remembered once again that there was a significant number of the bannorn that wanted a cousland on the throne and all I can think about is an arranged marriage between f!cousland and loghain by maric to suppress any growing rebellion/discontentment

something to be said about the grand cleric refusing to let alistair go

#like that's just such a pointed statement and he brings it up a couple times #and he says it so breezily so casually like its nothing #I wonder if she knew who's son he really was #there's precedent for highborn families to send their 'spares' to the chantry ie the trevelyan inquisitor #and the chantry is an incredibly orlesian institution (despite everything about andraste) and its not even a whole generation since #the invasion and there's already rumors about cailan and celene and now I'm just wondering if there was some grand conspiracy to bring #ferelden back into the empire by subsuming their royal line since making alistair a templar would leave him reliant on the chantry for #the rest of his life after all idk idk #I need to stop drinking while playing this game I swear #a talkative qunari.tag #grand chantry conspiracy™

thinking thoughts about anora being the “real power behind the throne” and why I don’t particularly vibe with that bit of canon

#thoughts inconclusive #something about it just feels off to me idk idk #I don’t like anora’s in game characterization but I think her character is wildly fascinating #just not for the reasons canon wants me to #I’ve mentioned before how weird I think the mac tir situation™️ is for ferelden #(it’s kinda becoming my thing🙃) but I /have/ to bring it up again cause it should characterize her the most!!!#but it doesn’t and that’s weird!!! she’s the daughter of a farmer and a cabinet maker and simultaneously her family is second only to the #royal family itself with only one (1) other family of similar prestige/rank #ik BioWare is actually allergic to acknowledging politics and political repercussions but like that has to mean something to her #and the people that she grew up with and around. at the very least she’s of age with the arl of denerim’s son and we all know what vaughn #is like there’s no way he didn’t call her a clueless farm brat and tell her to go back to whatever field she crawled out of #and all of this should be informing her politics but we don’t get to see that we’re just told anora ran the country while cailan played king #very frustrating #a talkative qunari.tag

duncan is such an interesting character and yet I don't think ive ever played a warden that actually liked him

#a talkative qunari.tag #origins.tag #he's just so......blunt about everything #there is no honor in the warden's under him #no sympathy no reluctance #he's such an easily hate-able character for your warden #he can forcibly take them from everything they've ever known and loved and yet there's that conversation you can have about him with #alistair later on where most of the options boil down to oh but he's a good man #every interaction the player has had with him before that point says the opposite tho!!#for couslands he leaves your parents to die and your home stolen out from under you when he had a perfectly willing recruit in ser gilmore #for mahariels hes left your best friend/lover alone in the forest with the darkspawn taint and near forces your keeper you mentor #to cast you out of the clan in the hopes you maybe survive the joining #for tabris he's the human that initially disrupts your wedding being rude and confrontational in a situation he knows he doesn't belong in #just cause he knew your mother but not you never you your opinion doesn't matter just like every other human in thedas #the only origins imo that have neutral to positive interactions with him are the dwarves and mages where he is actually saving you from #a fate worse than death in some instances and then there's the pre-joining speech he gives which is a whole separate rant

ik the games can’t really get into socio-political topics too heavily but it’s still so weird to me that the bannorn were simply okay with loghain being made a teyrn and letting his daughter marry the crown prince/king when the cousland’s are literally right there

#loghain was a farmer that maric picked up during the rebellion and then was ready to put his blood on the throne #like don’t get me wrong I love loghain and understand his character/role in the narrative #and the bannorn really had /nothing/ to say to that??#anora’s parents are a farmer-turned-soldier and a cabinet maker!!! and they made her queen consort!!! and she can start a whole new dynasty!#it’s just weird from my understanding of how medieval nobility worked #also iirc it’s canon that at some point the bannorn did want the cousland family to take the throne or something like that #im losing my mind over this #the mac tir’s #literal rags to riches story #ferelden politics #a talkative qunari.tag

wait can someone with actual like military campaign knowledge explain how the qunari were able to even conquer kirkwall?? like how did they physically get there??

cause looking at the map, they would have had to have sailed passed both antiva and rivain and then choose kirkwall when just to their left was ferelden, all while simultaneously marching troops further into the free marches to attack starkhaven, presumably to have an inland stronghold against tevinter, and this makes no sense to me

I’m sure it’s been said before but I still think it’s very interesting that Duncan waits to recruit Alistair until after Maric dies like what’s that about

#he was supposed to be maric’s friend of a sort iirc and yet….he puts alistair through a ritual #that had like a fifty percent survival rate at best and this isn’t even to bring up fiona and her potential feelings on the matter #like what was the game plan of alistair had died??? was he just gonna shrug his shoulders like oh well it happens to best of us nothing to #do about it now. duncan is so fascinating in contexts like this cause like if you’ve only played the games (like myself) he’s actually a #very one note character- he only cares about stopping the blight nothing else matters #not your agreement or approval or even understanding it doesn’t matter!! cause he knows best and being a warden is sacrifice both yours and #the people around you. everything and everyone is expendable to a degree so long as it further your goal (killing the archdemon)#and that makes him such an easily hate-able character for pc’s cause he directly ruins your life at the start of the game #and then you have to carry on his legacy unwillingly!!!#sorry i'm back in my “i don't like duncan” era #fascinating character but I really hate how the game didn’t really let you speak badly of him without expressly disapproving #of it in your talks with alistair about him #a talkative qunari.tag #origins.tag

mithra is the first warden since my very first that actually chooses to kill conner and I forgot how heart wrenching isolde’s voice acting was

#still don’t like her but damn girl I feel you on this one #a talkative qunari.tag #origins.tag #mithra surana.tag #mithra’s reasoning was jowan is a blood mage and lied to her before #and the circle is too far and they don’t know how long conner can be kept at bay #and even if she did face the demon in the fade the boy would still be sent to the circle and when they learned he’s already #dealt with demons he’d be made tranquil so he’d be dying either way really #this is the first real hard decision she’s had to make
