adireafricantextiles – One of the top pieces in the shop at the moment, this Ewe kente is a real masterpiece of African textile art, magnificent museum quality Ewe chiefs kente in an unusual palette dominated by yellow, pink, and red. A superb example of an Ewe master weaver’s artistry and the informed patronage of a wealthy chief, solid blocks of multiple narrow weft stripes in a huge variety of combinations alternate with warp striped sections that hold finely woven extra weft float motifs. Among these we note birds, fishes, and a hand with a ring. Cloths of this quality were never plentiful and very few become available these days. Dates from circa 1930s. Condition is excellent. Measurement: 121ins x 75, 308 cm x 191.
