hello hello! it’s me, the anon that sent the inventor! reader x tighnari/cyno idea. cuz i’ve got another idea for a fluffy imagine/scenario. i’ve also sent the inventor! reader idea to worriedvision as a request, and the imagine is really cute and heartwarming. do check it out! alright so:
the reader makes their own songs as a way of expressing feelings. i like to think that the confesses their love through a song for nilou or tighnari. the song that i have in mind is springtime by wheein. it's cuz the lyrics are so cute and perfect for a confession song. her vocals are just the cherry on top! i just love her a lot bUT ANYWAYS. i wrote some scenarios of possible confessions that the reader might do.
--
the scenario i had for nilou is that the reader performs the song onstage at zubayr theater. the reader works mainly back-stage. mostly for prop making, music for nilou's dances, and helping mr. zubayr with duties for the theater. as they work for the theater, they slowly grow a relationship with nilou. the reader confesses that, one day they want to perform on-stage to sing a song for the crowd but has horrible stage fright and always backs out. nilou encourages the reader to perform either with her or maybe one day they'll perform together on stage.
ok so, as nilou is getting ready backstage for her next performance, she then hears mr. zubayr announcing the reader's performance on-stage. nilou isn't aware of the sudden performance. besides this wasn't in this week's schedule. ofc, with nilou's curious mind, she peeps out to the stage and witnesses the reader's performance for herself. the reader isn't facing the crowd -- instead they turn their back to the crowd and see nilou. the reader apologizes to the crowd, as it may seem rude to not face them while performing. telling the crowd that they do love performing! it's just that the reader is overcoming their stage fright step-by-step. seeing nilou, the reader's confidence boosts as this song was for her. with instrument in hand they start performing. hearing the reader's voice, the crowd is awed at their vocals and performance. nilou was also enjoying the performance.
as nilou was watching, mr. zubayr gave nilou a letter from the reader. stating: "nilou, i love you from the bottom of my heart. i wrote this song for you since the first day we met. i hope you also return the feelings for me. if not, then i hope we can still remain as amazing friends." nilou is shocked, also feeling the same towards towards them. after the performance, the reader heads backstage then suddenly gets hugged by nilou.
"i assume you've read the letter i wrote for you?" "yes! and i would also like to return the feelings you've experienced for me." "so, are we official now? or--"
the reader was cut off by nilou kissing them lovingly. the other staff members gushes at the scene and reminisces this moment. the new couple is now just enjoying eachother's company. while mr.zubayr is telling off nilou that her performance is due and that the crowd is waiting. "just a few more minutes. i just want to cherish this moment forever."
--
ok now for tighnari, the reader in this one is a well-known musician in ghandarva ville. performing weekly to boost the morale for the forest rangers and also for the other folks in ghandarva ville. in this one, tighnari helps out the reader with writing lyrics for performances. in reality -- the reader doesn't need that much help -- instead they just want to spend quality time with the botanist. for this session of lyric writing, the reader invites tighnari to a secluded place in avidya forest. "i once witnessed this place while looking for inspiration for my songs. i'd love for you and me to go there together and write lyrics."
once they've arrived, tighnari adores the view. they were at a cliffside with the view of the whole of sumeru. you can see the lush greenery of avidya forest. then distant city of wisdom and port ormos. then the far more distant mausoleum of king deshret from the dessert. as they enjoy the view and as the sun slowly sets and the night sky starting to fade in. the reader confesses to tighnari, "in actuality, i'm not here to write lyrics, but to confess my feelings for you. i wrote this one for you. expressing my feelings in the way that i'm best at -- through my voice and my instrument." as the reader performs, the botanist relaxes and enjoys the song. butterflies fluttering within him.
once the song was finished, tighnari immediately embraced the reader in a kiss. "you lummox, i've been dropping hints ever since we started writing lyrics together. a shame that you didn't recognized" "oh, looking back, i really didn't notice the subtle hints. my bad" under the night sky, the both of them enjoyed eachother's company in comfortable silence.
--
sorry if the chars are kind ooc. these scenarios live in my head rent-free, but i'm not complaining. i just feel like you're the right person to share these kinds of things! enjoy the scenarios!! oh and i'd love for you to have your own take own this. if possible, ofc!!
sincerely, fluffy anon idea giver or smth idrk
(related post) I did, I saw it! I even reblogged it cuz it's so cute and good haha
This has also been terribly cute, especially my two underrated cuties <3 You said for me to have my own take on this but you already wrote a whole damn fic for these two, there's nothing else I could add!
I could however picture them at some point humming or even absentmindedly singing the song one time, and when others ask them about it, they'll just say it's a special song they've heard. If it was you who happens to hear what the song was, they'll smile at your fluster and sing it more clearly, as if they're the one serenading you like a tease

1. Over 40,000 railway workers in the U.K. on strike.
Rising costs of consumer goods have driven 40,000 railway workers with the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) to walkout of their jobs as part of a coordinated strike. A similar effort took place on Tuesday. The workers are demanding better contracts in the face of inflation and other economic pressures. “We’ll continue to talk to the companies about everything that’s been put on the table and we’ll review that and see if and when there needs to be a new phase of industrial action,” Mick Lynch, secretary-general of RMT told the BBC.
2. Supreme Court overturns New York gun control law, paving the way to overturn most gun control laws.
Today the Supreme Court essentially held that most gun control legislation is unconstitutional. Specifically they overturned a New York law that classified who could receive a concealed carry permit and when. The decision was written by Clarence Thomas and took an originalist reading of the constitution, quoting the infamous Dred Scott decision to declare that open carry was allowed explicitly by the court in the 1860s and should be today. That was only part of the argument but the crux of it is that gun control is a fairly recent development and should be viewed skeptically. This is a significant change from the Heller decision that previously governed the second amendment test and left the door open for some regulation. All bets are off with all sorts of gun control measures in the face of this decision.
3. FDA orders Juul vaporizers off the market.
In an election year the Biden administration decided it was important to make sure people could no longer find Juuls if they want one. Some might remember the Trump administration contemplated a similar ban before the election but decided against it. The FDA claimed “insufficient and conflicting” data in Juul’s in information required to continue selling vape pods. As of today the company must stop selling the Juul vaporizer and four pods.
