Crossovers are weird, right?

So, back in 2014, there was a small crossover between Transformers and Neon Genesis Evangelion that was headlined by an Optimus Prime decked out in the colors of the Evangelion Unit-01. This release was supplemented by a four-part prose story where Starscream apparently merges with the Angel Sachiel and Prime, realizing that the EVA has a life-force within it (assumed to be Shinji Ikari), scans the EVA to grow in size to use its power to defeat "Angel"-scream, and NERV thanks him by giving him a trailer/battle station of their own design.

A few years later, in 2018, the anime Transforming Bullet Train Robot Shinkalion had protagonist Hayato Hayasugi travel to a parallel world where NERV collaborated with the Shinkansen Institute to create their own Shinkalion units in place of EVAs, leading to an alternate version of Shinji showing up piloting the Shinkalion 500 TYPE EVA. Shinji would then make a few appearances in the series afterwards, even appearing in the feature film of the anime that also feature an 11-year old pilot named Hatsune Miku and a snow monster assuming the form of f**king Godzilla.

...who, by the way, once existed in the same universe as the Transformers due to both properties being licensed by Marvel Comics back in the day. Oh, and let's not forget to mention the NERV-Made Anti-G Weapon, a version of MechaGodzilla designed by Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinikawa as part of an official collaborative project between NGE and Godzilla. And that's not even counting the 4D film attraction that debuted the Shin Godzilla version of King Ghidorah.

Shinkalion Z & Evangelion Crossover Episode to be Aired in Japan on September 17

    The official website for Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z, the second installment of the train transforming robot anime franchise Shinkalion, announced today that its crossover episode with the Evengleion franchise will be aired in Japan on September 17, 2021, as its 22nd episode. It will be the third time for Evangelion to collaborate with the Shinkalion anime, following the first TV anime series in 2018-2019 and the feature film Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion the Movie: Mirai Kara Kita Shinsoku no ALFA-X in December 2019.

  Asw with the previous two collaboration, Megumi Ogata will reprise her iconic role as Shinji Ikari once again. She says, "It's really great and I'm very grateful to be asked to collaborate with another work after the main 'Evangelion' series came to its end. For the 'Evangelion' fans, I hope they'll enjoy this new form of Eva, which will also be powered up by the Z-combination. For the fans of 'Shinkarion,' I hope they will enjoy the activities of the unusual Shinkarion Z and a little strange Onii-san."

    Shinkalion is an original character content co-created by JR East Planning, Shogakukan-Shueisha Production, and Takara Tomy. Its first TV anime Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion the Animation was aired for 76 episodes from January 2018 to June 2019, then followed by a feature film Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion: Mirai kara Kita Shinsoku no ALFA-X (Godspeed ALFA-X that comes from the future) in December 2019. Its second TV anime Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z has been broadcast in Japan since April 9, 2021.

There is also an Angel in there that looks like a fusion of all Angels from the Rebuild Series. The scene of the Eva transformation with A Cruel Angel's Thesis in the background is awsome, and the fact that Godzilla is also in this movie makes me wonder why they didn't make an actual Godzilla vs Evangelion movie instead of a atraction.

Evangelion Gets an Upgrade for Its Third Shinkalion Crossover

  Neon Genesis Evangelion is having a big week, as the world catches up to its much-anticipated final film. But that's not all the hit Gainax series has going for it this week. It's also just been announced that Eva will be making its way to transforming mecha series Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z!

  This will mark the third crossover between the shows. The worlds first collided in episode 31 of Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion, whose robots transform from Japan's much-loved bullet trains. Shinji Ikari piloted the Shinkalion 500 TYPE EVA, a robot version of Japan Railway's now retired Evangelion bullet train. He appeared again in the Shinkalion theatrical film. Megumi Ogata reprised her role as Shinji both times.

  Apparently, the crossover mecha will be getting not one, but two new upgrades!

    The Shinkalion Z 500 TYPE EVA is (in the context of the series) developed jointly by NERV and the Shinkansen Ultra Evolution Institute's Kyoto Branch. It wields the Progressive Signal Knife, an in-universe adaptation of Evangelion's Prog Knife.

    We'll also get to see the Shinkalion Z 500 μ-SKY TYPE EVA, based on the Meitetsu μ-SKY Limited Express Train. This version of the 'bot will wield the Spear of Junctionus ("Bunkinasu").

  Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z premiered this past April on TV Tokyo. At present, the series is not officially licensed in North America.

Shinji Ikari to Make Guest Appearance in Shinkalion 31st Episode as Evangelion Shinkansen Pilot

Following its first appearance in the 17th episode aired on May 5, 500 TYPE EVA, the 500 series Shinkansen decorated with the EVA-01 color, will reveal its transformation into its Shinkalion robot form in the upcoming 33rd episode of the TV anime Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion. In addition, the Evangelion franchise's main character Shinji Ikari is confirmed to appear as its pilot, and of course, Shinji's original voice cast Megumi Ogata voices her iconic character. The special crossover episode is scheduled to be aired in Japan on August 11.

   The 500 TYPE EVA bullet train was introduced in November 2015 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sanyo Shinkansen Line and the 20th anniversary of the TV anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was designed by the Eva franchise's mechanic designer Ikuto Yamashita and supervised by the franchise's original creator/general director Hideaki Anno. After the 14-month exteinsion due to very high demand, it ended its operation in May 2018.

Kotono Mitsuishi Narrates Evangelion-ish Trailer for Shinkalion Film

     The miracle collaboration happens again, it is on the big screen this time. The official YouTube channel for the Shinkalion anime franchise has posted a 30-second special Evangelion-ish trailer for the forthcoming feature film Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion: Mirai kara Kita Shinsoku no ALFA-X (Godspeed ALFA-X that comes from the future), narrated by none other than Kotono Mitsuishi in the original Eva trailer style, along with Hikaru Midorikawa, the voice of Shinpei Izumi in Shinkalion.

  The film marks the second collaboration between the Shinkalion and Evangelion franchises. In the 33rd episode of the Shinkalion TV anime aired in Japan on August 11, 2018, the Eva franchise's main character Shinji Ikari, voiced by his original voice cast Megumi Ogata, appeared as the pilot of 500 TYPE EVA, the 500 series Shinkansen decorated with the EVA-01 color. Both Shinji and 500 TYPE EVA will make an appearance in the film's story. 

Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion: Mirai kara Kita Shinsoku no ALFA-X is set to be released in Japan on December 27, 2019.
