Veydra LLC, maker of the Veydra Mini Prime manual-focus cinema lenses for Micro Four Thirds, Sony E-Mount and Fujifilm X-Mount cameras, is no more.
Veydra’s Ryan Avery recently announced the company’s demise on its Facebook page, bringing to an abrupt end the story of this doughty little lens maker, throwing into confusion affordable native geared cinema prime lens choices for independent moviemakers.
With its mission statement being “Veydra lenses are designed to be premium quality cinema lenses at the absolute minimum retail price”, Veydra gave thousands the opportunity of using cinema lenses instead of the more common stills-oriented  non-cinema zoom and prime lenses we have come to rely upon despite their shortcomings for video use.
Tumblr media
Veydra 50mm and 25mm Mini Prime Cinema manual focus lenses with imperial or metric markings, made by Veydra LLC.
Veydra LLC has gone out of business due to the conclusion of ongoing litigation between the founders of the company.
I offer special thanks to everyone involved in the success of Veydra; first and foremost all Veydra Kickstarter backers and customers. Specific thanks to those who made it possible from the start; Phil Holland, Illya Friedman, Matthew Duclos, Joshua Brown, Alex Jacobs, and all the supporters too numerous to mention here.
It’s been a wonderful journey and I thank you all for your support and kindness.
—Ryan Avery Co-Founder
Social media rumours have it that there was some conflict at Veydra about one partner licensing his lens designs out to another company, Meike, but another factor leading to Veydra’s end may have been the theft of US$200,000 worth of lenses from the company’s warehouse in 2017, after which the company seemed to drop off the radar.
There are cinema prime lens alternatives, however, with SLR Magic releasing an intriguing set of lenses for Super 16 and Super 35  digital cameras in M43, E-Mount and X-Mount.
Another option is Fujifilm’s impressive MKX cinema zoom lenses available in two focal length ranges and now in the same there mounts.
Should Fujifilm continue delivering on its promise to radically improve video functionality on its XF APS-C Super 35 cameras,  SLR Magic’s seven lens collection appears attractive with the lenses’ 18mm, 22.5mm, 27mm, 37.5mm, 52.5mm and 112.5mm equivalence in the 35mm sensor format.
So far Meike has only released three cinema prime lenses and not in all three mounts, in 12mm, 16mm and 25mm focal lengths, so time will tell whether the company is fully committed to supplying a full set of primes in three mounts.

The best camera for creatives
Tumblr media
When it comes to picking the best camera, there are few things to consider. Key questions you should ask yourself before buying include: will the camera be used purely for photography and video? Do you want it to be portable and light for travel, or more sturdy for all weathers? Should you get fixed lens or not? And last but not least, how much do you want (and need) to spend on it?
Buying a great camera doesn't have to be all about work, either. Photography is fun, and as a creative, you've already got a good visual brain. You may already be an avid Instagrammer thanks to the camera on your phone. And, while the best camera phones are undeniably getting better and better all the time, having a good camera set aside for photography still boast a number of advantages. Photography cameras are better in low light, have more resolution for printing at various sizes, can be more compatible with accessories like flashguns, and offer a greater selection of lenses.
Lenses with interchangeable lenses come in two sorts, using the traditional DSLR design or the more modern mirrorless type. Basic DSLRs are less expensive – and budget mirrorless cameras are smaller and more portable. Both types are available at a wide range of prices, and can be capable of pro results. The video capabilities tend to be better with mirrorless models – and lenses tend to be cheaper for DSLR systems.
aIf you don't need the ability to swap lenses, then the alternative to buy a compact camera or action camera and have a more portable photographic solution to your picture-taking needs click here
Jump to what to consider when buying a camera
The best camera for creatives overall Our pick for the best camera overall is the Fujifilm X-T200, the reason being it’s a mirrorless camera for everyone, with fantastic image quality, top-notch 4K video and access to the terrific range of X-mount lenses. It's a photography camera that has fantastic video and can be picked up by the novice user, while offering enough depth for the keen learner and the enthusiast.
And speaking of video, if that's your thing, our best 4K camera is the Panasonic Lumix GH5, with its impressive breadth of movie-making features. It's by no means the only good 4K camera on our list though, so read through to see the options available.
