Description: On his first combat assignment, Cornett accompanied the Vietnamese Rangers on a search-and-destroy mission near Khe Sang. There he gained entree into a culture that he would ultimately respect greatly and admire deeply. Cornett's most challenging military duty began when he joined the Phoenix Program. As part of AK squad, he dressed in enemy uniform and roamed the deadly Central Highlands, capturing high-ranking VC officers in hot firefights and ambushes. It was there, deep in enemy territory, where the smallest mistake meant sudden death, that the Vietnamese fighting men earned his utmost respect. While offering rare glimpses of an aspect of the war most of the military and media never saw, Cornett tells the full, gut-wrenching story of his Vietnam. He also gives an unsparing view of himself - telling a no-holds-barred story of an American soldier who made sacrifices far beyond the call of duty . . . a soldier who, in defiance of the U.S. government, refused to turn his back on the Vietnamese. From the Paperback edition.
Review: This is a book that is great in some places, less so in others. I was actually tempted to stop reading it part way through because of how the story ends, and there will be spoilers in this review.
This book is a lot about failure, and overcoming failure, and then more and more failure. So much failure. This is a dude who... fails. He also succeeds but where the heart of the story is, well it's in his failures. He manages to end up in the famed Green Berets as a medic and assigned to Project Delta/B-52 but is basically kicked out for being a liability. He ends up in the 101st with their brigade LRRP team where he finds his first home. For those of you who read a lot about the VN war, you'll recognize a lot of the cast of characters in this section, with a majority of the focus being on his relationship with Rey Martinez. He then bounces around a bit, a little time in Germany, some time training medical stuff at replacement centers, and eventually as an Advisor in a few different areas. Throughout all of this he falls in love, fucks up the relationships, gets into a fucked up relationship, does a lot of drugs, gets drunk a lot, gets in trouble a lot, and eventually marries a VN woman who he later drifts apart from even though staying close to his brother in law who he fought with. At one point he tries to kill his XO and is court-martialed for it, but somehow manages to serve his time and rejoin the army for a very long career - totally unheard of but true! The problem with the book is that it is uneven, which keeps it from being a 5 star book... his coverage of certain battles is super finely detailed whereas his court martial and time in jail is barely a wisp of text. He tells more about using drugs and drinking than he does talking about his role as a medic and the training. Overall a good book and fills in some more stories from the 101st and the 302nd RF Co. He does a great job with the other cast of characters, and their stories and it's worth it just for that.

“A watermelon has two colors, green outside and red inside. Green represents the military-backed party, USDB [Union Solidarity and Development Party], or the military uniform color. So, green means military or dictatorship in Myanmar. Red represents democracy. ‘Watermelon’ means government officials who love democracy, support democracy on the inside, but that it is difficult to show to the public because of fear for ourselves and our families. To be a watermelon in an organization, especially in the military or in a police organization, is very dangerous. One day, the Chief of Police or the military leader found out that I am a watermelon. They arrested me immediately. They torture to death for betrayal of them, as an enemy to them. It is very difficult. Very sensitive. To government officials, we are so afraid of being named ‘watermelon’ by our head of division or Chief of Police. But for normal people, they love watermelons. Because watermelons can take sensitive and confidential documents to the media, to the public, to help democracy, to help Myanmar people. So, for the people of Myanmar, watermelon is a hero name. We are proud of being called watermelons.” Kyaw San Han identifies as a "watermelon," a term used to describe members of the police or military who outwardly appear loyal to the military regime (green on the outside) but internally support the pro-democracy movement (red on the inside). This label has become a symbol of secret resistance within the ranks of the military and police, representing individuals who disagree with the junta's brutal repression but cannot openly defy orders without risking severe punishment or death. As a "watermelon," Kyaw San Han covertly supported the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and worked from within to protect civilians when possible. For example, he discreetly helped Sean Turnell during his detention and used his position to undermine the junta's efforts. "Watermelons" like Kyaw San Han can play a crucial role in the movement by gathering intelligence, protecting activists, and providing insights into the military's operations, which can then be used to counter the junta’s strategies. http://dlvr.it/TJjB8L

