what is it about being a customer that makes people lose the ability to use their heads
#self scan is where the brave are separated from the foolish#Guy needed a basket so what he does is ignore the stack of baskets just down the aisle#& take everything out of a full basket of stuff that needs to be reshelved and puts it all on the ground.#Okay. Fucking thank you#& Somebody abandoned their checkout with a billion things scanned and it wasn’t letting me suspend the whole thing#so i had to cancel every individual item#and of course i can’t just stand around doing that so i was doing it when i had a chance#so the till is opened up to show ppl it’s out of service#& i turn my back what happens.#Some fucking shit for brains goes scanning all his shit with the till clearly out of service#giving me more shit to cancel#And to make matters worse i saw my creepy ex coworker.#And of course he had a billion problems with his checkout so i couldn’t avoid him#Ifs always the four hour shifts that are the hardest…

Cape Fear (1991)
"Let's get something straight here. I spent fourteen years in an eight by nine cell, surrounded by people who were less than human. My mission in that time was to become more than human. You see? Granddaddy used to handle snakes in church, Granny drank strychnine. I guess you could say I had a leg up, genetically speaking."
#cape fear#1991#american cinema#martin scorsese#wesley strick#john d. macdonald#robert de niro#nick nolte#jessica lange#juliette lewis#joe don baker#robert mitchum#gregory peck#martin balsam#illeana douglas#fred thompson#zully montero#james r. webb#elmer bernstein#freddie francis#Scorsese fully channelling de Palma for this queasy Southern gothic remake of a beloved bit of Americana kino. this was actually meant to#be a Spielberg project (yeesh can you imagine?) but Marty traded him Schindler's List which worked out better for everyone. initial#reaction to seeing Marty's right hand arm de Niro as the antagonist was‚ admittedly‚ to snigger but give the man his dues he fully embodies#this grotesque‚ repellent boogeyman. crucially tho he has the seed of a genuine grievance against Nolte's (also fairly unlikeable) lawyer#lead and i think that's what really propels this script. the film is stacked with great performances‚ with a young J Lewis really#standing out in a layered and thoughtful performance. the cameos by prev Cape Fear stars are perhaps a tiny bit gratuitous (and it's kind#of sad that Peck's final role was little more than a brief meta injoke) but i get why and it doesn't detract too much from the film‚#particularly once it lurches full throttle into a biblical tinged flood and fire apocalypse for the (very well executed) final act#ott stuff and boundary pushing not just in its freakier moments but in its commitment to underscoring tension with moments of near pure#comedy‚ but i had a great time with this. oh and what a score! i mean i think it's just a re arrangement of the og score but still it slaps

what if we just got rid of the mystery dungeon and tactical rpg aspects and just made the whole infinite world series tales-style
says man who picked up his zestiria save file from 2019 and enjoyed 45 minutes of grinding through the water shrine and relearning controls before losing terribly.
yeah skill issue
#to be fair it's been soooo long#okay like everyone has crazy skill stacks on their equipment and they're all level 40-41#so presumably i was going for each seraph being a specialist in.... something#BUT LOOKING AT ZESTIRIA'S SKILL CHART AFTER SO LONG MADE ME GO ???????????#LIKE IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE TO ME WHEN I'M IN FULL HYPERFOCUS MODE#but when it's been THIS LONG#I'M LIKE... Why do i do this to myself?
Currently sleeving my entire bulk collection and putting it into color coded binders because I need to have my entire collection sleeved and organized for some reason
#i think this might be where my autism shows#im not normally a list making autistic#but i do also have all the contents of the binders in their own lists so i can keep track of my stock for trades and such#i have it as specific as which cards are foils or not#i use manabox for it all but its still such a long manual process#but one i am determined to see to the end cause its SO SATISFYING to see all these cards in organized binders alphabetical by mana cost#and also it makes deckbuilding easier cause i can flip through my binders and skim what im looking for#or at least it will once i get it all finished#i’m organizing number 3 of 7 binders#4 of 7 if you include the price binder in that which is constantly being updated#oh mannnn but this will be SOOOOO worth it i swear#also slotting them in the binder and then feeling how thick the pages are is so satisfying#my entire stack of binders right now weighs like 25 pounds#so i can only imagine how thick theymll be when full