4. Senate poised to pass gun control bill now in danger due to Supreme Court ruling.
Earlier today the Senate took an important step towards passing a gun control measure allegedly aimed at stopping mass shooting events like those perpetrated recently in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas. 15 Republicans joined with Democrats to bring the vill to a vote. The bill sought to encourage states to pass “red flag laws” which allow authorities to confiscate weapons from people under certain circumstances when they believe they might pose a threat. It also includes enhanced background checks for those under 21. By and large it’s a pretty paltry bill which is why 15 Republicans are willing to support it to begin with.
5. Biden approval rating among 18-35 year olds dips to new low dropping to 22% in new poll.
Joe Biden came into office in part on the backs of a surge of young voter turn out. Something will have to change if Democrats want to change that before elections in November. A new poll from Quinnipiac has Biden’s approval rating among all voters at 35% among voters aged 18-35 it’s even lower at 22%. When Biden took office his approval rating was over 20% higher, averaging just above 55%. Among young voters it sometimes topped 60%. However failure to act on climate, student loans, healthcare, or basically any other issue that animates young voters has left a bad impression and sent his numbers down significantly. Unless something changes, like meaningful legislation on any number of issues, student debt cancelation, something, then Biden’s numbers will likely remain at record lows.

Ville de Amoureux, Part Two
DUBCON! DUBCON! COERCION! DUBCON!
Red or Black chapter four finally up! Sorry for the long wait. I lost my groove for the nasties and got really hung up on this, then got hit with a bunch of schoolwork all at once. The good news is I should hopefully be able to get back into the swing of writing more often soon.
With this chapter I’ve finally gotten past the exposition of the story I want to tell. Please enjoy some good old-fashioned robodicking, but to reiterate the general warning for this story, it is dubious consent/coercion, so please watch the tags! Reader is afab using fem pronouns.
Previous chapter
You shivered as you entered the room, the entire top floor of the most expensive hotel in the city. “I would have settled for nothing less,” Max had confirmed with the receptionist before accepting the key to the private elevator that opened directly into the suite.
You gasped as you saw bags and boxes of all shapes and sizes stacked neatly on and around the entry table. You recognized each as the packaging from the different shops you’d ventured in during the afternoon.
“Oh good, my packages were delivered.” The omnic was in a pleasant mood. He shrugged out of his coat, hanging it carefully on a peg near the door and adjusting his livre tournois pin, then loosened his tie and headed to the left of the suite. You followed. The suite was slightly terraced and you stepped down into the large bedroom, your breath catching at the sight before you.
The entire far wall was made of glass, with a sliding panel that opened out onto a weathered stone balcony. The right wall boasted an easy chair, a fireplace, and a large entertainment screen. A sleek black California King laid low to the white floor on the left, and a table and chairs sat in the nearest corner across from it. Max had carefully hung his coat in a side closet and was advancing with two glasses and a bottle of wine from a bucket on the table.
“Have you enjoyed Paris, miss?” He handed one of the glasses to you and began to pour.
“Very much so, Max. Thank you for bringing me.” You nodded and sipped your  drink. “I-“ you stopped short when you saw Max pouring the other glass for himself. “You’re able to drink wine?”
The omnic chuckled. “Only on special occasions. Many have wondered if I have an alcohol processor, but few know the truth. As far as wine goes, the acidity isn’t the best on my circuits, but I find the taste of it . . .” he brushed a lock of hair out of your face and behind your ear. “ . . . exquisite.”
“You can taste things, too?” You raised an eyebrow as you sipped.
“My dear, I have had just about every upgrade for my kind imaginable. I can experience most, if not all, of what you humans can. Money and power can get you the most . . . incredible things.” He swirled his glass and headed out onto the balcony, unbuttoning his vest.
It was a gorgeous view of the Seine. The lights of the city twisted across the waves of the surface, and the Eiffel Tower sparkled on the opposite bank. A waxing crescent moon hung high above, casting a small amount of light on the smooth old stone. Max had a hand in his pocket as he stared up at it. But as calm as the scenery was, you knew the mood had shifted. All the warmth had left.
He heard your step behind him and spoke without moving. “I don’t want to force you, you know. But I will if necessary.” His voice had lost all of its usual pleasantness and song-like cadence. Gone was the negotiator. “You know what this night is. What you agreed to.”
He sipped his drink, giving you time to respond.
You paused, considered. His threat hung in the air. You’d known this moment would come, when he’d decide to finalize your commitment. You had sold yourself to him and there was no backing out of the contract.
But in an instant you knew that didn’t matter. The touching throughout the day, all the gifts he had bought were intended to rile you up, and they had. Seeing Maximilien bathed in the pale light of the moon, looking up at stars only his mechanical eyes could see through the pollution of the city, a wave of desire flooded your body. Even though you had only spent two weeks in his company you wanted to be his, completely. He had you caught in his trap, and you were ready to surrender.
You grabbed his upper arm. He turned to you.
“Then let’s not waste any more time,” you said.
The tension snapped and his eyes flickered over you before he threw his glass to the side and grabbed yours to do the same. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you against him, leaning his head to your neck to take in the scent of your perfume.
“Your pulse. So quick, so hot, so human. I could end your life in seconds if I desired, just by making a small incision is this spot. How fragile you are, darling. And how I’ve longed for this night since I first met you.”
As he murmured in your ear his hands were roaming your curves and you found yourself being moved backwards into the room. His fingers pinched through your clothes, exploring which spots made you whimper and gasp as he pressed you against a wall.
He pulled back, surveying your dress then meeting your gaze. He repeated his movements from the car that morning, caressing your jaw and slipping his fingers into the split at your thigh. You sighed, heat continuing to blossom through you as his hand traveled further up your leg.
“A shame about this dress, really,” he said coyly. “I think it’s been my favorite so far, but it’s time to unwrap my purchase.”
With that his hands disappeared from your face and thigh and settled on your plunging neckline. He ripped the fabric as if it were tissue, and your nipples stiffened as they were exposed to the cool night air.
“My, my, miss,” he purred. “You look ravishing.”
Max pushed the straps off your arms and pressed his face into your now-bare chest, rubbing circles into your back. Despite the fact he was an omnic, his touch felt hot against you and you keened into him. You would have contemplated upgrades that he could have had to not feel cold to humans, but your thoughts were quickly fogging up as he opened his mechanical jaw to nip at you. You let out a deep moan and he chuckled, pulling back and slipping out of his vest.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Max took off his tie and shoes and began to unbutton his shirt. “Come sit in front of me,” he commanded. “You must be wondering how this is going to work.”
