How do web apps work??

when someone wants to browse the internet they go to a browser and type whatever address the want then they press enter. technically what happens here is that the browser use a protocol to send a request to the server where the desired website lives, asking to upload its pages. after the server gets the request it replies in its turn by sending the required pages to the browser, which executes the files in order to display something to the user. then of course the user can visually interact with the website, and the website also react to the users’ inputs.

so basically there are 2 processes working simultaneously in web applciation:

- the first one is the program that lives in the browser and interacts with users (client-server code).

--- languages used include HTML, CSS, and Javascript, and that is all.

--- parsed by the user’s browser.

--- reacts to user input.

--- can be seen and edited by the user in full.

--- cannot store anything that lasts beyond a page refresh.

--- cannot read files off of a server directly, must communicate via HTTP requests.

- second one is the program that dwells on the server and takes care of HTTP requests coming from browsers (server-side code)

--- languages/frameworks used includ Ruby (Rails), Javascript (Node.js), Python (Django), PHP, C#, and Java; but the list of possibilities is infinite. Any code that can run on a computer and respond to HTTP requests can run a server.

--- stores persistent data (user profiles, instatweets, mybook pages, etc.).

--- cannot be seen by the user (unless something is terribly wrong). Can only respond to HTTP requests for a particular URL, not any kind of user input.

--- creates the page that the user finally sees (this is generally only true in web applications that choose to render most of their layouts on the server).
