The 2020 Nba Champion Los Angeles Lakers coming off of an embarrassing loss against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals have had one of the best Free agency periods this whole summer and that they are set to make another Championship run. This summer the Lakers emphasized two things. Getting more Talent around their two superstar players Lebron James and Anthony Davis and making sure that they had a good amount of floor spacing around their star players. More talent came to the Lakers when they made the blockbuster deal trading Kyle Kuzma who has the talent but Ever since Lebron and AD came to LA he hasn’t found a consistent role with the team, Montrez Harrel who played minimal minutes for them in the playoffs, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who has been a very solid 3 and D player for the lakers and the 22nd overall pick in this years draft which The Wizards ended up using to get Corey Kispert the forward out of Gonzaga for former MVP Russell Westbrook. This move came to a surprise to many people because of the awkward fit of Westbrook and Lebron on the same court together but I believe that this was a good move by the Lakers because, when Lebron James is out of the Game the lakers still have consistent options to go to for scoring and facilitating. Last year when Lebron James and Anthony Davis got hurt the lakers collapsed in the standing dramatically even though they stayed as a top defense in the league. A huge reason for that is the Lakers not having consistent options around Lebron and AD. Now I understand that Westbrook isn’t the MVP caliber player that he used to be but last season with the Wizards he showed that he is still capable of running an offense and that's what the Lakers will need when Lebron James is on the bench. This is also great for Lebron because he is turning 37 this year after all and he could get some much needed rest during games this year while Westbrook and AD are running the show. We’ve talked about what Westbrook is capable of doing with Lebron off the court but we still haven’t answered the question of what he will do while Lebron James is on the court. It’s no secret that Lebron James and Westbrook both do the best with the ball in their hands so both of them being on the court has the opportunity to be a terrible fit just like how Harden and Westbrook were but, with the lakers I think Westbrook is going to get easy looks because of how much the defense has to focus on Lebron and AD. He also needs to be able to work better off the ball. Watching the Lakers last season with Dennis Schouder at the Point Guard position when Lebron was on the court he was setting up on the wing and in the corner and Westbrook has to be able to adjust to doing that more often this season. Lebron is an amazing passer and an example of what the lakers could be running next season is Lebron posting up with AD setting a back screen for Westbrook to cut to the basket and I believe that that would be a nightmare for defenses around the league to defend. And with the other priority for the Lakers being floor spacing they made great moves by signing Carmelo Anthony, Wayne Ellington, and Trevor Ariza. They are all veteran players who will come in and shoot the ball amazing for you and that's all you need from your role players when you have Lebron, AD, and Westbrook. With all of that being said the New Look Lakers will be a force this season and will remain the Favorites in the Western Conferenceand and the Russle Westbrook trade is going to be a huge reason why.
