[CISMALE, HE/HIM]. Hey, is that MICHAEL B. JORDAN, no that is just ZACHARIAH AVERY around Turtle Bay. I heard they are 33 years old, and their birthday is JANUARY 15TH, 1990. They rest their heads in the OCEANSIDE but they can mainly be found working as POLICE DETECTIVE. Some say they are CHARMING, HARDWORKING, PERSUASIVE and can be SERIOUS, UNFORGIVING, STUBBORN. BIO:
Growing up Zachariah Avery had everything he could ever wish for. He was surrounded by a warm and loving family, was well liked by his peers, and never wanted for anything. Sure his dad could be strict but Zach knew that they were Avery's and that meant there was a certain image they were expected to uphold. A reputation to protect Not only were they one of the founding families of Turtle Bay they were a black family in a predominately white town which Zachariah learned from a young age came with added scrutiny. As the oldest Zach took it upon himself to take care of his siblings and make sure they knew what was expected of them, often causing some friction particularly between he and Isaiah but Zachariah assured his siblings it was for their own interest. As a result, as they grew older Zach and his sister Ashanti remained close while Zach and his brother Isaiah grew further and further apart. Zay was far too lazy and selfish in Zachariah’s, opinion always putting himself and his desires before the family.
School was easy for Zach. He worked hard and got good grades, had a great group of friends, and played both basketball and soccer. From the time he was little Zachariah always knew he wanted to follow in his family’s footsteps. He respected the men that his father and his uncle Marcus had grown into and hoped that law enforcement would do the same for him. He had planned to join the police force right out of High School but his parents asked him to get a college degree first.
Zach settled on the University of North Carolina. It had a great criminal justice program and was close enough that he could still keep tabs on his family or make it home for family gatherings. It was during his senior year that Zachariah met Nicole Sunitha. She was in his criminal law class and he was immediately taken with her the moment he saw her walk through the door on the first day of class. As luck would have it they were paired together on a group project and Zach quickly fell for her intelligence in addition to her beauty. She was the full package. She challenged Zach for what felt like the first time in his life and it wasn't long before he fell in love.
The pair began dating and spent every moment they could get with each other, often wrapped in each other's arms. They had a beautiful love affair but as Zach's graduation rapidly approached he came to terms with the fact that they would never last. He had to return home to Turtle Bay and she had a couple years of classes left to take. He hadn't been home long when Nicole informed him that she was pregnant.
Zach knew how poorly this would reflect on his family if the word ever got out so he kept the whole thing a secret, only turning to his Aunt Carrie for advice. Zach had seen his daughter a few times over the years but mostly stuck to monetary support sending Nicole money every month and doing his best to support little Olivia from afar. He's managed to keep this quiet so far but in the back of Zach's mind he's always worried that one day his biggest secret could come to light and ruin his families reputation, one he's worked tirelessly to uphold, once and for all.

The Oscars were held on April 25. It was a bit of a yawner and why would a show set themselves up for an awkward end?? There was a commercial from P&G right before the broadcast that stated, “ Widen the screen so we can widen our view.” Nice sentiment.  Mank had so many noms and only 2 wins. People looking their best to me were Leslie Odom Jr., Glenn Close, Riz Ahmed, LaKeith Stanfield, Colman Domingo, John Batiste, Mia Neal, Questlove (gold crocs and a mask!), Desmond Roe, Travon Free, Trish Summerville, Marlee Matlin, The Lucas Brothers, Andra Day, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Nicolette Robinson, Regina King and Margot Robbie. Laura Dern looked like Big Bird, there were just too many feathers. Tiara Thomas had feathers but they looked great.  Angela Bassett had some power sleeves and Tyer Perry looked like a little boy.  Hooray for Emerald Fennell for her win for original screenplay but not sure about the dress. And Viola Davis?? Dana Murray?? Ashley Fox?? Hmm?? Winners seemed to have trouble getting to the stage. They often refused the steps or the walkway and sort of climbed up the side. I did love the intimate setting and it did remind me of the old clips of years before. Sound of metal and Ma Rainey both won. Tyler Perry and for the first time, an organization, the motion picture and television fund, took home the humanitarian award. I was thrilled to see My Octopus Teacher win for Doc. I loved Crip Camp too, that was a hard category.  The acting winners went in all directions.  Many critics complained that the films were real downers . Nomadland won best picture. Michael Moore put it best I think. Of the films this year, he said, “They force you to look backward with 2021 eyes.”

so it’s been a year. that’s in-fucking-sane. if you didn’t know, 8 letters was my starter. like, that’s how i got into why don’t we. more accurately when 8 letters itself came out, i saw the video, and the album followed a few days later. these boys have taken over my brain, and i wouldn’t want it any other way. it’s so crazy to think we’ve come full circle and just 3 days ago i saw them live (which i’m compiling a video of the best moments for). corbyn, daniel, jack, jonah, zach, if you can hear me, don’t stop now. you’ve come so far and you’ve got a whole world to encapture the same way you caught me. and if i could give you everything you gave to me, i’d do it in a heartbeat. but what you gave to me is endless, priceless, limitless, whatever you call it. so for now, i’d like to give you back one thing.
same three words.
same 8 letters.
i love you.

