The Volume License Serializer (VL) is used to activate Office 2019 for Mac as a volume licensed version. It's an approximately 4 mb package file that you run on a user's computer, either before or after you've installed Office.

Download the Volume License (VL) Serializer from the VLSC

To download the VL Serializer, do the following steps:

Select the Download and Keys tab.

Search for 'Office 2019 for Mac Standard.'

Select the Download link in the results panel.

Select the Continue button at the bottom of the window.

Select the icon (circle with download arrow) to download the VL Serializer .iso file.

Once the download is complete, mount the .iso file to extract the VL Serializer package file.

The name of the package file is Microsoft_Office_2019_VL_Serializer.pkg.

The VL Serializer package contains a binary executable that's named 'Microsoft Office Setup Assistant.' It's this executable that actually activates the volume license.

The VL Serializer package is compatible with mobile device management (MDM) servers, such as Jamf Pro or FileWave.

Problem: The CrazyHook version is missing all the animated cutscenes.

Solution: If you already have the Claw CD/DVD, or an ISO image, simply copy the CLAW.FEC file (located in MOVIES) directly to your CrazyHook folder.

Unable to jump properly

Problem: Claw jumps far too low, barely gets off the ground, and his movement is unnaturally fast.

Solution #1: Enable vertical synchronization (a.k.a. v-sync) in your video card's control panel. The number of frames per second will now be limited by your monitor's refresh rate, which should be 60 hertz in case of most LCD displays.

Solution #2: Running Claw in windowed mode (see above) should also fix the problem.

Unable to launch the DVD version

Problem: While launching the DVD version, the screen turns black. The intro movie can still be heard playing in the background, but then the game crashes.

Solution: Unfortunately, the high quality cutscenes from the DVD version cause the game to crash under newer Windows versions. To disable them, double-click the *.reg file found in the /EXTRAS/Windows XP Registry Fix directory on the disc. Note that they can still be played separately, i.e. using WinDVD or similar DVD playback software. As for in-game playback, the downsampled cutscenes from the CD version will be used instead.

Loss of saved games

Problem: After reaching a save point, the 'Your game has been saved' notification is displayed. Hovever, the next time Claw is launched, all the progress is lost.

Solution #1: Launch the game using an administrator account, so that it can access and modify the CLAW.USR file, where the saved games are stored. Note that under Windows Vista and later versions you still have to use the 'Run as administrator' command found in the right-click context menu, even if your account actually has administrative rights.

Solution #2: Install the game in a folder that is fully accessible from non-administrator accounts, such as 'My Documents'.

Solution #3: Provided that you are an advanced user, and are absolutly sure what you are doing, you can manually set access rights to the Claw installation directory, so that its contents can be changed without administrative rights.

Black multiplayer setup screens

Problem: All the multiplayer setup windows are black, with unreadable text. Nonetheless, the game still appears to be working properly.

Solution #1: Download the rip version, which appears to be unaffected by this problem, at least under Windows XP. Since it can be installed alongside the full CD/DVD version, you can use it solely for the purpose of playing online.

Solution #2: As a last resort, you can use our screenshot gallery to memorise the placement of settings and buttons.

Unable to take screenshots

Problem: The PrintScreen key does not work as expected. Screenshots are almost entirely black, with a few brighter pixels scattered here and there.

Solution: To take a screenshot, press Ctrl+D while playing. A bitmap file will automatically be saved in your Claw installation directory.

Playing without the CD/DVD

Problem: I would like to be able to play the game without having to insert the Claw CD/DVD every time.

Solution #1: Download the rip version from our site.

Solution #2: Create or download a disc image file and mount it in a CD/DVD emulator, such as Daemon Tools.

Solution #3: Download a crack. Note that in order to retain access to in-game cutscenes, you have to copy the contents of the /MOVIES and /MUSIC folders from the disc to your Claw installation directory. It is important that you only copy the files inside rather than entire folders, otherwise it will probably not work.

Available patches and language versions

Problem: What are the differences between various versions of Claw and which of them require updates?

