On January 29th 1852 smugglers caves and bothies on Arran, numbering about a dozen, were discovered the bothies were demolished by revenue men, the caves stripped of all goods.
In 1814 the act banning the use of stills of less than 500 gallons was introduced. This limited whisky production to commercial concerns and from then on farmers had no way of raising enough money to pay their rents, as distilling allowed them to use their excess grain for whisky which could be sold at a profit greater than that of the grain itself. This drove many honest people to smuggling as a way to survive. Many widespread difficulties were caused by farmers moving off the land, that agriculture in the Highlands was in danger of dying out. The law was changed in 1816 to allow stills of more than 40 gallons to be legal to encourage small distillers. However this still meant that stills under 40 gallons were determined to be portable and hence illegal which eradicated a lot of domestic distilling.
Smuggling gangs set up stills in secret places. The stills themselves were small so that if the excise man was spotted they could be removed and hidden. Smuggling chiefs were often men of high standing in the community. When one of their men was arrested the chief's name would be kept secret. This was partly due to the fact that the excise duties were seen as a tax by a foreign power, i.e. England, and so denying this revenue was their patriotic duty.
There are many tales of the deviousness of the whisky smuggler in outwitting the gaugers (an itinerant excise-man who measured containers and their content),[and the excise-men. In one such story the gaugers confiscate a large cask of spirit and transport it to a nearby inn where they are staying. They take the cask to their room on the second floor for safe keeping. The smugglers came to the inn and employ the serving girl to locate where the cask sits on the floor above and using an auger bore into the bottom of the cask, removing all the spirit so that there is none left for the gaugers to sample.
The only way to tackle the illegal distilling entirely was to decrease the duty so that it was no longer profitable and increase policing so that the military and gaugers were increased. Revenue cutters were employed up and down the coast and the numbers excise-men was increased as they were often out numbered by smuggling gangs. Further tariff reforms and generous rewards for informers were introduced and these measures became known as "the burning and starving act".
Illicit distilling has died out from lack of profitability, but rumours still persist in remote places of homemade moonshine like "Melvaig Mist"
Of course the troubles with the excise-man started long before the 19th century, Rabbie Burns, himself an excise-man for a time, wrote a poem, I will post later, the end few lines are........
Scotland, my auld, respected Mither!
Tho' whyles ye moistify your leather,
Till when ye speak, ye aiblins blether;
Yet deil-mak-matter!
Freedom and Whisky gang thegither,
Take aff your whitter.
They reckon that thousands ofĀ illicit whisky stills that would have been used byĀ local people in the Scottish Highlands still lieĀ undiscovered in remote glens, archaeologists have said. Many whisky distillers trade on names using the history of the stills, just google illicit whisky and a plethora of sources will spring up.

Posting about finding that braille labeler reminds me that I've long meant to talk about the underlying technology of the embossing labeler. I have something of a collection of them, and I just took a bit to take some pictures and label samples.
Fundamentally these all work the same way ā a disc has a number of "petals" around its edge, each with a raised character. A strip of vinyl tape, with a sticky backing covered by a protective plastic film, rides through a slot in the labeler and passes either through or alongside the wheel. You spin the disc to select a character, and squeeze the handle, forcing the raised die to press through the tape. The tape both takes the shape of the die and turns white as it gets thinner, leaving you a raised, contrasting character embossed in the tape. Letting go of the squeeze handle generally advances the tape to the space for the next character.
Until the advent of small printing label makers, these were practically the only game in town for labeling tools, household items, and the controls on homebrew electronics.

This is a recent example of the style that's been predominant since at least the 1980s. It's sized solely for ā
" tape (or 9mm) and is very straightforward to use: turn the wheel to select your character, and squeeze the grip. "Cut" is its own character, represented by scissors.

And this one is a shrunken version of the same; I'm uncertain of the manufacturer, but I think I got it amongst scrapbooking supplies back when that was big.

These two are together because they share one feature: the same kind of interchangeable die wheels; between the two models I have two identical "American 150" wheels and a third "Vertical" wheel. The Sears model (left) also takes the long- discontinued ¼" (6mm) tapes, and can print either in "wide" or "condensed" mode; it stores a roll of tape inside, where the Dymo model on the right lets the tape roll's caddy clip onto the back, and can only print in "wide". They both have separate cutting mechanisms: the Sears's is the extra white squeeze handle on the underside, while the Dymo uses the raised white button on top.

The Dymo 1570 also has changeable wheels, but I don't have any spares that fit it; both it and the Reizen RL-350 Braille Labeler take both ā
" (9mm) and ½" (12mm) tape. Unfortunately the only ½" tape I have is the clear type that came with the Reizen, so it's less legible to the sighted than it could be. The cutter on this Dymo works the same as on the Sears model, while the Reizen has a cutting space on the wheel.

A couple years ago I tried making 18th century metallic buttonholes with embroidery plate wrapped around strips of vellum, which worked and produced a result that looked just like some pictures of extant ones I've seen, but I never got around to using them on a garment. Recently I realized that in the 21st century we have metallic leather, and that using strips of that would be quicker and much less expensive, so I tried it and it worked very well!
I bought a couple of metallic leather samples off etsy and used a rotary cutter to make narrow strips. I cut and overcast the holes as usual, then just sewed down the little strips to the edges with a widely spaced buttonhole stitch using a regular fine metallic thread, and did bar tacks at the ends. It's a bit annoying doing little bar tacks with metallic thread, but much less annoying than wrapping vellum in plate!
One of my samples is in a blueish silvery colour, which isn't very historical but looks quite nice, and the other is a duller gold with a somewhat pebbled texture. I don't like it quite as much as the shinier one, but I think it could still work really well, depending on the fabric.
Hopefully I'll do some of these on an actual garment sometime soonish.