IT’S TIME TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR, INSTITUTE STYLE!
Remember those drink request that you sent in? If you thought the Administration just wanted to make sure there was enough to go around...then you’ve never been to an Institute party before. Our mischief making witches somehow got a hold of the drink list, and wrecked their usual havoc on everyone’s night. Here are the spells that will plague our party-goers. Whatever drink you sent in, that is the spell that you will be under for the duration of the event:
Beer: Gender Bender. Your muse finds their gender has changed, both in mind and body.
Wine: In Vino Veritas. Your character is under the effects of a truth spell, and finds themselves spilling their guts to everyone they meet.
Champagne: Liquid Confidence. Your muse’s confidence level switches to the opposite end of the spectrum. Confident characters are rendered insecure; insecure characters become bold and self-assured.
Non-Alcoholic: Designated Driver. So your muse was staying sober tonight, huh? Looks like it didn’t work out. Your muse is wildly, magically intoxicated. They’ve lost all their inhibitions, and they’re acting on all kinds of wild impulses. Good luck.
Whiskey: Drunk In Love. Your muse doesn’t know what’s come over them, but suddenly they’re falling in love with everyone they see. Everyone is just so wonderful, it’s a wonder they didn’t realize before.
Spiked Cider: Thirst Quencher. Your muse is hit with a powerful lust spell. They are suddenly desperately aroused and looking for satisfaction.
Fun huh? Just a few reminders: The event will run from 11:59 Thursday December 27, through 11:59 Sunday December 30. As always, we ask that any non-event threads be on pause while the event is in progress. Please use theinstituteevent tag for your starters, and please be mindful of others starters and do not post over any empty ones. And, we know everyone wants to show off their New Year’s finest, and we want to see them! But in order to not clog the event tag and make starters harder to find, please use theinstitutemasquerade tag only for your outfits. Just in case anyone needs it, under the cut you will find the drinks that were sent in. Have fun!

Red Sox favored hosting Yankees in Thursday series opener
Tumblr media
The Boston Red Sox host the New York Yankees in a critical series starting on Thursday night, with the sportsbooks siding with the home side for the opener.
The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees has been about as even as can be in recent seasons with the two teams splitting their last 20 meetings 10-10 apiece.
With the Yankees currently trailing the Red Sox by 5.5 games for the lead in the AL East, Boston hosts its hated rival on Thursday night in the first game of an important four-game series.
Boston is a -130 home favorite in the series opener at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Brian Johnson gets the start for the Red Sox squaring off against CC Sabathia and the Yankees as +120 underdogs.