Solution: The 1.0 and 1.1 versions are exactly the same as far as the actual game is concerned. The latter however is a DVD version with additional, high-quality MPEG-2 movies. The 1.2 update fixed a few minor bugs, made boss fights noticeably easier and added a few cheat codes. The latest version is 1.3, which adds TCP/IP support and thus is required to play online. Technically, it is still in beta phase and will remain so as Monolith never officially released the update.

Run SOLIDWORKS on a Mac - April 16, 2019

This is a fairly long-standing issue we come up against on the Innova Systems technical support desk, and also while talking to prospective customers about SOLIDWORKS. The simple answer is that SOLIDWORKS do not develop an Apple Mac version of the software, so we can’t install SOLIDWORKS natively.

We used to recommend the Bootcamp route, which involves installation of Bootcamp and then Microsoft Windows on the partition Bootcamp creates. The issue here is that if you need to access the Apple Mac Operating System (OS), you would need to shut down windows and boot up the Apple Mac OS, because they cannot be running simultaneously. This allows the full use of the hardware (RAM and graphics card) you have in your Apple Mac for Windows.

The alternative solution that we used to steer people away from is Parallels, a virtual machine software that allows you to run another OS inside the Mac OS (inside a window). The reason for not recommending this is that you are sharing the resource of the machine with two operating systems, thus not necessarily having the required resource to run a demanding program like SOLIDWORKS.

There were also historic problems with not being able to use the graphics card properly which would result in exceptionally slow performance when selecting things. This is due to most Macs not having certified graphics cards for SOLIDWORKS and parallels using a virtual graphics card driver or the default Windows driver. The virtual or generic drivers don’t offer the level of performance needed to run SOLIDWORKS correctly.

We have now installed and configured this on over 20 users’ Apple Mac computers and I have to say the response from these people has been amazing.

I have a mid 2014 MacBook Pro, which I’ve been using as a test bed. The specs are listed below:

You will note that this machine has Intel Iris Graphics (specific to the Mac) and not a certified graphics card for SOLIDWORKS.

So, I installed the latest version of Parallels (version 10) and a fresh copy of Windows 10 into the virtual environment and then set about making SOLIDWORKS work!

It’s pretty easy to get Windows installed, as Parallels guides you through that process very nicely. You can specify how much of the machine’s resource to give to the Windows OS – which is where a high spec Mac will stand you in better stead. It is always a good rule of thumb to assign half the available RAM to the Windows OS, so in my set up, I assigned 4GB of RAM.

The difficult bit is making the “Use Software OpenGL” button inside SOLIDWORKS become accessible. When you first install SOLIDWORKS, this button is ticked and greyed out, so we can’t turn it off. In our opinion, SOLIDWORKS is unusable at this point, as selecting geometry and navigating the software is too slow to be productive.

With a bit of effort, and some registry modifications, I was able to untick the OpenGL box, allowing us to use the graphics card to a much higher potential. The difference in performance was huge, and it allowed me to select and navigate the software much, much faster. One limitation that frustrated me early on was the lack of RealView Graphics (Accurate reflections and appearances), so I set about solving this problem too. I’m happy to report that RealView works perfectly on a properly specced Mac Book Pro!

Of course, this isn’t necessarily a new solution – Parallels has been around for some time, and installing Windows on a Mac for as long. The difference with our solution is that we can make SOLIDWORKS behave as well as a normal windows PC. No more slow selecting or poor rotational speed.

Above is a screenshot of the working set up, albeit in Window mode, not full screen. I have this running at a resolution of 2560 x 1600 in full screen mode and it is functioning very well. Please note: the specification of my Mac, and the resource I can assign to Windows is far from ideal. It would be recommended for people who are creating fairly simple parts with up to 100 features, and assemblies containing up to 500 components. Any more than that, and I think it would struggle.

In summary, the Parallels solution is now recommended by Innova Systems. We are confident of this working well in a production environment, but the spec of the Mac is key to the success. Along with our modifications to the registry in Windows, of course.

Q: 'Can I save the Microsoft Office installation to an external hard drive and run the application from it? I have a laptop with a solid state drive of 30GB memory. Microsoft Office has installed on the system, taking considerable disk space. I am wondering if it could be uninstalled from the laptop and installed on an external hard drive.'