Opus N Bill in A Wish For Wings That Work 30th Anniversary Review! (Comission for WeirdKev27)
Ho ho ho all you happy people! And today we have something a bit special and a bit indulgent and a bit courtsey of my good friend kev. See originally this review was going to be cut, as while I was super excited to do it my Scott Pilgrim review put me massively behind schedule, to the point Iāll likely have to reschedule my venture bros season 1 review. I didnāt MIND it doing so as it finishes that retrospective after too long, but point is I put my clients work ahead of me, so I was willing to cancel this so I could get Kevās review of Operation: NAUGHTY done. Instead Kev switched to comissoning this so I could still do it as an early christmas present. What a guy, makes you cry , und I did. Donāt worry for anyone wanting to see the KND vs Elvish Versions of the X-Men, iāll make a spot for it next year. But for this year I couldnāt resisit celebrating the 30th anniversary of one of the most underrated christmas specials out there, the ONLY time one of my faviorite comic strip universes has hit the screen, a special even itās own creator isnāt happy about but I find a charming if flawed adaptation.Ā
As for what itās adapting...
So for those, including Kev himself, less familiar with americaās faviorite pengy and my desk assistant
We have to talk about one man with the mustache and wit of a greek god and a name that yes is very much 100% real: Berkley Brethead. Berkley is a Comic Striper. Iād say cartoonist but well...
Heās been working since the late 70ā²s when he did his first strip the Academia Waltz, a strip thatās... well Berke fought for YEARS to keep all but a select handful of strips released, letās leave it at that shall we? Itās best jokes, and characters in slimy fratboy misgonyst ass Steve Dallas and snarky star trek loving vietnam vet and ladies man Cutter John, would be recycled for Bloom County, his syndicated strip set in a rural townās bording house starring local kid Milo Bloom, who evolved from spacy dreamer to sardonic sometimes assholish voice of reason and muckracking reporter
As you can tell by the samples so far the strip is objectively hilaroius and easily both my faviorite comic strip ever (narrowly inching out Calvin and HObbes and Something Positive), and one of my faviorite comics period. It has wit, heart and a biting satirical bent for both politics and pop culture. While some jokes havenāt aged well others are flat out timeless as you can see.Ā
But early on it was missing something and Berke knew it: while the early strips arenāt AS bad as he thinks, it took years to convince him to make a complete edition of the strip for this reason, they do take a while to find their footing, slowly adding key castmembers as they go: in addition to steve and cutter being added (with steve now a completely scummy lawyer who regularly defends blatant murderers) to the new strip, we also got Binkley, a nervous kid who deals with a dad who at first is an agressive jock determined to change his son and later, and much more tolerably, a put upon guy dealing with his son waking him up every night with celebrity gossip. But the cast still lacked a center, a heart.. a heart that was found one day in the oddest way possible...
Soon though Binkley accepted his new best friend, and his dad accepted you canāt trade a child for a subraru, you twit.Ā
As you can see the man himself say, Berke could tell he had something and soon Opus went from a throwaway gag to the strips star, becoming the stripās heart. A chap whose a bit neruoti and naive, but utterly sweet relatable, and utterly himself.Ā Hereās some examples.Ā
Thereās more but I was paid to review a tv special not give you a best of a hefty penguin. Opus also picked up a best friend in Binkleyās cat Bill, who was created as a parody of the garfield merchandising boom, creating a character so unfathmobly ugly no one would want merch of him.... you can probably see where this went
Bill quickly became a fan faviorite because he was so ugly and Berke ran with it, giving this ugly cat who only commuincated inĀ āAckāsā andĀ āthbbtsā a rapidly expanding profile: he was a former movie star, crashed his car and died exactly like james dean, came back from life via cloning, ran for president four times (With Opus wrangled into being his reluctant VP every time), picked up a coke habit, joined the ranjeesh cult, went to betty ford, had a comeback after getting a massive inhereteance from a presumed dead Opus, dated Reganās diplomat Jean Kirkpatrick, used her to get secrets for the russians, was nearly executed for treasons, was traded to the russians in a prisoner exchange for cutter john, got kicked out of Russia after causing Chernobyl, became a headbanging superstar, shifted to socialy concious rock, got caught in a scandal doing something wholsome with a nun, became a televanglist whose anti-penguin crusade lead to opus becoming homeless, got his brain replaced with Donald Trumps, somehow got over that and returned, dated Bill clintonās cat sox, and finally lead a mayoral campaign to get teens to pull their pants up after having been the cause of Bird Flu. Oh and heās the long lost son of garfield, just in case you thought this coudlnāt get MORE silly.Ā
Jeez no wonder Arlene dumped him for a while and refused to be in the cartoon.Ā
So as you can imagine these two became the lynch pins of bloom county and the strip prospered till 1989. Berke was getting burnt out with the daily deadline grind, and had simply waited it out long enough to get full control of his characters. Keep in mind this was unheared of: much like with the big two of superhero comics if you make a comic strip for a major syndicate, they usually own the characters and concept fully. Itās likely why the big web comics boom of the 2000ā²s happened: younger cartoonists like Scott Kurtz, Holkins and Kraulki, Randy Miholland and many, many more found they could do whatever they wanted creatively and get paid decently for it by striking out on their own.Ā But once Berke owned them, he got out of doing daily strips. He TRIED doing something completely diffrent with his next strip Outland, which Starrred Ronald Anne, a young girl from theĀ āwrong side of the tracksā whoād been a recurring character in bloom countyās final years who ended up in a fantasy land with Tim W Forty, a purple weasel in a bowler and Mortimer Mouse
Ā No not that one but the characters were incredibly similar, with Morty here also being a cynical, slightly horny mouse. But after about a month eventually Berke gave in.. and brought back an old friend...
Yup while he fully intended to move on... he just couldnāt and outland soon became bloom county just with a new cast, with Tim soon gone, mortimer gone not long after him and a few ringers from bloom county returning to fill out the cast again: Oliver Wendell Jones, a prominent cast member who loves to pal around computers and use them to make goverment and fincial institutions go all higgeldy pigeledy and Milquetoast, a sarcastic asshole of a cockroach who frequently heckled opus and whispered things into peopleās ears to make them do stuff. Eventually berke gave up entirely and edged Ronald-Anne out in favor of bringing binkley and steve back before quitting all together coming back for two runs: Opus which due to the newspaper industry geting worse and more censor happy didnāt last long and a revivial of Bloom county that continues on and off to this very day, most recently having a neat arc where Opus tries to find a now adult calvin to reunite him with Hobbes.Ā
So why go into all of this? Well partly so you see how much I love these strips going in.. and partly because this weird and wonderful history effects the special. See the special was made in 91... putting us square into outland territory and where I feel part of the specialās shakiness comes from: The only fleshed out characters he could legally used (Disney unsuprisingly wasnāt happy about having Mickeyās brother who had a beef with Micheal Eisner who eisner tried to have personally killed as a main character) were Opus, Bill, Ronald-Anne and Milquetoast, weirdly not using any of the bloom county cast. Maybe he was tired of them, I dunno, heād later backtrack on that but at the time he just stuck with who he had and it effects the special as you see. Itād also effect his enjoyment as while production went smooth, Berke ended up unsatisified with it for a number of reasons, from feeling his work really didnāt transfer to screen, to having wanted VA legend and voice of Winnie the Pooh Sterling Holloway to voice opus. That last part I donāt agree with as A), Holloway was retired and Jim Cummings had been in the roll for some time wasnāt contacted.. despite having directly worked with the guy who did play opus which brings me to 2) Michael Bell, who plays Opus here, does a WONDERFUL job. Youād know him as Chazz Finster, Drew Pickles and Quackerjack.Ā
That said was Berke right as a whole? Was he rilla? Is it all just killer diller? Find out under the cut for my full review!
We open amazingly, with aĀ beautiful pan in shot to some gorgeous music as Opus writes his letter to santa. He explains what he wants, what his wish is: for wings that work. As he knows.. he dosenāt exactly have the most functional ones.
And itās here where Bell really shines as opus, combining his innocence with a bit of refrential humor, nailing the character. Itās why I feel Berke was hard on him: this is a hard character to get the tone down for, one whose innocent, but can also make asides about the state of the world, one whose kind but also prone to have outbursts. The last part Bell has issues with, but the rest of it he gets beautifully, his Chaz voice perfectly fitting our flightless friend. If thereās one true standout of the special, itās Bell and I hope if weāre ever lucky enough to get a full length opus movie at some point, we can get someone like Bell or see if heāll take up the sword again. Heās still kicking and voiced Quackerjack last year for ducktales, so itās not like heās gone.. despite what the Disney+ reboot not using him might have you belivie.Ā
Opus recounts the previous day and thus we segue into the plot proper as Opus begins his daily routine, flapping around while trying toĀ āfly fly flyā as he says, wanting to soar. He passes Bill, who lives in a garbage can.Ā Good thing he got out of it the next guy to go near it wasnāt exactly friendly.Ā
youtube
So while we get this fun opening of Opus darting around like a goober in the snow while Bill follows him, to his displeasure as by this point in things Opus was more annoyed with his friends existance than anything versus his steadfast loyalty early on. Then again given Bill you know, called his existance immoral and got him ran out of town by religious jackholes aka the entire cast minus Binkley.
So I canāt really blame Opus for not wanting to be buddy buddy with the guy.Ā
Jokes aside this is easily the weakest bit of the special. Opus seems to shun Bill for no given reason. All bill does is follow him around, opus hates him for existing and I just scratch my head. Thatās it. In the comics again thereās a LONG history of bill being a bit nuts and leaving Opus in the learch. Besides the above he blew Opusā dough, took all the ad money from their rock band, caused said bandās breakup, and once got Opus engangled as a communist sympathizer despite Opus having had nothing to do with Billās dealings with Russia.Ā Here heās just snappy at a braindead cat he found who just wants a buddy. It makes opus come off like a bit of a dick when he should be utterly sympathetic.Ā
Thankfully those moments are few and far between and after failing to soar again, Opus heads to his support group, being mocked and stalked by some ducks who are original creations to this special, played by Joe Alasky, also of rugrats shockingly enough, using his daffy voice. They arenāt bad though, mocking our hero for his efforts and being perfectly build up bullies and good stand ins for the other animals who tended to mock opus Pontory, Hodgepodge and Milquetoast.Ā
Whose not a good stand in is Truffles who is claming to be a rhino yet shames Opus for his own desires to break his species. Iāts not funny, he has no purpose here, I donāt get why MIlquetoast didnāt play the part since the guyās reduced to a cameo. Moving on.Ā
So we get the meeting which is easily the standout part of the special, and adapted almost beat for beat from one of the Outland strips:
The characters , dialouge and final bit are all taken from the strip. The only changes are Georges last two bits of dialouge are changed and instead of Opus proctering the meeting, he participates in it while Ronald Anne does. She does a good job as tiny therapist and itās a decent change. Also yes that last bit has not aged well at all and I question using Milquetoast ONLY for that roll. IN the comic he was a foil to opus, here.. heās a joke aged like moldy cheese. Why. Also because he happened to be around during one of the days of recording heās voiced by academy award winner Dustin Hoffman