Fujifilm X-T200 As a creative you're likely not only looking for a good camera that takes great images, but also one that doesn't break your bank account. We reckon that Fujifilm has come up with a fantastic answer in the form of the X-T200, a sophisticated mirrorless camera that comes at a pretty reasonable price, especially for what you get.
Its traditional, dial-based handling makes it a genuine pleasure to use, and unlike many entry-level models, it comes equipped with an electronic viewfinder, making it a great option for those who like to compose images at eye level. The LCD screen is also a great option however, a generously sized 3.5-inch example that can flip around 180 degrees if needed. Images produced by the camera look fantastic, with those trademark Fujifilm rich colours, and the X-T200 can also shoot great-looking 4K video.
Having access to the amazing range of X-mount lenses is a terrific bonus as well, further solidifying this photography camera as a fantastic choice for creatives of all stripes. It's not the most sophisticated Fujifilm camera, but for the price, this 2020 model gives you a fantastic level of functionality and depth of creativity that will reward any user who puts in the time to learn the camera and get better at shooting with it.
Nikon D850
The Nikon D850 is still top dog in the DSLR world, and unchallenged by Canon when you consider just how many things it gets right. Normally such cameras are intended to excel in one area, such as speed or resolution, but the D850 delivers in all of them. Its 45.7MP sensor produces richly detailed images, particularly as it lacks an anti-aliasing filter, while 7fps burst shooting can be boosted to 9fps with an optional grip and battery. The 153-point AF system, meanwhile, is still Nikon’s most comprehensive iteration. And naturally, 4K video is on board too.
Around its solid core, this camera is ready for unlimited creativity, with time-lapse shooting, slow-motion video output in Full HD, in-camera Raw processing and a raft of other post-capture adjustments all falling to hand. Shooting at night? Many of the camera’s controls light up, and the ISO range stretches to a setting equivalent to 102,400 – a rarity on a camera with such a populated sensor. Need to shoot silently? This is not possible on many other DSLRs, but here you can fire 30fps bursts in complete silence.
Targeted at photography pros – and as at home in the studio as it is in the field – the Nikon D850's body usually comes on its own. But if you don’t already own a lens you’ll be well served by partnering it with the excellent AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR for general use.
Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D Canon has been making really affordable digital SLR cameras for years, and with the EOS Rebel SL3 it has best entry-level DSLR around. Known as the EOS 250D outside North America, the Rebel SL3's design is sophisticated while still being friendly to the novice – boasting the guided Creative Assist mode to help you get to grips with what the camera can do. It’s fully connected, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for super-fast shot transfer and remote control, and it also can now shoot 4K UHD video at 25p, further expanding your creative options.
Another big plus is the Live View functionality – composing and focusing using the rear screen rather than the viewfinder – which has been radically overhauled from the previous model and is now much improved, with whip-fast Dual Pixel autofocus that’s actually much better than the 9-point system offered in the viewfinder. Composing with Live View can be useful in all sorts of creative situations – if for example you’re photographing human subjects, it’s much easier to give directions without a camera pressed up in your face. The Rebel SL3 is also extremely small and light for a DSLR, weighing just 451g, and won’t take up too much space in your bag.
The EOS 250D blends many of the advantages of DSLR cameras with those of mirrorless models, creating a fantastic DSLR that’s suitable for everyone from entry-level users to more advanced shooters – for an excellent price, too.
You can grab it as a body-only option, although most people just getting started will no doubt want to spend a shade more to pair it with the EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even opt for a kit with the all-encompassing EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM instead, and if you fancy something similar but with a bit more powerful, take a look at the Canon EOS 90D, which has a more solid construction and better-suited to experienced photographers.
Panasonic Lumix GH5 It’s difficult to know where to start with the Panasonic GH5; it's such a good camera that there’s a lot to pique the videographer’s interest. 4K footage can be recorded in both DCI 4K and UHD 4K flavours without the heavy crop factors that plague other 4K models, and this is captured in high-quality 10-bit 4:2:2 (internally). You can also use focus peaking to get focus bitingly sharp, call on an anamorphic shooting option, capture at high speeds for slow-motion output and opt for a (paid-for) log option. Video aside, there’s plenty more to love, from the excellent 3.6 million dot viewfinder and articulating LCD through to 9fps shooting and 225 AF points, all inside a sturdy, weather-sealed body.
