Just for fun I bought Fortnum & Mason’s Strawberry & Champagne jam at my local Williams Sonoma today and made some scones for a treat. The jam looks and tastes delicious, absolutely nothing like the sludge M is promoting. I may order a jar of the BP or Highgrove jam just for fun. The price isn’t bad but the delivery charge to the U.S. is at least £20, so I’ll have to think hard about whether it’s worth it.

Postmodernity is dead. Long live whatever is going on right now. It'll be dead before we can figure out what to call it.
I'm a few years removed from an academic context where I'm sure I could be properly corrected on this, but I've been lumping a lot of current post-postmodern of a certain flavor under the title of Vermeulen/van der Akker's definition of "Metamodernity" as the traditional postmodernity of the mid to late 20th century gives way to whatever we're experiencing today. Thats right, despite the harangues of cable newscasters, Postmodernity has been over for decades. Literary and artistic movements are rarely named while they live and breathe (unless they're some astroturfed "[PREFIX]-Punk" genre driven by posers) and so to try and name what's happening today is futile. But for simplicity's sake lets file this one under "Metamodern" so I can actually write this filmpost on the surrealist film "Greener Grass."
The last couple times I've mentioned the concept of metamodernity has been with Quentin Dupieux's surrealist film "Rubber" and-- on the absolute other side of the spectrum --Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." Greener Grass is like if the movies swapped directors, with the mind behind Mr. Oizo taking a crack at what dealing with life and womanhood in a pink-saturated nightmare is really like.
Anyone who grew up in an affluent suburb with a William Sonoma store in their local mall will likely resonate with this film. I think we all remember those , whip thin mothers of classmates who drove Escalades and wore outfits too intentional to not be expensive. Their kitchens were massive and uncooked in. The exercise classes they attended were always feminine, nonthreatening, and adhered to with iron wills usually reserved for Olympic training. One must be pretty like you were in college sorority but a homemaker like his mother in the 70s but "with it" in ways that don't conflict with the new Land Rover financed in your McMansion driveway. The performance of gender and class and perceived societal value is incredible, and that's exactly what Greener Grass is about.
The film talks about something much more complicated than "Barbie Goes To The Gynecologist." It's a film about performance, social hierarchies, and the injustice of artificiality thrust upon us by the manufactured standards of innocuous but deeply "wrong" systems. And it does so by creating a surreal world of skinjob characters pretending that everything is perfect, ignoring the graves their children play over as they conduct monstrous business with a smile and polite posturing. Everything is pink. Everything is perfect. Your son drowning himself and turning into a golden retriever is perfectly normal, even if he does flunk math class. It is dreadfully important you continue to be a good mother.
The fact that Covid killed this movie is a travesty. Go watch it.

California State University placed Sonoma State campus President Mike Lee on leave Wednesday after he agreed to protesters’ demands to involve them in university decision-making and pursue divestment from Israel. Lee sent a campus-wide memo Tuesday indicating that he had made several concessions to occupants of a pro-Palestinian encampment on campus. The memo was sent “without the appropriate approvals,” CSU Chancellor Mildred García said in a statement, adding that she and the 23-campus CSU system’s board are “actively reviewing the matter.” “For now, because of this insubordination and the consequences it has brought upon the system, President Lee has been placed on administrative leave,” García said. The punishment marks perhaps the harshest disciplinary action against a campus chancellor or president in California over the handling of protests of the war in Gaza. It also underscores an unwillingness to divest from Israeli weapons manufacturers — as pro-Palestinian protesters across the country have increasingly demanded the last few months — among leaders of the CSU system and its sister University of California system.
California universities including UC Riverside, UC Berkeley and Sacramento State have agreed to study divestment like some East Coast universities, but none have gone as far as Lee. Lee told the campus that he would initiate an academic boycott of Israel, in which links to study abroad programs in the country would be removed from university pamphlets, among other measures. He also agreed to work with a local chapter of the activist group Students for Justice in Palestine to form an advisory council on some decisions. Lee further pledged to review the school’s contracts and a campus-specific investment fund called the Sonoma State Foundation for ties to Israel “to determine a course of action leading to divestment strategies that include seeking ethical alternatives.”
