What to Do in the Philippines: Outdoor Activities in the Mountains
Mountainous areas offer thrilling outdoor pursuits that give you a chance to disconnect from the outside world. While these activities demand guts and perseverance, they are joyful and can help break up the monotony of daily living. So why not consider a mountain adventure if you're considering vacationing? You can enjoy these activities as you discover new locations and have novel experiences. But what activities are available when in the mountains?
The ideal season for outdoor recreation in the mountains in summer. Mountains are the perfect location for these activities because they have significantly cooler temperatures than coastal areas and those at lower altitudes. Winter temperatures are still frigid, but springtime is considerably more tolerable. White-water rafting is an option for those seeking adventure in the highlands. However, be ready to wear a wetsuit because the rivers now have more water in them due to the snowmelt.
In the mountains, hiking is one of the most popular outdoor activities, particularly in the summer. Most mountainous areas include hiking routes ranging in length from quick strolls to multi-day backpacking excursions. Prepare for some outdoor fun by packing a picnic and some sunscreen. You'll be happy that you did. Everyone may enjoy this activity, whether they seek a new adventure or are a family. Additionally, it's a fantastic chance to learn more about the mountains.
While these activities are a lot of fun and can improve physical health, they also present chances to advance independence and decision-making abilities. They also encourage a positive outlook on life and education. Ultimately, these pursuits aid in cultivating a love of nature and the environment. For the welfare of our future people, this is crucial. As a result, schools must incorporate outdoor activities within their curricula. For pupils of all ages, these are fantastic opportunities.
You can select a recreational activity that best meets your needs and interests in the Rocky Mountains. There are several challenging activities in the area, such as ice climbing and rafting, and you can even participate in charity work. Numerous locations provide guided trips to assist you in selecting the ideal activity. There are endless locations to explore the mountains with a wide selection of activities. For every personality type, there is an activity. The hills are the ideal location if you're seeking a restful, revitalizing holiday or even a peaceful weekend escape.
Another popular outdoor activity in the Rocky Mountains is canyoning. It entails traversing a canyon by ascending, descending, and jumping. Caving gave rise to canyoning, which uses both sports methods. However, it requires a variety of climbing and downclimbing tactics and, if you're not competent, can be very difficult. In addition, canyoning takes place in remote locations, so you'll need to be able to manoeuvre the terrain and make wise decisions.
In the highlands, hot air ballooning is another well-liked outdoor sport. A fantastic way to experience a mountain destination from the air is to take a hot-air balloon ride over the mountains. Hot air balloon rides are available from balloon bases in Telluride, Park City, Aspen Snowmass, and Steamboat Springs. You can select either a short or lengthy ride based on your height. Great date or a romantic event are both possible.
The opportunity to escape from it all and spend time with your loved ones is another excellent benefit of outdoor hobbies. Outdoor pursuits can enhance your general well-being and are enjoyable and challenging. They're also fantastic for increasing physical fitness or getting in better shape. You can also participate in team sports like mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, and hiking. In addition, spending time outside may be quiet and enjoyable for many people.
Even give paragliding a shot. Even though it's less well-known than other outdoor activities, it will give you an unforgettable sensation. Of course, you can attempt bungee jumping or paragliding if you're feeling very daring. You'll experience an odd sense of freedom as a result. But, of course, the adventure will be more enjoyable if you have a pro who can show you the ropes.