But again the sceneās a standout, with Alyson, voiced by Tress Macneile, being fun and enjoyable. The real star is George. In the comic heās just pretty sad,.. but in the special heās a special heās a wonderfully morose ham, who shouts about the ALBATROSSS gloriously. And he too was played by a big name, the late great Robin Williams, who was working with Amblin for Hook and thus gladly agreed. And he brought his best to it, just making every bit if dialouge from George pop, making the tragedy of his life into pure comedy, even wanting Alyson to suck up an albatross> This scene sparkles with Bretheads offbeat style and feels the closest to his work out of the special. Iāts not a bad special overall but the smaller scale of the scene means he can focus the way he does in a strip and it works beauitfully.Ā
Opus decides to say no no no, to status quooooo and goes to bobās military hardware and balloons, great background sign gag, to become anĀ āaeronautical vigilanteā trying to fly with BALLONS. Hit it!
youtube
Sadly Motherfucking ballons donāt help him soar and he ends up plowing over the recurring chorus of a bunch of random weirdly drawn people and Elvis. No not a guy who looks like elvis, wether that was the intent or not. Elvis is canocially alive in Bloom County
I got nothing more to add I just love this very weird fucking strip.Ā
So Opus snaps at bill and goes home, ending up dreaming of a black and white christmas.. specifically the 1937 film about a plane crash, Lost Horizon. Itās about a group of people trying to escape china who end up in Shangri-La. A And you thought the elvis thing was silly.Ā
Opus plays the pilot and fails to get them to land as...
And wakes up to his door being pounded on. For once no phrasing. Itās a christmas miracle. The ducks barge in and drag Opus to a crash site.. for Santa. Santa ended up in the icy water, he needs help... and Opus just happens to be equipped. Itās a nice, heartwarming twist: Opus wished so long to fly.. that he forgot what he could do. The narrative dosenāt QUITE wrap around to it the way it should, they never thought to play up his ablility to swim in frosty waters or his natural talents for some reason.... but itās so charming, and the site of Opus hauling that sled to shore so awesome, that it just.. works.Ā
So we get a truly touching moment as Santa not only thanks opus, but gives him his hat, replacing Opus lost flying hat heās had for half the special. Itās truly endearing.
And in the end, Opus gets what he wanted most.. simply by having been himself. The ducks change their ways and apologize for being dicks.. and thus offer Opus a flight.Ā
So we get our just as heartwarming ending: Opus soaring in the air.. and finding out Bill was the one who recommended him to save santa, offering bill to follow along asĀ āthis is for you too billy boy!ā. So he flies, getting his wish.. but having already gotten the self respect he thought heād get with it and giving us a merry christmasĀ ābut I simply must fly.ā Truly great ending.Ā
Final Thoughts;Ā
This special is pretty good. It has itās flaws: the emotoinal payoffs needed more work to get there. In contrast the more emotoinal moments in both charlie brown and garfields specials felt earned, having a longer road there. Here Opus is needed because the plot does and Bill is thanked because he did something nice with not enough of an apology. The fact the supporting cast is kinda paired down dosenāt help, giving Opus journey less weight as the characters have less chemistry with him than his old friends did.Ā
So why do I still love this thing? Well for once iāts to date the ONLY adaptation of something I Love. And keep in mind being the only one does not mean iāll love it. The tim story ff films are a mess and I still to this day refuse to watch Fan4stic.Ā Same with Dragon Ball Evolution which is the only adaptation of dragon ball thatās not a direct 1:1 from the manga or anime.. but is also Dragon Ball Evolution. MIght review those some days but the point is I donāt treasure them or WANT them.Ā
In contrast this film.. I watch every christmas right alongside garfiled and good old charlie brown. While itās flawed... having flaws is part of the franchise as a whole. The strips have dated humor thatās pretty bad or offesnvie here and there. No oneās perfect. And thatās the message of this film: no oneās perfect, but what makes you you matters. And itās why I can forgive this films faults: itās not perfect.. but it still feels like opus, still has the utterly touching moments most good christmas specials need, and is still magic to watch every time. every time I notice new thigns and new neat quirks. So while itās not perfect.. itās special.Ā
If you want ot partake yourself, check it out on youtube thereās multiple copies and I hope this gets a blu ray release at some point (though I own the dvd one at least). For now iām going to take off eh, thanks for reading.Ā

Book 13 of 2020: The Flame Alphabet
The Flame Alphabet by Ben Marcus
I'm exceedingly behind on these reviews, as usual, so please bear with me.
"To refrain from storytelling is perhaps one of the highest forms of respect we can pay. Those people, with no stories to circle them, can die without being misunderstood."
I absolutely fell in love with this book. It's complicated, twisting, and felt weirdly relevant to our current situation. An epidemic has spread across America that makes children's speech lethal to everyone with long-term exposure to it. The protagonist, Sam, and his wife are tortured by their teenage daughter Esther. They don't want to leave her behind as some parents have, but Sam's wife, Claire, is beginning to give out. The story is told in a spiralling manner, in which it circles back to topics previously discussed and events in the past as it continues forward. Additionally, Sam and Claire rely on underground radio transmissions from a rabbi in an unknown location, and Sam begins to hear rumors about a man who is working on a cure for this epidemic. Seemingly overnight, speech is removed from society. Even adults do not speak; though children's speech is the most lethal, any speech exposure is enough to cause symptoms and eventual death. When Sam and Claire eventually escape their daughter, Sam finds himself thrust into an evolving world of cure and vaccine research, examining the nature of speech and communication, and continuing to survive in a world with no verbal or written instructions. There is also an interesting subplot revolving around Sam's Judaism and the way his knowledge of religion and Hebrew factors into his interpretation of the events placed before him. I'm not Jewish, and I tend to dislike religious or spiritual plots/subplots, but I really enjoyed this addition. Everything was laid out in such a way that a goyim like me still figured it all out with no outside research, and I think it added a lot of depth to Sam's character and contextualized some of his decisions and thought processes. I also liked the way Hebrew text made an appearance in the story and impacted Sam's research on communications and cures in the language-stripped world.
Sam is flawed and somewhat gray as a character, but still makes a compelling character who the reader wants to root for no matter what. He has clear motivations, and is a detailed and intricate character. Because there is little to no dialogue throughout the book, Marcus relied heavily on action and description, but I never felt bogged down with exposition. This was certainly an interesting read, particularly because the world Marcus created seems to become a dystopia overnight. I really enjoyed the prose he used to convey this all, and the eventual turn the story takes. The ending, in particular, I enjoyed because it felt conclusive but not cookie-cutter.
As a side note, I noticed some really mixed reviews for this book on GoodReads. People seem to really like Marcus' prose or think the way he builds his world is way too much. I personally enjoyed the somewhat cerebral feel, but others found it heavy-handed. From what others have said, I think you would probably be able to tell from the first few pages if you would enjoy the style - so maybe read a sample before you buy/borrow the whole book.
Trigger warnings for disease, death/character death, complicated family dynamics,Ā self-medication, sex, discussions ofĀ religion,Ā and generally heavy topics. It's difficult to give too many specifics without spoiling the book but if you're ever curious feel free to message me for a more detailed list.
My final opinion: My current chart-topper for 2020 favorite!

