came here to say at least we know how it all ends and there's no uncertainty. like buttons is just a bird now. we don't have to wonder if they were ever going to explain that lol. the finality is sad but sort of refreshing.

yeah and while it's sad the story didn't finish the way David wanted it to, the open ending leaves so much room for fics to fill in? Like we can go nuts?

And the thing is, people always ask why the fandom is so into AUs and the answer is simple: the canon is just that good. It doesn't make fic writers feel like they need to add much (short of a couple moments).

The show was brilliant while it lasted and we can build up vast universes from it, branching off to god knows where but hopefully someplace beautiful.
