I think it’s not a coincidence that Anya repeated Twilight’s noble goal of making a world where children don’t cry to Billy Squire. The parallels between Twilight and Billy stood out to me. Both were normal people who experienced the loss of their family because of the senseless violence of the state and were led by anger to do unspeakable and irredeemable things. Anya reminded them of what they were truly fighting for.

Anya’s cries made Twilight remembered why he became a spy in the first place. And his words remained in Anya’s mind for her to repeat it back to Billy. Billy wanted to take revenge against the state that murdered his daughter. He thought he was fighting for justice but was this what Biddy truly stood for? Did Biddy wanted her father to take innocent kids hostage in her name? Anya’s word and demeanor reminded Billy of his daughter and this made him realized that he was and still is a father. And in the end, he chose to be Biddy’s father and surrendered.

This brings me back to Twilight. He had a noble goal but after a decade of lying, cheating, manipulating and all the other immoral things he had to do, he got desensitized by everything around him. Anya reminded him of his goal as a spy which was the start of his journey to reclaim himself. I hope that one day, Anya will make Twilight realize that he can choose to be a father instead of just a spy.

Oh man, I can't believe this...

THIS CHAPTER WAS INSANE!!! 😵😵😵

So let's start with something that everyone's been wondering about... Yor wondering where Anya is and why she hasn't come home yet...:

And boy does she find out that something's amiss...!

Then, after a month of waiting, we finally find out Anya's plan to stop the bus from being blown up is...!! And, well...:

ANYA, YOU ABSOLUTE MAD LAD...!! 🤣

But then, she says this:

Which was similar to what Billy's daughter, Biddy, once said to him...! And in turn, it reminded Billy of Biddy...!!

And after a few more back and forths between Anya and Billy (some of which were absolutely silly ☺), we get another flashback about Biddy and the kind of person she was:

"Be a giver, not a taker." "Help each other up, don't hold each other down."

Those words really warmed my heart because Billy was the reason why Biddy was the way she was...! 💗

And so, Billy decided to give up...

But the bus driver, Vadim, wasn't going down without a fight... So he started driving the bus, tried to get away, eventually crashed it, and TOOK ANYA AS A HOSTAGE!! 😱 (Which was actually something that I thought Billy was gonna do originally, but I digress...!)

But then...:

MARTHA SAVED THE DAY!!! 😆 SHE WAS THE TRUE MVP THIS CHAPTER...!!! 👏😁

(But, I would also give the MVP honor to Mr. Henderson for jumping in the way of the gun pointed at Anya...!! 😎)

And so, The Red Circus was finally stopped... But what's gonna happen now...? 🤔

And that was Mission 74, a great chapter to start off this year's Spy X Family content!! 😄 I don't know if everyone will be pleased by the out come of this chapter, but I really enjoyed it and that's what really matters to me at least...!! 😊

I honestly have no clue what's gonna happen next because Endo is an absolute mad man that loves to pull the rug from under our feet! He is the literal personification of "Never let them know your next move"...!! 👌😎

But, before I go... I just wanted to let y'all know that last week was a pretty rough one for me, hence why I didn't post or reblog anything for a whole week... Everything's a lot better now, but it was still a very scary experience... Maybe one day I'll share what happened, but for now, I'll just leave it at that...

Spy x Family Ch. 74 Spoilers

I could talk a lot about how Billy reminds me a bit of Loid, or how Anya and Biddy are ACTUALLY similar. However I want to just draw everyone’s attention to this

Regarding Spy x Family’s new major villain, either “Billy Squire” was just something Tatsuya Endo came up with, or he really likes 1980s music.

Conspiracy theory: The villain’s name is a deliberate reference to Billy Squier since the singer was famous during the 1980s when the Cold War was nearing its end. And Spy x Family is obviously based on Cold War-era Germany.

i completely understand being relieved that the bus hijacking arc is over, but i disagree with a few posts i’ve seen calling it unnecessarily long. for manga readers it dragged on due to how spread out the time before each chapter was (trust me, i was ready for some change too) but i think that reading it back in one go is far more impactful and cohesive.

in a series called spy x family you expect and emphasis on the FAMILY aspect, so it’s strange to see them not interacting for months on end while the manga updates. however, in keeping with the SPY portion the readers need to be both reminded and informed of the political landscape they’re dealing with.

yuri’s plot seemed a little inconsequential, but it’s supposed to show you that the sss is operating behind the scenes where you might not expect AND that some of its agents disregard their orders to carry out their own version of justice. twilight removing his disguise at the end seems lame when he doesn’t have an emotional reunion with anya, but again we’re seeing that even the readers were unaware of the presence of wise agents AND that sometimes they don’t actually accomplish their intended mission. yor arrived later than the other parents to give anya a moment alone with damian AND to show that she’s strong and fast and dedicated but can’t possibly be there to save anya every time she needs it. billy squire exemplifies the evil that war can push people to AND his genuine desire for a fairer world for the non-wealthy. it’s all about revealing the fight for power that has steadily grown to be more convoluted than westalis vs. ostania.

to focus solely on the family relationships and relegate the political atmosphere to the background does a disservice to the series and to endo’s intended message. yes, family makes unrest and war easier to endure. had twilight’s parents survived he likely would’ve had an easier time emotionally and been less likely to engage in such heightened violence (the same could be said for yor). but that doesn’t eliminate danger, ESPECIALLY the danger that is often hidden from the public eye.

you’re supposed to feel exhausted reading this arc, you’re supposed to want it to be over, you’re supposed to long for an emotionally satisfying ending and feel somewhat let down at the lack of a grand reunion. but that’s their reality. they long for the same thing that you do. they can’t have it. so you have to wait and want and hope for a happy ending to the story right alongside the characters.

