What is SA8000 certification?
SA8000 is a voluntary certification standard that measures social accountability in the workplace. It was developed by Social Accountability International (SAI) and is based on international human rights standards. The SA8000 standard outlines a set of requirements that organizations must meet in order to be certified, including:
1. Child labor: The organization must not employ any workers under the age of 15 or the minimum age for employment set by local law, whichever is higher.
2. Forced labor: The organization must not use any forced or compulsory labor, including prison labor or debt bondage.
3. Health and safety: The organization must provide a safe and healthy working environment, including measures to prevent accidents and injury.
4. Freedom of association and collective bargaining: The organization must respect workers' right to join or form trade unions and to bargain collectively.
In order to achieve SA8000 certification in Dubai, an organization must undergo a rigorous auditing process, which includes an assessment of its policies and practices, as well as interviews with workers and management. Organizations that meet the SA8000 standard are awarded certification, which is valid for three years, subject to regular surveillance audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