“In my attempt to find agreement with one group of students, I marginalized other members of our student population and community,” Lee wrote in a follow-up message to members of the campus Wednesday. “I realize the harm that this has caused, and I take full ownership of it. I deeply regret the unintended consequences of my actions.” Lee did not immediately return a request for comment. His decision to engage with protesters had quickly drawn backlash in the 24 hours since he announced the deal with demonstrators, which included them dismantling their encampment. California Legislative Jewish Caucus Co-Chair Scott Wiener, a Democrat, condemned Lee’s concessions to the “Boycott, Divest and Sanction” movement in scathing terms. “Yesterday the President of Sonoma State University aligned the campus with BDS, a movement whose goal is the destruction of Israel, home to 7M Jews,” Wiener wrote on X Wednesday. “Several other UC & CSU campuses are doing this more subtly. Sonoma State simply said the quiet part out loud. The mask is off.”
Wiener and fellow Caucus Co-Chair Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel later issued a statement praising the decision to place Lee on leave, saying he had been “unfit to lead one of our great state institutions.”
-- From "California university president put on leave for ‘insubordination’ after meeting Gaza protesters’ demands" by Blake Jones for Politico, 15 May 2024

what’s with the antis narrative that if misha spends time with jensen/jensen and danneel he would share it on social media every time? do they think he uses his friends for clout/engagement or something?
there have clearly been plenty of instances where they’ve spent time together and no-one documented it on social media or even said anything until the story slipped out at a later time or they shared a photo, like with jensen and the photo he kept private for 10 years before sharing it, or misha and the blankey photo that obviously wasn’t new
Misha and Jensen literally kept quiet the fact that they cohabitated for three years until after they moved out and Jensen sold the property, then Misha tweeted out blankeygate. (Also, a good chunk of fandom kept that info in discrete grapevines almost the whole time.)
They literally do not understand their relationship at all, and that motivates the better part of their arguments. Whereas fuckers out there like 2po are deadass arguing with real maps about what central valley is because that's about what they have left to headcanon out of thin air because all he computes of Misha is Ventura County.
Lbr dude didn't even have the cockles condo shit and denied it until he got embarassed. Mfer does NOT have his central valley location. Genuinely funny that all they have left is the exact bickering about North Vs South That Even The Locals Have Differing Opinions On as the semantics they're spiraling in, not making any actual headway about Misha living nearby because they don't know where to start arguing.
You can LITERALLY google "north south california map" and you'll find there's 200 takes on that, and that's it. That's what they have left to argue about. Which map to use. Which any neighbor in california might even argue them on. Jesus christ the desperation. Please someone get them some deodorant, it reeks.
The idea of calling Sonoma North Cali is, for example, hilarious on a political scale. If you're trying to segregate it from the Bay Area or Central Valley (or, specifically, Sacramento Valley), then you call it Wine Country. And he's really trying to spin this because he literally has nothing else to grab treads on. His means of finding literally ANYTHING AT ALL to criticise is, quite literally, this low.
If that's what he wants to swing at, that's fine, but whatever label or map you wanna use, dude, Misha's nearby. Sorry for your titanic doorknob sucking loss.
Maybe it's all some cunning plan to make me be more specific on where Misha is so 2po stops shitting his pants in the margins?

The Spot where Sausage is Supreme and Charcuterie is above all the rest. Among the best places to eat at the historic plaza in the town of Sonoma is The Sausage Emporium. Few people know the real details about sausage and “cold cuts” as owner Miranda Ives does.
Tumblr media
She also knows how to pair beverages with the right combination of sausage and meat. This reporter had the opportunity to chat briefly with Ives while enjoying a favorite of mine from the regular menu.
The Vietnamese Banh Mi, made with The Sausage Emporium’s own pork sausage, paté, house pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, fresh mint, jalapeño and sriracha creme is yummy. What surprised me was the fresh baked bread-roll (actually it’s a short baguette) it was served in. The aroma alone made for an exceptional culinary experience as that baguette was soft yet slightly crisp and warm. The reviews and ratings for the Sausage Emporium are high and raves.
The harmony of hot, spicy and subtle tangy flavors was very satisfying. The other aspect to The Sausage Emporium I noticed is that there’s a variety of sausages and meats that can gratify just about any palate.
Being in Wine Country, Ives knows her stuff and can prepare a dish that will do more than impress; it takes the taste buds to new levels of experience. Being able to pair a particular wine with a food is a talent and I think it’s crucial.
For example, there are many wonderful wineries and wine-makers in the Sonoma Valley that are eager to have their wine served at a restaurant. Yet in efforts to sell wine and promote it, few tasting rooms take the time to really pair food with what they want to sell.
A really fine Cabernet Savignon like the one I had at the Zina Lounge at the Ledson Hotel, a glass of something sparkling at SIGH, or a Petite Syrah such as the one offered at St. Francis upvalley in Kenwood needs to have something exceptional to go along with it.