Spy X Family chapter 75 Thoughts:

When you thought that we're already winding down for end of a story arc, but Endo said, "Not yet."

I'm glad that Bill Watkins and Becky were also awarded with a Stella for their contributions! They're really now part of Team Anya.

My money is on that this is not the last time we'll ever encounter Billy Squire. Compared to the Doggy Crisis Arc or even the other Red Circus compatriots, it seems that Endo is putting on more focus on him by not only giving him a surname, but also giving him a back story as well as giving him a final shot in this chapter.

Hmmm.. So Becky still has a living mom but for some reason, we haven't even seen not a shadow of her in the past few chapters. I wonder if this has something to do as to why Mr. Blackbell is now the doting, overprotective man that he is right now? I hope we see a Blackbell arc soon.

I wonder though why Anya hadn't heard Twilight when the strike team were closing in? Is it because she's way too focused on Billy's thoughts?

Ahhh Damian, do you really have to say the trigger word ("friends")? Now Anya gets her mind back to her papa's mission and not as an authentic friend of yours!

But I'm seeing a glimmer of hope in Anya and Damian's friendship. But as long as they have their issues, we'll just have to read between the lines.

And Yor being Yor hahahaha! But it shows that Anya doesn't really have nerves of tungsten all the time. When she finally gets hold of her parents, she acts like a normal kid stuck in a nerve wracking situation. (And I think their whole interaction is wholesome).

Lol, looks like there won't be a Twilight-Wise fallout soon like some people have expected. They managed to take hold of Twilight and have him rushing to the scene disguised as one of the strike team. But it is at the cost of his stomach pains (maybe Twilight should see a doctor for that, because it ain't healthy anymore, right?)

And the partially unexpected main star of the show: Melinda Desmond.

My God, Melinda's reaction in the last few panels of the story deserves a whole article in itself.

She's now in the range of "crazy yandere" to "conflicted character". But by the way Endo drew that final scene makes me think that she falls on the crazy side.

This is the first time Anya has mind read Melinda Desmond... Any it just gave us more questions than answers regarding this whole debacle with the Desmonds.

Please let's just have a Yor-Melinda arc next!

I just hope the Forgers just adopt Damian at this time. The poor boy needs some wholesome parent figures at this point.

Thoughts on the Red Circus

Spoilers for Spy x Family Chapter 72!!!

The name "Red Circus" immediately brings about connotations of communism (Red). While Ostania does seem to have some sort of social safety net (chapt. 41), there appears to be a rather vast divide between the rich and the poor, making communism an attractive solution to inequality, matching what Billy Squire said their original purpose was.

They immediately reminded me of the Weather Underground, a leftist cold war era terrorist organization that bombed US government buildings, but worse. Leftist militant had their heyday during the cold war, but largely dissolved by the 90s. A lot of these groups specifically opposed imperialism and fought for social and economic equality, but used violence against both the state and, at times, the people to try and achieve those goals. This fits with what we know of the Red Circus.

The Red Army Faction (RAF) was a West German leftist organization that i believe the Red Circus is heavily based on. The murder of protester and university student Benno Ohnesorg by West German Police sparked the creation of the militant RAF, much like the death Billy Squire's daughter sparked the movement from peaceful to violent state opposition for the Red Circus.

The RAF engaged in political assassinations, bombings, bank robbery, and kidnapping to combat the West German State, which they saw as being sympathetic to, or even a continuation of the Nazi Regime. The SSS in Ostania is a clear reference to the SS and the Nazi, making the Red Circus's opposition to the SSS fall directly in line with the RAF.

Also, as a fun extra, the state sponsored media accuses the Red Circus to be backed by foreign interests and the RAF was discovered to have had Soviet backing.

These thoughts aren't really well organized, but i did finally put that (most of) polisci degree to use, so that's something

should i make more historical/political analysis posts for spy x family? i have a lot of thoughts, but am unsure if there's an audience for it or if i should just continue info dumping to my wife

Hi,recently I got interested on Spy x Family manga. It's real Strong and Funny series. Did you notice something weird in the arc with the hijacked busses? How did Squire know the names of the kids,and the social position of the a',b'..Father? The panels with the stunned kids speaks so. How did he acquire such inside knowledge? Btw are there any hints,or facts,about who won the war between Westalis and Ostania(Twilight lost so many people in there)?