Not quite what you need? The newer Panasonic GH5S variant opts for a 10.2MP sensor for better dynamic range and low-light performance, but misses out on sensor-based image stabilisation and is more of a video-only option.
Nikon Z50 Number 6 in our list is the Nikon Z50. After Nikon joined the Great Full-Frame Rush of 2018, where it felt like practically all the major manufacturers were unveiling new full-frame mirrorless systems, photographers everywhere were keen to know where they'd go next. The Z6 and Z7 were and are excellent – and expensive – cameras. What next?
The answer: the exceptional Z50. An APS-C model, the Z50 is no mere slimmed-down version of its flagship siblings, but is an excellent mirrorless camera in its own right. Its physical handling is simply superb, with a chunky grip that makes the camera easy to operate one-handed. On the inside too it's just as sophisticated, with a gorgeous sensor and sophisticated autofocus, and what's more it comes at a price specifically tailored to undercut its close competition like the Fujifilm X-T30. What's more, thanks to the FTZ mount adapter, users can also enjoy the incredible legacy of Nikon F-mount lenses. Shooting as fast as professional DSLRs, the Nikon Z50 isn't just a good camera – it represents amazing value and a truly sublime shooting experience for any creative. Look out for the twin-lens Z50 kit, which is a superbly-priced bundle. Sony Alpha A7 III
Just as Nikon’s D850 quickly became the DSLR that everyone wanted to switch to, Sony’s A7 III has mirrorless users saving up their pennies. While many models have their specific focus and target audience, the A7 III really is a camera for all click here A 24MP full-frame sensor, hybrid AF system that covers a staggering 93 per cent of the frame and 4K video from oversampled footage are just a sliver of the highlights. Sony has focused on the details too, installing the useful AF joystick that found fans on previous models, and boosting battery life to a very respectable 710 frames.

LETS TALK CAMERAS
I remember my first video production class, I was super excited I got to learn some camera features, their functions and basically how to operate a camera. I see why photographers are in love with their craft.
After class I started thinking about how and when I would get my own camera so that I can get to explore more and create beautiful memories. As a newbie, I got confused on how to even begin my search, there are several factors to be considered here ( type of camera, budget, lenses, film size and so on).
After several searches, Thankfully, I found a middle ground between frustratingly limited cameras and the ones that cost more than a semester of classes. So I decided to share :)
Nikon D5600
The Nikon D5600 is a beginner-friendly DSLR that you can pick up on Amazon from €545.48. While you may not find all the bells and whistles of a pricier camera, it still has everything students need to learn photography including manual exposure mode and RAW shooting. The 24-megapixel APS-C crop sensor produces excellent images for the price point.
Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III
The large 1.0-inch sensor delivers excellent levels of detail, with the broad and fast range of the zoom lens making it a versatile travelling companion. This camera can be gotten on Amazon from €444. There's also a built-in pop-up view finder and a tilting screen (though its not touch-sensitive). Take into account the sleek, premium finish and it all adds up to a great compact camera at a great price.
Type: Compact | Sensor: 1-inch, 20.2MP | Lens: 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 | Screen: 3-inch tilt-angle, 1,229K dots | Viewfinder: EVF | Continuous shooting: 10fps | Movies: 4K | User level: Beginner/intermediate
Nikon's D3400
This camera includes a newly developed APS-C sensor (though still with 24MP) and an even better battery life of 1,550 frames per charge, next to the D3400's very capable 1,200 shots per charge. This camera can be gotten from €372.45 on Amazon. You also get a better grip and a slightly redesigned body that's a bit lighter too. The D3400 is still around and remains an excellent first-time buy.
Canon EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D
If you're on a tight budget and you can still find it, the EOS Rebel T6 (known as the EOS 1300D outside the US) is a fine option if you're just getting started. This camera can be gotten from €488 on Amazon. But we reckon you save you pennies and opt for the newer, slightly pricier but much better EOS Rebel SL2, also known as the EOS 200D. It gives you plenty more room to grow into as you get more confident, with the advantage of a 24MP sensor instead of a 18MP one, a wider ISO range, faster burst shooting, a flip-out LCD touchscreen and Canon's excellent Dual Pixel CMOS AF system for smooth focusing in video and live view. Video specs are stronger and it feels much nicer in the hands.