I think I'm starting to get a reputation at work as someone who is like, a little weird, a little stuffy, a little oddly into research and books in general...
Which is very funny, seeing as I work in a library.
#UNIVERSITY LIBRARY. ACADEMIC LIBRARY#I picked up two books from the free to take home stack on like. power structures and the urban/rural divide in the middle ages#and my boss was side eyeing me like 'this is what you're into'?#mate YOU work full time at an archaeology library. I haven't been active in the byler fandom, why would redditors be mad at the play being canon?
Most, not all, but most active reddit users on the ST sub have been bombarded with byler evidence for the last year. So to remain sane through it all, they have resorted to insisting that almost every detail fans come across and try to share on the sub, are just mere coincidences.
This is because they've realized that if they are considering other really minor details meaning something bigger, that means they might have to start considering the possibility that the details pointing to byler are also intentional. This is how they cope.
You would think after saying 'it's just a coincidence' for the hundredth time, they might be starting to rethink their position on things, but the reality of the situation just isn't setting in I guess (aka they don't want it to happen so they are refusing to let themselves truly consider it until they have no choice).
The reason I still partake in the reddit sub, despite losing braincells over half the takes on there, is bc there are still a handful of users that are really smart and do great analysis on the supernatural side of the show, in particular things I have no knowledge on at all and would greatly benefit from looking at to expand my understanding of things and different perspectives.
The really smart ones that exist are usually indifferent to the romantic arcs in the show, although they do have a milkvan bias bc the straight bait is straight baiting. And so these are the few posts theorizing, that consider the details meaning something more, that just so happen to get support from the hardcore milkvans on there. And it's bc as long as it's coming from someone who doesn't think byler is going to happen, they will listen.
I will say the one thing that is sort of obnoxious about all of this is that regular fans without any ship bias, will pop on there semi-regularly with a post, accompanied by basic common sense questions like, 'wait this makes no sense...' or 'why did they do this this way?' in many cases, with the confusion surrounding the build up of Mike and El and Will's role in all that. These people aren't milkvans or bylers, they are just fans picking up on obvious subtext and they are looking for insight about it from fans. And every time they get bombarded with condescending and bitter milkvans that are having to defend mike and el's honor, and s4 really made this a full time job for them lmao. That sort of resentment has manifested into hating anything and everything that considers deeper meaning in relation to Will and Mike, but especially in Will's case. Because that's the thing, they have to deny any importance of Will's role bc Will being important fucking terrifies them. It means that everything could be important basically. It's their worst nightmare and they will hound you for even speculating something. It's insufferable to watch unfold honestly.
I say all of this bc it's important in the context of the play, given that there are a lot of theories out there swirly around, theories that mostly reside on Tumblr. Many of those theories are viewed by redditors as being crack theories that have no evidence supporting them (bc they come from bylers), like the weirdness around Alice not being in the play (and potentially connecting to Karen), or the fact that they insisted the silhouette of Henry's actor right before the cast announcement couldn't be him bc he was too old to be Henry (umm time shenanigans, duh), or that the truth about Brenner's involvement runs a lot deeper than everyone assumes.
And so naturally, leading up to the play, a lot of active (very vocal) redditors in both the main sub and the Hawkins AV Club sub, have commented on posts related to the play, trying so hard to convince others (themselves) that this play is not canon and we shouldn't waste our time with it because it wont matter in the context of everything going on in the literal show. They go as far as to insist it's not canon, even though it already was said to be canon.
And now with this post, they are again having to face the reality this show is a lot deeper than they have had to insist it to is combat byler speculation. All byler evidence is seen as reaching to them. And they'll do everything they can to insist anything bylers are speculating is delusional, which includes theories surrounding the play. All of that denial has led us to this moment, which will only hurt their ego as time goes on and they are being hit with sign after sign after sign... that it might just be that deep.
#byler#stranger things#the first shadow#'it's not that deep you guys'#'ya'll are reaching'#what's your favorite milkvan argument?#mine is 'the duffer's aren't that smart guys'#truly never gets old#oh so you're saying endgame byler would be smart... you said it not me.#not trying to make this about byler but i did#bc full serious... before byler was even a thought in reddits head back in s1-2... they fucking loved theories#i can go find theories from 6 years ago about twelvegate and owlgate and birthdaygate and dozens more all bc they were open to everything!!#critical thinking is not encouraged on there anymore#anything considering possibilities based on literal evidence is going to be shot 9 times out of ten#bc all of those details have always been hinting at something they do not want to accept#the details are stacked against them#and their time is running out it seems#can't wait for this play to drop and it starts to set in that plenty of details they refuted tirelessly were actually hinting at something