Where Should You Ski This Winter?
Read this post on where to go to learn more about skiing this winter. You will learn about ski destinations such as Montgenevre, Kitzbuhel, St. Moritz, and Zermatt. You may be amazed by the range of ski resorts accessible in each area. You may also read about the different rules in each location and how to make reservations.
This winter, there are various reasons to visit Montgenevre, France. There are 49 ski slopes and 70 kilometers of cross-country terrain at the ski resort. It has 31 ski lifts and 9 green lines, so there is terrain for all ability levels. The resort is close to the Italian border. You may ski down to Italy and return in a helicopter, allowing you to experience the Alps from above.
Kitzbuhel is one of Austria's most popular skiing destinations, with a variety of slopes and resorts. The ski season lasts from mid-October to mid-April, and there are more than 170 kilometers of slopes. Winter is the ideal season to visit the town for a family ski trip. The town also hosts some of Austria's top Alpine events.
Although it may not be as visually appealing as other Swiss resorts, St. Moritz is an excellent destination to ski this winter. It is located at the foot of the spectacular 4000m Piz Bernina, near the lowest lake in a long chain of lakes. As a result, it is one of those spots where you just stop to gaze. This town's broad, beautiful alpine scenery and winter wonderland vibe are simply breathtaking.
Zermatt, Switzerland's pure beauty and natural surroundings make it a perfect destination for a winter skiing vacation. From the resort's two snowboard parks to its man-made half-pipes, there are many of alternatives for everyone, from novices to seasoned skiers. The majority of the slopes in town are boarder-friendly, and numerous stores rent out snowboards. There's even a snowboarding school for individuals who want to learn the sport.
Although the skiing in Wengen is not as sophisticated as in other sections of the Alps, it is nevertheless possible to experience the finest of local skiing. There are several ski schools in town with English-speaking instructors. Wengen was most likely designed for family, with multiple toboggan and curling routes, as well as outdoor skating during the holiday season. If you're new to the sport, Wengen features a beginners' section where you may learn the fundamentals securely. Because it has a t-bar ski lift, even little children may participate.
Alpine Meadows is tiny in size, but it makes up for it in topographical variety. There are classic tree-defined runs and lightly forested regions, as well as actual bowl acreage. The landscape at the resort is similarly a combination of manicured and ungroomed. Skiers who like skiing in the woods will appreciate the broad, widely spaced trees.
Snowmass Village is located near Aspen, Colorado. The Aspen/Snowmass complex includes the Snowmass ski resort. On December 17, 1967, it opened its doors. The Aspen Skiing Company owns and manages the resort as part of its ski operations. There are also several options for lodging. Aside from skiing, the town has hiking trails, a famous art center, and numerous fine dining restaurants.
Trysil is a great option for a family ski vacation this winter. The slopes here are much less busy than in the Alps. It's unusual to discover a slope that's almost completely vacant, particularly during the holiday season. At the base of the major slopes, Trysil also offers a bike arena and a Lego tent. There's also dog sledding and sleigh excursions through the woods for the youngsters. There's also a fantastic location for astronomy, where you can view the northern lights.

SHOPPING:
Enjoy a stroll through the downtown area, where you could easily dine, drink, and shop for days. Aspen’s understated elegance is evident everywhere, particularly in the storefronts. The epitome of elegance, the Prada Aspen, is only one of many luxury shops. For amazing deals, stop by The Little Bird, a consignment shop where you can find Gucci, Chanel, and other designer names to fill your closet. For the discerning shopper, Pitkin County Dry Goods carries casual clothing that makes an elegant statement.

VISIT THE ASPEN ART MUSEUM:
Immerse yourself in Aspen’s rich arts and culture scene by strolling through the free Aspen Art Museum, which puts on rotating contemporary art exhibitions. With an exterior finish reminiscent of a woven picnic basket, the 33,000-square-foot, three-story museum building—designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban—is a work of art in its own right. We recommend timing your visit to align with lunch so you can grab a bite at the bright, airy rooftop cafe.
Tumblr media
VISIT THE WHEELER OPERA HOUSE:
The stunning 133-year-old Wheeler Opera House—an elaborate, lovingly maintained Victorian-era gem—has a full calendar of comedy shows, dance performances, festivals, concerts, and other events. The Aspen Historical Society also offers guided tours of the iconic building, which has maintained its status as the community’s artistic hub for decades.

HELP OUT THE LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER:
Had to leave your pet at home? The Aspen Animal Shelter has a feel-good solution for you. The for-profit, no-kill organization’s Rent-a-Pet program allows visitors to borrow dogs from two hours to an entire weekend. Not only does it provide exercise and socialization skills; it increases adoption rates. Dogs are paired to match personality and athletic ability. If you’re a cat person, you can volunteer to hang with adoptable felines, as well.

TAKE A MOONLIGHT STROLL:
One of our favorite things to do is walk (or snowshoe!) by moonlight (or headlamp). Try the 21 miles of groomed trails around of Ashcroft, but wherever you go, be sure to let someone know, and take plenty of layers and a map.

