'Hands Off' Protest Update: Nationwide Anti-Trump March on April 5 Expands

The nationwide “Hands Off!” protest, scheduled for April 5, continues to gain momentum just one day ahead of the event. Initially organized in over 1,000 cities and towns across the U.S., the number of participating locations has now expanded—including international solidarity events listed on the official Hands Off and Mobilize platforms.

Led by advocacy groups like Third Act—founded by environmentalist and author Bill McKibben—alongside Reproductive Freedom for All and the 50501 Movement, the protests aim to spotlight growing concerns around voter suppression. Organizers say the demonstrations are timed to precede the expected congressional vote on the SAVE Act, which civil rights leaders argue could make voter registration more difficult for women and minority communities.

Adding to the urgency is the economic turbulence caused by President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on April 1, which triggered a major stock market drop.