Type: DSLR | Sensor: APS-C CMOS, 24.2MP | Lens mount: Canon EF-S | Screen: 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen, 1,040,000K dots | Viewfinder: Yes, optical | Continuous shooting: 5fps | Movies: 1080p | User level: Beginner
Sony Alpha A6000
This camera can be gotten from €199 on Amazon. Don’t let the price fool you. The A6000 costs the same as other entry-level DSLR and mirrorless cameras, but it’s an advanced and powerful camera that has only dropped to this price through being on the market since 2014. So it may be old, but most of the specification still looks pretty fresh today. This includes a 24MP sensor, a fast hybrid 179-point autofocus system and continuous shooting at 11 frames per second (fps). Its age shows in other areas, though; it only shoots 1080p Full HD video and not 4K, and the screen isn’t touch sensitive. And while it’s cheap enough, the A6000’s high-end features make it a little advanced for beginners.

Top Features of Sony Alpha A7iii for Photographers
Sony Alpha A7 III Mirrorless Digital Camera is the next new model in the Sony full-frame series. It is incredible and best suited for photographing weddings, newborn babies, and families at home or outdoors.
Technically, the Sony Alpha A7 III Mirrorless Digital Camera is a 35mm full-frame compact system camera found to be the cheapest and best model. It has a 24.3-megapixel back-illuminated full-frame sensor with an optical low-pass filter, expanded dynamic range of 15 stops at low sensitivity settings, and many other specifications, which include:
Dust/moisture-resistant magnesium alloy body
BIONZ X processor
ISO range of 50-102400
Hybrid autofocus system with 693-point phase detections points and 425 contrast-detection points
Eye AF in both AF-S and AF-C modes
10fps burst shooting with full AF/AE tracking
XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with 2.36m-dot resolution and 0.78x magnification
Tiltable 3.0" 922k-dot rear LCD touchscreen
NFC, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth connectivity
UHD 4K movie recording with XAVC S and S-Log2/3 support &
Greatly improved battery life
Speaking of exterior design, the Sony A7 iii mirrorless camera doesn’t deviate much from the previous A7 II model and other top models currently in the range. The aluminum-bodied camera is quite small and slender overall, measuring 26.9mm x 95.6mm x 73.7mm, and weighing 650g without a battery, lens, and memory card fitting.
Besides, the new Alpha A7 III camera has some fantastic features that help you photograph better and with sharper results.
Auto Eye-Focus
The auto-eye focus on the Sony A7iii camera provides great emphasis on the subject’s eyes. The AEL button on the back is programmed for auto-eye, and the AF button provides a clear focus when you don’t want to focus on the eye. The auto-eye focus tracks the eye continuously even the subject keeps moving. This lets you improve your provision of in-focus images significantly.
Electronic View Finder
The A7 mirrorless camera comes equipped with an Electronic View Finder that helps you show the settings in action. So, if you’re overexposed or underexposed, you’ll see it before even checking your light meter or taking a picture. It’s really amazing when you get to see the final image with the settings applied before hitting the shutter. This feature of the Sony A7 also helps you capture images and work faster without ever needing to stop and check your pictures.
Noise-Free
The A7 mirrorless camera provides you with the option of setting to silent mode. Once set to silent, it’s completely silent- you can’t hear anything! This is great when working with babies or capturing something without letting the object know. The silent mode is also an excellent feature for birth and wedding photographers.
Low Light Skills
The Sony Alpha A7 iii is absolutely great in low light with an in-body 5-axis image stabilization system. It helps prevent unwanted camera shake at low light and lets you comfortably shoot at over 6000 ISO. This feature is reassuring for photographers who prefer to capture in natural light as they never know what type of light situation they are walking into when showing up at a location.
It is outstanding for its automatic pitch and yaw movement correction, horizontal shift, vertical shift, and rotary motion for movies and still images. It works great while you shoot in a dark location or on a rainy day.
