Who has the better comebacks? Narasen x Voranoix

Voranoix certainly possesses the quick wit and the glib tongue to pull off fantastic comebacks. He also isn't nearly as touchy as Narasen to real or perceived insults, as well as being more discerning as to what actually needs to be addressed directly.

Narasen'll just shank a motherfucker.

MiqoMarch #30 - Winter

Occasionally, when their yearly business in Ishgard concluded, Narasen asked Voranoix to accompany her through the Coerthas Highlands just to enjoy cold air and snow. Living in La Noscea, she’d almost forgotten what winter felt like.

6. Bandaging wounds/cleaning up after battle

Her hands never started trembling until after she'd done what healing she could, bandaging what needed time to fully mend, washing away blood and sweat from his skin. And once he let out that very particular sigh of relief, turning to lay a large hand over her knee and smile reassuringly, the trembling began.

Narasen's naturally pale complexion lost what little shading it had, leaving her chalky, and she clenched her hands together. Breath hitching, she swallowed hard before turning wide violet eyes to her husband.

He didn't hesitate, despite the pain lingering beneath the numbing salve and the cooling aether of her healing. Voranoix pulled her onto his lap, catching her jaw in one hand. His river blue gaze sought hers, held it as he stroked a thumb across her cheekbone. "I am here, Nara," he murmured. "I am right here."

She cut off the next whispered reassurance, straining upwards towards him, and his next murmur was breathed into her mouth before he tangled his fingers in her snowy hair.

MiqoMarch #21 - Love

It felt, briefly, like a betrayal when she told Voranoix she’d change nothing of her past simply for the opportunity to be his. Only briefly. Gazing into his eyes left no room in her heart for anything but the joy of love given and received.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about their partner? Do they remember every little detail they mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

With all of Narasen's history considered, it's not particularly surprising to her very small social circle that she is ridiculously attentive to memorizing every possible detail she can about her husband, Voranoix.

His scent, his silhouette, his voice, his walk, his laugh... She knows all of them intimately and strives to know everything else with as much accuracy.

It isn't necessarily a conscious effort, but more that Voranoix soothes her nerves and makes Narasen feel safe in a way she's never known. For that reason, everything about him eases her and she pays attention to that.

What does this character like and dislike about themselves?

Chessi dislikes being stupid. She can't truly imagine that anyone would like being stupid, and so she doesn't think about that very often. When asked, however, it's the first thing she says.

"I would really like to be smart. Being stupid is bad for everybody around me."

And that one trait colored her entire perception of herself for the majority of her life. Only recently, with the love and support of her adoptive parents and her 'they don't have a name for it but they're definitely An Item' partner Sezra'tan, has Chessi begun to think of herself in positive terms.

"I am quick to help! Sezra says it, Voranoix says it, Narasen says it. And they all say it with that tone that means they really mean it and they're not just being nice because they don't want to upset me!"

What is this character most passionate about?

Her family.

Chessi grew up with a single living blood relative, and heard often about how she only had Les, everyone else had died. She didn't have a family, she had her uncle and that would never change.

"No one loves stupid women."

Discovering that people could love stupid women brought untold joy to Chessi's life. When Voranoix L'espoir took her under his wing, he changed every part of her life in a single fell swoop. He showed her stained glass! He took her to pretty locations! He introduced her to his beautiful beloved!

And then...! His beloved let her stay! Trusted her with their newborn son, Noix'a! Even took her with them when Narasen and Voranoix decided to move to La Noscea. They gave her a room of her own! In the house!

Meeting Sezra'tan, being considered a friend of his... And then becoming his lover! And figuring out that sex could be fun...!

She never imagined that life could hold so much happiness for her, that she'd one day have someone to call "my mother" or "my little brother"... that she'd be able to open a front door and be welcomed in by those inside.

Anything her family needs is theirs, without question or hesitation. They mean everything to her.

Which OCs that are not yours do you most admire? What is it about that character that you find impressive or engaging?

Um, okay. *deep breath*

Seifer d'Latu -- yes, it's my husband's character, but that's not the only reason! (He has other characters that aren't my favorites!) Seifer very, very clearly comes across with a powerful sense of self that I genuinely think comes from Sev having played the character for decades. {As someone who has chronic altitis, I don't think a character has to be a "main" or written for 20+ years to be good, but the development of personality and writing style that Sev has built up for a couple of decades sure doesn't hurt!}

He's also a fantastic villain who never bothers lying about his intentions, but seems… able to just… slide that right past people? I can't COUNT the number of female characters who happily followed Seifer to the d'Latu home and were shocked to not only meet his wife, but also at his disinterest in bedding them. Like they just… didn't listen when Seifer clearly told them he only wanted to fuck with their heads. It's genuinely amazing.