New gear for 2024: KL-Aeolus is the one
Transparent cases have been prevailed for years with it stunning panoramic view through their tempered glass side panels. These cases look appealing to so many RGB lighting lovers.
But most of the transparent cases in the market are focusing on their appearance instead of on their utilization. So high-performance hardware can’t be adopted as a result of the limited space inside the cases. This stops users from buying the cases. However, this awkward situation in the DIY industry has been solved by Segotep’s new case KL-Aeolus, presenting an exquisite transparent case with both aesthetics and expandability.
As shown in the photos, this is the white version of KL-Aeolus, which is the mostly welcomed by users. When putting this case on a simple and white desk, you will certainly associate it with an exquisite life.
Measuring 476mm*230mm*497mm, KL-Aeolus is standard mid-tower case. It is a good choice for users who can only provide limited room for their cases on or beneath their desks, especially students.
With an overall rectangular design, KL-Aeolus is built with 3 window as its front panels who can be opened to an angle of up to 10 degree, bringing more air for heat dissipation inside. This is why this case was given the name of Aeolus. More air intake will certainly help lower the temperature of the hardware inside the case. And if you need the computer to work quietly, you just need to shut all the windows.
After removing the front panel, there is a dust filter inside. With snap-fit locks for easy attaching/detaching, the filter effectively prevents the case from dust that may cause damage to the hardware.
The TG glass left panel can be easily handled without tools. What’s more, shock pads on the rims of the panel just ensure the glass will not be broken by over-force.
The I/O panel provides 2pcs of USDB 3.0, 1pcs of 3.5mm Audio jack and a Type-C connector with a maximum speed of 10Gbps. These connectors cover all our daily use with wired or wireless devices.
KL-Aeolus supports ATX, M-ATX and ITX motherboards. When assembled with an M-ATX motherboard, the space inside the case is still quite ample. Users don’t have to worry about the room for other hardware even if they get an ATX motherboard.
The case is compatible with many kinds of liquid coolers. You can even fit in a 360mm AIO for the CPU and a 360mm closed loop AIO for the GPU at the same time.It depends on your requirements. And we are going to build a system as a way of demonstration. In order to make the case look amazing while ensuring its heat dissipation, we have adopted a powerful white KL-360 AIO which belongs to Kunlun family, a high-end series by Segotep.
As a mid-tower case, KL-Aeolus provides a large space for the GPU. Even a RTX4090(not founder’s edition) of 4 PCIe slots can be easily fit into the case with 7 slots. There is a GPU bracket included to help avoid any bending of the mobo by the heavy GPU. If you want to mount the GPU vertically, you can buy an extra PCIe 4.0 adapter.
PSU installation is always a headache for starters. If the PSU housing is too small, two awkward situations would happen: it’s difficult to fit the PSU with all cables connected into the bottom of the case, or difficult to connect cables onto the PSU which is already fastened on the bottom of the case. But KL-Aeolus successfully solves these problems with a detachable PSU bracket in its rear panel.
After removing the right panel, we can find the ample routing space for cables even this case is not so wide. Slots in the plates will certainly facilitate the routing of fan cables.
As the debossed marking suggests, a drive can be mounted vertically onto the internal plate. But the FAN legend means it also supports a placement of a 12mm fan which is to lower the temperature behind the PCB.
Many users can’t help ask: how is the heat dissipation capability of such a big case? Well, we can going to build a system with 12700KF and RTX 4070 to find out.
Firstly, we tested the system with AID64. As we can heard, the cooling system was at its full speed when the system was fully loaded with the PCU temperature around 70 to 80℃. This welcoming result was delivered by the vents design of the case.
Secondly, the pc was tested with Furmark. The core temperature of GPU red 56 to 66℃, without any clock frequency lowering.
When it comes to the noise, we tested with 3 games because we knew that on one builds a system just to run AID64 and Furmark. During the gaming test, the noise generated by the cooling system was low even you put your ear against the case panels. So gamers will not be disturbed by the noise even they put their computer on the desk.
In a word, KL-Aeolus is a well-designed case for even picky users. It provides solutions for difficulties users will encounter during the building process, for examples, tool-less panels for easy hardware upgrade and ample space for clean cable routing. As an experienced hardware manufacturer, Segotep has made the best us of this mid-tower case. What’s more, RGB lovers can enjoy the panoramic view of the hardware they built inside the case. If you are looking for a beautiful and useful case, KL-Aeolus is the one!