Mercedes Jones is currently 27 years old and is the chef the resort. Mercedes identifies as bisexual.
A little about Mercedes:
Mercedes Ari Jones, was created for greatness. She knew it, her family and friends knew it, and anyone who spent five minutes alone with her knew it. She had determination, motivation, and the skills to succeed, but she also had the drive to be the best. She was the best. She and her family wanted for nothing. As the oldest Daughter of Baker Richard Jones and school Principal Jones, hard work was all she knew.
Mercedes had picked up cooking at a young age as it was a way that she and her dad would bond; while he was a baker by trade, he was a chef by choice. She took up any chance she could to learn different techniques on cooking and baking. By the time she graduated, she had decided to forgo college for a year or two to travel around, understanding the different styles and tastes.
Mercedes traveled to New Orleans, Tokyo, France, Spain, Morocco, Kentucky, Malaysia, London, Chile, Denmark, San Diego, Argentina, Florence, and Bologna, Italy. She was learning about their culture and their eating habits and cooking techniques. She eventually stayed in Paris to attended Le Cordon bleu and got quite the cooking reputation for being creative.
Eventually, Mercedes was a name that others knew in the cooking world, and once she mastered cooking, she went back to horn her baking skills. Whatever she did, she did with hard work and dedication. When Mercedes finally returned to the states, she honestly had her pic of places she wanted to work, but there was something about The Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort that spoke to her. She loved the area, and during her interview, she fell for the kindness of the people who worked there. And the fact that she could be head chef, eventually showing off her baking skills when needed, sealed the deal for her.
Now three years later and Mercedes was happy she made her choice. The place felt like home, and she chose to keep it that way. And it helped that the guest all loved her daily specials, always something new and exciting, something that gave them a taste of another different place around the world. Because Mercedes is versed in many cooking skills, she can make those homesick guests feel right at home.
Mercedes is a very down to earth and fun-loving woman; she is hardworking, determined, and loyal. But she can also be stubborn and sarcastic, with Sass mixed in the middle. Her style hasn’t changed a lot from when she was younger. While she really loved dressing up, when she is at home, you can find her in jeans/yoga pants and a T-shirt. Mercedes always has her hair done, her long locks are seen either down and free or in a messy bun. Her makeup is natural and subtle, and the girl has curves for days.

