4 au 10 juillet 2022
Monday morning we enjoyed a surprise, brief shower. We are now on water rationing here, so every drop of rain mother nature sends us will keep the plants alive that much longer. The house is so quiet now that Lucien has returned to Paris and that Daniel has left for Spain.
Tumblr media
Quinta meeting Monday evening, which is always nice. Benedict and Natalie are both there, so it was fun to see so many in the same place. Fourth of July greetings came in from friends throughout the day.
Tuesday more scans of left elbow didn’t go as planned. It turns out only a few places can do an MRI so I made an appointment for next week.
Saturday morning I went up and used the blower around the pool area to do a final primping before the big party. I enjoyed and evening at home. I could hear the music and see the strobe lights from the party. I headed up around 23.30. It was all very civilised. There were lots of things I would have done differently had I been the event coordinator; however, all was going very well. I was surprised how few people had a problem navigating the stepping stones and the small shrubs between the dance floor over the pool and the dessert area in the bungalow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn’t get to bed until 05.30, just as the sun was coming up. The croissants were already out so I helped myself to one on the way down the hill. I was up by 10.00 to clean the house and prepare for the barbecue lunch with Ilze and Daniela. They brought a friend and it was a very nice afternoon. Two more pools were brought and we all were in the pools at some point in the afternoon. Ilze was persuaded to barbecue salmon and she did a fabulous job.

So who's eating TSITSIRAVLA in 2021?? See more on my courses at jointheflow.net ...discover my books at bit.ly/elefteria ...and read more about that. The shoots of the tree are used as a vegetable (called tsitsíravla), and are eaten as a pickle.  The fruits are used in Cyprus for baking of a specialty village bread. In Crete, where the plant is called tsikoudia, it is used to flavor the local variety of pomace brandy, also called tsikoudia.  The plant is rich in tannins and resinous substances and was used for its aromatic and medicinal properties in classical Greece. A mild sweet scented gum can be produced from the bark, and galls often found on the plant are used for tanning leather. A triterpene has been extracted from these galls. In Turkey, it is known as menengiç or bıttım. A coffee-like beverage, Kurdish coffee or menengiç kahvesi, is made from the roasted fruit, and a soap is made from the oil.  Terebinth resin was used as a wine preservative in the entire ancient Near East, as proven by many findings in areas such as the foot of the Zagros Mountains. Day 4: Genesis 16-20
I don’t understand how using someone else, be it a relative, friend, or slave, to bear children means those children are born into your own lineage. F’ed up at the least, regarding Hagar and her fate. (Ah the footnotes explain this: ‘a wife could give her maid to her husband and claim the child as her own.’ I guess it’s an earlier, different version of adoption in some way. With more oppression.)
Wonder why they translated terebinth (Pistacia terebinthus) as oak and placed a footnote instead of just terebinth. At some point I’d like to see a terebinth, they look pretty on the pictures.
Is the story of Lot and his daughters a sneer towards the Moabites and Ammonites? Or was it seen as a legitimate way to bear offspring and respectively peoples? (Footnotes only acknowledge the incest.)

Balm of Gilead
Tumblr media
Balm of Gilead is mentioned in the Bible and scholars are not entirely sure what product or plant is being referenced. It may be the Arabian Balsam Tree Commiphora gileadensis, The Turpentine tree or Terebinth Pistacia terebinthus or its close relative, also called Terebinth Pistacia palaestina – or perhaps all three. However, modern North American settlers named the Poplar after the biblical balm when they were introduced to its soothing properties and pleasing scent. So, for modern practitioners, Balm of Gilead is the resin that exudes from the early spring buds of various cottonwood poplar species including balsam poplar, Populus balsamifera/, narrowleaf balsam poplar Populus augustifolia, and cottonwood Populus trichocarpa, which are native to the Northern and Western part of North America.
Balm of Gilead is a sticky red resin that can be used in incense or dissolved into oil for use during ritual. The scent is suitable for all ritual purposes as a general-purpose holy incense, for fumigation for consecration. It is said to draw spirits to its fragrance, so it is a good one to use when you are making offerings or attempting to communicate with the dead or other spirit beings.
Macerating the buds in oil infuses it with its fragrance which can be worn to draw love, rekindle the interest of a lover who is wandering and to help your lover forgive and forget. This oil can also be used as a dressing oil. It is also effective for healing and soothing skin irritations, bruising and swelling.
Balm of Gilead corresponds to the planet Jupiter

terebinth
I am often asked what is a “terebinth” when it appears in a daily reading. It is a small tree – and there the opinions diverge. It is either a Palestinian type of oak or it is a small tree of the cashew family and once a source of turpentine. Its more formal name is pistacia palaestina. It has a Southern European cousin, P. terebinthus. But then again the word might be referring to Quercus…