You knelt obediently at his feet. “Yes.”
“Yes, Sir,” he corrected.
“Yes, Sir.”
He spread his legs wide and reached for his belt buckle. “Few omnics are able to afford sexual hardware upgrades, let alone software to accompany them.”
”I take it I am in the presence of one such, Sir?”
“I have the resources, yes,” he chuckled, unzipping his slacks and pulling out his member for inspection.
It was a good eight inches in length, and of a solid thickness. The exterior was made of several smooth plates, though the seams between them were practically nonexistent. Maximilien observed you hungrily as your eyes widened, taking him in. Your hand flinched towards it and he chuckled. “Go ahead, my dear. You may touch me.”
You nodded and brushed a few fingers up and down his length. He inhaled sharply, leaning his head back and trying to hide his hands digging into the bedding. As you stroked, the head began to secrete liquid. “Self-lubricating?” you asked, curious.
“I’m not a fool,” he replied as you spread the viscous fluid around his member. “I want you to enjoy this.”
Tentatively, you leaned forward and gave the tip a lick. “Strawberry?!”
Maximilien’s metal eyelids seemed to express a frown. “You don’t like it?”
“No, no, it’s not that. I-I like it, I really do—“ you stammered. “I’m just . . . surprised, is all.”
“Once I learn more of your favorite flavors we can try them out,” he offered. “But let’s move on for now, shall we?” He stood and finished shedding his vest and shirt, letting them fall to the ground carelessly.
That’s so unlike him, you thought.
“Up,” he commanded. “And go lie on your back.”
You stood, picking at the remains of your bodice. “My dress, Sir?”
“I like it so much I think I’m going to fuck you in it first,” he purred.
You swallowed at the crude words, very unusual for him, but nodded and crawled onto the bed, laying your head against the pillows and shivering with anticipation.
Maximilien finished undressing and his eyes flashed at you as he advanced. Your heart pounded as you stared up at him, your breath quick and shallow. Hungrily, his gaze devoured your form sprawled out beneath him. And then he began.
He lifted the hem of the dress, flipping it up to your waist before running his metal palms up your smooth legs. You trembled as they reached your upper thigh and you heard him chuckle.
“You humans are so sensitive.” He hooked his hands under your knees and bent them, spreading your legs. He took a deep breath. “Yes, the scent of human female arousal. How . . . invigorating.”
He lunged and you felt your soaked panties torn away instantly. You flinched reflexively at the sudden feeling of the cool night air, but the omnic caught your legs, keeping them open. “Now, now, none of that, my dear,” he chided, adjusting his position and lining himself up with your entrance. “I want to watch your face as I fill you.”
You looked up into the red, glowing eyes looming above you, and a moment later, your mouth contorted into an O as he slowly pressed his length into you. “Yes, that’s it, my girl, take it. Take me. I’ve waited so long for this, to make you mine.”
You squirmed under him, trying to adjust. It was a tight fit, and your last sexual encounter had been a long time ago. But his member was warm and slick with lubricant, and felt pleasant inside you. You gasped as he fully hilted himself, reaching up and grabbing his arms for something to ground yourself with as you looked at where you were joined. It was dizzying how full you felt. And it was absolutely amazing. Panting, you looked back up into his eyes.
“Well?” he asked after a moment.
You responded by wrapping your legs around him and pressing him even closer to you. “Please,” you whispered. “Don’t hold back.”
You heard a deep, grinding chuckle in the back of Maximilien’s throat. He bent down next to your ear. “My dear, I never had any intention of doing so.”
You keened as he began moving inside you, rough and quick. Every thrust had him hitting a very sweet spot inside you, and you let go of his arms to grab the bars of the headboard above you for purchase.
The omnic grunted and growled as he pounded you into the mattress, very pleased with how you were responding to him. Experimentally, he slowed down a bit and stroked your clit. You whined and your back arched off the bed at the touch.
“That’s it, darling,” he crooned.
Your head was spinning. The searing heat between your legs was more intense than anything you’d ever felt before. The bed was shaking and creaking with every thrust and you couldn’t help but throw your head back into the pillows and add to the noise.
The omnic hummed, pleased, and picked up his pace again. His dick was so hard inside you that you felt like you were being split in two. Your moans increased in pitch and suddenly your orgasm ripped through you with little warning. You let out one final cry and collapsed back on the sheets, panting heavily and Max withdrew.
You looked at him curiously. “You didn’t—”
“I don’t remember giving you permission to come, darling.” he cut you off. But he didn’t sound angry. “That being said, that was one of the most beautiful displays I’ve ever seen. As such, I won’t punish you this time.”
You wiped away a few beads of sweat on your forehead.
“That being said, I still haven’t finished. So I’m going to need you to turn over and get on your hands and knees.”
You were grateful your face was already flushed so your shyness wouldn’t be too evident to him. You were finally catching your breath, so you lifted yourself and turned around.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” you heard him click behind you. “You put a wet patch through this skirt.”
“You tease, Sir.”
“Not at all. This is exactly what I was hoping for.” With that, Maximilien flipped the hem back up to your waist, presenting your ass to him. A deep, gravelly moan escaped him as he pinched and prodded and you whimpered in response.
He gripped your hips and sank back inside your soaked entrance. Once again, the fullness felt wonderful, but at this angle it was even better. Your hips rocked back into him involuntarily and he smacked your ass in response. You cried out. The sting of his slap felt good. Really good. Your hips wiggled some more. “Please, Sir?” You begged.
Maximilien seemed to lose control. At once he was pounding into you and you almost fell forward onto the bed. You lowered yourself to your elbows and gripped the bars of the headboard again; your wrists would tire too quickly with the furious pace the omnic was driving.
All too soon, that same hot coil was tightening in your core. Metal fingers dug into your hips, no doubt leaving bruises Max would be very pleased with in the morning.
For a few moments the only sounds were the bed’s soft creaking, your own short gasps and pants, and the wet pounding coming from behind you. Then you heard servos whirring higher and higher in pitch.
“I’m getting close, my dear,” the omnic announced. “I want you to come with me.”
That didn’t seem to be a problem. The angle was hitting that sweet bundle of nerves inside you at such a brutal pace that you found yourself clenching around him and falling over the edge just a moment before he followed.