10 Places Where The Jetset Are Skiing This Season
#1 Courchevel, France
The highest of Courchevel’s five villages, officially simply called Courchevel, is the prestigious place to stay in this French resort in at one end of the 600km Trois Vallées ski area. Still often known by its erstwhile moniker, 1850, not only is it the main lift hub, with gondolas heading up in three different directions, it is home to huge numbers of four-star, five-star, and Palace status hotels, luxury chalets and some pricey shops.
#2 Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
Italy’s chicest destination is an ancient mountain town in the Dolomite mountains surrounded by soaring cathedrals of sandstone. In Cortina, the business of skiing and snowboarding plays second fiddle to the social sport of seeing and being seen outside and inside the elegant boutiques and antique shops lining the pedestrianized main street, Corso Italia.
The center of the village is dominated by a green and white bell tower and a glittering confection of grand 19th-century mansions. Encroaching twilight is the signal for Cortina to come out and play – a colony of voluminous fur coats and designer ski wear gathers noisily in the Piazza Venezia at the start of the evening passeggiata. Then, much later, the party atmosphere is transferred to intimate wine bars, expensive restaurants, and a smattering of softly-lit nightclubs
#3 Verbier, Switzerland
Some Swiss resorts may match Verbier for luxurious chalets and hotels and vibrant après, but none quite have its cool cachet – and that’s large because none can rival its challenging high-altitude terrain. Anyone who can handle Verbier’s itinerary routes, never mind the couloirs, can consider themselves pretty darn good.
Along with black runs and unmarked off-piste runs to explore with a mountain guide, the itineraries (which, though loosely marked, are not formally controlled or patrolled) are where many experts spend their time. From the top of the ski area, Mont Fort at 3,330m, there is only one black run and serious off-piste to be tackled with a guide – but everyone should ride to the top for the views.
#4 Lech, Austria
Few resorts have a more exclusive image than Lech. Princess Diana was its most famous patron and other past visitors include the Jordanian royal family, the Dutch royal family, and Monaco’s Princess Caroline. But despite its blue-blooded guest list, Lech is far from showy.
The original cluster of inns has expanded in both quality and quantity, and there are three five-star superior hotels, along with some award-winning restaurants. The car-free satellite of Oberlech above the village, once the summer domain of shepherds and cowherds, has also grown almost into a resort in its own right, with huts replaced by expensive hotels. While many Austrian resorts are well known for lively après ski, Lech best suits more sophisticated, cocktail-sipping types.
#5 Megève, France
The epitome of aristo chic, Megève, a former farming village, was founded in 1916 by Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, who decided that France should have its own St Moritz. It succeeded in attracting the rich and famous – in the 1950s French singer, Sacha Distel was king, sharing bubbles with Yves Montand, Brigitte Bardot, and Jean Cocteau among others.
Today, it is home to nine five-star hotels and five Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as several of the world’s finest mountain spas. Glittering boutiques and galleries line the traffic-free medieval center and ancient cobbled streets, and mean, along with an outdoor ice rink, splendid church, and horse-drawn sleighs, that Megève suits those looking for an all-round winter holiday, not just pounding the slopes.
#6 St Moritz, Switzerland
Welcome to the world capital of winter glitz – walking the streets in high season, it would seem that Prada and Bogner are the sole manufacturers of ski wear and that mink fur coats are mandatory. St Moritz is divided into three villages, Dorf, Bad, and Celerina, around or near Lake St Moritz, with Dorf having the pick of shops, nightlife, and restaurants.
However, there’s more to St Moritz than bling. Its position close to the border with Italy and a ski area high point of 3,305m gives it a rare combination of both snow and sun reliability. It was also the first all-round winter-sports resort in the world and boasts a myriad of on and off-snow attractions from skating and bobsleigh to polo, horse racing, and cricket on the frozen lake.
#7 Aspen, USA
During the 1880s Aspen in Colorado enjoyed a brief silver-mining boom and then, after decades of neglect, its historic core was brought back to life thanks to the American skiing boom of the late 20th century. Glamorous and fashionable, it is delightful to stroll around in the evenings, window shopping in designer boutiques from Dior to Moncler, and enjoying the varied restaurants and bars, of which there are over 100.
Aspen has four separate ski areas – Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass, and Aspen Mountain. Aspen Mountain, with long cruising blue runs and short, steep blacks, is accessed from town by gondola, while the other three are reached by free shuttle buses. Buttermilk is the smallest and least challenging, Snowmass the most extensive with terrain for all, and Aspen Highlands has both easy intermediate slopes and the super steeps of Highlands Bowl.
#8 Kitzbühel, Austria
This medieval town with its heavily buttressed walls and delicately painted frescoes, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser mountains, is one of the most beautiful in Austria. Pretty, pedestrianized streets are lined with luxury hotels, smart fashion boutiques, and wickedly expensive cafés.
Judge by the fur-clad clientèle browsing shop windows, and Kitzbühel also might seem the ritziest resort in Austria. However, while there is a wonderful choice of four- and five-star hotels, even at the top end of the tree prices don’t reach stratospheric heights. It’s also one of those rare resorts that genuinely appeals to non-skiers, and has a buzzing nightlife scene.
#9 Courmayeur, Italy
This traditional mountaineering village sits at the foot of Mont Blanc at one end of the Mont Blanc tunnel, with Chamonix in France at the other end. The heart of Courmayeur is the pedestrianized Via Roma, lined with smart boutiques and enticing bars and restaurants, as well as delicatessens and shops selling antiques or homewares. Restaurants both in town and on the mountain are of a particularly high standard, and Courmayeur is one of the spiritual homes of the long, lazy lunch.
Courmayeur is less than two hours from both Geneva (116km) and Turin (150km), making it ideal for a short trip. Well‑heeled Italians from Milan and Turin arrive en masse on Friday evenings, thronging the designer boutiques and cocktail bars. Fortunately, since the ski area is a compact 36km, only a small number hit the slopes – they come for the party rather than the piste.
#10 Zermatt, Switzerland
There's a busy, prosperous feel to the center of Zermatt, with ambling fur-coated couples, designer shoppers, and Japanese or Chinese tour groups rubbing shoulders with purposeful mountaineering types. Switzerland’s most famous resort also brings together every scenic Alpine cliché, from the world’s most photogenic mountain, the Matterhorn, to streets lined with a jumble of blackened, weathered, wobbly-looking chalets.
Views from everywhere on Zermatt’s varied, extensive slopes are stunning, including from its outstanding mountain restaurants and spectacular gondola lift to the resort high point of Klein Matterhorn at almost 4,000m. Plentiful long, scenic red and blue runs will satisfy intermediates, while itinerary runs (avalanche controlled but not patrolled) and off‑piste challenges are the main attraction for experts, especially those willing to ski tour or heliski. For extra mileage, Zermatt is linked to the slopes of Cervinia in Italy.

