WWR Internship - Week 1

Hi! My name is Lydia Zarefoss, and I am a current sophomore at Point Park University studying Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management. This semester I am starting my very first internship with Women Who Rock. I am so excited to get started working with such a great group of women while fighting for such a great cause. This page is where I will journal weekly updates on what I am doing throughout the semester!

There are two other interns that I will be working alongside this semester. We began the meeting by introducing ourselves, including our home town, major, and the goals we had for this internship. I mentioned that I enjoyed working with social media, but I am open to working on a variety of aspects. I'm still figuring out what I want to accomplish in the future, so that flexibilty is very important to me. Working in live events is something I am very interested in, so having the opportunity to learn what goes into planning and excecuting an event, like the benefit concert, is very exciting. We then received our weekly assignments. This week's assignment is to look up other brands and their past initiatives for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Creating a Pinterest board describing what we think "Pinktober" means is the other component of the project. We were tasked with distributing "Hot Cards" and posters around campus and throughout Downtown in order to promote the benefit concert.

During our time at the pop-up shop on Friday, we developed and reviewed the "Run of Show" for the benefit event. You go through and schedule all of the events that are meant to take place on stage. I learned the importance of creating a precise and organized Run of Show. Then, in preparation for the pop-up at the Race on Sunday, we compiled a list and got to work organizing and packaging inventory. Though this day may have seemed to be rather low key, the reason for this is that the Run of Show required the most preparation and scheduling, which is why it took the longest to complete.

That about wraps up Week 1! I am so excited to get started and continue to work on these projects.