So normally when I time songs for Ultrastar Deluxe, it takes me about half a day to finish a song, though with most modern English songs it might even take me several days due to all the adlibbing and decorations, which is why I really love timing Japanese songs, as the melody doesn't change much throughout the song.
Yes, there is that small thing where the chorus changes, but that's mostly just changing the lines, but overall, it's easy for me to just copy and paste large sections and do some minor tweaks. This is why Japanese songs can take me around eight hours to do.
Not this song, though! Kurae! Telepathy by Maharajan is even simpler than that. The chorus only has one line changed, and the second verse only has the bridge. In fact, there are only two verses, compared to most songs that have three verses.
What's more, the song could quite literally qualify for a Eurovision song if it was written in Europe and wasn't written specifically for an anime, as the song is under three minutes.
In total, it took me around three to four hours to finish it, and this was with the additional time of checking the song, uploading it to my site, posting it again on USDB, trying (and failing) to post about it on Twitter X, and writing this tumblr post.
Right now I have quite a few songs in my list of songs to do. I still want to do Leo Sayer's Thunder In My Heart, Yvonne Elliman's Love Me (because my mom requested that one) and quite a lot of hololive songs (think songs like Inugami Korone's Wonky Monkey, or Houshou Marine's I'm Your Treasure Box). On top of that, there were a few songs I've seen on the request list of AsgardSings that I do want to do, like Peaky P-Key's Absolute (though Photon Maiden's Akatsuki and Happy Around!'s Brand New World kinda have my personal priorities).
I'm gonna be quite busy for the coming few months. I might also have to tone down the amount of days I'm streaming (not too much of a problem since I do have coughing problems at the moment). Oh well, as long as I have everything ready by Christmas.

Up-Close & Personal is a signal contribution to understanding that drawn-out conflict from a soldier's point of view, informed by knowledge gained from being "up-close" at the basic, ground-pounding or river-patrolling combat level. The author pulls no punches. Detail is uncompromising, hard, often excruciating. All this amid the tumult of politicized youth on the home front shouting "Make love not War" and "Tune in drop out.
Review: I tend not to give 5 stars to books, as I like to reserve that for books that have a profound effect on me. This book qualifies and let me explain why. It's not a perfect book by any means. There are little errors here and there with spelling and such, plus the story isn't that captivating/page turning thrilling. It can even be a slog at times. So why 5 stars? Because Bogison does what few others can - he really conveys the emotional aspect of his thoughts, his feelings, his mental state, his wrestling with what to do, how to do it, what is right and what is wrong... in big decisions and small. He doesn't just tell the good, but also the bad, he explains the stuff he wrestles with and not everything gets wrapped up nice and clean and with a little bow. When I grabbed this book, I was expecting a story about a Military Police in Vietnam. I was expecting a lot of bar fights, investigations of murder and accidents, regular law enforcement stuff. By the title, I also expected discussion of the Chieu Hoi Program/Force 66 - Luc Luong 66. - Let me be clear, this book has 0 of that... none.. nada... zip zilch... NO. Instead it's a book about an MP who is assigned to correctional facilities in the US (Ft. Riley) and Vietnam (LBJ) and ends up in a very special unit of MP's that is called an Ambush and Recon unit made up of MP's instead of infantryman! Because of the location in the Delta, they also have a joint unit with PBR's and skimmers that he finds himself leading as well. It was fascinating to read, the people, the stories, the bureaucracy, and more was captivating and it left me really thinking about the choices he made and how his personality affected his life's course. His temperament is always to attack, to challenge, to push - even against those who are trying to help him. He either sits quietly or attacks ferociously even when confronted with cooler heads to learn from and imitate - he does neither. Whether it was the helicopter crash, the tug boat incident, or a handful of other stories included, one can't help but really feel what the author felt as he just did his best, and all too often memoirs like this one are more about snippets of stories, or tell you what happened but forget the human element. This one has a consistent narrative and does well to really put you in his boots, and look through his eyes.

Dear technoknight117,
You’re telling me he committed these atrocities, and he’s still allowed to send correspondence? You’d better send him to the USDB on the double if you want to keep your stripes! Or title, in this case!
