also, knowing now that Spock correctly deduced Pike was accepting his fate to save him from essentially taking Pike’s tragic place in every future (and how that really touched him), his actions in TOS: The Menagerie make even more sense. Pike ended up in that chair despite knowing he could change his fate because he cared about Spock so much. Spock committing mutiny and risking a court martial, jail time, his hard-won reputation in the career of his dreams and his relationship with Kirk to take Pike somewhere where he could enjoy the rest of his life in comfort with the woman he loves has so much more depth and meaning to it. The love and devotion and ride-or-die, to-hell-with-the-consequences energy of Spock’s actions in that episode are so much more powerful now.