He let out a long groan as he poured himself into you, then stilled as you both reveled in the afterglow for several moments.
“Let’s get rid of this,” he murmured after he recovered, gripping the top of what was left of the dress and tearing it clean down the back before discarding the shreds to the floor. He pulled his cock out slowly with a squelch and a chuckle, letting it lower back into a relaxed position.
“Oh, it’s running all down your thighs.” You could hear the smile in his voice as you collapsed forward onto the bed, boneless and covered in a sheen of sweat.
Maximilien disappeared for a moment, returning with a small towel from the en suite. “Here, darling. Let’s clean each other up, yes? You first.”
You nodded, weakly. You were exhausted and Max was gentle in wiping the sticky substances from your body. When he was finished your eyes stole to his lower half for a brief second and the look did not escape him. He dropped the towel to the floor and laid down beside you on the bed.
“Yes, you may. Go ahead,” he said softly.
You leaned over and began slowly licking his shaft, savoring the sweet, tangy strawberry flavor. You were tired, but careful to be thorough in cleaning him. You swirled your tongue around his tip one last time and gave it a small kiss before coming back up. “Thank you, Sir.”
The omnic extended an arm to you, and you snuggled in to his side obligingly. He stroked your arm and you hummed a melody softly. He purred, content. “You did very well today. Yes, I think this is going to work out nicely. And please, outside of our bedroom activities, you can just call me Max.”

Randall Lane is a fucking bastard capshit shill that should shut his idiot cockholster.
I was in the library the other day and sitting on a shelf was a stack of Forbes magazines, the facing issue featuring some dickhead grinning smugly at me beneath the headline
Reimagining Capitalism: How The Greatest System Ever Conceived (And Its Billionaires) Need To Change
I knew that I was going to hate whatever I found on those pages, but I had to read it anyway. It was intriguing for two reasons: capitalists actually acknowledging the fact that systemic changes need to be made is something in itself, something which should make people extremely nervous, and it’s never a bad idea to read enemy propaganda. Of course Forbes is capprop par excellence, and I was morbidly curious in regards to what they thought needed to be changed and how. The most surprising thing about its suggestions was just how unsurprising they are in their tepidity and belief in their own perverse self-assured reaction, with the usual capitalist mythologizing mixed in.
Sitting in a modest room in New York’s immodest Peninsula Hotel, the richest person in the world for most of the past 20 years ponders an existential question suddenly in vogue among the left’s confiscatory set: Should he even exist? “It is fascinating,” says Bill Gates, “that for the first time in my life, people are saying, ‘Okay, should you have billionaires?’ ”
Dispassionately, he begins to unpack that thesis. “I’m afraid if you really implemented something like that, that the amount you would gain would be much less than the amount you would lose. Now, that sounds self-interested, so who’s the neutral witness on this one? … We need somebody who’s not wealthy to say that in some cases allowing people to be wealthy is okay.”
Allow me to raise my hand. For the past year, I’ve had one-on-one discussions with no fewer than two dozen billionaires, including face-to-face meetings with the three richest people in the world—Jeff Bezos, Gates and Warren Buffett—touching on various aspects of capitalism’s future. It comes at an urgent moment: You’d have to go back to the 1960s, or maybe even the 1930s, to find a time when the primacy of the free market system was so widely questioned.
Just 56% of Americans say they have a positive image of capitalism, according to a Gallup poll last summer, compared with 37% who said the same thing about socialism. In a Fox News poll during the same period, 36% of adults approved of a shift in the U.S. “away from capitalism and more toward socialism”—a huge increase from 2012, when just 20% said so. Among Millennials and Gen Z, free market skepticism is actually the majority view. In Gallup’s poll, 51% of those 18 to 29 had a positive view of socialism—albeit the largely fuzzy Scandinavian/Bernie Sanders version rather than the Soviet/Berlin Wall hard stuff—compared with 45% for capitalism. That finding was echoed by a Harvard survey of young adults in which 51% said they did not support capitalism and only 19% said they “identify as a capitalist.” These sentiments come amid an economy that by all traditional measures is booming, with full employment and 3% growth. So far, 2019 has offered only reinforcement of these views, as tech companies have continued to bleed credibility, Howard Schultz turned himself into a cartoon and a slew of tax-the-very-rich proposals garnered surprisingly high support. “This has been brewing for years, accelerating in the last few months and again in the last few weeks,” says Steve Case, the AOL founder who now runs an investment firm, Revolution. The hedge fund titan Paul Tudor Jones adds: “I think we need to acknowledge that we’re at a crossroads, with massive social fissures.”
And those were just some of the billionaires willing to speak on the record. Virtually everyone I talked to acknowledged the need for change. Some incremental and many systemic; some spoke in whispers, many in full-throated pleas for “reform” or “a reboot.” The rock star Bono had perhaps the most poetic suggestion: a reimagination. If such a term conjures Steve Jobs or Walt Disney, two of capitalism’s visionary saints, so be it. Entrepreneurial capitalism remains, objectively, the best system ever invented to create and distribute prosperity, and if you look at the billion-plus people in China, India and elsewhere who were lifted from extreme poverty in the past two decades, it remains easy to sing its praises. The dynamism remains true in the U.S., too. Of The Forbes 400 list of richest Americans, 67% are self-made and 11% are immigrants. “America works, and it works now better than it ever worked,” Buffett says.
Since too many Americans don’t feel that way, the time is ripe to reimagine a system that addresses them. Pick the brains of some of the greatest-ever manifestations of the American Dream, and an AAA-version of capitalism emerges, one more authentic, accessible and accountable—and perhaps, in an age of uncertainty, one that’s built to last. The stakes couldn’t be higher, as forces gather to threaten the greatest prosperity engine ever built.
Reimagining Capitalism as...Authentic
The French nobleman Alexis de Tocqueville’s travels across America in the 1830s coincided with the emergence of socialist theory back in Europe, a movement he presciently and stridently criticized. For Tocqueville, the balanced capitalism he witnessed compared favorably to the options back home, such as ceding power to the government or a more feudal system “managed by a few rich and powerful individuals.” “The inhabitants of the United States almost always manage to combine their own advantage with that of their fellow citizens,” he observed. Tocqueville’s musings inspired Friedrich Hayek’s Road to Serfdom and filtered into the very first issue of Forbes, printed during Russia’s Revolution, when the magazine’s founder, B.C. Forbes, famously declared that “business was originated to produce happiness, not to pile up millions.”