Boston Red Sox
Chris Sale was originally slated to start this game before hitting the 10-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation. Fortunately for the Red Sox, their ace pitcher isn’t expected to miss much time with this mild injury and could be back as soon as his next scheduled start.
Boston missed out on the opportunity to bolster its bullpen during the trade deadline, but did add some offensive depth with the acquisition of Ian Kinsler and an extra arm for the starting rotation in Nathan Eovaldi.
Brian Johnson has been excellent as a spot starter in four starts this month with a 1.80 ERA over that stretch. Despite not surrendering an earned run in each of his two starts since the all-star break, though, Johnson has led the Red Sox to two straight losses.
New York Yankees
The Yankees were in dire need of starting pitching depth behind Luis Severino, and they went out and got some by adding JA Happ and Lance Lynn to the rotation. New York also picked up an experienced arm for the bullpen in left-hander Zach Britton.
Already boasting the best power-hitting offense in the majors, the Yankees now look a lot more dangerous after these improvements. New York is just 4-9 in its last 13 games as a betting underdog.
Thursday night’s total is set at 10 runs. The UNDER is 10-3 in Boston’s last 13 games according to the OddsShark MLB Database.
After these four games, Boston and New York have two series remaining against each other in September. Luis Severino faces off against Rick Porcello on Friday, JA Happ takes on Nathan Eovaldi on Saturday and Masahiro Tanaka meets David Price in the series finale on Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens
Draft Picks:
South Carolina TE Hayden Hurst (No. 25 overall), Louisville QB Lamar Jackson (No. 32 overall), Oklahoma OT Orlando Brown (No. 83 overall), Oklahoma TE Mark Andrews (No. 86 overall), Alabama CB Anthony Averett (No. 118 overall), UCLA LB Kenny Young (No. 122 overall), New Mexico State WR Jaleel Scott (No. 132 overall), UCLA WR Jordan Lasley (No. 162 overall), Texas S DeShon Elliott (No. 190 overall), Wagner OT Greg Senat (No. 212 overall), Alabama C Bradley Bozeman (No. 215 overall), Ferris State DE Zach Sieler (No. 238 overall)
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome’s draft class is a confusing one. As terrific as it was for the Ravens to invest in Lamar Jackson as the successor to the declined Joe Flacco, they surrounded him with a rookie class that doesn’t seem to fit him well. Jackson has superstar talent and will benefit from a stable organization.
The Hurst pick was a confounding reach, as the 24-year-old had just four touchdowns in college. Former Oklahoma offensive tackle Orlando Brown has much to prove as well after a historically bad combine, and pairing Jackson with him is a questionable strategy. At least Day 3 additions Jaleel Scott and Jordan Lasley offer some depth and size at the receiver position for the Ravens to develop.
The Ravens almost always do well on Day 3, collecting quality players who they’ll be able to develop into role players in future years. Defensive picks Anthony Averett, Kenny Young and DeShon Elliott were savvy pickups as depth pieces. Watch out for Alabama center Bradley Bozeman to potentially start early in his career as well.
Grade: B-
      Cincinnati Bengals
Draft Picks:
Ohio State C Billy Price (No. 21 overall), Wake Forest S Jessie Bates (No. 54 overall), Ohio State DE Sam Hubbard (No. 77 overall), Texas LB Malik Jefferson (No. 78 overall), Miami RB Mark Walton (No. 112 overall), Illinois State DB Davontae Harris (No. 151 overall), Virginia DT Andrew Brown (No. 158 overall), Western Michigan CB Darius Phillips (No. 170 overall), Toledo QB Logan Woodside (No. 249 overall), Mississippi OG Rod Taylor (No. 252 overall), Florida State WR Auden Tate (No. 253 overall)
Though the Cincinnati Bengals haven’t been able to take the next step as a franchise because of an overly frugal front office, they’ve been one of the better drafting teams over the last decade when it comes to finding value in the middle rounds. They did it again, landing multiple players who can see the field right away and several others who can be long-term answers. It started with center Billy Price in the first round.
Price will immediately start and boost what was a porous unit in 2017. Day 2 defenders Jessie Bates, Sam Hubbard and Malik Jefferson are all solid athletes who can assume at least rotational roles this season. Bates will be an athletic upgrade on Shawn Williams but can also be a third safety in dime packages. Hubbard is the heir apparent to strong-side end Carlos Dunlap because of his size and run-stuffing ability. Jefferson is especially intriguing as a Vontaze Burfict replacement, although he’s always been more of a raw athlete playing the position as opposed to a finished product.
The Bengals may not get much out of their Day 3 picks for a few years, but they’ve excelled at bringing along developmental players to start in the future. Running back Mark Walton is talented enough to become a rotational back, while defensive tackle Andrew Brown and Darius Phillips were accomplished collegiate players worth a flier. If there’s one complaint about this class, it’s that the Bengals didn’t add a quarterback who could actually push Andy Dalton as a starter in the future.
Grade: A-
      Cleveland Browns
Draft Picks:
Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield (No. 1 overall), Ohio State CB Denzel Ward (No. 4 overall), Nevada OG Austin Corbett (No. 33 overall), Georgia RB Nick Chubb (No. 35 overall), Miami DE Chad Thomas (No. 67 overall), Florida WR Antonio Callaway (No. 105 overall), Memphis LB Genard Avery (No. 150 overall), Texas A&M WR Damion Ratley (No. 175 overall), Louisiana-Lafayette CB Simeon Thomas (No. 188 overall)
After so much talk about the death of analytics with the arrival of John Dorsey as the general manager, it’s clear the Cleveland Browns are still favoring metrics as part of the evaluation process, as they should be. Quarterback Baker Mayfield will make or break the class, but taking him No. 1 was surprising. The former Heisman Trophy winner was terrific at Oklahoma, but he’ll have to improve playing within structure and in the pocket before he’ll be a great NFL quarterback. If the Browns took anything other than what will be one of the best two quarterbacks from this class, it’ll be viewed as a failure again.
Taking cornerback Denzel Ward at No. 4 over Bradley Chubb was questionable despite needs at both positions. A third pass-rusher in their rotation would’ve built a line in the same manner as the Philadelphia Eagles. Nevada offensive lineman Austin Corbett may have been a third consecutive reach at No. 33, as it’s unknown whether he can play tackle or if he’ll back up their expensive interior linemen for a few years.
Day 3 picks Antonio Callaway and Genard Avery are high-upside players worth their respective risks. The thought of Callaway, who has a history of marijuana-related incidents, being in the same locker room as Josh Gordon is somewhat worrisome. The Browns certainly improved their roster, but whether they maximized their treasure-chest worth of picks remains to be seen.
Grade: B
      Pittsburgh Steelers
Draft Picks:
Virginia Tech S Terrell Edmunds (No. 28 overall), Oklahoma State WR James Washington (No. 60 overall), Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph (No. 76 overall), Western Michigan OT Chuks Okorafor (No. 92 overall), Penn State S Marcus Allen (No. 148 overall), NC State RB Jaylen Samuels (No. 165 overall), Alabama DT Joshua Frazier (No. 246 overall)
The challenge for Super Bowl contenders is to find early contributors despite picking late in rounds. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a small window right now, and they failed the test of properly adding immediate help to their core. First-round pick Terrell Edmunds was the biggest reach of the round, and the Steelers didn’t necessarily need a third safety with Morgan Burnett and Sean Davis already on the team.
Trading veteran Martavis Bryant for a third-round pick was good value for a disgruntled player, and James Washington is a dangerous downfield threat who will help right now. But then adding a backup in Mason Rudolph and developmental tackle in Chuks Okorafor instead of filling bigger needs is going to be costly when the 2018 playoffs arrive. Quarterback Ben Roethlisbergerwanting to play three more years makes the Rudolph pick highly questionable.
Passing on Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson, UCF cornerback Mike Hughes or even an edge-rusher like Boston College’s Harold Landry will loom large if Edmunds doesn’t drastically improve on his 2017 tape. The Steelers have been stuck as contenders with a limited playoff ceiling because of their inconsistent drafting over the last five years. This class appears to be another disappointing one in helping this current core reach its potential.

Biggest free-agency move so far for all 32 NFL teams - NFL Nation
NFL Nation reporters break down the opening day of free agency for every team, looking back at the deals made Wednesday and ahead to deals that could be on the horizon.

