New Month, New Course, Same Goals

When I started this Business Model Development course, my main goal was to develop a strong and actionable framework for establishing my permanent makeup and paramedical tattoo business. I wanted to improve my understanding of creating a sustainable company model that meets consumer wants, uses my unique capabilities, and distinguishes my services in a competitive market. As someone deeply committed to empowerment via beauty and healing, I wanted to transform that passion into a clear, customer-centric value offer and a realistic, executable business plan. This course accomplished my goal in a meaningful way. Using tools such as the SmartStart Canvas, I was able to break down my business concept into basic components, recognizing the difficulties my clients encounter and developing unique solutions. I learned to carefully categorize my market, grasp the subtleties of serving both medical and cosmetic clients, and define the distinct values my company provides: inclusion, artistry, and expert care. The planned activities and peer conversations gave me invaluable views, allowing me to refine abstract concepts into tangible methods. One of the most impactful lessons from this course was the emphasis on the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). By focusing on essential items like semi-permanent brow tattoos and scar hiding, I can build a solid foundation before moving into more sophisticated services or goods. This method not only reduces risk but also enables me to gather critical consumer input early on, ensuring that the solutions I supply truly fulfill their needs. Another major insight was the value of channels and income streams. I learned how to assess the cost-effectiveness of various strategies for reaching clients, ranging from social media sites like Instagram to relationships with healthcare providers. I also recognized the potential for several revenue sources, such as aftercare product sales and training seminars for aspiring technicians, to support the growth and sustainability of my firm. Moving forward, I intend to implement these skills both personally and professionally. The SmartStart Canvas is a dynamic document that I will return and change as my business grows. Furthermore, the analytical and strategic perspective I learned during this training will influence how I approach decision-making in everything from marketing strategy to customer relationships. On a personal level, this training underlined the need for iterative growth: begin small, listen to comments, and gradually improve. As I continue my entrepreneurial path, the insights gained from this course will guide my actions and decisions, ensuring that my company not only grows but also remains loyal to its objective of empowerment and transformation.

Thinking About Entrepreneurship Finance: Realizing Dreams and Making Dreams Come True.

I was in the Entrepreneurship Finance class hoping to have a solid background in financial analysis and financing of Oasis Mirage’s launch. I didn’t want to be too scared of a capital-heavy business.

The course was invaluable for everything from costing and funding to projections of profit and loss. Discovering startup cost breakdowns allowed me to manage the multifaceted financial requirements of Oasis Mirage. For instance, a mixture of fixed and variable costs makes operational flexibility possible in the high- and low-peak periods. I also learned how to find the breakeven point, which is very important when making monetary plans.

Further, the SMARTstart model was focused on acquisition and retention of customers. With this model I would like to introduce memberships and premium plugins to make recurring revenue. That’s exactly how Oasis Mirage envisions a premier wellness oasis.

Lastly, the contingency planning component has taught me to be ready for anything. If I build agility into the business model like providing event hosting and wellness programs for corporates, I can keep it financially strong .

Not only has this course given me the information to launch Oasis Mirage, but it has also built my self-belief as an entrepreneur. I’m looking forward to using these values to build a successful and long-term business.

(IEMS) PRODUCT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT - MASTERY JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT:

Goals can be challenging to make and create when you are not too sure of what to expect, especially when it comes to a college course. In regard to this class and similarly to previous courses, I didn’t have too many expectations, therefore, it was difficult to create goals to achieve. Given the name and what I was able to look up about the course in the syllabus, I knew there would be an aspect of development to my business endeavors and further potentially collaboration, insight, and sharing of ideas with peers and other professionals in the entrepreneurial field. My original goal for the course was simply to develop my products and design a solid plan and foundation for my business.

This goal of mine was met by this course through updating my SmartStart Canvas, weekly reading assignments, watching interviews, and participating in discussions. This course helped and assisted me with reaching my goal by providing me with the resources, tools, and opportunities needed to accomplish my goals.  

I learned a lot from this course. For example, this course taught me the importance of product design. I learned about a design sprint and why it is crucial for the sake of innovation to allow teams to rapidly explore and test ideas. I also learned about why the lean start-up changes everything, from the Harvard article in week 2 that displayed and presented models and templates to fill out that further help to develop a business plan.  

Since last month, I haven’t changed much about my SmartStart Canvas. I worked very hard, diligently, and thoroughly the first time I created and filled out my SmartStart Canvas, so there wasn’t too much to change, aside from the addition of more detail, including offering services in a healed setting, addressing treatment for physical ailments and health concerns, incorporating a potential name for my business, and of course, updating the date. The things that lead to my changes were simply just wanting to add more detail and clarification to my SmartStart Canvas.  

I will apply the material learned in the course personally and professionally. The way I will apply it personally is by retaining the information and maybe even sharing it with friends who are also trying to start businesses because I believe in helping each other, regardless of the pushback that might cause me to experience. The way I will apply it professionally is by using the information learned to possibly and potentially analyze and choose business partners.