Milton Friedman was another 20th-century admirer of Tocqueville, particularly for his focus on political equality as a driver of prosperity. But Friedman famously held that among all the constituents of business—the customer, the employees, the community—just one ultimately mattered, the shareholder. The only social responsibility of business, he declared, was to maximize profits. If shareholders wanted to spend their profits on altruistic projects, great, but that was at their sole discretion, with the assumption they were buying something of value—perhaps social approbation or the assuaging of guilt.
This maxim gave us LBOs, private equity deals and employee buyouts. And to many of the world’s most successful capitalists, it also created many of the current ills. “How wrong I was about Milton Friedman—most of us were,” says Jones, who built a $5 billion fortune exploiting market opportunities, including shorting the 1987 market crash. “It came at great cost to other corporate stakeholders and eroded the trust on which companies, and civil society, depends.”
In an era when consumers crave authenticity, the Tocqueville version, which sees profits as a by-product of business rather than its singular mission, offers a natural strain of capitalism that’s already hugely popular, especially among younger Americans. For Millennials, according to a massive Deloitte survey in 2018, the bottom three priorities for a business should be profits, efficiency and sales. The top three? Generating jobs, improving society and innovation.
Authenticity explains why Americans, while disliking Wall Street and big business, continue to love entrepreneurs (87% approval, per Gallup) and small business (96%). And why purpose-driven companies like Patagonia and Warby Parker are wreathed in halos, no matter what they’re selling or how rich the founders get.
“When we’re acquiring companies, one of the things I look at very closely is ‘Are the founders of a company missionaries or mercenaries?’ ” Jeff Bezos told me several months ago, before revealing the answer with his famous braying laugh. “It’s actually very easy to tell—missionaries make better products and services.” They also engender the one authentic trait that’s ultimately the most profitable: trust. That word, says Bezos, “is what allows you to expand the business.”
Of course, trust is a double-edged sword. As Facebook treats user data as a chit rather than a covenant, the company’s reputation—and Zuckerberg’s—has tanked. (In the realm of extremely unlikely outcomes, it’s now easier to envision him in the Big House than in the White House.) It’s also why Wall Street remains about as popular as big tobacco.
But even in finance, roots of authenticity shoot up. Impact investing, long dismissed as a niche for do-gooders, has emerged as a growth area, with some $35 billion committed in 2018 to fund businesses that carry societal benefits without sacrificing returns. “We’re talking about solving problems using innovation and entrepreneurship,” says Nancy Pfund, who founded DBL Partners and has raised $625 million in three venture funds. Her flagship, with investments in Tesla and SolarCity, has ranked in the top performance quartile across this decade. “When you just look at the super-short-term shareholder, you’re not taking advantage of innovation—and you’re cheating the future.”
The numbers are getting larger: Breakthrough Energy Ventures, backed by a consortium of billionaires such as Gates, Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, Richard Branson and Jack Ma, has pledged $1 billion for startups that promise radical solutions to carbon emissions. A similarly platinum-plated tycoon cohort, including Bono, Laurene Powell Jobs and Jeff Skoll, has backed the Rise Fund, an arm of private equity giant TPG that has deployed $1.8 billion in 25 investments they think will have significant impact on society. “People are rightfully asking, ‘Is the system working?’ ” says Bill McGlashan, the CEO of the Rise Fund. “We believe that capitalism is a better servant than master.”
Reimagining Capitalism as...Accessible
For those who rightly still believe in America as the land of opportunity, a Fox News survey from just a few weeks ago should offer pause: 42% of Americans do not think “the way capitalism works in the U.S. these days” gives them “a fair shot.” Even more troubling: In a country that has always held true to the premise that you could make it through hard work—or at least your children could—18% thought that the American Dream is out of reach for their family.
And there are ample stats to back up the sentiment. In the U.S. the top 1% of workers, collectively, earn vastly more than the bottom 50%. “The market system as it gets more specialized pushes more money to the top,” Buffett explains. “The natural function of a more specialized market economy is to divert more and more of the rewards to the top. That’s something I don’t think we’ve fully addressed in this country.”
But the situation is actually far worse than yawning income disparity. Americans have historically viewed the superrich as heroes, not villains, for a simple reason: “We all thought we could be like them,” Jones says. It’s the accelerating lack of upward mobility that’s fueling much of this populist anger. For all the anecdotal success stories, if you’re born in the wrong Zip code, to the wrong parents, the road to The Forbes 400 has never looked longer or narrower.
Take venture capital, the clearest starting point to a billion-dollar fortune over the past 20 years—a door the vast majority of Americans have no way of opening. Just 15% of VC money goes to women founders, 1% to black entrepreneurs and less than a quarter to anyone who lives outside California, New York and Massachusetts. Yes, a far more global, diverse pool now has access to those funding meccas, but that’s little comfort to a parent whose kid goes to a so-so public school in a city or region that’s been left behind.
“It needs to be a national priority to level the playing field,” says Case, who for the past few years has conducted a Rise of the Rest bus tour, traveling the country and putting millions into more than 100 companies that aren’t in Boston, New York or the San Francisco Bay Area. To Case, it’s both civic duty and opportunity, as brilliant minds lie fallow in low-cost areas desperate for high-growth hope.
Pfund actually counts women leaders before investing in a firm—almost two thirds of the companies in her funds have a woman at the CFO level or higher. She also pushes her portfolio to spread the opportunity, through profit-sharing plans, living-wage commitments and encouragement to hire in underserved areas.
All these efforts are on the margin, short of a commitment to create educational opportunities for those with ambition and then a track for them going forward. “We will have the resources,” Buffett says. “The question is, will we in effect pull everybody in who’s able-bodied and willing to work 40 hours a week so they can make a decent living, raise a family?”
Reimagining Capitalism as...Accountable
Something unusual happened a few hours after my sit-down with Bill Gates. Fresh off pondering the future of billionaires, he went on Stephen Colbert’s eponymous show with his wife, Melinda, to a crescendo of cheers. In accepting his new role as the world’s second-richest person, he quipped, “We’re trying to give it away faster”—and the audience swooned. From their call for higher taxes on the superrich to the obligations of the successful to the empowerment of women, the applause kept coming. By the end, Colbert was playfully goading the Gateses to run for political office.
