Me when Enderian, *physical took Raes body and just got him home to get the others to help get him back bc she was worried and she knew him being stuck after looking for his own memories and his mind being shadered and she knew it was killing him to be stuck in his own head*

Seeing lottle Rae being scared after he would had saw Fable take Isla *hurt my soul* like- mhmmmmmm

It's also really funny knowing that like- Rae saw all that Fable did then it just scattered the rest of his own memories is such ⏃ cool thing, bc he probably was in ⏃ state of fear and panic of not trusting himself and his own memories and got stuck trying to get it all back in one peace he couldn’t

Gays on skateboards? More likely than you think.

✧  story  ✧

This anime is almost completely character focused so this will be short. We’re introduced to an illegal underground skateboarding come-together called the “S” where skaters could do “beefs” aka races and bet anything... and do anything during the race cause there were no rules. Most of the big skaters here wear outfits and use aliases as they have respectable jobs irl and skating is still looked down upon. This place is run by a mysterious (and hella rich) dude called Adam. The story focuses more around the cast, their races, their relationships and their character progression. Skating is also used in the “Shounen” manner. You know they aren’t ninjas or demon slayers, they’re... skaters. With some flashy and completely impossible skills. The anime starts out *somewhat* normally so seeing someone tapdance on their board while going 20 km/h a few episodes later is something else. My point is, don’t take it seriously. Take it in the fun Shounen way. Unfortunately, the writing does take a small nose-dive in the last few episodes (in my opinion). The end result really doesn’t change much and I honestly haven’t seen the “Power of Friendship” trope used this obviously in a while.

This is the core of the anime really. Reki is our main character who just really likes skating and then he meets a new student from Canada called Langa. Turns out he has been snowboarding back home since he was a fetus and with Reki’s teaching and a new board specifically made for Langa, he becomes insanely good, integrating his snowboarding experience into his skating. We meet the rest of our “found family” gang at the “S” as well. Shadow, Miya, Cherry and Joe. Only other characters of interest are Adam and later someone close to him after we find out his backstory. The most interesting thing about this cast is that everyone here is an insanely good skater, capable of pulling of Shounen like impossible feats while our main Reki... is normal. He doesn’t have any special moves or skills. Nor does he gain any. This isn’t a story of a weak character becoming the hero, it’s a story about an average character accepting the fact that they’re average and still finding a purpose and enjoyment in what they do. 

Something we absolutely must talk about are the ships. I’m not the biggest fan of the fact that the most queer-coded character in the show is the antagonist but the show also veeeeeery obviously baites their other potential ships, that being Joe and Cherry for a lesser extent and Reki and Langa. There are is one other ship that’s pushed very hard but I don’t feel comfortable talking about it. ANYWAY, you can take these friendships for friendships but I cannot stress enough how strong the gay is. When Reki gets down about his lack of skill he starts avoiding Langa and Langa spends the next 3 episodes constantly asking where Reki is. Like, “Reki” is his most commonly used word during these episodes, deadass. Also Lagna realising that he doesn’t feel happy or excited skating unless Reki is there in some form, whether with him or cheering for him is just squeeeee. So cute. Also gay.

Unfortunate side-effect: lack of female characters and the few being there portrayed as evil. Please stop? I’d rather there be 0 female characters if you don’t know what to do with them.

This is BONES we’re talking about so you know you can expect fluid, dynamic and flashy animation. Unfortunately, all races take place on the same course which means their colour pallette is always the same, pair that with them taking place at night with barely any light and you have a pretty bland colour pallette. Scenes taking place elsewhere were very nice though. The character designs are also nice, each one very telling of their personalities.

Funkyyyyy. Honestly I wasn’t paying much attention but all the tracks I do remember were great.

I’m not sure what SK8 is supposed to be. All I know is that 1. I enjoyed it and 2. I now have a new hyperfixation ship so I’m off to read fics BYE.
