next door, where they met Cheren, who was just outside the school

"Huh? Cheren~!" "Hi, Cheren!" "Hello, Nate and Hugh"

Nate told Cheren that he passed

"Cheren! I finally passed!" "Oh! I see! Congratulations on passing, Nate!"

Cheren congratulated him and patted Nate's head.

"Eheheh.. It's all thanks to you that you helped me so much! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have passed!" "I just helped you write your resume. You made the content on it yourself, didn't you? Your dreams and passion made you pass." "Oh! I see!" "You mean, Nate's dreams and passion and Cheren's help made Nate what it is now, right?" "You could say that too"

Cheren glanced at his smartphone for a moment, then made a suggestion to Nate.

"Then since you've come all the way here, why don't you leave now?" Fortunately, the Gift Train is stopping here, so you can probably get on that train." "What? Right now?" "Yes, right now, do you like it?"

The suggestion was that he take the Gift Train, which stops at the Trainers' School, which also serves as the gift reception center, and go to the Gear Station.

Nate liked Cheren's suggestion, but he was hesitant to accept it because he hadn't packed his bags and, most importantly, he felt like he was leaving suddenly without telling his mother.

Then Cheren and Hugh said to a hesitant Nate

"It's okay if you don't pack up, Nate." "All the necessities are provided there." "Really?!" "And I'll make sure to tell your mom, Nate." So don't worry and go to Gear Station! You should go make your dream come true!" "Thank you Hugh..!" "You're welcome, We're friends!"

Nate accepted Cheren's suggestion

"Okay! Then we're leaving right now!" "Then we'd better hurry! Gift Train will soon go to Gear Station!" "W..What?!"

Nate and Cheren rushed to the back of the Trainers' School building where a Gift Train was stopped

"Now! Nate! Follow me!" "Y..Yes Sir!" "See ya! Nate!" "See ya Hugh! Tell my mom I'll be back soon!" "Okay!"

In front of the driver's cabin entrance of the Gift Train stopped on the playground behind the Trainers' School building, Boss Ingo was receiving a delivery status report from the delivery boy who had just returned from finishing his delivery.

"I came back from delivery, Boss Ingo!" "You arrive, right on schedule. So have you completed all the deliveries?" "Yes Boss!" "I also gave you the task of delivering letters that I wrote, Did you deliver the letter as well?" "Of course Boss!" "Okay, I'll trust you. Because you're one of the few workers I trust the most." "Oh. That's too much for me."

Ingo pulled a small pocketwatch out of his coat pocket and looked at the pocketwatch and told the delivery boy

"We don't have much time left. Please board the train as soon as possible." "Yes Sir!"

Ingo, who had confirmed that the delivery boy had boarded the Gift Train through a doorway in another train car, was about to board the driver's cabin when someone suddenly called out loudly to Ingo.

"BOSS INGO!!! WAIT!!!"

Ingo frowned and turned his head toward the sound, where he saw Cheren, the manager of the gift reception center in Aspertia City, and a boy panting and breathing.

"Huff..Huff..! they..! haven't..! Huff..Huff..! left..yet..! Huff..Huff..!"

Ingo spoke to Cheren in a cold voice with discontent

"Why."

Cheren introduced Nate to Ingo and asked if Nate could also board the Gift Train.

"Huff..Huff..! This is Nate, the new worker at Gear Station, you know him, right?" "Yes. Of course I know him. Nate was questionable, and boarded the Gift Train

'Boss Ingo and Cheren don't want to talk about Boss Emmet. What happened to him?'

Nate looked around curiously inside the driver's cabin of the gift train.

"Whoa..! This is the driver's cabin where Boss Ingo drives..!" "Do not touch anything." "Yes sir! I won't touch anything!"

The driver's cabin was equipped with a control panel with various complex devices to make the train move according to its name, and on the other wall was a door with a small window to another compartment and two cube-shaped engines, One was an engine that generated energy by burning flames inside and the other was covered with black cloth because it was no longer in use

Nate wondered what was covered in black cloth.

"Huh? What's that thing covered with black cloth over there? Is that an engine, too?" "You don't need to know about that garbage, it will be removed sometime soon." "Oh… I see…"

But Ingo didn't tell him, so he didn't know what it was

"Now then, all aboard. Chandelure. prepare for departure!" "Chandel~"

Ingo pulled Poké Ball out of his pocket and let his Chandelure out

"Chandelure. Do it." "Chandel!"

And Chandelure started charging the engine's energy by shooting purple flames towards the inside of the engine

"Whoa! It's a Boss Ingo's Chandelure! Its flame is burning so beautifully!" "Chandel~♪" "Don't touch it, it's disturbing." "Aww.. Okay…" "Chan….."

And when the energy was charged to some extent and Chandelure stopped shooting flames, Ingo manipulated the control panel's devices

Then the train took off like an airplane

"WHOAAAA! The train is flying-!!!!!" "Is this your first time on a flying train? Ah. It could be the first time for you." "This is so AWESOME! Boss Ingo!" "Be quiet. It's disturbing my driving." "Okay..!"

Nate looked out the window at the snowy landscape, trying not to disturb Ingo, who was driving the train.

Next time I'll be on Boss Ingo's train as a Delivery worker! And I will help Boss Ingo hard! But where is Boss Emmet? As far as I remember, they were always together…'

Meanwhile, the “delivery boy” who delivered the letter to Nate's house, who was in the train car next to the driver's cabin, secretly watched Nate through a small window in the door as he stood right next to Ingo, looking out the window.

'Well well, The letter I delivered was a passing letter. It would have been better if it was a failed letter…! I hope that New Worker doesn't disturbing me, The Most Elite!'

walmart proudly supports this strip of land by the street! here are some flowers with wilting leaves. its employees have to pay out-of-pocket for their uniforms. my friend once got fined by the city because she organized a community pick-up of the riverfront, which was technically private property.