its been 7 hours in the poll so far and i saw the who ppl want to win coming but i wasnt expecting the who they think will win ngl, like i was expecting it to be a little more even but nope lol
#< jic#wanted to keep my opinion to myself until the poll ended to prevent influence or whatever but realized that was stupid so here it is#personally i want zam to win but i think theyll come to a stalemate#i want zam to win causeas cute as it would be to give zam a redemption arc and esp by minute of all ppl i just dont like that idea very muc#i want his redemption arc if he ever decides to have one to be long and gruelling and full of setbacks and last for seasons#i want him to keep failing and building himself back up and all over again through the influence of multiple ppl and experiences#i dont want it to start and end all cause of one guy#and with ppl as stubborn as those two it would not surprise me if they reached a stalemate#esp since they seem to have completely incongruent mindsets regarding the nature of lifesteal#identical yet opposites those two#zam may think hes more determined than minute but i dont think thats true i think theyre a lil more even#like not to bring up kings but they both went looking for nether fortresses for hours in the first session#they both kept farming and grinding even when the odds are stacked against them#even when they lose hope they keep going anyway for that tiny sliver of a chance that Something happens#like theres a reason minute looked up to him in s3 and i think its cause he saw a lil bit of himself in zam#or at least what he could be if he set his mind to it#but honestly i dont really care who wins or loses that much#all i ask is that the season ends in an interesting way regardless of if its in peace or chaos#characterwise; plotwise; possibly even metawise#just give me something to chew on and ill be happy#lifesteal spoilers#mine.txt#my posts

k babes reblog and tell me about the books on your nightstand (or wherever you stack books by your bed if you don't have a nightstand) what are they why are they there etc
#currently I have a copy of Jane Eyre full of colourful flag tabs I'm referencing for Jane Eyre Monster Hunter#House of Leaves which I forgot I was properly reading this time#the remnants of a stack I put there a while back bc I didn't know what book I'd feel like in the morning which includes:#circe by madeleine miller and glenarvon by caro lamb and wild magic by tamora pierce#also twilight in French and Spanish paired with 501 French Verbs 501 Spanish Verbs a Spanish dictionary and a Spanish thesaurus#which I forgot I was working through to try to nail down verb tenses#I'm getting good at the conditional vs subjunctive varieties in Spanish but French verb tenses are so absurd#also a little handbound book of poetry we wrote during The Trauma Days(tm) which I just printed and bound this weekend#it probably isn't great poetry but it has some banger lines and typesetting it triggered me so it's absolutely accomplishing it's intent#(I mean triggering me wasn't the goal but capturing the absolute surreal helpless ragey horrible fascinating experience was)#(and if it triggered me I'd say it did that)#oh and the sparrow on my other table which I've read half of and then I thought it was about to get More Sad and chickened out#and haven't steeled myself to finish yet

I did my first grandmaster quest in osrs tonight :)
#I decided to just play some runescape to chill out with after infinite wealth but this was not very chill :P#I had exactly zero doses of my healing and restore potions and was very close to using my emergancy teleport with the boss at 50 hp left#Glad I didn't cuz those potions cost way too much to restock frequently xD#Think one full inventory of 6 super restores and 20 sara brews costs around 350k#That's a good 2-3 hours of money making for me depending what I feel like doing#I also spent about 4.5million gold on getting the better trident and a mage necklace#So my cash stack is not looking very healthy right now xD#I got all the way up to the final 3 fights a few nights ago but didn't have the money to get enough supplies#I did die to the final boss 1 time tonight and nearly lost my stuff trying to get back and fell down a pit 5 times in a row xD

Ani Reviews: Hellstrip Gardening
Alrighty homies here's another Informal Book Review. This is the second time I've done a book review, but I hope this is helpful!