And Seifer I find particularly interesting because he's not the evil overlord who wants to rule the world. He's best suited to and enjoys being an advisor to the throne (so to speak) and was originally designed to be an enforcer to someone with a greater degree of power. It's rather rare to run into a villain character that isn't either The Leader or aiming to be The Leader and I genuinely enjoy how Seifer works into that role. (And how he works the role itself, he's just… such a delight to engage with.)

There are a LOT of characters I've had the pleasure of engaging with that are just marvelous. Voranoix L'espoir (one of my top fifteen RP characters ever tbh), Zale Bolton, Lupus Lynx, Thravnar Ravensun, Sezra'tan Entialpoh, Targur Steelfist, Wisteria… (Why are none of them active on Tumblr, you ask? Because the Irony Gods love to poke me with sticks.)

However, there are also a whole lot of characters I've never been able to RP with (usually because of anxiety/lack of time/lack of IG availability) that I find fascinating to read about.

@luck-and-larceny's Malika and @dumb-hat's Evander both fall in my top tier. Not only are they well-rounded characters with depth--obvious when you just scroll through a very few pieces of writing--but they're also FUNNY. And characters written with humor--both as from the reader's perspective as well as the character themself--are so, so rare. I LOVE funny characters and I love it when authors/players don't take themselves so seriously that they can't laugh at their characters or themselves. It genuinely makes the serious moments of character reflection feel more important when there's a contrast.

Basically everything @gatheredfates writes. Throw @riftdancing in there because they give each other some truly admirable support and cheer each other on. (It's beautiful to see.) There's… just the sense of WEIGHTY backstory in everything they do and reading their snippets, seeing their screenshots, I feel the same way I do when listening to "Jenny of Oldstones" written for Game of Thrones. Which is to say that there's a whole world they've created I'm getting a glimpse of and I'd dearly love to see more.

While I love @kuro8529's "black snack" (:D), his Viera Fakhri (on @gray-morality ) and @catscratching's Seda have a solid story built up, not only between them but also separately, so when I read either of them writing, I get a glimpse of the HOURS it took to painstakingly build this mutually satisfying story that has so much further that it can go.

@ofcruelghosts -- I love the noir aesthetic, the writing style and the very concept. I can genuinely feel the inspiration from the pieces and I'd love to see the character in even more scenes.

@bloodpoetry-lytharp -- Hi, have you read about Lytha? You should. Not only that, but you should read the other characters @erithe writes because she has an amazing grasp of style, character development and plot. (She's also one of the best people I've ever known.)

@mirugaidoesthings -- Dayar, ofc, I love because not only is he old enough I can thirst after the character without feeling like a perv, but also because he's written so pleasantly, so casually that it's like catching up with an old friend only to find out they killed a tiger with their bare hands at 15. You do a LOT of "WHA??" and it's amazing. Miru is a miraculously talented writer and a wonderful person.

✨ = How important is family to your muse?

HUGELY important. It's impossible, actually, to overstate the importance of family to Chessi.

Largely because until very recent years, she had none.

Chessi's family--thanks to poverty, drought, and the Seventh Umbral Calamity--died, leaving only she and her uncle Les. He raised her (in an extremely abusive and exploitive way) and reminded her, over and over again, that he was all she had.

In his words, she'd never have anyone love her because "nobody loves stupid women, Chessi."

Much to her delight, Les proved to be very wrong. (And is now also very dead.) Not only did she meet Voranoix, but because of his fatherly concern, she got a mother, too. The L'espoirs unofficially "adopted" Chessi, providing her with parents and a baby brother. And through that stability, she met Sezra.

Now Chessi has parents. She has a sibling, and hopes for more. She has Sezra. And she even has Narasen's extended family to claim, as the Shirogane Kyhos know Chessi and are fond of her.

She would do anything for them. Without question, without hesitation, without thought of self or safety. If it meant going against her morals, putting herself in danger, even giving up her life, Chessi would do it immediately and absolutely. Her family is everything to her and she will never stop being deeply grateful that they do, despite everything she was taught growing up, love a stupid woman.

They took mini-vacations often, little escapes from the house and family to enjoy time together, far from every possible reminder of the past.