Fandom: Thunderbirds Are Go 2015/ Thunderbirds TOS
Rating: Teen
Summary: āDid you discover this, Brains?ā He frowned. There was something familiar about this. Maybe they had discussed it recently.
āOh, no, this is V. T. Green. The man is brilliant.ā
Word count: 3282
Spoilers & warnings: None.
Timeline: Standalone
Authorās note: Ooh, two parts in two days. Iām on a roll :D I hope you enjoy it :D
This is one that I have been meaning to write for some time. I hope you enjoy it :D Many thanks to @scribbles97, @vegetacide Ā and @thunderstorm-bay for all their wonderful help with this.
Disclaimer: Mine? Youāve got to be kidding. Money? Donāt have any, donāt bother.
-o-o-o-
Scott was staring at him as if lost for words. The medbay suddenly felt very small.
Johnās voice interrupted. āVirgil?ā
Virgil cleared his throat and shifted where he sat. āYes, John.ā His arm twinged and he grit his teeth. Damn it.
āI have something you will be interested in.ā
āTell me youāve found who did it.ā
āI think you know who did it.ā
What?
āWell, I donāt know. Tell me.ā Virgilās revelation had obviously sunk into his brother. His eyes were glittering with anger.
āAbout a month after we saved the dam, Windemere ordered a check on the nanocrete. A crew was sent out, but the results were inconclusive. Records show that there was no concern regarding integrity, but a sample of the nanocrete was taken.ā
āThey messed with our stuff?ā Scott was building up a fine head of steam.
āHardly our stuff, Scott. Besides, Brains has molecularly masked the nanocrete anyway. They had no way to reverse engineer the formula.ā
āSo why take a sample? It would have been a bitch to hack off.ā
āDiamond cutter coupled with a microlaser.ā
āMicrolaser.ā Virgil jumped on the word like a life buoy in the middle of the ocean. āWindemere did this?ā
āAccording to the dam records.ā
āDid they go out again?ā
āYes, a month later. Reason was recorded as another integrity check.ā
āThatās when they did it.ā Virgil bit his lip.
āI concur.ā There was something in Johnās voice. āI have several images from Global Two on that day.ā Images were shunted down to the medbayās holoprojector.
There were only four and the camera had been focussed on the town, not the dam, but when John looped them into sequence, the crew, dark against the stark white concrete wall moved in a familiar pattern, touching first the central position of the nanocrete followed by the weak points Alan and Gordon had shored up earlier in the day.
āWindemere.ā
āYes.ā
āBut why?ā
āAn opportunity, perhaps?ā
āBy sacrificing his own dam? His own career?ā
āA gamble that is still to pay off?ā Johnās voice wasnāt quite as calm as usual.
Virgil straightened where he sat. āIt is not going to pay off.ā He threw himself to his feet. āWe need Aunt Val and I need to see Windemere.ā
He turned to leave and ran slap bang into his brother. The shock shook his frame and his arm.
āWhat the hell, Scott?ā
āWhere do you think you are going? I told you to get some rest.ā
āIām fine.ā
āYouāre not even supposed to be here. Youāre supposed to be home in bed.ā
āIām fine! This needs to be done and it needs to be done now.ā He glared up at his brother. Of all the frustrating...
āGoddamnit, Virgil, you have to push it, donāt you.ā Scottās voice had dropped rather than risen which meant he was beyond pissed and well into apoplectic. āI will speak to this guy. You sit your ass down now.ā
āScott-ā
āNo! And donāt you think Iām ever taking you out on a rescue injured ever again.ā
Virgil straightened, his glare a physical heat between them. āDo you think I enjoy doing this? Do you think I am into self-flagellation? I do this because it has to be done. I do this because I am the only one who can do it.ā
āBullshit, Virg! I can fly Brains out here in no time.ā
And there it was, the core of the matter. āBrains is a mechanical engineer, Scott. Heās a goddamned genius, but when in the hell is this family going to realise I have my own specialities. I may not have a pile of blasted paper to prove it, but youāve always trusted me. Always. Why not now?!ā
It took Scott down a peg, his shoulders shifting as he let out a frustrated sigh. āYouāre injured.ā
āI have a weakened arm. There is nothing wrong with my brain, Scott, and that is what is needed here. No heavy lifting, no mechanical aid, no Thunderbird Two, just me and what is between my ears. For godās sake, trust me.ā
āI do.ā
āThen let me do this.ā
āVirgil...ā
āOh, for the love of... no wonder most of you havenāt worked it out.ā Frustrated, Virgil used his left shoulder to push past his brother. āThunderbird Five, could you please put me through to Aunt Val?ā
āFAB.ā Whether John had overheard their discussion or not - he probably had - he did not react to it at all.
Virgil strode out the medbay, heading for the hatch so his girl could let him down onto the worn asphalt his ābird was parked on. Scott followed without a word. Whether or not what had been said made a difference, Virgil did not know. Chances are Scott would pick up the conversation later and rip strips off him, but too bad. This had to be done now.
-o-o-o-
Scott was furious.
He followed his brother out of his ābird and into the evening light. Far down below the dam, water gushed into the stream, desperate to empty the reservoir.
Whatever John said to their Aunt, it had her appearing in a GDF flyer almost immediately, the vehicle hovering to allow both brothers to board.
āScott, I have to say I am happy to have you boys here on this one. Thank you so much for all your assistance with the evacuation and shoring up the town.ā
Keeping a polite face, Scott buried his anger at his brother to maintain civility. He would save it for later. āIt is what we do, Colonel.ā
āWell, I am very happy that you do it. Now, John said your request was urgent.ā The flyer lifted slowly.
Scott looked at his brother. Okay, Virgil, this is your play.
A flash of brown in his direction. āColonel, we need to speak to Windemere. I have some suspicions I need confirmed.ā
āWindemere is in the brig. He did nothing but hamper attempts to prevent this disaster. I have questions of my own.ā
Virgil straightened his shoulders. āI need to see him. It is important.ā
Casey flicked a glance at Scott, who tilted his head just a little. Virgilās shoulders tensed beside him.
Okay, maybe Virgil had a point.
āVirgil needs to speak to the dam supervisor. He has some technical questions.ā
Casey lowered her eyes to the younger brother, her lips pursed just a little. āVery well.ā
-o-o-o-
There was an empty cabin and a couple of chairs. To be honest, Virgil was quite happy to sit down. Scott was right. He shouldnāt be here, but it was no good wishing for what he couldnāt have. Work with what youāve got. It was a Jeff Tracy motto, one Virgil Tracy kept close to his heart.
Of course, the pissed off mother hen beside him, didnāt fail to notice his sag into the chair. Even Aunt Val was eyeing him with concern.
Fine! He had a bent wing, but for godās sake, he was okay.
Scott furrowed his brow.
Virgil turned away and ignored him.
Windemere was led into the room. Both the GDF and Thunderbird Five were recording this interview. Virgil desperately needed an independent eye that wasnāt IR to see what this man had done.
āMr Windemere, these two agents of International Rescue have requested to speak to you. Please answer their questions fully and to the best of your knowledge.ā
The man snorted. āI know my rights. I donāt have to say anything.ā
āThat is your choice, but you will find that the charges being laid against you will go kindlier if you help.ā
āIs that a threat?ā
Casey straightened, an eyebrow arching. āNo, Mr Windemere, a simple fact.ā The Colonel turned and took another seat towards the back of the room witnessing the interview as Virgil had requested.
Windemere turned to Virgil. āSo, have you finished destroying my dam.ā
āAs I have repeatedly said, Mr Windemere, the damās disintegration was not caused by our repairs.ā
āProve it.ā It was almost a snarl.
Virgil arched an eyebrow. āWe have. It must have taken you some time to laser bore all those holes into the dam wall.ā
āWhat holes?ā
Virgil poked at his holoprojector and his scan results appeared for all to see.
He didnāt miss the quietly indrawn breath of his Aunt behind him.
Windemere was suddenly very still. His expression wasnāt perfect, the man was too stupid for that.
But not stupid enough.
āAnd I suppose you put that together with your little proprietary gadget that no one else knows anything about?ā
āThese scan results were achieved using a standard IR structural scanner, a device we use to locate structural defects, load points and hidden support mechanisms. I used the same scanner last week to calculate the weakest point in a brick wall in order to save a toddler from a fire. Yes, they are proprietary and no, you canāt see their schematics. The scan, however, is correct and true to fact.ā
The snarl returned. āWhy should I believe you.ā
āWhy shouldnāt you?ā
āBecause you destroyed my dam.ā
āWe did not destroy your dam.ā
āProve it.ā
āI just did.ā
āWell, isnāt that just perfect for you. All that data that no one else can prove right or wrong, we just have to believe you are not lying.ā His lip actually curled like a dogās. āBut you are.ā
Virgil let it wash over him. Beside him, Scott was stiff as a board.
āWhat possible reason would International Rescue have to want to destroy the Grand Sequoia Dam?ā
āTo hide your own screw up.ā
āWhat screw up?ā
āThe damage that your fancy concrete did to the dam.ā