This is a really interesting question. I think Billy and the rest of red circus had planned the bus hijacking very well. They knew which route the bus will take and who are the students on that said bus. I don't think the school made an announcement about the activities to be done outside of Eden given how strict they are and how they always prioritize the safety of the students since most of them are children of VIP's. But no matter how strict their securities, there are still ways for spies and the likes to get info. Twilight, for example, getting the answers for the entrance exam and how he can easily sneaks in and out of the Academy, so I think they had a very good informant or maybe an insider, who sold to them the info about Eden's activities that day and the names of the children and their families standing in Ostania's government.

As for who won the war, it wasn't mentioned in the manga who actually won (maybe I just forgot, feel free to correct me) but there has been hints and it's Westalis? Westalis has a richer economic power and entertainment seems far more developed in Westalis than in Ostania.

There are also people and officials who wants to start a war against Westalis to restores Ostania to it's former glory, while we have Westalis who wants to prevent it at any cost.

Idk, but I also think no one actually won the war. In reality, no one wins a war, everyone loses.

*Manga Spoilers*

The Bus Hijacking arc and the latest chapter portrayed grief from the loss of children in different ways. Billy Squire and Sylvia both lost their daughter due to senseless violence by the state. Parents mourning their kids is just the saddest thing.

The loss of his daughter pushed Billy to fight back against the Ostanian government but he was also used by Red Circus. Meanwhile, Sylvia is still grieving too. She doesn’t see the point in cleaning up her house. The memories of their daughters still lingers.

Both Billy and Sylvia found some peace when interacting with Anya. Billy realized that this isn’t what Biddy fought for and Sylvia is slowing moving forward because she has Aaron now. They’re trying to be better to honour their daughters.

The Forgers aren’t the only ones dealing with the pain and trauma of their pasts, almost every character in the series is affected by the war and the actions of the state. They are all trying to heal from this too.

I was literally SHAKING for almost THE ENTIRE CHAPTER...!! 😱😱😱

And, uh... Here's why... 😰

Picking up at Eden Academy, this chapter begins with Mr. Henderson and some of the other teachers (including Ms. Schlag) being informed that two of the school buses were hijacked and police have already been contacted...!

And of course, none of the parents have been notified... 😓

We see that the students are understandably freaking out about this... But then, my boy Bill tries to calm everyone down! And, well...:

After that, Billy Squire tells the kids that they are valuable hostages because of their parents (obviously) and tells them this:

I really do not like this man...! 😩

Then, we find out that WISE is now aware of the hostage situation:

BUT, YET AGAIN...!! OF COURSE, TWILIGHT HAS NO IDEA THAT THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW...!! 😫

Back on the bus, Anya learns where their headed and devises a plan with Becky...! Damian notices that the two of them are up to something, which leads to probably my favorite scene in this chapter...!! 😖

THIS WAS SO FUNNY TO ME🤣

Damian decides to be the distraction, and when I saw him get grabbed by Billy Squire, I was like: "BILLY SQUIRE..."

Luckily, Damian's distraction worked, and they able to send for help...!! 😆

But then, things...

....went from bad...

....to EVEN WORSE...!!! 😱

"DON'T YOU HURT MY BABY...!!!" 👺

And uh, yeah that was Mission 70...! 😰 I am honestly very nervous about what's going to happen next, even if I'm sure that everything will be alright in the end... 😞

This chapter did not disappoint and I cannot wait for the next one...! 👍 So until the next Mission, I'll see you all later... Bye...! 👋😔

This chapter really stressed me out and this is a representation of my mind after reading it...!:

So let's talk about it...! 👍

This chapter begins with a flashback of Billy Squire and his daughter, Biddy:

And I really liked what Biddy said here:

Her words of being scared to live in a world where you can't criticize what's wrong with it felt very moving to me...

But then on the next page, we see this...:

Seeing Billy look at his daughter's lifeless body actually made me sympathize with him even more, but also... It reminded me of the vision of Twilight dying in a explosion and Anya finding his lifeless body all the way back in the Inusan Crisis Arc... 😓

We then pick back up with Yuri getting the guys with the other bus, and...

MY BOY YURI GETS SHOT...!!! 😱

But, he's alright...! 😉

In fact, this last part with Yuri was probably the only thing that got me laughing in this entire chapter...!

Then, Captain Bug-Eyes from the SSS is put in charge of this hostage situation and what's one of the first things he does...

TELL THEM THAT THEIR COMRADES ARE DEAD...!! Which in turn makes the guy with mustache on Billy's team decides to BLOW UP THE BUS if the SSS and Police tries something...!!!:

And of course, Anya knows about it... So, she thinks of something and gets up from her seat:

Which in turn makes me both worried and curious on how Anya's going to get everyone out of this situation...! 😰

And that was Mission 73...

Man, I tell ya... This was another chapter that made me feel uneasy...

AND IT CAME OUT ON CHRISTMAS...!!! 😫

And now we have to wait a whole month for the next chapter... 😓 But of course, I'm still excited to see what happens next, even if this chapter got me all stressed out...!! 👍