Ordinary grocery store cold-cuts truly don’t do a fine wine justice. I’m sorry to say that some of the tasting rooms at the plaza and elsewhere don’t understand this fact. A Sonoma or Napa Valley wine that can truly rival that of any in Europe must have a good food pairing to highlight its own flavor and regional characteristics.
Certainly Sonoma and Napa area can make fine cheeses but quality meat, specifically a sausage or local bologna? Hmm! Here’s where Ives and her staff can help. Charcuterie board servings are popular and The Sausage Emporium makes them.
Not many people know this but to make real bologna or mortadella, prosciutto, etc. is a “slow-food” art. Oscar Meyer or Hormel and others does only the mass produced type; of which Americans are used to.
Pepperoni for instance is essentially an American version of salami, something close to what Italians might call ‘salame piccante.’
As Ives knows, it’s a generic term that means “spicy salami.” It’s made from beef and cured pork mixed together and then seasoned with a blend that usually includes paprika, garlic, black pepper, crushed red pepper, cayenne pepper, mustard seed, and fennel seed.
Ives of course has her own recipe. Still, just about every pepperoni producer uses a different mix and ratio of ingredients, but paprika is always present. The paprika is the ingredient that give pepperoni its color. And most likely according to food historians, perhaps paprika had something to do with the name “pepperoni.”
Only someone like Ives would know that and provide a customer a more discerning understanding of what really good pepperoni is.
Tumblr media
For foodies it’s also important to know that The Emporium’s ability to pair food with beverages doesn’t stop at wine and beer. Sausage Emporium serves delicious coffee and is even promoting its own holiday blend just for the winter season called “BeanWrks.”
Tumblr media
The Sausage Emporium is Women-owned and operated, with an unpretentious, casual dining area in a memorable and friendly atmosphere, serving breakfast and lunch, along with as mentioned charcuteries, retail sausages, salumi, local wine, champagne, craft beer, and cider.
Open Wednesday through Sunday The Sausage Emporium begins serving breakfast at 8:30 AM and closes after lunch at 3:00 PM. Weekends- Saturday & Sunday doors open at 8:00 AM and close at 4:00 PM. See The Sausage Emporium for website details.

I Lost My Mind
Sorry that I dropped off the face of the Earth for a bit. I have been in a holiday frenzy. I mentioned that I'll be flying down to visit my mom in Florida for a few days. What I did not consider is that taking a chunk out of the middle of December would send me into hyper-holiday prep. I felt like I needed to have EVERYTHING done before departing on the 12th. Ev-er-y-thing. So I put my head down and trimmed the tree, decorated the house, shopped, wrapped, wrote and addressed cards, wrapped some more, baked and baked, and finally checked the last task (packing and mailing a box) off my list. When I return home on the 17th my biggest worry will be preparing for the Christmas meal. I'll have a handful of days to panic. We may have tacos for Christmas dinner if I drop the ball.
youtube
The mister had mentioned making the hour long drive up to Christiana Mall in Delaware earlier this week. I told him that if I could get everything done on my list, I could go on Thursday. I worked like a mad woman so I could go to that damn mall. I used to take malls for granted, then I moved to Dogpatch. So I met my self-imposed deadline (the last cookie was packaged at 7pm on Wednesday night) and went to bed with a heating pad and visions of shopping dancing in my head. I was not disappointed. It turned into the best day! The most wonderful part? It snowed on us! All the way to Newark we were treated to this:
youtube
I can't even tell you how happy it made me. After our snowy trip we walked into the mall and right into a giant Barnes and Noble. Man, have I missed browsing in a brick and mortar bookstore. I made a wish list a mile long. *sigh*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mickey and I split up and I visited Lush and bought a couple of sparkly bath bombs for my favorite 5 year old, walked a couple of stores down and picked up a little something for my sister's upcoming birthday, browsed in Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma (swoon!), and put some mileage on my shoes poking around in numerous other shops. It was such fun, I felt like an Amish girl on rumspringa. We met for a quick lunch and then headed off to the local Trader Joe's for a few things. We didn't have snow on the way home, but at least the car smelled good from that sack of bath bombs. Tomorrow I'm volunteering at the Friends of the Library booth at Winterfest. I think I'm running the Pin the Nose on the Snowman game. I doubt it will compete with all of the bouncy houses and big stuff, but hopefully some little bookworms will find us. After the festival I'll once again become a crazy lady, cleaning this house top to bottom and getting packed for the trip. I want to come home on the night of the 17th to a house that doesn't need a thing, because we'll be hurtling right into Christmas. Note to self: never again travel in December. I know I'll have a ball in Florida. I wanted to see my mom before I start the library job and lose the freedom to travel whenever I want (I've forgotten what it's like to ask for time off!). My sister is going to join us and we'll be able to celebrate her birthday on the 15th. It'll be good for all of us, some girl time. And that, my friends, explains my absence. I'm a one-woman holiday crew. The house is pretty, the tree is sparkling, gifts are purchased, wrapped, and tagged, cookies are baked, cards are mailed, and this elf is done. Well, I say one-woman, but I am never alone. Someone is always there, watching.
