alien II — p.p.
Tumblr media
word count: 1.4K
warnings: none
Today was one of the days when the world decided that everyone should be ready for the cold. The town was in pure ice and all the students were hooded and wearing their warmer clothes to accommodate themselves and adapt to the sudden cold.
Peter and Ned were talking about which alien movie was the best. They were in a tough debate. The people passing by looked at them with arched eyebrows, maybe even laughing about how they were nerds. But they were and very proud.
"You are joking right? Alien vs Predator is so..." Peter reached into his closet, but before he even opened it, he had the great surprise of finding his closet neighbor, who until today he didn't know who it was.
It was the same girl in the auditorium. The sweetest and most charming voice he's ever heard.
He paused for a few seconds, with Ned talking tirelessly on his back, but he only had eyes for her. He was delighted at how her hair fell in a beautiful cascade down her back. Her bright eyes and a faint smile that seemed to never leave her face. She looked incredible even with a large hooded sweatshirt that barely fit into her body. He watched as her fingers ran through the metal of the closet and the black nails highlighted her skin tone.
Then she closed the closet and turned, leaving a smile open on her face as she saw Peter.
The boy tried to disguise as much as he could, but it was inevitable. He leaned back against the closet, making Ned raise his eyebrow and stared at the scene with a grimace on his face.
"Hey, stranger!" she smiled sweetly as she gripped the strap of her backpack, hung on her right shoulder.
"Hey... Hi." he said stumbling on his own words. "Yeah, this is Ned. Ned this is Y/N." she smiled and waved to Ned, who did the same in a friendly smile.
"Oh, so you're the girl that Peter talks so much about?"
Peter's eyes widened. His body froze suddenly.
"You talked about me?" she asked, laughing completely uncomfortably.
"It's... I, well I mentioned that you sang and... That's it." he got the best excuse, but the truth was completely different.
Ned, she sings so well, I think it's the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
I think Y/N looks great in blue, what do you think?
She is so beautiful, how that's humanly possible?
But he just smiled, trying to ignore the thoughts of the truth that hung in his mind.
"Right..." she agreed with her lips pressed into a thin line.
She made to move away, but Peter didn't want to. He had already embarrassed himself too much in front of her and well, he wanted to get closer, maybe try a friendship and know her better, so the first thing that came into her mind was that.
"Hey, I was talking to Ned earlier and... We're going to do an Alien vs Predator marathon tonight, I was wondering if... Well, if you wanna go... Watch with us?"
"But you didn't just say that..." Ned threatened to say something, but Peter was faster.
"Will be cool."
She looked at Ned and then at Peter. She loved sci-fi movies and loved anything about aliens and in the end, it was a good excuse to get to know Peter better, since she already found him adorable.
"It's all right. Give me your address, I'll take the snacks" she shrugged and smiled in the sweetest way Peter could imagine. "See you guys later?" she asked before turning her heels and leaving.
"Sure..." he said as he watched her disappear into the hallway.
"First, what was that? Second, did you just call a girl to watch a movie you were literally talking shit about it for two minutes?"
"Dude..." Peter narrowed his eyes and then gripped the straps of his backpack, heading straight for the class.
Later, Peter warned May that a friend would appear to watch a movie with him and Ned. She asked a few questions, but was glad the boy was expanding his circle of friends, not that she didn't like Ned, never, she loves him, but was happy to know that he's making friends with other people.
"So, you have the movies, right?" Peter asked as he looked at Ned wearing his spider-man mask, sitting on his bed.
"Yes, they're in the dresser."
"And the drinks?" he asked a little in agony.
"In the refrigerator...?" Ned shook his head in denial. "Dude, calm down, it's just a girl."
"No, she's not just a girl, she's... She's too cool, you know? I don't want to ruin it." Peter ran his hands through his hair and leaned against the wall.
Ned nodded and picked up another cookie in the package.
Suddenly they heard the sound of the door and Peter's eyes widened as he waved for Ned to remove the mask, but in a rush and in the pressure he shuffled around and the mask caught in his face. By the time Y/N entered the room, the scene ahead was hilarious. Peter was pulling the spiderman's mask from Ned's head as he helped with all possible strength. Then the mask simply fell to the ground and the two turned toward the door.
"Hello...?" she asked, laughing at the two of them.
"Ah... Hi, Y/N."
"Hi, Ned. Do you like the spiderman too?" she set the bag with the snacks on top of Peter's dresser and took the mask from the floor.
"Do you like him?" Peter asked a little nervous and afraid that she'd find out everything.
"Seriously, who doesn't? He's incredible." she slipped on the mask and looked at Peter. "How do I look?" she laughed and Ned remained quiet, also sharing the same fear as Peter.
"Good." he laughed and pulled the sleeve of his sweater off as a distraction to contain his nervousness.
"Your costume is a lot resistent than mine." he froze. What do you mean, she had a Spider-Man costume? "I'm joking!" she laughed and Peter laughed too, but only nervously.
"So let's watch it?"
"Of course. I brought chocolates, chips and some candy." she pointed to the bag and Peter nodded.
"I'll get the sodas." Ned got up and left the room.
"I'm going to, uh, put the movie on." he pointed to the dvd player and bent down to put the movie.
"Your aunt is pretty cool, she kind of complimented me about three times in less than two minutes." she smiled and sat on Peter's bed.
"She's nice." he replied and got up after putting the movie on.
She looked at Peter with a smile on her face. Her hands were entwined in her lap and for a few seconds they stared at each other, saying nothing at all, just the two of them looking at each other, until Ned appeared.
They settled on the floor amid pillows and blankets. Ned was near the bed, Peter in the middle and Y/N on the other end. The movie was running and the three of them were paying attention to the movie, well, not so much Peter since he was sweating from being nervous about being around the girl he was kind of have a crush.
The movie was rolling and was already halfway through the second movie. Ned was already sleeping, Peter watched the second film more focused and Y/N paid attention to every detail as if it was the first time she was watching. Suddenly, in a suspenseful scene, she gave a little startjump and the first thing she did was reach for Peter's hand over the blanket. As soon as she realized what she did, she looked at her hand over Peter's and looked at him.
He was nervous and almost shaking. His eyes met Y/N's and he swallowed as he felt the softness of her touch in his hand. She took a deep breath and withdrew her hand, then apologized to Peter. But he wanted to say she didn't need to, he wanted to take some initiative, but all he did was turn back to the screen and finish the movie.
As early as dawn, May opened the door to Peter's bedroom and smiled at the scene in front of him. Ned was literally sprawled across the room with a packet of chips on his side, Peter was asleep sitting while Y/N was leaning her head against the boy's shoulder. They slept like angels and for a second, May felt extremely happy for Peter.
And he was too, because as soon as May closed the door, he looked at the face of the girl who was lying on his shoulder, pulled the blanket to cover it and smiled weakly.