āThere was no damage.ā
āProve it.ā
Scottās knuckles creaked as his fist tightened.
Virgil didnāt dare look in his direction.
āMr Windemere, what are your qualifications?ā
The man blinked, the question coming out of left field, but he straightened somewhat, obviously proud of his own achievements. āI am a graduate of the highest ranked engineering college in the world, Denver, of course.ā
Virgil knew this; John had briefed them both on Windemereās background prior to this little interview, but the engineer was still caught between laughing and cursing the fact this idiot was a product of the same educational institution he was.
Goes to show that education is certainly not everything.
āWere you there when Abby Applegate blew up the Chem Lab building?ā
The man actually snorted. āI dated Abby Applegate.ā
Well, that explained a lot. Abby Applegate was legendary at Denver. She was a genius, but not too bright on so many other fronts. Her theories were breakthrough, her execution catastrophic. The woman had been at Denver forever and yet she still hadnāt graduated. Virgil suspected the College kept her on campus as a public service while farming her for her brilliance.
Windemere frowned. āYou went to Denver?!ā His eyes widened. āYouāre Virgil Tracy!ā
āYes.ā The man was an idiot. Their attendance only overlapped by one year, but then Windemere had been there long before Virgil ever set foot on campus.
āSon of Jeff Tracy.ā And there was the inevitable.
āYes.ā
āYou work for International Rescue?ā
Virgilās arm was aching and his patience growing short. āAbby Applegate is brilliant. She was a core contributor to todayās hover technology. Did you know that?ā
Windemere stared at him. āSure. What has that got to do with anything?ā
āDo you remember the Pacific seaquakes several years ago? The Tsunami Disaster? Abby Applegate was responsible for designing the technology that enabled the Hood to create those seaquakes. She didnāt know, or, I suspect, care, who got their hands on the technology. She released the designs as a theoretical. The Hood got his hands on them and the world suffered for it.ā He pinned the man with his eyes. āThis is why International Rescue technology is proprietary. This is why we donāt release our designs or formulas. Everything we do is for the good of everyone. But not everyone cares like we do.ā
āHave you finished preaching?ā
It was Virgilās turn to tighten a fist under the table. āWhat did he offer you?ā
āWho?ā
āThe Hood.ā
The sudden silence was telling, but far from proof.
āHe wanted the formula for the nanocrete, didnāt he? Offered you money in exchange for your career and integrity?ā
Windemereās lips thinned. āI have no idea what you are talking about.ā
God, the man was a pathetic liar. Beside him, Scott shifted in his seat. Virgil reached out and placed his hand on his brotherās knee. Blue flickered in his direction.
āMr Windemere, we have molecular proof of artificially instigated concrete cancer, we have the delivery method, we have your service records, we know you did this. You do not have the technology the Hood requested and we are not going to give it to you. Your better option is to own up to your crimes and hope the courts are kinder to you for it.ā
To Virgilās surprise, the man smiled. āBut to prove it, you will have to reveal your technology to those courts.ā
Virgil eyed the man. What was his motivation? He stood to lose everything in this scheme. What could possibly be driving him to career suicide?
The manās smile widened.
Oh, youāve got to be kidding me. It couldnāt be as simple as that, could it? Really?
āYou know, Scott, I donāt think he knows anything. I donāt think he is bright enough to pull this off.ā He flicked a glance in his brotherās direction, hoping heād pick up on his train of thought.
As always, his big brother read his mind, eyes drilling into his for just that split second. āI told you that. He has to be a puppet of a smarter mind. We are wasting our time.ā Scott stood up.
āI am no puppet!ā
Wow, that was quick.
Acidic blue cut the man down. āThere is no way you are smart enough to pull this off, Windemere.ā
Virgil stood up. āHe dated Abby Applegate. Perhaps she inadvertently released another of her āideasā. Colonel Casey, the GDF will have to do something about her.ā
Aunt Val rose, eyes darting between Virgil and his brother.
āIt wasnāt Abby!ā Windemere threw himself to his feet.
Virgil ignored him, taking a step towards the door. āDid I tell you about the time Abby set fire to her dorm by exploding a donut?ā
Scott followed his lead. āA donut?ā
āPumped it full of homemade C-4 equivalent. Blew out sixteen windows and burned down half the building.ā
āYouāre kidding.ā
āNo, it was spectacular.ā
āIt wasnāt Abby!ā
āNo one was hurt, fortunately. Though she did revolutionise the explosives market. Come to think of it, I used a derivative just last week during that mine collapse. It is an excellent product to work with.ā He latched onto his brotherās eyes. āThis corrosion would be right up her alley. I donāt know why I didnāt think of her earlier. Itās not like she hasnāt supplied the Hood before. He does only work with the best, Iāll give him that much.ā A dismissive hand thrown in Windemereās direction. āThere is no way Windemere would make the grade.ā
āHey!ā
Virgil hit his comms, knowing John was already listening in. āThunderbird Five, could you give me a current location on Abby Applegate. She should be still housed at Denver College grounds.ā
āFAB, Thunderbird Two.ā
āAbby didnāt do it! I did!ā
The room fell silent except for the harsh breathing of the man at its centre. His face was red, skin gleaming in the overhead light. āIām just as smart as Abby, Just as smart. Smart. Iām smart.ā And something in the manās angry mind clicked and he realised exactly what he had done. He went still as stone for a moment, staring wide-eyed at Virgil.
An inarticulate scream and he threw himself across the table, hands clawing.
One hooked Virgilās sling before he could react and, for a split second, all he saw was Windemereās wild face and a flash of pain striking across his vision in all its colour variegated glory.
A blur of blue IR uniform and Virgil found himself falling back into his seat with a jarring thud as Scott intervened between him and the raging engineer. GDF guards piled in, and the man was dragged off the IR operatives, still screaming incoherently.
āLock him up.ā Aunt Valās voice could not have been more disgusted. Windemere was bundled out of the room. His screams echoed down the hall.
āVirg, you okay?ā
Virgil blinked and found Scott crouching down at his side, worry in his eyes. āUh, yeah. Sorry about that. Didnāt expect him to completely explode.ā He straightened up and winced. āShould have reacted quicker.ā
His brother looked up at their Aunt. āDo we have enough?ā
A sharp nod. āWe have enough. Thank you, Scott. Thank you, Virgil.ā She frowned down at him. āI think it is time you went home, young man.ā
Virgil resisted the urge to roll his eyes as Scott immediately straightened up. āI agree.ā He held out his hand. āCāmon, Virgil, Grandma is waiting.ā
This time he did roll his eyes. āIām fine.ā But as he took Scottās hand and his brother helped him to his feet, he realised that, yes, he was beyond tired, he was sick of being in pain, and yes, all he wanted to do was go home.
For just a moment, Scott drew him close. āYou did good, Virg.ā A squeeze to his uninjured shoulder. āYou did good.ā
-o-o-o-
The ride home was a blur.
Scott hauled him onto TB2, dragged him to the medbay, and produced the dreaded painkillers, glaring at Virgil until he swallowed the necessary dose down.
There was a brief ādiscussionā on whether Virgil should lie down on the gurney, but ultimately he ended up in the cockpit.
He must have fallen asleep because next he knew Scott and Gordon were gently pulling him from his seat and lying him down. A flush of cooler air had him breathing in deep, but another sigh and he drifted again.
Murmured words, the familiar scent of his own cotton sheets, and he let himself go.
Job complete.
Now he could sleep.
-o-o-o-
The afternoon sun was crawling across his bed when Virgil woke the next day.
Its brightness had him blinking and shifting stiffly in his bed. A yawn, creaking fabric and he discovered he was still in his uniform, his baldric draped over a chair and his boots out of sight. It had obviously been impossible to remove the blue coverall simply because of his sling.
A whiff and he realised his odour wasnāt the most pleasant. A shower sounded divine.
Movement, however, was a whole different matter.
He sighed.
His ceiling invited thought as he traced the meditative swirls, his mind skipping over the events of the day before. Windemereās stupidity, Abbyās brilliance. The nature of genius.
Gordonās proud grin as he realised Virgil was V. T. Green.
He smiled, a fondness for his younger brother swelling in his gut.
But those thoughts returned his mind to the situation with his website, Brains and what the hell he was going to do about it all.
Yesterday had shouted all kinds of issues at him. So many examples of genius and stupidity and the abuse of knowledge and power. He pursed his lips.
Reaching for his tablet, he brought up his blog, only to find his inbox once again bursting at the seams with notifications.
Quiet words under his breath.
A decision and he flicked through his dashboard until he found what he was looking for.
He swallowed and, with a touch of a finger, shut the website down.
Permanently.

