Ru is, uhm. The heir of one of the ruling families in the Ascendancy after his older sister (Eedris) got exiled to live a life of crime and galaxy domination, or whatever it is she’s up to these days lmao he’s sort of a liaison/double agent who’s working with Imperial Intelligence ... to show support, improve diplomatic relations and maybe also spy on them a little on the side, like you do. Ironically it’s the Empire and all the people he meets there who are very much Not Chiss that sort of broaden his horizons a bit and make him reconsider his life and his choices.

Sekhmis on the other hand is an ex-slave with a hunger for revenge :) her brother Rheuven aka Darth Imperius ended up on the Dark Council and used his influence to find her again/get her out of her unfortunate circumstances. So she joined the academy, got recruited for Imperial Intelligence and is now Ready To Fuck Shit Up. She just wants to see the world burn, but then things happen as usual and tbh maybe what she really wants is a fucking break.