Compare that with the Bronx cheer that echoed through New York later that week, when Amazon announced it was pulling out from its HQ2 plan in Queens. The math-challenged politicians who killed the deal took justifiable heat from pretty much everyone except their base. But Bezos was bloodied just as badly. He’s worth over $130 billion (at least until his divorce settles), and Amazon is worth $800 billion. Why extract a measly $3 billion in corporate welfare from New York? In the truest Friedman sense: because he has shareholders—and he could.
The dueling reactions underscore an American truth as timeless as Astor and Cooper and Rockefeller: Americans expect their meritocratic royalty to remain accountable to the public that helped create them.
Traditionally, that means philanthropy, an aspect of extreme success (there are now 137 deca-billionaires in the world) that no longer feels optional, albeit one that still engenders cynicism. Says Gates: “The attack that ‘Why should you even have a say in setting the agenda?’ That has a certain resonance to it.”
For Gates, who within our lifetime will likely be regarded as the greatest philanthropist ever, accountability starts with framing the role: “picking novel ideas” or “off-the-wall theories,” as he says, and then proving that the concepts work, or don’t, taking the kinds of risks that no taxpayer-funded government—or shareholder-dependent corporation—could justify.
But in this era, Gates also recognizes that motives will be questioned. “If we come and improve math class,” Gates says, “then people are like, ‘Hey, you didn’t do the band.’ ” For this reason, Gates tries to hold himself publicly accountable through transparency, including a public letter from the foundation that he and Melinda write each year. It’s also the driving reason for the Giving Pledge, in which 189 of the world’s wealthiest people have affirmed, for all to see, that they will give away at least half of their fortunes, most much more.
A Giving Pledge signatory, Salesforce founder Marc Benioff has similarly shifted from anonymous giving to putting his name on two hospitals, in part to be a role model for emerging tech billionaires and in part because “it sent a message that we’re supporting the community in a tangible way.” And he does the same thing with his company, which pioneered a “1, 1, 1” model that placed 1% of the company’s equity in a trust, along with a pledge to donate 1% of its software products and 1% of his 35,000 employees’ time to volunteer work. It’s a combination that’s generated $260 million in grants and 3.8 million hours for civic causes.
Rather than rely on such voluntary munificence, Jones, who cut his philanthropic teeth founding the innovative Robin Hood Foundation in New York, has focused for the past several years on holding corporate America directly accountable for better capitalism. He founded Just Capital, which has surveyed more than 80,000 Americans in order to get a precisely calibrated take on what makes a good corporate citizen. America’s older workers, it turns out, aren’t so different from its youngest, desiring companies to pay and treat their employees well, put out good products that have integrity, and care about the environment and the community.
Just Capital ranks every major public company across its 36 criteria, from best to worst, proffering a Good Housekeeping-like seal to the top companies, in order to spur better corporate citizenry. (Disclosure: I’m on the Just Capital board, and Forbes publishes the annual Just 100 list each fall.) “You can’t manage what you can’t measure,” says Jones, who also helped Just launch a $200 million ETF in June 2018 that has so far outperformed the S&P 500.
Measurement has also been driving McGlashan at the Rise Fund, which has a hard time justifying billions in investments in social good when no one can define what “good” is. To that end, Rise incubated and then recently spun out Y Analytics, a firm devoted to measuring this impact—a key step in making capitalism still more solutions-oriented.
Such remedies are urgent. “Unless we find a market-based solution to the exponential growth in inequality, we will end up with populist legislation that creates a hammer to go after every nail,” Jones says. He’s right. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s much-touted 70% income tax bracket displays a stark lack of understanding how fortunes in this country are built—through ownership, not earnings. Elizabeth Warren’s wealth surcharge would require an army of appraisers. “Here’s the problem with all of those,” says the venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. “There is international mobility.”
Virtually every billionaire I spoke with acknowledged that higher taxes on the billionaire set are inevitable; most even saw them as beneficial, if correctly applied. According to Gates, Buffett, Khosla and others, the correct way to levy taxes on the superrich is at a transaction point. Either an estate tax without the loopholes that currently render it useless or a higher capital gains tax applied only on extreme fortunes, to avoid suppressing growth.
And better yet, the tax code can be refined to encourage growth and spread it around more evenly. The launch of opportunity zones, engineered by the Facebook and Spotify billionaire Sean Parker, has already been put in motion, offering tantalizing tax breaks in needy areas of all 50 states. Adjusting corporate tax rates based on jobs created—more jobs, lower taxes—is another worthy idea.
The eternal beauty of the free market is its ability to evolve. Leave it to the most admired capitalist in the world, Warren Buffett, who has lived through more than one third of this country’s history and who bought his first stock in 1942, at a moment when it was conceivable the U.S. could lose World War II, to make a prediction: “The luckiest person that will ever be born in the world to date will be a baby being born in the United States today.” Bet against Buffett, and capitalism, at your peril.
Some socialists poo-poo periodicals like Forbes or The Economist for being bourgeois rags, and they’re right. This whole piece is trash not fit for wiping one’s ass. It’s nothing but a puff propaganda piece for capitalists to tell other capitalists about how great they are, how essential they are, how right they are by virtue of being billionaires and how the jealous little people should just bootstrap themselves into wealth and plenty like they did.
It’s thanks in part to pieces like this that make class warfare and violent revolution ultimately necessary. These cretins delude themselves in a comfortable fantasy, a narrative myth about their own greatness meant to reassure themselves that the innumerable interlocking apparatuses which produce and secure their wealth are in fact benign, that the human suffering it produces is incidental rather than inherent. Randall Lane, this stupid fucker, praises Benioff for doing nothing. Nothing! He himself doesn’t do anything for charity except give away a tiny fraction of other people’s stolen money and forces his employees to do “volunteer work.” But that’s praiseworthy in their degenerate minds. Other people do the work, and they get all the credit.
“Opportunity Zones.” Reading the words made me want to vomit. Orwell, who these bastards have the temerity to quote in the back of the magazine, sandwiched between Sappho and Ayn Rand, would have a field day.
