Sudharsan showed great fluency with the bat from the moment he stepped onto the pitch in the eighth over following Shubman Gill’s dismissal. He hit two impressive sixes off Maheesh Theekshana in the 15th over, one from a full toss and the other in the direction of cow corner. The left-hander reached his half-century in the subsequent over, having taken just 33 deliveries to do so. CSK’s powerplay bowling was uninspiring until Sudharsan arrived at the crease. The bowlers had a tendency to bowl down leg or pitch it too full. A sharp catch taken by Dhoni off Ravindra Jadeja helped slow GT down, sending Shubhman Gill (39) back to the pavilion.
