Intervention + Interpretation Feedback
I received useful feedback to help me make my next steps to complete the project
The wide font on the poster is a very dark green that almost looks black, which stands out too much from the poster, almost looks like a hidden message, make the green lighter
Develop the ‘7’ poster further, try creating it in different weights
Very cohesive and professional
The most exciting letter is the ‘e’, show it off
Can be used at a small pt size, could show that off more
Overall I think I need to make a couple final changed to my poster to help understanding and legibility, and alter my ‘36 Days of Type’ post to be more creative and visually interesting.

Week 7
I created my A3 pages to describe my brands motivations and method of problem solving for a 15-Minute City. I used a variety of flat designs and mock-up examples to portray my brand. I also created a map of the inside of an example property to explain where things might be places and how the sustainable smart home functions happen.

Week 7
I created a website page for a ‘buy’ screen. I indicated this by creating a button highlight over the word ‘buy’. I looked at rightmove’s website and their placement of buttons filters and properties to inspire my home sales website.

Week 7
I looked at what my pop up ad might look like on a web page. I positioned it on a rightmove screen, that could be a pop up for new featured properties.

Week 8
I printed my Process Book on G.F.Smith Naturalis paper double sided for perfect binding. Unfortunately after binding I saw there was an error in the printing where one of the page numbers missed a digit. I corrected it with pencil but unfortunately it is on my final print. I used the perfect binding method I learnt in a workshop earlier in the unit to bind my book. I then printed my front cover again with a larger spine width of 12cm as I realised my book was thicker than I had calculated.
Overall I was happy with the outcome of my binding. There is a small paint mark on the front cover from the bindery from the press or the trimmer. Unfortunately this was out of my control.

Week 8
I test printed my double page spread as I could not tell properly how the colours would come out by designing in CMYK. Some of the shades looked brighter than I wanted to on my laptop, so I test printed to check.
I saw that the bright green printed my desired shade, but the red printed pinkier than I wanted it too. I therefore changed my red to the darker maroon from my previous colour palette. I then printed this version and was much happier. I then also expanded my background colour and imagery out, and added bleed to my document settings for printing.
I printed on studio paper as my G.F.Smith Naturalis A3 paper also didn’t come on time due to Royal Mail Easter backlog. I was happy with this paper as it was very similar with a high quality satin feel.

Week 8
I used a Canon 5D IV from the equipment store with a 24-70mm lens to take photos of my final outcome for the ‘Judge a Book by it’s Cover’ brief. I took photos in the photo studio.
I have included 3 unedited photos at the shop to show the visual difference before and after. I used Photoshop to edit my photos. I adjusted the brightness and contrast, and used the eraser tool with hardness at 0 to remove any dark unwanted shadows without leaving any harsh lines. I then added a beige background. I did this by creating a beige block and setting the opacity to 35% so the shadows the book created would show through. I then drew around the book with a pen tool, and made it into a path, and erased this object from the beige block. This left the picture with the illusion the book was placed on a beige background. I did this as I felt a warmer tone background complimented the book pages better, and made the book stand out from the background better.
I was really pleased with how these photos came out and how the flash showed off the shimmer of the gold pen finish. Unfortunately, by creasing the spine of my book by opening the pages for photos, left some crease marks and cracks in some of the printing on the spine.

Week 8
I exported my book cover with crop marks and bleed and printed them. Unfortunately the paper I had planned to use from G.F.Smith with the textured quality, did not arrive on time due to Royal Mail Easter backlog. Instead I used a thick white card from the college shop, and darkened the colour of the background, to make up for the lighter card.
I perfect bound it using the perfect binding machine in the maker room with the support of Ben.
Following this I reflected upon my previous investigation into Hot Foiling to when I determined this wasn’t a possible finishing technique for this project due to the cost and time. I looked at acrylic gold pens and tested painting over some of my golden printed type and liked the shimmery outcome. On my final book, I went over the gold areas with gold acrylic marker, to give a shimmer finish which I was really happy with. The marking was a bit imperfect on the spine and smaller type, but overall I was much happier with this finish, as I feel it brought these areas to life and made my cover more eye-catching.

Week 8
I designed my cover for my process book using an approximated spine width of 11cm based on my amount of pages.
On my front cover I have called my process book ‘Portfolio’ with the text ‘LVL_4″ to represent my level of study being level 4. I have also included the text ‘VC_IC1′ so initialise ‘Visual Communication in Context 1′ the unit title. I have also included my name for reference. I added the unit name and my level on the spine as an additional design feature.
I wanted the back cover to be simple to not distract from the book and to keep with the minimalist design. I decided that using a splat texture from the front cover, and project first pages linked well with the theme, and also visually looked good.

Week 8
I developed my process book for my 3rd brief ‘There’s an App for That’, implementing consistent design features from my ‘Food Types’ and ‘Judge a Book by it’s Cover’ process book pages.
I also included my evaluation and bibliography as my ending pages.