Forbes is a valuable resource for any socialist. We should thank the capitalists for being so considerate in compiling in one place so much information on these criminals and their crimes. All in all, a tremendous compilation of evidence for each of these loathsome worms’ cases before the people’s tribunal. Masturbatory passages will be read aloud to the millionaires and billionaires and their subhuman frontmen like Randall, and will be the last thing they hear aside from the hissing sound of metal on metal before the People’s Razor delivers the results of their “market-based solutions.”

Employee Benefits: 5/1/08
Do you know of any that can be used as rat deterrent that are safe for felines? 15 Things to know before a steroid cycle! Or you can make it fun by checking out what activities are going on in your community. No can do. After a month, I'm allowed to ask them to cancel the order which will take an additional 28 days. Colorado companies like Leever’s Supermarkets, New Belgium Brewery, and Namaste Solar are great examples of how companies of all sizes can adopt this practice. Victims of online scams are often too embarrassed to come forward. Aside from sending money, victims may be handing over their debit card or credit card details to thieves. Water would stop flowing out of your faucets and sanitary sewer systems would cease to function. Anticipation ran high as the clock ticked closer to midnight on Water Street in St. John’s. The contamination of the water has made those who live on rural areas to drink more soda pop which contribute to increase diabetes and obesity rates. You’ll be prompted to download an app with the promise of being able to see who has viewed your profile. On the off chance that any of the symptoms quits fooling around, or in the event that you see any reactions not recorded in this flyer, if it’s not too much trouble tell your specialist or drug specialist. The idea is that many drug databases contain too many false positive interaction rules, so adoption is slowed by alert fatigue. Prescription drug addiction is becoming a major problem in America. Problem was it wasn’t his place, and the other people living there were very unsanitary. The Republicans appointed people to the FDA who had contempt for science and used ideology to approve or disapprove drugs. But if the redirecting ads are eliminated, canadian online pharmacies then such lesser known brands would have no way of attracting people who are looking for treatments. They are at Albuoy's Point, Par-la-Ville Park, the cruise ship passenger terminals and on Victoria Street behind City Hall. Increasingly, carve-outs are being used to better manage a wide variety of medical conditions such as pregnancy, asthma, and diabetes. Networks must be well-dispersed geographically and include the necessary medical disciplines to be able to deliver services at all levels of care. Other critics say that simply cutting services isn’t enough, and that the real solution is figuring out a way to reinvent the postal service to meet the needs of our wired world. Bermuda's main ferry service centre for all public transportation information. As I point out to them, it's their health, not mine. Thanks to diabetes for giving us the reason to do all these exercises to be physically fit. Attempts to rein in the cost of medical care in the 1970s seemed to have little effect. Too often, politicians talk about health care as if it begins and ends when you get sick or need to visit a doctor. We’ve all of us seen the doctor and have even had a few procedures done. Of the remaining employees, few were in traditional plans. Expand coverage for gym and health-club memberships in insurance plans. In most cases, the coverage purchased under the carve-out plan is some form of permanent life insurance protection that provides paid-up coverage at retirement. The employer then gives any premium savings to each "carved-out" employee in the form of a bonus, which is fully deductible to the employer as long as the employee's overall compensation is reasonable. Paragraph 1904.7(b)(2) requires the employer to record an injury or illness that results in death by entering a check mark on the OSHA 300 Log in the space for fatal cases. I wouldn’t particularly recommend ordering from Organabus, as I didn’t feel anything from their vape product and didn’t have any results with anything else on their site. I have lived here 7 years, and this is the first. First and last month’s rent are typically required to secure the rental property. Policy provisions are helpful in such situations. Location: Saint-Sulpice, Quebec, Canada

La galerie RIO
As a design enthusiast, the craftsman kept the desire to conceive an aesthetic that would glorify his intrinsic universe. Known for their conceptual approach, architectural technician, Nathalie St-Martin and designer, Stéphanie Bélanger of Rebel Design, have collaborated to make this vision a reality.
Fabelta’s approach to the development of the fenestration systems for the residence was to maximize the openings, while leaving enough wall space to display the many paintings.
The private gallery The existing gallery on the first floor is composed of large spaces that allow a fluid circulation. The multiple works of art presented are created using unusual techniques, such as gold leafing. The monochromatic decor of the first floor allows the vibrant paintings to capture the attention of the visitors. The large windows offer optimal natural light through their minimalist aluminum frames. These huge openings enable views of a dense green environment, including a lush coniferous garden.
The living areas The main living areas are occupied by furniture featuring unusual materials. There are also mysterious objects carefully integrated into the space. The design of the dining room makes use of many natural materials, including a massive wooden table and a wall lined with climbing plants, creating a surreal atmosphere. The adjacent kitchen adopts a pure, monochromatic style where black is omnipresent.
Upstairs, we are transported to an immaculate white living room, where a cluster of plants emerges from the corner. This duality with the dark first floor is amplified by the arrangement of black window frames on the first floor, and by white frames on the second.

Big City, Small World
On the third floor, Sylvere found himself in a wide, unexpected space similar to the one on the second floor. The difference was the collection of small circular tables surrounded by chairs and other office equipment which he now saw. Perhaps 15 people huddled together in small groups, typing on computers.
A young man stepped out of a small room, apparently a lavatory, on the eastern side of the room and told Sylvere where to find Bénédicte. When Sylvere approached the northwestern corner of the building, he saw a large circular table under a tall window. At the table sat a child-like figure hunched over a stack of files.
Inexplicably, Sylvere recognized the woman who, noticing the appearance of someone she expected to be a stranger, put down the piece of paper she held and rose from the table. As she walked toward him, extending one hand, Sylvere recalled a scene almost 40 years previously in a medical clinic atop a muddy hill on the outskirts of Beni, a city of 250,000 people in the northeastern corner of Congo 75 kilometers from Uganda.
On an overcast day in 1982 outside Beni, Sylvere had traveled with his friend, Ronald, to the medical clinic’s primitive facilities where they encountered a diminutive woman wearing the habit of a Dominican nun. She stood next to a group of Mbuti people, commonly known as pygmies. She was no taller than any of the four Mbuti men accompanying three Mbuti women and one of their children who came from the nearby Ituri rainforest so the child could receive treatment for an acute case of dysentery.
