Today I Found The “Other” monster. I can not express to you how difficult it has been to bring the writing prompt parties to YouTube over the last couple of months. Due to their size, I knew they’d be a challenge for my one-woman show production team, but my tech has been seriously lagging and its mysteries continued to mount. Every week I move files from my hard drive to an external, fill my trash then empty it. Every week I am adding content, so I get the pressure my tech has been under, but no matter where I looked, I was never able to locate the “Other” files that were sucking up my hard drive’s space. Straight up facts: last night the frustration brought me to tears. I had to leave my house and sit under the moon to just breathe. I emptied files, I trashed projects out of IMovie. I could find no evidence of my podcast or my YouTube anywhere in my Finder. I decided to try to bring Friday’s writing prompt party back into my hard drive as the sole piece of large media to enter my hard drive. With the download I had mere MBs left! No WAY the hard drive would be able to upload it. I was back in IMovie just to see if I could get it in there and I clicked the media library. It was FULL. All the projects were deleted, but NONE OF THE COMPONENTS OF THEM were. All the video files, image files, and audio files from a year and three months of weekly (++) YouTube videos were still being stored, nameless and unsearchable in this library 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I deleted them all. (Don’t worry they ALL ALREADY live on my external hard drive AND YouTube!) My laptop hard drive now has 32+ GIGS of space available and the mysterious “Other” monster has been defeated and decimated. This is all to say that not all the days are easy, that some of the wins are exhausting, and that I am always, always still learning.