Tumblr media
See her in there, just behind the white and gold bow? I can't keep her out of there. At least she doesn't climb it. I'll try to write a bit more tomorrow, I think I'll actually have a little time. I may tromp around in the woods and look for some greenery to cut. I want to make a festive swag to hang over those ugly blinds.
Tumblr media
Hmmm. Maybe not. Looks a little too busy. Maybe some light garland. Whatever, it's not like we're on the Christmas home tour. Until tomorrow (I hope), I hope that you're enjoying every bright and shiny bit of this season. Turn on some holiday tunes and boogie your way through your chores. That's what keeps me going.

Stay safe, stay well, stay jolly! XOXO, Nancy

Sacramento Waterboy Review
WHAT WE ATE:
Drinks:
A glass of some kind of Pinot Noir
a "Tequila Honeybee" (??)
a "Hemmingway's Daiquiri" (??)
I'm not 100% certain on the names because I cannot find the cocktail menu we had online.
First course:
Bruschetta: Toasted Focaccia, Burrata, Roasted Local Stone Fruit (We Had Peaches and Cherries), Watercress, Basil, Balsamico
Cheese Plate: Selection of Four Cheeses with Toasted Bread, Crostini & Olives
Seasonal Vegetables (Heirloom tomato)
Main course:
Sonoma Liberty Duck Breast “Panzanella”: Toasted Focaccia, Local Cherries & Grilled Peaches, Arugula, Glazed Spring Onions, Balsamico
Mixed Grill of Lamb Chop, Quail & Bacon: Tomato-Eggplant-Zucchini Gratin, Crispy Fresh Corn Polenta, Rosemary-Shallot Jus
Dessert:
Summer Fruit (Strawberry) Crostata with Housemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Affogato: Warm Pachamama Espresso Served Over Housemade Vanilla Ice Cream
I had the Duck and the Affogato, so I can not give a proper review of the "Mixed Grill" or the Crostata, though I did have a nibble here and there.
THE COCKTAILS
We were seated outside on the patio and although it was the early evening and still hot, it was quite nice because they had misters (??) spraying mist essentially directly on us, at least until some troublesome trout WASP women came in during the main course and had it turned off. We started off with the cocktails. Let me be frank, and do not let this tarnish your view of the establishment as a whole: they were mid. Despite, nay, because of the many ingredients that went into each one, they were extremely one-note and surprisingly acidic. The creator of these drinks clearly believed in cocktails being boozy, and boozy they were, but they were so at the cost of taste; my Honeybee did not taste of honey at all, but luckily I am a fan of raw tequila, so I wasn't too mad. My heartburn, however...
FIRST COURSE
Soon (the service here was very timely and friendly, a small but crucial sticking point when it comes to Finer Dining) we were served the First Course. We had ordered the bruschetta because the last time we had it, at the same seemingly ridiculous price point, it was Life Changing. Who knew that bread, tomatoes, and balsamic could be so damn good?
To my horror, the bruschetta had no tomatoes whatsoever. It was all peach hunks and cherry halves, sat atop a healthy serving of burrata (a good sign) along with some kind of herbs, many of which were entire leaves (I Do Not Like this, I wish restaurants and spring rolls would give up Entire Leaf as the means by which to give an herbaceaus flavour to the dish, it is too firm and fibrous compared to everything else in any given dish and therefore I am still stuck chewing it when all else has already been masticated and swallowed. It's disgusting. Stop.). The crostini was soaked with oil (butter?) and was delightfully crisp and greasy.
I'm on team Fruity Bruschetta now. It works. It's great. The sweetness and acidity of the fruit contrasts with the salty creaminess of the burrata, and then the crisp oiliness of the crostini brings it all together by giving you that delightful and drawn out crunch.
I'd be damned if I could remember exactly what the cheeses were supposed to be on the Cheese Platter, but they were some kind of Brie, some kind of French cheese that was aged in ashes (to be referred to as Ash Cheese), a Blue cheese that, we were told, had been aged in fig leaves soaked in whiskey, and a semi-firm that tasted very mild.