AFC EAST
The NFL’s quarterback carousel wound down with the Bills, still without a veteran quarterback, being matched with AJ McCarron, who was the last of the starting-caliber free agents still available. The deal should do little to stop the Bills from moving up in April’s draft to select a quarterback. However, Buffalo did address needs defensively by finalizing contracts for defensive tackle Star Lotulelei and defensive end Trent Murphy, as well as a pair of special-teams oriented players in safety Rafael Bush and linebacker Julian Stanford. — Mike Rodak | Analysis for every notable signing
The Dolphins made their biggest moves Tuesday, acquiring wide receivers Danny Amendola from the rival Patriots and Albert Wilson to make up for loss of the previously traded Jarvis Landry. The Dolphins also officially released defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh along with tight end Julius Thomas on Wednesday. — ESPN | Analysis for every notable signing
Starting left tackle Nate Solder departed for the Giants, signing a four-year, $62 million deal, which leaves the Patriots a massive hole when it comes to protecting the blindside of QB Tom Brady. As for where the Patriots go from here, keeping an eye on the offensive tackle market — specifically with two of their own free agents, LaAdrian Waddle and Cameron Fleming — figures to be on the team’s agenda. Solder is now the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL by a wide margin, and while the Patriots hoped to retain him, they obviously didn’t feel comfortable extending themselves to that level. — Mike Reiss | Analysis for every notable signing
The Jets applied two Band-Aids to their quarterback situation, finalizing one-year deals with Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater. Now the focus at the position shifts to the draft. With the sixth pick, they will strongly consider a quarterback if the value is there. They added four other starters at other positions, all of whom are 28 or younger. The biggest splash was CB Trumaine Johnson, whose press-coverage ability is ideal for their defense. — Rich Cimini | Analysis for every notable signing
AFC NORTH
The Ravens lived up to their word in changing their look at wide receiver. Baltimore officially reached deals with Ryan Grant and John Brown after releasing Jeremy Maclin after one season. Parting ways with Maclin created $5 million in salary cap room. The Ravens aren’t likely finished. Baltimore has a visit scheduled with wide receiver Jordy Nelson (although it’s after Oakland, Seattle and New Orleans) and could look at tight end Eric Ebron. — Jamison Hensley | Analysis for every notable signing
The Bengals re-signed longtime punter Kevin Huber, which was key since they didn’t have anyone lined up to take his place. However, that was the biggest move in what was a slow day for the Bengals, as offensive tackle Andre Smith signed with the Cardinals. The Bengals have shown interest in re-signing Tyler Eifert and Russell Bodine, but as of now, they remain free agents. — Katherine Terrell | Analysis for every notable signing
Future Hall of Fame left tackle Joe Thomas announced his retirement. Though he told the team a few days ago, the Browns still have large hole to fill at Thomas’ spot. They’ve filled a ton already with John Dorsey’s trades and agreements, but left tackle is a need. Another big decision also awaits as Terrelle Pryor decides if he wants return to Cleveland, where he had his breakout season as a receiver. — Pat McManamon | Analysis for every notable signing
Rarely a factor in the first free agency wave, the Steelers stuck to housecleaning Wednesday with the release of three veteran defensive backs — Will Gay, Mike Mitchell and Robert Golden. The moves save more than $8 million in cap space and set the stage for future additions at safety, but the team has not been active on the market thus far. They have inquired about several inside linebackers without much commitment. Expect the team to get more involved late this week or early next as the prices drop. — Jeremy Fowler
AFC SOUTH
The Texans made necessary upgrades to what was one of the worst offensive lines last season, adding guards Zach Fulton and Senio Kelemete and tackle Seantrel Henderson. After missing out on Solder, who signed a huge deal with the Giants, the Texans are still looking for a left tackle in free agency. — Sarah Barshop | Analysis for every notable signing
GM Chris Ballard stuck to his word and hasn’t been a free spender despite having more than $70 million in cap space. The lone move the Colts made on the first day of free agency was agreeing to a three-year, $17.8 million deal, with $6.5 million guaranteed, with defensive lineman Denico Autry, who spent the past four seasons in Oakland. The slow start in free agency isn’t surprising for the Colts. That was also the case last season, as Ballard prefers to build the roster through the draft despite having needs at pass-rusher, receiver, offensive line and cornerback. Speaking of cornerback, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Oakland and Green Bay are two teams interested in Rashaan Melvin, who was the Colts top cornerback last season. — Mike Wells | Analysis for every notable signing
The Jaguars landed guard Andrew Norwell, who filled the team’s biggest need. He was one of the league’s best linemen in 2017 and now the Jaguars have a stout left side with tackle Cam Robinson and Norwell. Other than re-signing receiver Marqise Lee, the Jaguars’ other signings aren’t that noteworthy. Niles Paul is a move tight end but how much of an impact he can make is uncertain. Per Adam Schefter, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is scheduled to meet with the Jaguars on Thursday. He’s coming off a career-high 50-catch season. — Mike DiRocco | Analysis for every notable signing
The Titans’ big moves Wednesday were securing their own by re-signing guard Josh Kline and defensive end DaQuan Jones to solid, but not flashy deals. The big splashes came Tuesday evening when they agreed to sign cornerback Malcolm Butler and running back Dion Lewis. Tennessee has made a few moves that signal they are ready to win now and more are expected in the coming days. Former Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne is expected to visit this week, and he’s an option to fill the backup role. The options at that position are dwindling so it’s likely the Titans will make a move this week. Losing Avery Williamson to the Jets creates a hole at inside linebacker that could still be filled in free agency. The Titans might also look into adding depth at receiver, safety or edge rusher in the coming days. — Cameron Wolfe | Analysis for every notable signing.
AFC WEST
The Broncos had a deal in place for quarterback Case Keenum, their top priority in free agency, before the period officially opened Wednesday. But in the opening hours of the new league year, the Broncos got started with some spot work on defense. Linebacker Todd Davis was re-signed on a three-year, $15 million deal and cornerback Tramaine Brock to a one-year deal. Brock has played both outside and in the slot in his career and figures to be a situational player on defense with plenty of special teams work. The Broncos are on the hunt for some additional help at cornerback and would like to sign a veteran tackle who could be an option at right tackle. — Jeff Legwold | Analysis for every notable signing
The Chiefs announced the trades of quarterback Alex Smith and cornerback Marcus Peters and their contract agreements with a pair of free agents, wide receiver Sammy Watkins and linebacker Anthony Hitchens. Their next move is to add a veteran quarterback to play behind starter Patrick Mahomes II. Mahomes is the only QB the Chiefs have under contract after trading Smith. — Adam Teicher | Analysis for every notable signing
The Chargers failed to make a real splash on the first day of free agency. Instead, Chargers GM Tom Telesco made a handful of sensible signings. He inked former Broncos blocking tight end Virgil Green to a three-year deal, and retained four Chargers free agents — tackle Michael Schofield, safety Adrian Phillips, receiver Geremy Davis and special teams standout Nick Dzubnar. Former Oakland Raider Sebastian Janikowski is set to visit on Thursday, and the Chargers still have to figure out if they will keep future Hall of Famer and unrestricted free agent Antonio Gates. — Eric D. Williams | Analysis for every notable signing
Officially, the Raiders were silent on the first day of free agency. This much was known, though, as Nelson visited the Raiders’ facility, Oakland re-signed blocking TE Lee Smith, tendered all five of their exclusive rights free agents in PK Giorgio Tavecchio, OLB Shilique Calhoun, OLB/DE James Cowser, S Erik Harris and OL Denver Kirkland and lost free agent CB TJ Carrie and free agent DL Denico Autry to the Browns and Colts, respectively. The Raiders had already re-signed DT Justin Ellis and signed WR Griff Whalen. MLB NaVorro Bowman, QB EJ Manuel, S Keith McGill and S Reggie Nelson remain unsigned, with Janikowski and LS Jon Condo both told in recent weeks they would not be retained by the Raiders. — Paul Gutierrez
NFC EAST
Anthony Hitchens officially joined the Kansas City Chiefs with a $9 million a year deal that was out of the Cowboys’ price range. The Cowboys entered free agency knowing Hitchens was likely gone but are currently sitting out the early market with eyes on players whose prices may come down in the next day or so. Linebacker is a need the Cowboys will look to fill in free agency and the draft. The next order of business could be restructuring the contract of Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick, which would create about $7 million in room. — Todd Archer
The Giants landed Solder, for a hefty price. He’s the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman after signing a four-year deal worth $62 million. He’s not enough though. The Giants still need more offensive linemen, even if they’re second- or third-tier options. Also keep an eye on free agent defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who played for new Giants defensive coordinator James Bettcher in Arizona. — Jordan Raanan | Analysis for every notable signing