The 11 best things about Virginia Tech’s ‘Enter Sandman’ tradition
Tumblr media
The greatest entrance in all of football?
For every home game, the Hokies come out of the tunnel and onto the field to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” playing and, folks, it is epic. It’s especially so when Virginia Tech has a big home game at night, as is the case against No. 6 Notre Dame on Oct. 6 (8 p.m. ET), and ABC always does an especially great job of airing cool entrances (here was Clemson’s).
The tradition has been around since 2000. After Virginia Tech installed a new scoreboard, the athletics marketing department wanted a new song for the team to come out to. It was between “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses and "Sirius" by the Alan Parsons Project before Metallica’s hit was chosen.
"For me, it was great because of the rhythm of it," Roger Springfield, the producer of the Hokies' original "Enter Sandman" video, told the Washington Post. "The beats in it, the rhythm — for editing purposes, it lent itself well to what we were talking about doing."
1. The crowd in Lane Stadium gets absolutely jacked as soon as it starts.
This on-field video is from 2015’s game against the then-No. 1 Ohio State on Memorial Day night:

Look, if that doesn’t give you chills, I don’t know what will.
2. In 2011, the stadium played it late in a 38-35 victory over Miami.
It’s usually a pregame song, so when it fired up right before a play, the crowd lost its mind.

3. Before that same game’s intro, Metallica itself appeared on the video board.

5. Fans and everyone on the field jump around when the song is played:

This part didn’t start initially with the introduction of “Enter Sandman.” The trend was actually started by Tech’s band:
Before one particularly chilly night game, some of the Virginia Tech marching band members started jumping up and down to keep warm before the team's entrance. Soon, everyone copied.
"The next thing you know the whole band is jumping up and down," David McKee, the director of the Marching Virginians, said via the Washington Post. "And then next thing you know the whole stadium is jumping up and down. It was one of those accidental traditions."
6. In 2007, both Virginia Tech and East Carolina took the field to the song together.
This was one of the most special entrances, being the first after the Virginia Tech massacre in April 2007.
youtube
7. When Frank Beamer retired in 2015, Metallica had a special message for the former Hokies head coach.
youtube
8. Brad Paisley covered the song during a concert in 2015.
The concert was in Blacksburg, so this was a definite must to add to his set list.
youtube
9. Even during neutral-site games, VT fans are lit when the song’s played.
In the first weekend of the season, it was played before the Hokies’ game against Virginia Tech at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. Listen to how dang loud this place gets, and it’s not even Lane Stadium!
youtube
10. On social media, the hashtag #ExitLight is associated with the song and VT football.
The song’s chorus begins with “Exit light, enter night,” so it’s become a fun hashtag to use.

11. A newer tradition: Playing the song at commencement.
Yep, everyone jumps there, too.

youtube
Thanks to the brilliant idea Tech had in 2000, “Enter Sandman” is now a staple of Hokie football. Again from the Washington Post:
The song can often be heard downtown, blasting from passing cars or from inside the bars.
Tim East was then the assistant athletic director of marketing and promotions who oversaw the first "Enter Sandman" video. Asked recently if he could have envisioned the song's popularity, East said, "Not in my wildest imagination."

Jump Start by Esselle

Haikyuu!!
Length: 12,041 (complete)
Rating: Teen & Up Audiences
Pairing: None
Author Summary:
' "You came to see how I'm doing?" Kageyama asks blankly. "Why?"
Daichi shrugs. "Why not? We're both in this scene, right? So I know how it is. You had some rough luck, so from one racer to another… I guess I just wanted to come wish you the best."
"…Oh," Kageyama says, looking no less confused.
In retrospect, Daichi supposes that this is kind of weird. But the nurse had said no one had been up to visit. Where is the kid's crew?
He doesn't pry. Instead, he says, "I'm Sawamura Daichi. It's nice to finally meet you in person." '
--
Daichi visits a racing prodigy in the hospital after an accident and finds, in place of a hardened champion, a bedridden, frustrated boy. Injured and friendless, Kageyama is wary of opening up to anyone. But Daichi, Suga, and Asahi know that crew is family; if Kageyama has neither, they'll try to be both.