Standing in the offices of Le Carrefour and shaking the tiny hand of the woman, who no longer wore a habit but who now wore an austere black dress, Sylvere recalled that Ronald, a young medical doctor returning from Europe to Congo with plans of opening his own clinic, eventually had chosen the city of Rutshuru, 300 kilometers south of Beni, as the site of his new practice. But both Sylvere and Ronald had been impressed by the nun, who although diminutive in stature was commanding in presence.
“Ronald was a good man,” Bénédicte commented, seemingly reading Sylvere’s thoughts. “True, he didn’t fully grasp the severity of his situation caught between a desire to help innocent men, women, and children and a need to co-operate with scrupulous business and political operators seeking power and wealth.” Bénédicte directed her gaze upward into Sylvere’s face with an intensity and coldness which plunged his thoughts into a state of confusion. The gaze had a profound impact on Sylvere, simultaneously surprising and repulsing him.
Meeting her gaze, Sylvere calculated the small woman before him was at least 85 years old. He wondered what sustained her over so many years in her work. He didn’t think her efforts were born of empathy or even love for fellow human beings.
“Of course, Ronald also was a good doctor,” Bénédicte continued, leading Sylvere back to the table. Through the tall window, Sylvere saw a view of the streets in that ancient quarter of Paris he had not seen before. He wondered if the building was owned by the Catholic Church or else one of its wealthy and loyal adherents.
Bénédicte gestured toward one of the chairs at the table, directing the intensity of her gaze at Sylvere again.
“But the Lord had other plans for Ronald in Heaven,” the small woman added. “Who are we to question the designs of our Heavenly father?”
Old Woman on the Street
***
The dark clouds massing in the skies some distance north of Paris during the late morning now extended southward to the skies above the city. Still Sylvere thought he could make it back to Combs-la-Ville before the rain started falling.
Standing on the sidewalk next to the street, Rue Montmartre, on one side and on the other side the set of two tall wooden doors at the base of the building which housed the offices of Le Carrefour, he looked at the watch on his right wrist. It was almost 2:15. He wanted to return home as quickly as possible. He hoped to stop at Pinto’s house, which was just four blocks away from his own house, to report on the meeting with Bénédicte. However, Sylvere didn’t hurry down the street in the direction of the train station, Châtelet–Les Halles. Instead he looked up at the sky again, recalling the words spoken to him by Bénédicte half an hour earlier.
“We will do everything we can to help Claudette,” Bénédicte had stated. “The process likely will be a long one,” she had added before looking across the table at her assistant. “Edwina will contact you on Monday for the rest of the information we need to open an asylum case,” Bénédicte had continued. Although Bénédicte had expressed her sympathies, she had explained that her organization did not have the ability to arrange immediate admission to France for Claudette despite the threats on her life in Congo.
The meeting had dashed his hopes. He had failed.
“It’s clear now,” Sylvere said out loud in Kikongo. “I will not be able to rescue Claudette from Congo and bring her to France in time.” Abruptly, Sylvere, a different thought entering his mind, removed his mobile phone from the pocket of his red windbreaker. He made a call. “Tell Jim not to accept the job offer from the company in Switzerland until I’ve had an opportunity to talk with him,” Sylvere said in Lingala when Josephine had answered. “I’ll be home by 4:30,” he added. He hung up. This time, still grasping his phone in one hand, he pushed his body as fast it would go through the streets leading to Châtelet–Les Halles.
When Sylvere arrived at the massive transit hub in the heart of Paris and made his way to the platform designated for the train to Combs-la-Ville, he stopped 20 feet away from a rectangular concrete structure to which a long plastic bench had been attached to each of the four sides of the structure. He could see as many as 30 people sitting on the benches or standing in front of them. As Sylvere brought his small phone up to his face and started to reply to the text message he had received from Pinto during lunch, his attention was caught by someone standing directly up the platform from him. Sylvere looked at the person.
Serge was looking back at him. Sylvere opened his mouth to speak. Then he closed it again. No, it was not Serge who was looking at him. The man, who bore a resemblance to Serge, flashed a smile at Sylvere before averting his gaze to a point somewhere down the tracks. Startled by the resemblance and reminded of the events from earlier in the day, Sylvere directed his attention back to his phone. He found the phone number he wanted. He dialed the number.
“Can you think of any reason Serge would be following me?” Sylvere said in Kikongo when Pinto had answered. Both men belonged to the Kongo ethnic group which originated in southwestern Congo. They had the same mother tongue. Also like Sylvere, Pinto had socialized with Serge at many events, both large and small, in the Congolese community over the years.
“Can you think of any reason Serge would be talking with Quentin?” Pinto replied, referring to the bodyguard of Anthony Lukambo, whose coltan and cassiterite mines in eastern Congo had made him a rich and powerful man at the expense of the lives of many other people. Pinto described how his wife, Bernadette, had overheard Serge and Quentin talking in an alley behind a Congolese market in Combs-la-Ville the previous day. “Meet me at my house tonight after dinner,” Pinto added. “I’ll be in my workshop in the back.”

The first drops of rain began hitting the pavement as Sylvere hurried along Rue Gustave Hervé in the old section, built in the 1970s, of Combs-la-Ville and came in sight of his house. He could feel the raindrops soaking through the thin sleeves of his red windbreaker and spreading across his skin. Then he could feel a different sensation through the worn fabric of his jacket. It was the vibration of his phone.
“Sylvere stopped on the side of the road next to a tall mulberry tree, removed his phone from the pocket of the red windbreaker, and looked at the caller ID information. He saw a number which included three characters, +49, indicating the country code of Germany. He didn’t recognize the number. But he answered.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Sylvere,” a woman said, speaking slowly in French, “we are prepared to help you transport Ms. Claudette from Goma, Congo, to Paris, France.” Sylvere realized he had heard the woman’s voice before. It belonged to the fifth contact and sole woman referred by Pinto. The woman continued: “We would like to invite you and Mr. Pinto to Tervuren, outside Brussels, to discuss our proposition. We understand the urgency of the situation. We will send a car for you tomorrow at noon. Please stand by for further details.”
The connection was cut.
Sylvere didn’t move, standing on the side of the road in the rain next to a mulberry tree while holding his phone to his ear. A car passed. A second car passed. A third car approached, its horn honking. Sylvere felt small streams of water running down his back, his legs, his whole body. He brought the phone down from his ear and started composing a text message.
“You came through,” Sylvere wrote in Kikongo. “We’re going to Brussels tomorrow.” He sent the message. Then he walked home.
