The Bene Gesserit are very similar to Catholicism, their clothing is very similar along with the word ‘Gesserit’ itself which closely resembles the word ‘Jesuit’ which is a religious order of the Catholic Church headquartered in Rome. These similarities are extremely interesting and add another layer of depth and detail to Dune. Details like this are an extremely effective way of building up a story relatively easy. Basing fictional thingy on reality is extremely common and extremely effective as it can often make it seem more realistic.