The Eagles retained a key piece to their defense by signing linebacker Nigel Bradham to a five-year, $40 million deal. He’s the type of aggressive, physical linebacker that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz needs to support his attacking front four. Keep an eye on fellow linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who has been the subject of trade speculation for multiple seasons. The Eagles have spent the early part of free agency focused on defense; they should turn their attention to offense before long. Tight end, running back and receiver are three positions that could use some bolstering. — Tim McManus | Analysis for every notable signing.
The Redskins officially traded for quarterback Alex Smith, sending a third-round pick plus corner Kendall Fuller to Kansas City. The move was made on Jan. 30, so a key part of their offseason plan was finished long ago. They also signed receiver Paul Richardson, giving them a speedy target opposite Josh Doctson. Washington re-signed receiver Brian Quick. But the biggest news of the day was the exodus of quarterback Kirk Cousins (Minnesota), corner Bashaud Breeland (Carolina), linebacker Trent Murphy (Buffalo), receiver Ryan Grant (Baltimore) and tight end Niles Paul (Jacksonville). The Redskins hosted Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Tuesday; the money wasn’t yet right so he remains unsigned. But the Redskins otherwise had a quiet day with no other visits yet known. They had previously shown interest in Buffalo linebacker Preston Brown. — John Keim | Analysis for every notable signing.
NFC NORTH
The Bears officially announced their splashy free-agent signings of wide receiver Allen Robinson (three-year deal) and tight end Trey Burton (four-year deal). Chicago also added veteran quarterback Chase Daniel (two-year deal) to back up former second overall pick Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears also released three members of their atrocious 2017 free-agent class: quarterback Mike Glennon, wide receiver Markus Wheaton and cornerback Marcus Cooper. The Bears did most of their heavy free-agent lifting prior to the start of the league year, but general manager Ryan Pace is still looking to fill holes on the offensive line and at punter, where last year’s starter, Pat O’Donnell, is out of contract. — Jeff Dickerson | Analysis for every notable signing
The Lions had their biggest move be a subtraction Wednesday, surprisingly cutting tight end Eric Ebron after being unable to trade the former first-round pick. It leaves another hole for the Lions to have to fill as the only tight ends on Detroit’s roster are Michael Roberts, Hakeem Valles and Brandon Barnes — none of whom have much experience. This pushes tight end to a pretty high point as far as needs go for the Lions with many top free-agent options already headed elsewhere. Considering Detroit has focused solely on defense with its free-agent acquisitions thus far, figure the Lions will start to look at the offensive side of the ball tomorrow, perhaps with tight end or running back, where veterans Frank Gore, DeMarco Murray and Jonathan Stewart have reportedly been on visits. — Michael Rothstein | Analysis for every notable signing
The Packers didn’t make an official moves on Wednesday; they did their heavy lifting on Tuesday when they agreed to terms with tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson. Neither deal was announced on the opening day of free agency but they should be finalized on Day 2. That’s when the Packers could turn their attention to their biggest hole: cornerback. They’ve expressed interest in former Colts cornerback Rashaan Melvin. — Rob Demovsky | Analysis for every notable signing
The Vikings took one step closer to solidifying their quarterback room with the addition of Trevor Siemian via a trade with Denver. That was the only move Minnesota made at the beginning of free agency, and it’ll take until Cousins signs his fully guaranteed deal for the team to decide how they’ll be able to re-sign other players they’re interested in keeping (Joe Berger, Tom Johnson, Shamar Stephen). Cousins dined with Vikings brass at Capital Grille on Wednesday and will tour the team’s new facility in Eagan on Thursday where he is expected to sign his contract. — Courtney Cronin | Analysis for every notable signing
NFC SOUTH
The Falcons addressed a need on the offensive line by reaching a three-year, $12.75 deal with guard Brandon Fusco. Upgrading the interior of the line was an offseason emphasis to have better success in short-yardage situations and protect Matt Ryan. Fusco, with 80 career starts, should step right into a starting role at right guard after playing in a similar scheme under former Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. — Vaughn McClure | Analysis for every notable signing
Re-signing 38-year-old defensive end Julius Peppers was critical for Carolina’s offseason plans. They get a bargain one-year, $5 million deal for a player that tied for the team lead in sacks a year ago. Now the team needs to find a tight end to join Greg Olsen with Ed Dickson testing the market and/or a second-tier safety to replace Kurt Coleman. — David Newton| Analysis for every notable signing
The Saints haven’t done anything too dramatic in free agency so far, but they’ve followed a formula that has served them well during the Mickey Loomis-Sean Payton era — focusing on the “second tier” of free agents. They signed LB Demario Davis, CB Patrick Robinson and backup QB Tom Savage on Wednesday after signing veteran safety Kurt Coleman last week. The $8 million per year payout (according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini) for Davis is a little surprising, since they’re already well-stocked with inside linebackers. And they paid a premium for both Davis and Robinson after career-best seasons. But they have signed several guys who can help without taking any major risks. It’s still possible they could make a big splash (at defensive tackle perhaps?). But they have shown restraint so far. — Mike Triplett | Analysis for every notable signing
The Bucs kicked off free agency by re-signing several of their own including wide receiver Mike Evans, tight end Cameron Brate, backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, safety Keith Tandy, linebacker Adarius Glanton and running back Peyton Barber. Then, after missing out on pass-rusher Trent Murphy, they signed two run-stuffing defensive tackles in Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein and inked kicker Chandler Catanzaro to a three-year deal worth $9.75 million with $3.75 million guaranteed. This means that for the sixth-straight year, the Bucs will have a different kicker. Offensive lineman Matt Jensen also took a visit with the Bucs on Wednesday night. He’s scheduled to stay through Thursday morning before heading a visit in Indianapolis. — Jenna Laine | Analysis for every notable signing
NFC WEST
The biggest move by the Cardinals on Wednesday was the release of safety Tyrann Mathieu. After the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on a pay cut, Arizona cut the 25-year-old who had become a face of the franchise. The Cardinals were also linked to two offensive linemen — Andre Smith and Justin Pugh. Thursday could be an important day in the quarterback department for the Cardinals with the possibility of them putting pen to paper with Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon. — Josh Weinfuss | Analysis for every notable signing
The Rams didn’t add any players on the first day of the new league year, but their four big trades — acquiring Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, parting with Alec Ogletree and Robert Quinn — were officially processed. The Rams are still looking to add edge rushers and run stuffers, and general manager Les Snead said Wednesday he’s still hopeful he can address those needs via free agency. Snead is also in talks with the representatives for center John Sullivan and outside linebacker Connor Barwin, both of whom he would like to bring back. The Rams are expected to move on from Tavon Austin by end of day on Thursday, either via trade or release. — Alden Gonzalez | Analysis for every notable signing
The 49ers made a not-so-surprising change at running back, allowing starter Carlos Hyde to leave for Cleveland while signing the smaller and more explosive Jerick McKinnon from Minnesota. McKinnon’s contract raised some eyebrows but he’s the kind of player Shanahan covets because of his speed and ability to make big plays. Shanahan is clearly hoping McKinnon becomes to the Niners what Devonta Freeman was for him in Atlanta. The Niners have filled important needs at running back, cornerback and on the offensive line but there’s still work to be done. Cornerback DeShawn Shead is slated to wrap up his visit Thursday and he could offer some more depth at that position. — Nick Wagoner | Analysis for every notable signing
The Seahawks’ first addition of free agency was former first-round pick Barkevious Mingo, who signed a two-year deal. Pass rush was among Seattle’s top needs heading into free agency, and Mingo helps in that regard while also giving the Seahawks an option to start at strong-side linebacker. That doesn’t mean the Seahawks are done adding to their defensive line. Sheldon Richardson is still unsigned and ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports Seattle is interested in Suh, who would be a nice fallback option if the price isn’t too steep. DeShawn Shead, whom Seattle hoped to bring back, instead signed with the Lions. So a major void remains at cornerback with Richard Sherman gone and Shead no longer an option to replace him. Looking ahead, the Seahawks have a visit scheduled with Jordy Nelson, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Russell Wilson lost two of his top targets in Graham and Richardson, so there’s a need there, but the Seahawks aren’t likely to get into a bidding war for Nelson. — Brady Henderson | Analysis for every notable signing