History of Aspen: From Silver to Snow
The origins of Aspen are filled with truths and tales. From the original settlers to the origin of the ski season, this town and this valley are rich in history. We scouted out Aspen through the decades, from silver to snow, in our latest guide.
Tumblr media
As seen in Volume 7 of The Scout Guide Aspen. Image courtesy of Aspen Historical Society.
What once started as gathering grounds for the Ute Indians, Aspen quickly became a booming mining town that subsequently went through a lengthy quiet period, decades of transition with growing pains, and ultimately into the modern-day mountain mecca we know and love today. Here is a summary of Aspen through the decades, from silver to snow.
Until the 1870s // The Utes use the area as their summer hunting ground, going back centuries.
The 1880s // Originally settled as Ute City by a group of miners and incorporated in 1881, the city is officially named Aspen in 1888. Miners, prospectors, and entrepreneurs reside in town and the surrounding valley, with schools, grocery stores, and services established as the area grows.
The 1890s // Electric lights arrive in town, along with banks, a hospital, police department, theaters and to much fanfare, a grand hotel.
The 1900s // Mining is on the decline, the Ashcroft and Independence mining areas go bust, and bankruptcy abounds. To account for the town drama, a newspaper revives the local gossip column.
The 1910s // Farming becomes the newest currency, in the form of cattle and potatoes. Dubbed The Quiet Years, the population starts to decline.
The 1920s // Cars arrive in town, and Independence Pass is completed after more than a decade of work.
The 1930s // The lowest recorded population of Aspen during a census accounts for just 705 residents. In the latter part of the decade, a ski resort is conceived but put on hold due to World War II.
The 1940s // Aspen Skiing Company founded, Sardy Field opens, Bauhaus arrives, and the ethos of mind, body, and spirit is born.
The 1950s // Buttermilk and Highlands ski areas open and residents celebrate the first Wintersköl.
The 1960s // Snowmass ski area opens, Ruedi Dam is approved, the first condominiums arrive in town, and the arts and music scene begins to flourish.
The 1970s // The population starts to rebound from the previous decades. Aspen elects its first female mayor, mass transit is born, and the first traffic light appears. Snowmass commences the wild west tradition known as the rodeo.
The 1980s // Skiing in the Aspen area draws an international crowd, along with hordes of celebrities and the birth of private clubs. Snowboarding finally arrives, as well as the Silver Queen Gondola.
The 1990s // The population sees a boom that it once saw in its mining heyday more than 100 years ago, with thousands of year-round residents that swells to three times or (much) more in prime tourist season.
The 2000s // Winter X Games arrives, along with a new generation of visitors that come to visit for the summer but never leave.
The 2010s // Snowmass Village gets a facelift, milestone celebrations abound for skiing and arts, and Aspen finishes the decade with one of the snowiest winters on record.
The 2020s // A new chapter for Aspen begins.
live. love. local.

Top 5 vacation destinations
This one is tough.
1. Italy- I went once as a "study abroad" (the quotes are necessary because the amount of "studying" we did over the 4 weeks we were there was absolutely pitiful), and I loved loved loved it. We stayed in Florence but took day/weekend trips to Venice, Sienna, Rome, Cinque Terre, Voltaire, and Luca. I will never ever forget that trip and want to go back so bad.
2. My aunt and uncle's house in Sarasota, Florida- They actually live on an island called Tortola for most of the year but keep the house in Sarasota for emergency weather purposes. My family has stayed in the Sarasota house several times over my childhood, and I just love the fact that it's like 10 minutes from a beautiful private beach, close to a downtown area with shopping, but also the neighborhood is beautiful, and they have a pool.
3. Snowmass, Colorado- I snowboard, or I used to at least. I went to Snowmass with a group from college and I had more fun snowboarding there than I will ever have here. I'd like to go back at some point, but I'd need to convince some of my friends to a) learn to ski or snowboard, and b) come with me to an actual mountain to do so.
4. Ireland- This one doesn't have a story, I just wanna go.
5. Anywhere in the carribean- beaches
