Review: Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean
Review: Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean
Rating: 4.5🌈 Murder mysteries are a favorite trope so discovering a new author and series of both made my day. Especially when the novel’s storylines and characters turns out to be so riveting and absolutely beautifully executed. Dal Maclean’s Bitter Legacy, the first book in a series of the same name, is a gripping tale of multiple murders, intense law enforcement investigations, with a…

my most anticipated LGBTQ+ books of 2016 + 2017
New releases, whoo!!
Stream Raiders #1 by Sara Raasch (forthcoming, 2017) – YA novel about pirates and queer romance, and that’s literally all I know but it’s enough. *swoons*
Gena/Finn by Hannah Moskowitz (2016) – wlw romance in which 2 girls in the same fandom meet and fall in love online. This sounds so fanfictiony, aka MY JAM EXACTLY.
The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich (forthcoming, 2017) – Two teen guys who are also SPIES have to compete for the affections of a girl for Reasons but end up falling for each other instead.
The Ghost of Buxton Manor by Jonathan L. Ferrara (2016) – A boy moves into a house (Buxton Manor, presumably) that’s haunted by a century-old gay ghost. This is some kind of Peter Pan retelling and I am SO HERE FOR IT.
27 Hours by Tristina Wright (forthcoming, 2017) – I can’t even sum up the summary, it’s just too epic and awesomely intriguing. A sci-fi thriller with space colonies and “a stellar cast of queer teenagers.” Give it to meeeee.
Autoboyography by Christina Lauren (forthcoming, 2017) – Two boys who fall in love in a creative writing class in Utah. One of them is Mormon. This is different enough that I’m definitely intrigued.
Tattoo Atlas by Tim Floreen (2016) – Cheating a little by adding this to the list because I’ve already read it, but I couldn’t NOT rec it. Read it a few days ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. (review here) Very darkly thrilling and very gay, my favorite things.
Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat (2016) & the short stories Green but for a Season (2016) and The Summer Palace (2017) – I’m just gonna go ahead and add this here for anyone who hasn’t gotten into the awesomeness that is Captive Prince yet.
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (forthcoming, 2017) – A “roguish” bisexual gentleman goes on rollicking, literally magical adventures across 18th-century Europe with his sister and his best friend/crush, Percy.
Boy Robot by Simon Curtis (2016) – Action-packed gay sci-fi novel told from the perspective of a fugitive robot named Isaak.
The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg (2016) – A GORGEOUS wlw graphic novel based on The Arabian Nights and set in a “magical medieval world.” !!!
The Fixes by Owen Matthews (2016) – A senator’s son in the stupor of a boring internship gets drawn into his crush’s social circle and discovers he’s building bombs??? I’m kinda wary but also so very curious.
Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean (2016) – Murder mystery detective novel + m/m romance + set in London, yesss.
We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson (2016) – Sci-fi + m/m romance. A boy keeps getting abducted by aliens who give him 144 days to decide whether to save the world.
Anyone’s welcome to add to this list if you know of more~

Dana reviews Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean (Published by Blind Eye Books, October 4, 2016, 350 pages) A copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Why I read this: Well this book was chosen for me for Readers Choice week and since real life got in the way, I am just now reviewing it a few weeks later. I was excited that this book was picked for me, since I love a good mystery. For that…