NFL rushing leader Gurley inactive as Rams rest starters
December 31, 2017  (AP)(STL.News) —NFL rushing leader Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams is inactive for Sunday’s home regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.
Gurley will finish the regular season with 1,305 yards rushing. Also resting for the playoffs are center John Sullivan, left tackle Andrew Whitworth and defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
The Rams clinched the NFC West title last weekend and first-year coach Sean McVay is opting to rest several of his stars. Quarterback Jared Goff is expected to get the day off but is active as the backup to Sean Mannion, who will make his first career start.
Carolina running back Jonathan Stewart is inactive for the first time this season against Atlanta. Stewart had seen a diminished role the past two weeks. He had only seven carries for 19 yards in last week’s win over Tampa Bay, but was still listed as the Panthers’ starter. Stewart’s exit leaves Christian McCaffrey as the probable starter.
Jacksonville is locked in as the third seed in the AFC, but is sitting only two starters against Tennessee: left tackle Cam Robinson, who left last week’s game with an abdominal strain, and receiver Marqise Lee (ankle).
Derrick Henry is getting the first start of his two-year NFL career with DeMarco Murray scratched for the first time since joining the Titans. Murray is out with an injured right knee.
Denver running back Jamaal Charles will sit out against Kansas City, his former team. Charles was a four-time Pro Bowler with the Chiefs, but never found a groove with the Broncos this season. His past month reads like this: No carries in two games, inactive for two games.
Rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes will start for Kansas City in place of Alex Smith. Inactives for Sunday’s late games:

