Getting away from Kathmandu can be quite easy. Just a 20 minute flight and I was in Lukla airport on the famed route to Everest Base Camp

The oldest temple of the Kathmandu Valley, ‘Changunarayan’. Kathmandu is great not just for the temples, but every year there are cycle rides that go around the valley. I chose the 70 km ride and it was sponsored by UNESCO, so over the whole day of riding with around 300 other cyclists I got to see every world heritage site of the Kathmandu Valley, Absolutely spectacular day to be rewarded by experiences and adventure from the hard work put into it.

As I walk around Patan with a packet of mixed crisps in my hand made by the local crisp shop guy, I like to stop and look at these beautiful old ‘pokharis’ that are scattered across the Kathmandu valley. This is the biggest one of Patan.

I’d just come back from the mountains and was wandering around this ancient town when I had a seat on the steps of a closed shop front in Patan, Kathmandu, when I suddenly realized that the commotion I could hear coming down the road wasn’t the usual bustle of Mangal Bazaar but was actually the festival of the ‘Rato Macchendranath’. This festival is to usher in fertility and prosperity into the valley of Kathmandu.

Around 8 in the evening we had been sitting in a local drinking hole drinking Rice Beer under this 400 year old temple and the moon appeared, I got out my phone and captured this moment. The name of this Newari bar is called ‘Honacha’