My personal favorites, in order from best to worst, were Brie, Ash Cheese, Semi-Firm, and the Blue. I have nothing to say about the semi-firm nor the blue, they were very generic for their kind and frankly, I have never been a fan of Blue Cheese or stinkies as a whole.
The brie was also fairly generic for a brie, but it was somehow extra Fine in its taste, perhaps because it was served at room temperature, as brie is supposed to be served, and not directly out of the fridge, as I tend to consume it.
The ash cheese had a strong, cheesey flavor, somewhat akin to a gouda, and was very appallingly gummy? It stuck to the roof of my mouth like it had decided it wanted to be peanutbutter, and a single bite of it took me several minutes to really swallow down. Tasted good though.
The platter itself did not have enough bread, so we resorted to eating cheese, particularly the non-offensive semi-firm, on the heirlooms. This was a delightful combo; always feel free to get creative with your meals, do not feel constrained by a chef's intents. Sometimes they don't know the correct cheese-to-crostini ratio. The almonds and olives in the centre were a nice touch, and the apricot (?) jam helped the blue cheese become something genuinely delicious rather than a painful, smelly chore. Strong cheeses are best when contrasted with something else. They did not give me enough of the jam, which is a shame.
The heirlooms were essentially a caprese salad without the mozzarella, and would've been only improved by the simple chopping of the herbs.
MAIN COURSE
I came out of the first course feeling extremely enthusiastic about the main course. After all, if all of the appetizers were stunning and lovely, how could the main course not be? But lord, have mercy...
My dinner was simple. Seared duck breast, sliced thinly and sat atop a simple arugula salad, accented with toasted focattia, slices of grilled peach, and cherry halves (a requiem of the bruschetta; these fruits are what's in season). Wonderful, except for one fatal flaw; the duck was rare. The skin was crisp, yes, and I know duck is a red meat, but...it was rare enough to be quacking. I am not bothered by this psychologically, but texture-wise...eugh. Chewy, gross, and because the inside is essentially uncooked, cold. Additionally, only the skin was seasoned, and in a very limited fashion, at that, so what would happen with each bite was much like the problem with using herb leaves as seasoning; I'd finish and swallow all the good stuff first (skin), then be left with the worst part last. This is where the wine comes in; I know that red wine and red meat are best buddies (if you don't know why, why are you even reading this?), so in a moment of brilliance I simply requested that the waiter give me whatever red wine suits the duck best. He gave me Pinot Noir. This, along with cutting the duck extra small and seasoning it further, saved the meal more or less, though I will not be ordering it again.
My dining partner's meal, the grill mix, was done much better in every conceivable way. I'm really, truly confounded as to how they can cook a lamb rib right but not duck breast. I tried every aspect of the meal except for the bacon, and the only complaint I had was that they oversalted the quail.
DESSERT
I ordered the affogato because none of the other desserts appealed to me (I was under the impression they'd have key lime pie, they did not) and the caffeine sounded nice. If you've never had this, simply make some espresso and pour it over a scoop of vanilla (ideally French vanilla) ice cream or gelato while it's still hot. Eventually, the whole thing melts into a tasty slurry of coffee and vanilla. You can also do what my mother used to do, and put a scoop of the same into a cup of regular coffee.
My only complaint is that the coffee was too sour; I really don't like sour coffee.
CONCLUSION
In my experience, a lot of restaurants do an amazing job with appetizers, but fumble when it comes to the main course. Black Angus and Lazy Dog both come to mind. I am not sure why this happens, but I will eventually return to Waterboy and give them another chance. After all, the apps were mind-blowing, and the only major issue (unrelated to my personal preferences) was the duck, which may very well have been an issue due to my muscle weakness making it difficult for me to chew. I often struggle with meats others don't consider to be tough, and this may have been the case. Also, their scallop and pork belly platter is calling my name.

Simplicity on a Plate: The Culinary Revolution You Never Saw Coming
The Zen of Zesting: Minimalist Cooking's Unexpected Rise
In a world where culinary extravagance often reigns supreme, a quiet revolution is simmering on the back burner. Welcome to the counterintuitive realm of minimalist cooking, where less isn't just more—it's a whole new flavor dimension.
Stripping Down to Culinary Enlightenment
Picture this: You're at a Michelin-starred restaurant, eagerly anticipating a gastronomic adventure. The waiter approaches with great ceremony and places before you... a single, perfect tomato slice. You might think you've been punked, but congratulations! You've just encountered the zenith of minimalist cuisine.