Cardinals vs. Brewers betting line tight for Tuesday matchup
Tumblr media
The Milwaukee Brewers will try to build on their NL Central lead against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night in a near pick’em on the MLB odds at the sportsbooks.
The Milwaukee Brewers are 7-1 over their last eight games including a current stretch of four straight wins. The Brewers hope to stay hot with another win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of this three-game series against the Cardinals at home on Tuesday night.
Milwaukee is going off as a -102 home underdog at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Zach Davies is set to start for the Brewers against Michael Wacha and the Cardinals as a -108 road favorite.

Cardinals at Brewers OddsShark Matchup Report
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-5 road win over the Cincinnati Reds to wrap up the month of April with a record of 17-13. Milwaukee went on to sweep the Reds in that series and enter this game with an 18-7 record so far in the month of May.
The team’s strong performance in May has helped separate the Brewers from the pack in the NL Central, entering Tuesday with a 4.5-game lead over the Chicago Cubs and a five-game lead over St. Louis.
In Monday’s series opener, the Brewers beat the Cardinals 8-3. That win brought Milwaukee’s record against St. Louis to 12-6 in the last 18 meetings between these two division rivals per the OddsShark MLB Database.
St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis has received sensational starting pitching this season, getting a 3.02 combined ERA from its starters this year that ranks third best in the MLB behind only Houston and Washington.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the offense has been far less productive, ranking 20th in runs scored with 216 for an average of just 4.32 per game. Michael Wacha has been great with or without run support this season with a 2.88 ERA and has led the Cardinals to a 7-2 record in his last nine starts.
Tuesday night’s total is set at nine runs. The UNDER is 16-7-2 in the Cardinals’ last 25 games.
Tuesday night’s showdown between Michael Wacha and a red-hot Brewers offense that has scored 33 runs over its last three games should be a fun one. The series will wrap up on Wednesday night with Junior Guerra taking the mound for the home team against Alex Reyes.

Instant Analysis: Lions 24, Giants 10
Get an instant postgame recap of the Giants’ Week 2 loss to the Lions:
AT A GLANCE
The Giants failed to play complementary football in their first two games, and that’s why they find themselves 0-2 to start the season. In a game where the team allowed five sacks and an 88-yard punt return touchdown, the Giants dropped their home opener, 24-10, to the Lions on Monday night.
UP NEXT
The Giants (0-2) hit the road in back-to-back weeks, beginning with a trip to Philadelphia for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field before a meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following Sunday. The Eagles dropped to 1-1 in Week 2 with a 27-20 loss to Kansas City.
WHAT WE LEARNED ON OFFENSE
•  For the first time since injuring his ankle in the second preseason game in Cleveland, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suited up. The three-time Pro Bowler was questionable heading into Monday night, but after going through pregame warmups, he got the green light. However, Roger Lewis got the start again while Beckham rotated on and off the field throughout the game. His first catch was a four-yard gain late in the first quarter, and he finished the night with four receptions for 36 yards.
•  Right tackle Bobby Hart, who was dealing with an ankle injury all week, had to leave midway through the first drive of the game. Consequently, Justin Pugh slid over there from left guard, where Brett Jones came in to take his place.
•  Eli Manning went 22 of 32 for 239 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He was sacked five times, three coming at the hands of Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah.
•  Rookie tight end Evan Engram, the No. 23 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, scored his first NFL touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. Manning found him wide open over the middle for an 18-yard score. It was also the offense’s first touchdown of the season. They have not eclipsed 20 points in a game since Week 12 of last season.
•  The Giants managed 62 yards on the ground a week after having just 35 in the season opener in Dallas.
WHAT WE LEARNED ON DEFENSE
•  The Giants missed two defensive starters on Monday night: Pro Bowl cornerback Janoris Jenkins (ankle/hand) and middle linebacker B.J. Goodson (shin), who led the NFL in Week 1 with 18 tackles.
•  Calvin Munson, who made the roster this summer as an undrafted rookie out of San Diego State, started in place of Goodson. Before the game, the Giants added more depth to the position by promoting Curtis Grant off the team’s practice squad while waiving wide receiver Tavarres King. Meanwhile, Ross Cockrell, who was acquired via trade shortly before the season began, helped fill the void left by Jenkins.
•  On the drive after the Giants scored their first touchdown, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul strip-sacked Matthew Stafford and linebacker Devon Kennard recovered the fumble. However, on the next play, Manning threw an interception on a pass intended for Engram and the Lions capitalized with a touchdown.
•  The defense surrendered only 257 yards, 13 fewer than the Giants had on offense.
WHAT WE LEARNED ON SPECIAL TEAMS
•  Off a booming punt by Brad Wing in the fourth quarter, the Giants gave up an 88-yard return touchdown from Jamal Agnew, giving the Lions a 24-10 lead with 12:56 to play.
•  Aldrick Rosas made his lone field goal attempt from 25 yards. However, he also kicked a ball out of bounds on an earlier kickoff for a penalty that led to Detroit starting the drive at its own 45.