[Photo ID: a book, titled "Hellstrip Gardening: Create a paradise between the sidewalk and the curb" by Evelyn J. Hadden (Author of Beautiful No-Mow Yards) With photographs by Joshua McCullough, Foreword by Lauren Springer Ogden]
Out of the seven books I checked out from the library this round, I picked this one second because not only was I looking forward to the read, but so were some friends in my gardening server! Its one of, if not the longest book in the stack--the main contents are 279 pages total--but its definitely well worth the read! You can see where I live blogged it here.
The inspiration and energy in this book is potent! By the time I finished reading the foreword and the introduction, I was already dreaming up new gardening projects to work on next spring, and that energy stayed up all the way until the end! It definitely helps that the photos in this book are absolutely gorgeous! Seriously, even if you aren't wanting to make a front yard garden, I'd recommend this book for cool garden photos alone! This is another one of those books that's way more relevant if you're the home owner, or a landscaper (or just got permission from your parents to do some front yard gardening), but even still so much of the advice in this book is great for just about any kind of gardening as well! Between beautiful photos of front yard gardens others have already done, tons of encouragement and advice on how to handle anything from trees to poor soils to outdated laws and HOA boards, and a deluge of plant recommendations for different grow zones and purposes, it's definitely a valuable resource!
After the introduction, this book is separated into four major sections referred to as Parts. There's Inspirations, Situations, Creation, and Curbside-Worthy Plants. If you're looking for ideas on what a converted yard can look like, Inspirations and Creation is the place to go. If you're unsure how to do so with any specific circumstances you may be facing, Situations is the section for you. So on and so forth. All in all, between the gorgeous photos, and the amazing content, this was a fairly quick read for me!
I will say, this is a book aimed directly for gardeners in the US. While some of the general advice might be good for people abroad, at the end of the day its a book written in an American perspective for gardeners in America. That being said, it focuses on America as a whole--so if you're hoping for a dedicated section on how to do what you want in your state specifically, you might get lucky, you might get unlucky. I know the example garden for my state wasn't anything I'd be excited about, meanwhile there's three sample gardens for Minnesota (two in Minneapolis) and there's only twelve sample gardens in the book! Also, if you're looking for a book to tell you to only ever use native plants in your garden, this isn't the one--the book will eagerly encourage you use native plants, and will implore you to remove any invasive plants that may be on your property, but is also more than welcome to recommending well behaved non-native plants. Let it be known that I don't think this is a problem at all! But if you're picky about that, I'm just letting that be known.
Oh and also one final note. The book is called Hellstrip Gardening, and it does talk about hellstrips, but it doesn't only talk about hellstrips. A good chunk of the example gardens don't even have hellstrips. This book talks plenty about full yard transformation! Which I find fantastic and enlightening! If you're looking for a book that's only about hellstrips, though, this isn't it.
All in all, this is an amazing book with amazing photos, 10/10 could probably show to someone to get them to see the light of front yard gardens.
#ani reviews#ani rambles#out of queue#hellstrip gardening#I think another cool thing about this book is that it--albeit briefly--addresses some of the fears people might have about converted yards#like it doesn't go into full detail about all of them but it at least acknowledges it#which is honestly better than what a lot of articles i've read or the other book I've read in this stack have done#and granted the info they gave about alleviating tick fears isn't anything I haven't heard off a headspace hotel post#but it is nice to see it acknowledged in a published work!#still not sure if I would be able to convince My Mom to do something like this#because outside of 'wide paths' it gives no advice about Snakes and thats probably my mom's biggest concern outside of 'yard is lawn is gra#and my previous google search attempts yielded Nothing Helpful in that front#but thats less of a flaw of the book itself and more of a 'hurdle i personally gotta figure out'#i am getting off topic lets end the tags here gbye