This culinary philosophy is turning the notion of "fancy food" on its head faster than you can say "deconstructed dessert." It's like Marie Kondo swept through the kitchen, asking each ingredient, "Does this spark joy?" and tossing out anything that didn't make the cut.
The Paradox of Simplicity
Now, you might be thinking, "How hard can it be to cook with fewer ingredients?" Well, my culinary comrades, therein lies the delicious irony. Minimalist cooking is simultaneously the easiest and most challenging approach to food. It's like trying to write a haiku about quantum physics—every element must carry its weight.
Consider the humble Caprese salad. Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil, salt. That's it. No foam, no fusion, no fuss. Yet, in its simplicity lies its genius. Each ingredient must be impeccable, each proportion perfect. It's a high-wire act of flavor, with no safety net of fancy sauces or elaborate plating to hide behind.
From Farm to Table (With Very Few Stops in Between)
Leading this charge back to basics are chefs who seem to have taken a vow of culinary simplicity. Alice Waters, the high priestess of farm-to-table cooking, has been preaching this gospel for decades. Her restaurant, Chez Panisse, is like a monastery dedicated to the worship of perfect produce.
Then there's Dan Barber, whose Blue Hill restaurants are so committed to local sourcing that diners half expect to see a cow grazing in the dining room. These chefs aren't just cooking; they're philosophers with frying pans, challenging us to rethink our relationship with food.
The Home Cook's Hero Journey
But fear not, dear reader! This minimalist movement isn't just for the culinary elite. It's democratizing cooking faster than you can say "avocado toast." Home cooks everywhere are discovering the joy of simplicity, realizing that they don't need a degree from Le Cordon Bleu to create something magnificent.
Imagine, if you will, a world where dinner isn't a nightly battle against an army of ingredients and a mountain of dirty dishes. A world where a perfectly cooked piece of fish, a squeeze of lemon, and a drizzle of olive oil is not just a meal, but a revelation.
The Minimalist's Toolkit: Less is More (Except When It's Less)
Now, let's address the elephant in the room (or should I say, the unnecessary garlic press in the drawer?). Minimalist cooking doesn't just simplify ingredients; it streamlines the entire process. Your kitchen doesn't need to look like a Williams-Sonoma catalog threw up in it.
All you really need is a good knife, a cutting board, and a pan or two. It's like the capsule wardrobe of cooking—versatile, efficient, and impossibly chic. Who knew that culinary minimalism would make you feel like a kitchen ninja?
The Flavor Paradox: When Subtraction Leads to Multiplication
Here's where things get really mind-bending. By removing ingredients, you're actually adding flavor. It's the culinary equivalent of a sensory deprivation tank—when you take away the noise, you start to hear things you never noticed before.
That tomato in your Caprese salad? Without a cacophony of other flavors fighting for attention, you suddenly realize it tastes like sunshine and summer and everything good in the world. It's like your taste buds have been to therapy and are finally living their best lives.
The Minimalist Manifesto: A Call to Arms (and Palates)
So, dear eaters and cooks, I challenge you. Next time you're in the kitchen, channel your inner minimalist. Ask yourself, "Do I really need to add that seventh spice to my curry? Is that truffle oil really necessary, or am I just showing off?"
Remember, in the world of minimalist cooking, every ingredient is a star. There are no bit players, no extras. It's like the Avengers of the culinary world, but instead of superheroes, you've got super-ingredients.
In conclusion, minimalist cooking isn't just a trend; it's a revolution. It's challenging our perceptions, simplifying our lives, and reminding us that sometimes, the most profound experiences come in the simplest packages. So go forth, brave culinary warriors, and remember: in the kitchen, as in life, less truly can be more. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with a perfectly ripe peach and absolutely nothing else.

Sonoma’s Citizen-Extraordinaire and local Goodwill Ambassador
Honorary mayor and Sonoma’s own goodwill ambassador, Patrick Garcia was out on the town during the Labor Day weekend enjoying ice cream at Sweet Scoops Home Made Ice Cream on the plaza.
Encouraging visitors to stop in and have “the best ice cream in town,” he said to passersby. Sweet Scoops is one of the favorite places in town he likes to frequent, along with the Basque Boulangerie and the legendary Swiss Hotel among others.
Garcia has been an important influence and presence in Sonoma, especially as “alcalde honorario” an accolade he humbly treasures with honor.
As the line to get ice cream at Sweet Scoops that Saturday evening continued down the block of First Street, East, Garcia was pleased to to have conversation with a family from San Francisco.