They were joined by former Giants Brandon Jacobs, Plaxico Burress, Chris Snee, and Justin Tuck, who were taking part in the 10-year anniversary celebration of Super Bowl XLII.

Mychal Kendricks is facing charges for insider trading. Um what?
Tumblr media
The Browns’ bad luck is really something else.
Four years ago, Mychal Kendricks was involved in insider trading during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. The linebacker admitted as much in a statement Wednesday after he received federal charges for a scheme that reportedly netted Kendricks and Black-ish writer Damilare Sonoiki nearly $1.2 million.
“While I didn’t fully understand all of the details of the illegal trades, I knew it was wrong, and I wholeheartedly regret my actions,” Kendricks said.
Kendricks, 27, spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Eagles. He played 85 games for Philadelphia and earned a Super Bowl victory, but when did he get busted? As soon as he joined the Cleveland Browns.
It isn’t clear when the federal investigation that landed Kendricks in hot water began, but it likely started long before the Browns signed the linebacker in June. But it would seem the team only just found out about the trouble that Kendricks has found himself in:
Our statement on LB Mychal Kendricks: pic.twitter.com/SJT4RPdo0o
— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) August 29, 2018
For now, Kendricks won’t travel with the team to their final preseason game in Detroit. That likely won’t be the end of his punishment, though. The NFL Personal Conduct Policy lists “crimes of dishonesty such as blackmail, extortion, fraud, money laundering, or racketeering” as prohibited conduct that could result in a suspension.
It’s kind of uncharted territory for the league, but it may not matter what the league or Browns do. Jail time is a very realistic possibility for Kendricks, and he may never again be back on an active roster to serve a punishment from the league.
The conclusion to this story will almost definitely be that the Browns are without one of their free agent additions for a while, if they even get him back at all.
The Browns have awful luck
It’s easy to point and laugh at Cleveland, but really sometimes their bad luck is remarkable.
Plenty of it is self-inflicted thanks to the ineptitude of Jimmy Haslam, a team owner that willingly brought back Hue Jackson for another go as head coach after one win in two years. But then something like Kendricks’ legal trouble that remind you the universe is out to get the Browns too.
Kendricks finding a new way for the Browns to hear bad news is very on brand.
That said, it’s not quite a disaster.
The Browns defense is going to be fine
While Kendricks was a starter for years in Philadelphia, the Browns have a solid group of linebackers with Jamie Collins, Joe Schobert, and Christian Kirksey. Before Kendricks was ruled out against the Lions, he was second on the depth chart at SAM behind Collins.
With or without Kendricks, the Cleveland defense looks like it has the pieces in place to be a really good unit in 2018.
In its last outing, the Browns shutout the Eagles to earn a 5-0 win. Kendricks had one tackle in the victory, while other players including rookie linebacker Genard Avery, stood out more.
Kendricks has had a 2018 to remember
Less than 24 hours before news broke of his federal charges, Kendricks’ thoughts on a few of his former Eagles teammates raised eyebrows. On HBO’s Hard Knocks, he implied quarterback Nick Foles doesn’t have a great deep ball, tight end Zach Ertz isn’t a good blocker, and it’s not hard to shake the confidence of offensive tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai.
In an earlier episode of the show, Kendricks said the Browns have “so much more talent in this room than what I did in Philly, it’s not even funny.”
Kendricks asked to be traded by the Eagles last summer before reluctantly sticking around for what turned out to be a Super Bowl run. Then when he was released and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Kendricks would join the Browns, but the linebacker vehemently denied the report.
Mychal Kendricks on report he is signing with the Browns: 1/2: “No, it’s not accurate. I don’t know who the (bleep) said that. That (bleep) is (bleep). Whoever said that (bleep) is (bleep). That’s all I have to say, man. I’m not really talking to anybody else about it...

LB Mychal Kendricks on report he's signing with the Browns, 2/2. " It’s (bleep). I don’t like people like that. I don’t respect people like that. And that’s all I have to say.’’
— Chris Tomasson (@christomasson) June 3, 2018
Two days later, the Browns made the contract with Kendricks official.
What’s next is unclear, but if this is the end of the road for Kendricks in the NFL he went out with one hell of a blaze of glory.

Odell Beckham Jr. active for tonight’s game; view Giants vs. Lions Inactives
The following Giants players will sit out tonight’s home opener against the Lions:
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Odell Beckham, Jr. will make his 2017 debut tonight against the Detroit Lions.
The Giants opted to have Beckham suit up after a pregame workout in which he seemed to run without pain or restraint, and easily caught passes. Beckham had a similar test last week in Dallas, but was placed on the inactive list afterward.
The pregame news was not all good for the Giants. Two defensive starters – middle linebacker B.J. Goodson and cornerback Janoris Jenkins – are inactive. Goodson, who had a team-high 18 tackles (14 solo) against the Cowboys, has a calf injury. This will be the first game Goodson will miss in his two seasons with the Giants. Rookie free agent Calvin Munson will start in his place.
Jenkins has ankle and hand injuries. He sat out the Giants’ game in Philadelphia last Dec. 22 with a rib injury.
The rest of the Giants’ inactive list includes running back Wayne Gallman, linebacker Keenan Robinson, tight end Matt LaCosse, defensive end Avery Moss, and quarterback Davis Webb.
