Sasha Kurmaz (b. 1986), currently lives and works in Kyiv, Ukraine. 

Sasha is an interdisciplinary artist. In his artistic practice, he studies various models of interaction with public space, social groups and communities as well as explores the changing relationship between human beings and the modern world. The focus of his work is urban space, society, as well as examines the tension between the individual and the power structures. He uses different media to work with these issues, such as photography, video, public intervention, and performative situations.

Kurmaz has participated in many international group exhibitions and festivals and published in a wide range of international magazines.

During this two-month residency in Madrid, in the context of the European project “Other Edges of the World”, Sasha will continue his ongoing work about the effects of the war in Ukrainie and its impact on the territory. 

On Friday 24th February from 16 to 21h, Kurmaz will present part of his new collages at an open studio event at Celesta, street Nicolas Morales 37.

Sasha Kurmaz (1986), actualmente vive y trabaja en Kyiv, Ucrania.

Sasha es un artista interdisciplinario. En su práctica artística, estudia varios modelos de interacción con el espacio público, los grupos sociales y las comunidades, así como la relación cambiante entre los seres humanos y el mundo moderno. El foco de su trabajo es el espacio urbano, la sociedad, así como examina la tensión entre el individuo y las estructuras de poder. Utiliza diferentes medios para trabajar estos temas, como la fotografía, el video, la intervención pública y las situaciones performativas.

Kurmaz ha participado en muchas exposiciones colectivas y festivales internacionales y ha publicado en una amplia gama de revistas internacionales.

Durante su residencia de dos meses en Madrid, en el marco del proyecto europeo “Other Edges of the World”, Sasha continuará su trabajo en curso sobre los efectos de la guerra en Ucrania y su impacto en el territorio.

El viernes 24 de Febrero entre las 16 y las 21h, Kurmaz presenta sus nuevos collages en un open estudio en Celesta, calle Nicolas Morales 37.

Sasha Kurmaz/Worldwide/2010–ongoing

Cette série de photo de Sasha Kurmaz sont des interventions dans des espaces publiques qui sont souvent spontanées. Cette série de photos touche à des thématiques diverses : la pauvreté, l'absurde, la surveillance, le monde de l'art et ainsi de suite.

Originaire d'Ukraine, une partie de ses photos nous permettent de se rapprocher du quotidien de l'artiste continuant d'exister malgré la guerre, d'autres travaux quant à eux sont des témoins de son regard par rapport aux atrocités de la guerre. Il a d'ailleurs produit un film : state of Emergency qui retrace l'histoire du conflit à travers ses photos et d'autres sources.

J'ai vu cette photographie au DAZ festival à Zürich. Dès le premier regard tout est dit. Cela touche la thématique de la surveillance. En effet, l'artiste nous questionne sur la surveillance en lien avec les technologies actuelles. Accepterions-nous d'avoir une caméra chez nous pour assurer notre sécurité ? En Chine par exemple, les caméras de surveillance sont une réalité, elles voient absolument tout et sont censée aider la société.

Dans ce cas ou se trouve la limite de l'espace privé ?