The family’s last name was Anza. And, as Garcia explained his family roots are related to the man Juan Bautista de Anza, who is among the early explorers and settlers to California when it was part of Spain.
Eventually, after 300 years, California would be part of Mexico and then more than 50 years later, California was acquired as part the United States in 1848.
In someways, Garcia is a link to Sonoma’s founder, Mariano Vallejo.
Vallejo connected California’s Spanish-Mexican heritage and past to its future establishment as a state of the United States.
Regardless of the controversies surrounding Vallejo cited by some historians, it is agreed that Vallejo had a major impact in maintaining a sense of balance between the three countries and was a diplomat.
As California grew in population, attracting people from all over the world, Vallejo’s presence was basically in effect, a bridge. Vallejo was a “significant figure” as noted by established historians such as professor Citlali Sosa-Riddell, PhD of the University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI).
“Vallejo explained his desire to avoid further warfare or animosity between the Californios and the, Americans…” she wrote in her dissertation for the University of California, Los Angeles in 2020.
Garcia is very proud of the uniqueness of California and the fact that it’s history runs through his veins. “I was told about my Spanish-Mexican heritage and ancestors,” he said. “But I always thought of myself as an American,” he exclaimed to the Anza family waiting in line.
Wearing his veteran’s cap, Garcia mentioned that he served in the U.S. military. As he once wrote about his military service experience in an essay for the Sonoma Valley Sun back in 2016.
“It was not uncommon for other Latinos to look at my name-tag and start speaking Spanish to me. They expected that I spoke Spanish with a name like Garcia. I was proud of my last name but embarrassed that I could not speak Spanish. I made a promise to myself that I would change that as soon as I got out of the military.”
Garcia kept that promise as he used his GI Bill military benefits to go back to school and study abroad both in Spain and then in Mexico.
“I returned to California to complete my studies, in 1971. I chose a new college in Sonoma County called Sonoma State University. I was by then fluent in Spanish,” he noted. “I also knew that I would never forget the wonderful cultural and historical knowledge the people in Mexico taught me on a daily basis.”
The Anza family from San Francisco were pleased to listen to Garcia and that their family name had such a strong connection with the history of California.
As the line along the sidewalk moved closer to a much anticipated frozen treat from Sweet Scoops, the family still wanted to hear more.
“Now in my retirement years,” said Garcia, I have a deep love for my two countries, and a passion to share how we have drawn closer as blending nations over the last 250 years.”
Since his honorary “alcalde” in 2016, Garcia has continued to be a citizen of Sonoma “extraordinaire.”
Among the many things he has done, Garcia served as chairperson of the Sonoma-Patzcuaro Sister Cities Committee.
In that capacity, Garcia was able to spearhead the successful transfer of a retired Sonoma city fire truck to a community in need in Mexico.
In addition to upholding his family in esteem, including his son musician, Diego Garcia, he believes strongly in community service. Civic duty and community service is essential as Garcia told the Sonoma Sister Cities Association back in 2016, “I can be your mentor.” “But you can also be my mentor.”
Garcia told the family in line as well as the other visitors all eagerly awaiting a scoop of ice cream, “I have been very blessed and I am so grateful to be a part of Sonoma.”

speaking of basic math —
jensen @ the nashcon j2 panel: “looking forward to the holidays, got some fun holiday plans. uhm, we’re gonna go see some friends, got some family coming over to visit.”
jensen @ the rc gig: mentions his wife and kids are on the west coast
jensen and danneel: spotted in sonoma, california
— now with all that why is it so outlandish that misha could be one of those friends he mentioned going to see? especially when their holidays plans clearly include being in california? do people think since they were seen in sonoma that means that can’t leave the area?? lmao
this isn’t like last year in colorado when they were at their own house. they’re vacationing, that usually involves moving around and visiting different places.
Because someone was 2 years behind on the info and didn't realize misha had a rental property in central valley and just wanted to argue cuz they thought they could, that's why.
Well that, and it chaps some people's asses that Jared's all the way on another fucking continent while Jenneel are putzing around one distracting kid movie in the backseat drive away from a Misha locale.
So yeah. They're Seeing Friends, That Have Some Family Coming To Visit. Notice, you can't even pin that on it being *his* family coming to visit, or his family in the classical sense.
Almost like--wait for it--exactly like I said, Jensen, Misha, and Vicki are all about 2 hours and some change apart right now, and they're taking the chance to do some tourism before centralizing on a meeting location.
Which, unfortunately for this fandom, is probably going to be at that property they were all oblivious to when they tried to argue, since it's basically the center point for both.