Occasionally additional things have remarkable necessities and will be set up for a creation since they own a specific outfit, for example, a tuxedo, floor length outfit, Halloween gathering, sports uniform, and so on. Additional work relies upon the closet an extra has in his/her additional room. Additional things deftly their own storeroom since it's less issue for the creation. It's enthusiastic, clear, all dress fit's the manager experienced and there's little expense to the creation.
Film pre-creation for extra room can begin around a month and a half before shooting. The position what's more makers are demonstrated drawn gifted specialist begins, formed and swatched with unassuming extents of outfit for each character. These samplings offer a thought of what the proposed outfits/extra room will be worn by the on-screen characters. Headings are given about the cut and catch of the outfits, changes to existing stock, and so forth. Outfits made or made using scratch by and large unite a get facilitator. The originator reviews the time or timespan, looks at for the materials, structures the evaluations/assessments and collects the pieces for the social occasions. Outfits made by fashioners are on a phenomenally basic level Historical or period pieces, dream pieces correspondingly as present day/advanced.
The Academy Awards rewards creators. Best Costume Design is the arrangements for outfit facilitators and it has ran from 1948 to introduce. For this class packs are made or made by the organizer for all the characters/entertainers in the film. The facilitator's get-together can blend tailors, needle workers, appliquers, dyers, cutters, breakers-down (they make the things look worn), boot creators, top producers, embellishments producers, and so on. The champ of the 82nd Academy Awards for Costume Design was Sandy Powell for The Young Victoria.
Signs give the party originator/closet division a cash related strategy. For customary articles of clothing purchased from stores, yet not picked by the administrator for the entertainers, will be come back to the different stores for markdown. Extra room stockrooms boast lines and zones roof high of social affairs fit to be leased for express period pieces. Outfit stock are pulled from their racks and ignores sorted out to dress the entertainers. These improvement trademark regular factors moreover have boxes and boxes and boxes of overhaul too. From all the various sorts and sizes of footwear, tops, gloves, embellishments to cover, head-contraption, dress or other astounding quality things, for example, formed force fatigues, star pieces of clothing or zombie duds, and so on.
On the strategy of a film there is on and on an extra room trailer as a piece of the celebration. In any case, the on-screen character's or entertainer's extra room is hung up in their trailer before they show up for the days shooting. All pieces are given to the entertainer near underclothing, particularly if the air is cold. Entertainers place hot packs in their footwear, pockets or possibly around their body and are surrendered a spread coat. The coat serves to cover the extra room, keep the on-screen character warm and shield the outfit from the parts.
On set, there are extra room interfaces that manage the on-screen characters. They ensure all storeroom is put on adequately, there are no change issues or pieces missing and they ensure everything is in it's optimal spot and worn the correct way. Each outfit the entertainer wears will be gotten for congruity purposes. Right when an entertainer has changed into his storeroom he will go to the extra room trailer for understanding before scrambling toward set.
To summarize things, extra space is a central bit of the mammoth film puzzle. Outfits make the entertainer's character come a live. They help the on-screen character change into his/her action. For the additional things, they might be out of sight, they feel related with the TV or film. Additionally, the gathering, we recoup the opportunity to kick and take it all in.

