Vivienne is not pro-templar as many would think. She is just using the resources she has in hand in order to work with a system that would rather throw her and the rest of the mages into an inescapable pit. Vivienne does not hate or look down upon other mages as her efforts are clearly to support the mages if she is made Divine. Additionally, her quest was initially supposed to be about collecting phylacteries in order to keep mages safe from templars and mage hunters. on the topic of my nihility!aventurine au, but nihility's connection with losing bits of yourself is so fun. like, memory, taste, fear, i'd argue also hearing, sight, speech, belief, touch/physical sensations, etc.
so in context of nihility!aven, i was contemplating what the best option would be for him to lose— it needs to affect him thematically and in his day to day life, but i still wanted to keep his cultural connections (ie not losing memory or belief) and i realized i was already making connections to the stellaron hunters with his group, so... fear!
it'd be such a fascinating thing for aven to lose because his fear is so interconnected with his belief system. he inadvertently prays every time he takes a risky gamble, and his whole shaking hand thing directly correlates to his fear of this being the last time the gaiathra triclops will close her eyes for him.
so even if aven doesn’t lose his belief in his goddess, by losing his fear he’s losing that ability to pray naturally to her. he doesn’t have a reason to be afraid of losing/afraid his goddess' blessing will be lost because he can’t feel fear. so aven, here, has to want to believe and want to create a synthetic/his own personal relationship to his goddess outside his gambling as a result. i guess his belief would look more ‘traditional’ in a sense as a result— taking time to pray every day, setting up something in his house to remember, recreating cultural practices that he half-remembers, if only to not lose that connection.
