Can you explain the lore? The death of the black parade and the faking of the death and the new tour? I’m very excited, I missed them so much 😭

I know this is a big ask, so thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to read (and maybe, hopefully, reply!)

ofc!! so far the majority of the ideas around tbp faking their deaths are theories based on past information. for me specifically, the fact that the black parade is dead tour in 2007 ended with the black parade, in character saying it was their last show ever and then never touring again is a huge giveaway, but also keep in mind that the album cover that featured their last song before disbanding, "fake your death" very prominently features a parader on a dilapidated tombstone/memorial statue.

The question really stands, is the black parade back on their own accord or are they being brought back against their will or as some kind of punishment?

the tour in general is surrounding the return of the black parade as the national band for DRAAG, under their "grand immortal dictator" that is implied to have risen either before or during the black parade's absence. the black parade is said to be in MOAT (whatever that is, we don't actually know, it hasn't been explored just yet) and have been brought back from exile? death? both? who knows.

the most prominent figures are the dictator, the secretary, the butler, their two guards, a dog, and the black parade themselves, who have not made an appearance as of late. all of these characters have seemingly been teased during the reunion tour through the setbuilding, gerards costumes, and some messages that were written on their kick drum throughout the tour. people have also made comparisons to their recent song "foundations of decay" and think it might be implying that foundations is only a taste of an album in the future that is meant to be a continuation of the original black parade album.

considering the attention to detail and storytelling with past mcr albums, all of them are concept albums with their own individual stories, these videos are obviously meant to be picked apart and analyzed and like other people, i personally think it's trying to hint at new content from them. an album most likely, maybe even a different medium like a movie or comic, if we're lucky, but it definitely isn't completely unnecessary advertisement for an anniversary tour.

partner and i have set up a wheel to randomly choose a movie we've never seen but have been wanting to for years, and tonight's selection was Alien...fuuuuuck WHY did i wait so long to watch it!!!! obviously not a controversial opinion, but it really is a masterpiece 😭😭 some thoughts below:

i am so struck by the skin-crawlingly upsetting design of H.R. Giger, where everything looks mechanical yet organic at the same time. that is exactly the kind of megalophobia-inducing architecture i imagine Allied Mastercomputer to have 👀 the dread and horror is so expertly paced, and of course gigantic kudos to the propmakers and setbuilders and everyone involved in creating such a cortisol-inducing atmosphere. there are so many grimy little details which make up the environments and the characters, and there wasn't a single moment where i wanted to look away. just. spectacular. Ellen Ripley my beloved i'm so SORRY for whatever else you're gonna go through 😭😭 our plan is to go through the whole Alien franchise, which should be fun!! i've seen Prometheus before and thoroughly enjoyed it (though it was actually my first 3D movie, which. was a ride for a 14 year old. iykyk 💀) apologising in advance for when it reactives my ancient fixation on David 8 🙈

How does doing the books together work? I'm guessing or it looks like maybe roachpatrol writes them and splicketylit does most of the drawing and then rollerskatinglizard does the sales and posts and stuff? I want to write books some day and it seems like working with friends would make it easier, but how did you get some friends interested to help?? Did you think of a book and then go hey actually OOMF could help with that? Or was it something else? Thanks in advance!

Hm! I'll take this one point at a time I think, because there's a lot here.

RE: our roles, I think you're misapprehending the concept of "cowriters"! Which one of us has the energy and inspiration at any given time varies, but all three of us plot/brainstorm, write, and edit on all the books! We have strong points we tend to lean into--Skates is really great at the minutiae of publishing sites and advertising posts and compiling our rambling discussions into roadmaps, Roach comes up with world embroidery/texture/setbuilding details like it's his job, and on a good day I can turn outline into prose and check off edits at a pretty breakneck pace--but these books are our shared babies, and they wouldn't be the same books if any one of us hadn't been intimately involved in every step!

RE: establishing a cowriter situation, I can only speak for how we ended up cowriting; we were fandom friends first, playing with each other's OCs and ideas. Eventually someone broached the topic of "hey do you want to write an actual freestanding story about some of these goobers we've been making up?" and ever since we've been in a three-way discord chat, brainstorming our way forward as a group. :D

Addendum: Just to temper your expectations, I don't know that I would say that cowriting is "easier" than writing by yourself! It's easier in some ways--having other people to bounce ideas off of, being able to lean on your cowriters' strengths, etc--but it requires a LOT of trust both in your friendship and in your cowriters' skills, and even with both of those things there will still be friction! Multiple people all trying to create the perfect image of the pie-in-the-sky novel they're imagining are going to conflict sometimes, and resolving those moments can be hard on both the level of friendship AND of collaborating artists.

Roach compared it to gem fusion when I posted this in the group chat to discuss our thoughts, and I do have to corroborate that. Last time I started working on the next novel near one of my cowriters in person, we did glow and mesh into a huge sexy hottie with four arms. So you may want to be prepared for that, also. UoU

I'm Alive!

We dream every night of our lives, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but always a representation of what we are thinking about. I rushed from my bed to tell you all about my dreams.

I dreamed of depression, and the 2010s fetishisation of it, and how inauthentic that feels when you're really in a bad place. But I also dreamed of life, performing arts, stage craft and setbuilding, and how all of those have helped to unleash my own creativity.

I haven't felt inspired for a very long time, and it was beginning to weigh upon me. But I might just be back into production mode now, and I'm looking forward to seeing what spills from my fingertips!