Almost like, wait for it, it's like I said, and the kids miss their old friends, and everyone's having the chance at a holiday together, divorces be damned, living circumstances be damned, and all else.

Paving companies in concord reasons why you should contact asphalt and pavement contractor
Road asphalt is a national commodity, present in every municipality and state. Paving stone is widely used for roads, parking lots, and driveways throughout the United States. Bay Cities Asphalt, Inc. is your top-choice, when it comes to paving companies in Concord, as well as in Solano County, Contra Costa County, Sonoma County, Santa Clara, and beyond!
If you’re considering paving projects in the upcoming years, it’s essential to stay informed about industry trends and best practices. According to recent statistics from the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), asphalt remains the most sustainable and durable material for paving applications, offering longevity and cost-effectiveness. With advancements in technology and materials, paving companies are equipped to handle projects with efficiency. This ensures excellent results for clients.
Cost Savings & Durability: Paving Companies in Concord Asphalt contractors, or “paver contractors,” employ this material for various reasons, the most important of which is cost. Contractors may save money using asphalt since it is manufactured using less energy and can be created from recyclable resources. In addition to saving money, asphalt pavement has other advantages for municipalities and governments.
Asphalt is a long-lasting material that can withstand foot and car traffic wear and tear. Those conditions make it an ideal option for paving driveways and installing new sidewalks at homes and businesses. Is fixing up your parking area on your list of priorities? In such a case, be sure to choose a reliable professional. For the reasons listed below, it is recommended that you seek the services of an asphalt and pavement contractor.
They Have The Experience and Expertise To Do The Job Right The knowledge and skill sets of paving companies in Concord are invaluable and should be used. Since asphalt is so complicated, this is beneficial information to have. A wide variety of variables to consider, including density per square inch, thickness, color, texture, and sealants.
Your paving project’s success or failure depends on these aspects. Because of this, you must choose a reliable company to have confidence that these concerns will be addressed adequately. If you choose a reliable firm, you won’t have to worry about any of these issues. They will know how to complete the project successfully.
Contacting a local asphalt and pavement contractor is also good because they can help you suggesting less expensive options. Like recycling asphalt. Which is one option when it’s time to resurface your driveway or any area of your property.
Choosing the Right Type of Paving Material Paving projects include more than just placing a layer of asphalt on a driveway or another surface. These type of projects also include a variety of additional steps. Working with paving materials comes with its unique set of benefits and drawbacks. That’s why you must locate a company knowledgeable about the topic before you take their advice on which kind of paver to use.
When constructing a new driveway or parking lot, you will have various alternatives available. You will need to decide on the kind of materials to utilize. In some instances, making such decision may be an issue of the cost compared to durability or beauty.
For instance, if you need to lay down a layer of concrete to sustain high traffic, your asphalt and pavement contractor will know what aspects to examine before suggesting this material over one that wouldn’t hold up so well under comparable conditions and will be able to make a recommendation accordingly.
They Get the Job Done Quickly & Efficiently They have everything necessary to do the work fast and effectively. This is crucial for any company since keeping consumers waiting for equipment promised on time may lead to lost revenue and unhappy clients.
Hiring an asphalt and pavement contractor or organization that can guarantee timely deliveries is crucial, and you should seek this trait in any potential hires. In addition, this method guarantees that the task will be finished on schedule. The time required to do such labor would be too great without such aids, even if you were determined to accomplish it independently.
Contractors specializing in asphalt and pavement are also well-versed in the regulations that govern their field in any given area. They are familiar with the processes involved in obtaining necessary permits before commencing construction. If you hire one instead of trying to do it yourself, you won’t have to worry about breaking any laws.
Paving Companies in Concord Within Your Budget Getting caught up in seeking the lowest price for the job when you need work done around the house is easy. As a result, you should not rush into anything before making sure you’re obtaining the best possible price.
When you need to engage a contractor, the next step is to get an estimate of how much it will cost. The firm you choose to work with is one of several variables that might affect the final price tag of your project. Paving companies in Concord have a long-standing reputation for being forthright and honest about all the expenses involved with their work.
This implies that they will always give you an estimate of how long the job will take and a price range within which they feel confident. This data is crucial since it reveals the structure of your timetable for the remainder of the year.
People often call a Bay Cities Asphalt contractor when they need to have something fixed. Maybe the parking lot needs repair, or you have a hole in your driveway, or the asphalt is starting to crack. Sometimes you need new asphalt because a pipe bursts and damages the pavement. Whatever the case, there are plenty of reasons you’ll want to contact a Bay Cities Asphalt today.
