It was a peaceful, glorious day upon Crescent Beach, the sun striking a perfect balance with the clouds for a bright-but-manageable sky. Zelda had been spending the majority of her morning upon its sandy trenches (as had become her habit lately,) reading aloud a story to her youngest grandchild as they dripped remnants of ocean upon her lap.

“And so the Hero called upon the power of song, opening the great temple doors, and—”

“Fang!” The child scampered to their feet upon catching a glance of the familiar family friend, giggling as they hugged and tugged and prompted the woman into a short bout of play before dashing back into the water with renewed energy.

Zelda shook her head with a smile, looking up to Fang as she joined her on the sand. “If you’ve come to deliver a message from the council, I’ll tell you the same as I told them— no, no again, and I am retired.”

She chuckled then, closing the book and setting it aside. “Now that is taken care of; how are you, Fang?”