ć I, My, Me, Mine ć
ā” pairing | Toga x ᶠᓱᓹ Reader ā word count | 3.9k ā genre | angst ā warnings | knives, blood, character death, identity theft ā® A/N | the Toga origin story literally no one asked me to write
The harsh white light that glows overhead, filling the quiet room with equally muted tones has settled painfully in Togaās head. With every second ticking past she can feel a pounding against her eyes like a prisoner beating against their cell walls. But perhaps that isnāt all attributed to the headache thatās steadily scraping against her skull. Thereās always been another person inside her; smaller, weaker, easy to ignore. The pain of their nails scraping incessantly inside her head has long since become a sort of white noise, only recently has it spiked to a volume that impossible to ignore. To her credit, Toga had tried to pretend she didnāt hear the little niggling voice in her head spike in volume all those months ago, but it was a fruitless endeavor. Every time she gets her mind to quiet, to become sweet and docileāthe girl everyone thinks she is; the girl she should beāshe does something that has her mind screaming out at an earsplitting decibel.
It had started as a soft hum that now buzzed through her head like a fitful swarm of wasps, stinging and stinging until her mind is swollen, overflown, with thoughts of her, her, her. At times, Toga just wants to slap her hands over her ears and scream at the top of her lungs, willing everything else to silence. But thatās not what sweet and docile girls do, especially not in the middle of a classroom. But this accursed room is always when that little voice gets bigger, going from a lisping child to a lumbering beast with just one glance at her. Knowing the cause should make it easy to ignore, easy to contain her mind thatās threatening to detach from her will completely. And it would be that easy if she werenāt so magnetic. Itās a Herculean task for Toga to know sheās there, in the same room with her, to know she could look up and see her. Then not do it. Itās a sort of masochistic game she plays with herself, resting to see just how thin she can stretch her mind before it breaks. Sheās getting close to the answer if the pain still galloping through her head like a herd of wild stallions is any indication.
Toga looks for a distraction that doesnāt involve the paper sitting in front of her. Sheās in no mood to deal with mathematics and the margins of her worksheet is already filled with the aimless scribbles of her restless hand. To stop from tapping her pen and drawing attention to herself, Toga takes to poking at her pencil case. The gel like material gives with each prod, mutilating the pastel character decals printed on it and warping the overhead lights to a less offending brightness. After a particularly hard jab the unzipped opening gives way like a belly split up the middle, but instead of entrails the rest of her school supplies spill onto her desk. Amongst the pens, pencils, and erasers is an innocent looking box cutter. The sweet Hello Kitty design is as unoffending as it can get, but Toga is more interested in the blade still sheathed in the pink plastic.
With a steady glide of her thumb the blade emerges from its sheath, catching the painful light on the edge. Itās a new blade, never used, never tainted. Toga has plans for this particular blade. Her wrist flexes carefully, working to not flash a refraction of the light across anyoneās unsuspecting line of vision. If sheās caught her blade will most likely be confiscated with a lecture on being more diligent when it comes to her studies as the only replacement for what could barely qualify as a weapon. This wasnāt a weapon, not really. Knives were weapons. This meager blade could only offer her a taste of what she wants. And taste she does and the blade finally catches on what has been the object of her thoughts for these past, seemingly endless, months. The clean blade offers her a mirror-like surface to spy on her from like the Evil Queen looking through her magic mirror. The fairest one of all is on full display for her eyes only, working as studiously as ever on her math problems like all the other students around her.
Toga greedily absorbs everything she can about her in this moment. Mere drops compared to the monsoons sheās been gifted with in the past but itāll be enough for now. It has to be. Thereās only a few minutes left of classes for the day and she doesnāt work her part-time job today. Togaās sure of it. Just as she watches her now, she watches her always. Wanting so badly to know about her; her likes, her dislikes, what makes her happy, what makes her sad, everything. Itās more than a wanting, itās a necessity. Sheās like a drug that invaded her mind and clouded her thoughts with nothing but the next time sheāll get her fix and Toga is a blissful addict. A fang catches on the plush edge of her lip, biting down to muffle the nearly erotic noises that are threatening to bubble to the surface.
She isnāt doing anything. Not really. But itās all the small intricacies that make her entire being. Like each thread of a tapestry. Alone they donāt seem important, but what would the artwork be without them but an idea and an empty loom. Toga tastes her own blood, bitter and metallic on her tongue as she presses the tip of her pen against her mouth. Her lips are parted in the way Toga imagines theyād look if she were making a lewd noise, but only a sigh escapes those petal soft lips as she stares down at her desk pensively, pen catching between her teeth in thought. Toga spares a look down at the risk of missing even a second of her to see the pen so similar to the one being brandished so erotically between your lips. Thereās only the faintest hint of chipping on the cap. Because she donāt chew her pens, she simply bites. Holding it in place then releasing. Toga wonders how it would feel to do such a thing to her. To set her fangs against the delicate skin of her neck and feel her sink into submission before releasing her. Her thighs snap together beneath her desk.
The sound is caught in the cushion of the final bell. No one notices Togaās slip up, her debauched display that breaks her facade as a sweet and innocent girl. Sheāll be glad to be rid of this place if only until tomorrow. Her mask can come away and be replace with a more convincing one. Their blood tastes different on her tongue. Toga hums hauntingly at the thought of her blood. Perhaps today will be the day she finally gets more than a menial sample of the liquid ambrosia flowing through your veins. She stumbles against the back of lockers at the thought of how her blood tasted on her tongue. It had been a simple happenstance during the time the both of you were assigned to clean the classroom. A clumsy slide of her hand against a stack of papers had split her delicate finger open. It was a small sliver, only a single pearl of blood beading at her fingertip but Toga had been unable to stop herself. Facade forgotten in the face of what she craved most in that moment. She had laughed so abashedly at the feeling of her tongue laving at the small cut. Toga has played it off as a gesture between friends, a worry that she might get dust in her wound if it wasnāt attended to immediately.
Because she was her friend. Toga had made it so. Anything she could do to her closer to her was done in a heartbeat. At the thought of her already slinking so far away from her, Togaās chest tugs like thereās a string tethered from her heart to hers. She rushes through shoving her belongings in her locker and runs through the emptying halls just in time to see her dropping her bike lock into her book bag. The bike in question is an eclectic collection of stories that Toga knows by heart. Originally a somber black beneath the chipping teal paint, her father had painted it to be a unisex color; a bike shared between all three of his children. Her brother, though younger, was large for his age and able to ride it with ease. There are marks of him in the Hero trading cards pinned ever-so carefully to the back tire spokes. Her older brother is evident in the sawed off handlebars; an act of rebellion to remove the silver and white streamers that originally resided there. Her only addition was the faded and ripped flame decal slapped in the center of the guardrail; a act of solidarity with her older brotherās more rugged intentions for the communal mode of transportation.
Toga watches as she mounts the bike, carefully of sitting properly with uniform skirtāalthough a pair of shorts always resides beneath the pleated fabricāand kicks off the wet pavement. She wonders why she bothered to ride her bike to school in the first place. Winter is waning, but still hanging on to the last dregs of cold weather. This morning had been deceptively warm only for the clouds to fall heavy and break open with bursts of icy white just as the first bell rang. The snow has mostly melted in the afternoon snow, but thereās always the chance of small puddles icing over as the sun begins to set. Itās why she follows her, Toga insists, although it isnāt that at all. Itās an alibi for if sheās caught, but only if. She knows the route she takes home as well as her own, knows the people that linger on the way there. Toga steps into a thicket of bushes a few blocks out from campus and crouches in the fading light. Here she strips off her uniform, folding it into her bag and replacing it with something entirely new.
The woman that runs the food cart she passed everyday is clumsy and susceptible to the easy smiles and coquettish laughter that Toga has to offer. The day she caught the woman with an open wound was imminent, but took longer than expected. It had taken weeks to get even a few drops of her blood and it tastes oddly greasy on her tongue, much like the food she sells. The woman and her cart have been missing this past month, the cold keeping them at bay. Toga can only hope today isnāt the day sheās fooled into returning to her normal routine just as she was fooled into riding her bike. Toga can see her up ahead, small in the distance, but just a glimpse of you is enough to have heat spreading through her already ruddy cheeks. She wills her out of her thoughts and takes in a deep pull of the brisk air, fading out of existence as she walks the same path sheās taken so many times. Hopefully her familiar face will be enough to lure her into the trap sheās set out, but only time will tell.
A safeguard presents itself as she passes a group of children tossing chunks of ice and snow at each other. One child goes down with a wail, fat tears leaking down his flushed cheeks in an instant. Toga can small the blood and see the plan formulating. She makes a stop, ignoring the way her new body groans and lurches under its heavy weight, crouching down to assist the child. The cut isnāt terrible, just a few centimeters long and shallow, but thereās blood to be tasted, an identity to be borrowed. She soothes the cut with a maternal kiss and tastes the tart of his blood on her tongue. After a moment the tears stop and he goes back to playing. Toga ducks into a shaded store front thatās been closed for the day, taking off the womanās clothes to become a child. With another long pull of frigid air Toga fades out of existence, only appearing again once sheās standing directly in her path. As expected, the worn tire treads donāt take well to the ice hidden in the deepening shadows and she goes flying over the flaming handlebars to land heavily in a snow back. The slush cushions her fall and Toga mourns the painless landing. Thereās not a single trace of her blood in the air. Soon there will be. Very soon, Toga reassures herself. Disappearing long enough for her to start to come to.
For a moment, Toga thinks sheās missed a delicious taste of your exquisite blood, that her senses failed her. But as she moves closer to her prone, but awakening form, she realizes the red-dyed snow is the result of a Crimson Riot trading card stuck in the pile of snow like a throwing star. The Heroās namesake color being drawn off the paper by the watery bed sheās attempting to rise from. Without bothering to remove her closes, Toga uses her last dregs of blood to nearly triple in size. The childās clothing tearing in favor of the delivery man uniform she dons inconspicuously. It had been a lucky break that Toga had witnessed the poor manās first workplace injury as he sliced his palm open along with the box of packages he was delivering. Thereād been enough blood for her to maintain this form for at least a few hours, but with his burly build and long legs Toga wonāt need all that time. She leaves her bike to be found by the next passerby in favor of turning for home. A place where no one would dare call her anything less than sane. The voice in her head rejoices at the promise of having her all to herself. No one could stop her from being her true self when itāll be just the two of them.
She stays docile in Togaās arms the entire trip there, eyes opening for only a few minutes before closing again. The bruise on her head is darkening with the coming of night and Toga wonders if she has a concussion. It makes no nevermind to her. She always admired how she was rebellious in small ways; wearing bright colored shorts beneath her bland school uniform and refusing to wear a helmet when she rode her bike. Itās all so endearing and Toga wants to know why she does these things, how it feels when she does it. She wants to know everything. And she will. Her parents make no move to stop her as she caries her trophy over the threshold, dropping grey sludge in the entryway as she returns to the form they gave to her. Toga was born to be a predator. They made it so. Now they must reap what theyāve sowed in her. The fierce, feline appearance; a mane of wild blonde hair, restless golden eyes that split down the center, insatiable fangs that ache for her next taste of blood. Toga is only doing whatās expected of her as such a natural born predator. Sheās the meek prey, still weak in her arms. Toga can do as she pleases with the spoils sheās won. They donāt even venture to ask who she is. And if victory werenāt so palatable on her tongue sheād make them see, sheād tell them exactly who she is.
The goddess thatās bewitched her looks degraded on her bed. Simple linen sheets of a soft orange like the fading sun cushion you. White pillows spreading out like wings beneath your head and shoulders. Sheās the perfect picture of divine grace and Toga canāt wait to feel just as angelic. But first she has to see. Her limbs are cold and pliable under her hands, like a freshly dead corpse. Her clothes fall away piece by piece until only her underwear keeps her celestial innocence. Clothes donāt matter anyway. Toga has a uniform exactly like hers, so does every other girl in their class. She has to unwrap her before basking in the full glory of her. Toga maps out the skin sheās never seen before. Poking and prodding warmth back into her body as she takes in the hidden marks and scars she hadnāt known existed. Itās exhilarating to run her finger over the constellation of beauty marks sitting high on the soft expanse of her thigh, to feel the slightly raised texture of the scar just above her hip bone, to marvel at the pattern her waistband has left in her skin. Toga drinks in every part of her like sheās just traversed all the earthās deserts without a drop of water. Itās a miracle thereās anything left of her body for her to wake up in.
Watching her wake is like a dream as her lashes flutter to life to reveal the dim light of her eyes. Sheās confused but placated by the wide smile Toga affords her, fangs glinting like pearly blades in the soft light. The voice is thundering through her head again, louder than ever before. Begging her to take, to claim, to possess, to be. Because thatās what all this was about, Toga become closer to you. They say the closer you are to your friend the more similar you act. Toga wants to be closer than close to her. She wants to be so close that no one can tell where Toga ends and she begins. Her head lolls back against the mountain of pillows, hazy eyes still trying to become acclimated with her surroundings. The subtle movement stretches her throat in an enticing arc and Togaās fangs almost pulse with the need to consume and duplicate. Even with her so close the taste of her blood is fading from Togaās memory. She needs more. And sheād have it. Sheād have her.
The soft column of her trachea rises and falls with each erratic breath she takes. Toga leans closer to feel the air on her face, to fill her lungs with it. She is her. Toga inhales with her every exhale. Two sides of the same coin. Two bodies for one girl. But there can only be one. Toga profs at her ribs, slipping a hand under her shirt thatās become much too large after returning to her normal but incomplete body, prodding at the ladder of bones just under her own skin. Theyāre different in ways Toga canāt explain and she hates it. She hates her. She loves her. She is her. She speaks in fear as Togaās nails rake heated welts across her skin, trying to claw her open. To see why they arenāt the same on the inside either. Blood rises through the tears in her skin and the cloying scent of her blood soothes Toga. Her tongue is like molten lava against her cold skin as she likes over the drops of blood spilled forth by her own hand. The taste is almost orgasmic and Toga drops her head between the valley of her breasts, whining as the taste being to leave her mouth. Itās not enough.
Toga activates her Quirk, finally seeing herself as she should be. As her. Gone are the blonde flyaways and vertical pupils. Her fangs have receded back into her gums and her body has become something it isnāt. Something it should be. Sheās become her and Toga loves it.
āLook how beautiful we are. Look how beautiful I am.ā Toga growls in that seductively sweet drawl sheās always spoken with. Itās the voice of an angel. The voice that first afflicted her with this curse to be as one with the goddess she worships. But there can only be one her. Toga forces her to look in the mirror. To see her. There can only be one. And Toga wants to be it. She deserves to be it. Not the weak angel who wonāt say a thing to calm her worshipping prophet. She doesnāt deserve to be herself. What type of deity knows forgiveness but not mercilessness? Toga knows of the harsh other half. A thing she could never know of. But thatās beneath the mask of sickly sweetness. Toga knows of both sides. She is what Toga should be, what she appears to be. And she hates it. The reflections she watches her through, the routines sheās stalked her through; theyāre her own. Toga is the real her. This girl is an imposter that must be dealt with.
The grey sludge beginning to drip from her shoulders reminds her to remove the imposter carefully. To protect and preserve. To collect then dispose. Her blood is Togaās blood and she needs it. Itās hers. She stole it! Toga throws her back on to her mattress. The pillows are just pillows, the sheets are just sheets, the girl is a corpse living. The knives Toga wouldnāt dare bring to school are easily accessed her and she approaches her with one of her favorite blades, a needle, and blood bag. The cold blade is placed on her sternum, for later she promises, and the needle is stabbed into her arm with precision. Toga coos in time with her whining as the blood she stole is returned to its owner at a slow gush. It takes a few bags until her lips are pale and her eyes a dull. She looks like a cheap imitation as Toga glows with elation. The real her. She lifts your cardigan from the other discarded clothes on the floor. Tugging it over her head, ruffling the buns atop her head, to mimic the imposter in an act of poetic irony. When Toga looks in the mirror the only person she sees is herself.
Toga presses her nose into the cuff of her cardigan thatās slowly been stretched out of shape after years of wear. Even still when she sniffs the soft fabric Toga swears she can smell her. Just the faintest hint of her magnificent blood. But thereās no blood left to speak of. Itās all gone. Gone and used until she canāt turn into herself anymore. Sheās left in this purgatory between as she appears and as she sees herself. Her untamed blonde hair doesnāt stay in the buns she made look so dainty and polished. Her bangs are choppy and uneven after being hacked down to length with her Hello Kitty box cutter. And her fangs still ache for the taste sheāll never have again. Toga misses her. The her she used to be. Maybe a new friend will help fill the void aching behind her ribs. After all, Mr. Stainy has blood to spare.