Assuming that there are two situations in which users would request an Office copy, move or transfer to a portable drive, one is when to choose an external drive for download and install, and the other one is to change the location of an existing installation from a PC to an external drive.

Are both scenarios working in the same way? Not necessarily.

A: 'When you install software it will create registry items within the Windows folders, which are on the main drive, usually the C drive. So, if you want to be able to run Office on different computers via the external hard drive, it may fail due to the lack of essential registry contents, unless using a professional PC transfer software for help.'

'What's more, Microsoft would have to provide a portable version, which we don't think they have.'

How to Transfer Microsoft Office to an External Hard Drive or a USB Drive

So, if you wish to save disk space by installing the large-size Microsoft Office 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and Office 365, to somewhere else other than the local drive, and be able to run an application from an external drive, make it happen in the other way.

How to Install PuTTY SSH for Windows

For security reasons, PuTTY has replaced the previously provided SSH Secure Shell for Windows as the supported method of remote access.

PuTTY is a free implementation of SSH, SCP, and SFTP for Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms. [macOS and Linux typically already have SSH, SCP, SFTP clients.]

Note: The installation must be performed with Administrator rights (either using the Administrator account or your personal account must have Administrator permissions).

Download PuTTY

Step 1 Open a web browser to visit the official PuTTY download site

Step 2 Look for the Package files, MSI (Window Installer) for the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the latest PuTTY release to download.

The 32-bit version of PuTTY [version] installer.msi will run on all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of PC and Windows editions that PuTTY supports.

The 64-bit version of PuTTY-64bit [version] installer.msi will provide better performance if your PC processor and Windows edition are both 64-bit (typically true for relatively new Windows PC).

If you are not sure which version to install, then select the 32-bit version.

Install PuTTY

Step 1 Open File Explorer (Windows 10) or Windows Explorer (Windows prior to 10).

The Windows logo key + e shortcut works for Windows 10 and earlier versions.

Navigate to the Downloads directory (or wherever you saved the installer) and double-click on the installer file name.

Step 2 The installer starts, showing the Welcome to the PuTTY Setup Wizard screen. Click Next.

Step 4 The installer next asks you which PuTTY features to install.

Step 5 It is convenient to have a shortcut on your desktop.

Change the Add shortcut to PuTTY on the Desktop from unavailable (red x) to Will be installed on the local hard drive.

Click Install. If you are prompted to run the PuTTY Installer, then allow it to run.

Step 6 The installer will inform you when the install is complete. Click Finish.

Starting PuTTY SSH

If you created the PuTTY desktop shortcut during the installation, then you have the PuTTY icon on your desktop.

If you did not create the desktop shortcut or cannot find it, then select the Windows Start button located on the bottom left of your desktop.

Scroll to menu item PuTTY or PuTTY (64-bit), then select PuTTY.

The PuTTY Configuration window will start.

Enter the hostname or IP address of the remote host you want to connect in the “Host Name (or IP address)” field, then click Open.

You are alerted the first time you connect to a remote host to inform you the host’s SSH key is not cached in your PuTTY registry. This is normal.

Click Yes to save the remote host’s SSH key in your local PuTTY registry to proceed.

If in the future you connect to the same remote host, then you should normally not see this alert.

Enter your remote host username and password at the login as: and Password: prompts, respectively.

Starting PuTTY PSFTP

Step 1 Select the Windows Start button located on the bottom left of your desktop.

Step 2 Scroll to menu item PuTTY or PuTTY (64-bit).

Step 3 Select PSFTP. PSFTP is the PuTTY secure file transfer (SFTP) client. Use PSFTP to transfer file(s) to and from your local PC and remote host.

Step 4 Enter open hostname where the hostname is the remote hostname or IP address you want to connect. For example, open mason.gmu.edu.

If this is the first time you connect to this remote host using either PuTTY or PSFTP, then you are alerted the remote host’s SSH host key is not cached in your PuTTY registry. This is normal.

Enter Y to save the remote host’s SSH key to your local PuTTY registry to proceed.

If in the future you connect to the same remote host, then you normally should not see this alert.

Step 5 Enter your remote host username and password at the login as: and Password: prompts, respectively.