Recall Custom Hold
The Recall Custom Hold feature allows you to program specific settings to a custom button on the camera (shoot mode, shutter speed, aperture, ISO drive mode, focus mode, etc.) Once set up, you can always revert to those settings with just a click of the button.
For example, you can set the C3 button to Shutter Speed 500 and fast continuous shooting when you get to shoot for families or weddings. So, if you’re shooting a slower shutter with the drive mode set to a single shot and want to capture some amazing moments, you don’t need to change those settings manually. Just hit the pre-programmed button on your camera and continue to shoot. How amazing it is!
The Sony Alpha A7iii Mirrorless Camera is also easy to hold and can last for a full day’s shoot with one battery. It produces images of outstanding quality, and its various picture effects quickly produce extraordinary images, which would otherwise require you to spend a lot of time in the digital room.
And, it doesn’t end here! There are still many features and advantages that the Sony Alpha A7 Mirrorless Camera provides. Visit our page for more information regarding the camera or contact us to buy this most-selling model.

All About Sony a7 II Alpha Mirrorless Digital Camera with FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens
The Sony a7II Alpha Mirrorless Digital Camera has taken Sony line of full-frame cameras to the next level, with features like 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization with 4.5 stops of compensation for pitch, yaw, horizontal shift, vertical shift, and roll. Operation of the 24.3-megapixel series has been streamlined with a redesigned grip, shutter release button, and customizable controls. The a7II also features a moisture- and dust-resistant design with a magnesium alloy body and a more robust lens mount. And, with refined algorithms and better utilization of the BIONZ X image processor, the a7II has an enhanced Fast Hybrid AF system that is about 30% faster than the previous model along with a 5 fps burst rate with continuous autofocus as well as a 40% faster start time.

The 24.3-megapixel sensor enables high resolution images and low light effectiveness with its standard ISO sensitivity range of 100-25600. The BIONZ X image processor offers fast processing and operation speeds and front-end LSI (large-scale integration) improves the early stages of image processing resulting in more natural details and richer tones. And, 16-bit image processing and 14-bit RAW output preserves the detail provided by the sensor.
In addition to highly detailed stills with smooth gradations, the a7II now has access to the high-bit-rate XAVC S format with 60p, 30p, and 24p recording options, all at 50 Mbps. The look of movies can also be adjusted with picture profiles, including the addition of the S-Log2 gamma setting with a dynamic range approximately 1,300% of the standard sRGB spectrum. Timecode and user bit settings are available as well as clean HDMI output for a variety of recording options.
The advanced Sony Multi-Interface Shoe expands compatibility options for flash, microphone, and other accessories and, as an E-mount full-frame camera, the a7II is compatible with all present APS-C E-mount lenses in APS-C crop mode as well as new E-mount full-frame Zeiss and Sony G-series lenses. Lens mount adapters with a tripod mount are also available to use A-mount lenses on E-mount cameras, and an optional dedicated battery grip enables stable extended shooting and vertical orientation stability.
Rounding out the a7II's imaging capabilities, both a 3.0" 1,228.8k-dot tilting LCD monitor and 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder are available for image monitoring and review. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, with support for NFC, is available, too, for instant sharing of imagery from the camera as well as remote camera control from a linked mobile device.
The Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens is a versatile, compact, and lightweight wide-angle to portrait-length zoom lens designed specifically for full-frame E-mount cameras. It is also compatible with APS-C-sized image sensors and will provide a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 42-105mm. In regard to the optical design, three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element help to reduce aberrations and distortions while contributing to notable image sharpness and clarity.
This lens also integrates Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to lessen the appearance of camera shake when working in low-light conditions or with longer focal lengths. Additionally, a dust- and moisture-resistant construction ensures this lens' use in tough environmental conditions.
This mid-range 28-70mm zoom lens covers wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives and is compatible for use on both full-frame and APS-C-sized image sensors; when used on an APS-C-sized sensor, the 35mm-equivalent focal length range will be 42-105mm. Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element help minimize aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range while contributing to high overall clarity. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake to better suit working with longer shutter speeds and telephoto focal lengths.
Dust- and moisture-resistant design provides consistent performance when working in inclement environmental conditions. Seven-blade circular diaphragm provides a smooth out-of-focus quality that is well-suited to shallow depth of field imagery.