Sex education comic strip graphic shirt meaning:
Thereās a pink dress in the Sex education comic strip graphic shirt and I love this collection that is a marvel in itself, and well as being a prime example of the designerās signature cutting technique, which is a kind of deliberate distressing. āAll of the samples are done by hand, so Iām standing in my studio here in Berlin with my roll cutters and draping everything on the dummy, [and] I wanted it to feel more like a fabric rather than just a technique. It has a little bit more of a lace-like delicate feeling, and is [sort of] transparent while still being completely covered,ā she explained. It seems fair to say that with this collection, Arnika owned the idea of badass eleganceābadass being the designerās favored adjectiveāwhile still delivering clubbable looks.

Tips to Place The Nautical Wallpaper On Walls

Wallpapering would be at the top of the list of the simplest and least expensive interior design renovation options. The appeal of wallpaper, which initially appeared in the 16th century, has already gracefully returned to home improvement and lifestyle trends. Nautical wallpaper now comes in a dizzying number of thematic and creative designs, genuine grass fabric, and distinctive textures, thanks to more refined processes and material attributes.
Unfortunately, even though it is the most adaptable home renovation method available, applying wallpaper has a number of difficult tasks and disadvantages, especially for novices.
Our post today will start with exploring a few comprehensive aspects of wallpaper applications with a list of tips. Let us get started!
1. Order Wallpaper Samples First.
Not all types of wallpaper, including their colors, patterns, and textures, are appropriate for use in interior design. To match your project's interior design goals with your vision. Before spending money on the wallpaper, order a few samples first, only to be disappointed. You can test and compare various designs and textures using several wallpaper swatches, which will aid you in making the best choice.
2. Always Place Bulk Orders For Wallpaper
It's okay to order a few extra rolls of wallpaper then you actually need because unintentional tears, peels, air bubbles, and improper installation are fairly common. However, placing a smaller purchase can just lead to incomplete wallpaper work. In rolls by the square foot, wallpaper is sold. Therefore measurement errors are uncommon.
Therefore, calculate the maximum overhang of each wallpaper strip with the assistance of a professional, and buy no less than 20% square footage than is necessary. You won't have to worry about mismatched lot numbers with obvious color, texture, or pattern variances when you purchase a lot, which is another advantage.
3. Plugs Should Be Covered
It can be highly risky to apply wallpaper around electrical outlets and switches, especially if the walls are damp. We advise you to turn the electricity off as a general rule. Run a voltage test later with the assistance of an electrician to confirm that no energy is still flowing through the power line.
Cover the electrical sockets and gently cut the wallpaper crosswise around the edges in the middle of the socket or switch the aperture with a cutter knife.
4. Watch Out For Wallpaper Creases
The wrong method, unprepared walls, insufficient soaking time, or work completed in a hurry will cause creases in brand-new wallpaper. When applying the wallpaper, you might want to divide the surfaces into different areas and press a small rubber roller for wallpapering onto the walls from top to bottom and from right to left.
Give the walls enough time to dry after uniformly smoothing out the wallpaper.
5. Consider the shrinkage of the wallpaper
Since wallpaper is typically put wet, novice installers frequently discover that the wallpaper shrank after drying. Even though the shrinkage of the wallpaper may first go unnoticed, you will soon begin to notice the terrifying holes around the corners of your room.
It is preferable to slightly overlap the edges when putting the wallpapers in order to prevent the potential eyesore your wallpapering job may cause. Once the walls have sufficiently dried, you can remove the additional wallpaper.
6. Refrain From Working On Uneven Walls.
Wallpapers have the power to drastically alter any interior design project, making the process of choosing and hanging wallpaper fascinating. If your wall surface is not ready for the process, do not begin. Blotchy wallpaper will only be produced when bumpy, uneven walls are wallpapered.
Therefore, before you begin the process, think about using fine-grit sandpaper to sand the walls and wallpaper priming. Alternatively, to provide a smooth surface and a solid bond between the liner and wallpaper layers, you might apply the lining paper first.
7. Areas With High Moisture Will Need Extra Care
Wallpaper can be installed in moist, condensation-prone spaces like bathrooms and kitchens with the proper equipment and methods. However, you will need to be particularly careful while selecting the type of wallpaper. Wallpaper with paper backing, fabric backing, or solid vinyl backing is a very moisture- and humidity-resistant textural material that is also long-lasting, scrappable, and simple to take down.
If you want to keep the wallpaper from getting damp, you might need to apply additional layers of mold-resistant wallpaper paste. Finally, experts advise coating the wallpaper with acrylic varnish to increase its moisture resistance. But before you make the last stroke, you might get in touch with residential painting service.

DEVELOPMENT
at the start of this project i had the idea of creating an image where floss is stuck in the teeth. so this image below is how i presented the idea.

the first thing i created begun by drawing out the mouth silhouette. i then used a cutting mat and box cutter to carve the shape out, i did this with two pages of my sketchbook. i then took long thin strips of my wedding dress fabric and cut them on the bias so when i stretched them out the edges were more hidden and it appeared thinner. i stuck them down onto the paper then took the second layer and stuck it on top so everything is hidden. i like this detail in my sketchbook i think it was worth the time.

next i wanted to do a sample using features of trousers. i chose to do the side pockets because i know for designing that i want to include some original parts of th e pieces i have chose. i simply cut the hem off my wedding dress and topstitched it into the pocket. if i did this on an actual garment i would sew it in a way where it could still be a functional pocket.

for this next sample i used the same template of the teeth as the middle, and added some tulle as the āflossā then topstitched it down with a domestic sewing machine. if i did this on my garment i would use the satin instead of tulle as i think it looks a lot better. however i wanted to experiment with variety of fabric.

as you can see, i have done some extra sample and little doodles for my page, the detail to the right was created using overlocker scraps to repurpose them and then i used acrylic markers to do a half and half illustration to get used to the silhouette more.
