The air changes. The clouds clear out and the black aura that had covered the school building before disappears.

Natsuki Shinomiya: Huh? ... The school yard is all messed up all of a sudden...?

Shinomiya-san is back to his gentle, calm self.

Even after I pick it up, the kitten is trembling in my arms.

... I guess it‘s really scared.

Haruka Nanami: It’s okay now. Wait... this kitten... Oh, that’s right.

The kitten is the one that I helped at the entrance ceremony.

From then on, I call the kitten ‘Kuppuru’ and secretly start keeping it in my dormitory.

Kuppuru: Meoow~. Meoow~.

Haruka Nanami: Heh heh. Kuppuru really likes melon bread~.

I’ve tried various things so far, but Kuppuru would rather have sweet bread than cat food…

Especially melon bread—that seems to be the one he loves.

It’s a little strange that melon bread is the kitty’s favorite food, but this kitty is also my precious friend now.

Figured I’d do a gear review for something I use almost daily, and some gear that frustrates the hell out of me.

E collar straps

I’ve got four straps here, these are the most common straps you will see on the market. I use a mini-educator/EZ-900, so these straps are suitable for those receivers.

1 & 2

Left: standard buckle, right: “antenna” bungee style

The collar on the left is the one you used to get with every educator collar. It’s a thin biothane buckle collar with a zillion holes for maximum size adjustment, and the excess can be cut off or folded over. Educator stopped sending these out with their collars because they understood the need for more adjustment/comfort, and the standard straps just weren’t cutting it.

They work for some dogs to get firm, consistent contact, but many people find that they have contact issues because of the flexing and movement of the neck. For example, if the collar is placed too low on the neck, it can slide up and lose contact. The solution is high-and-tight, but then you have comfort issues when the dogs neck swells, turns, flexes, etc. The good thing about these straps is that they’re cheap, simple and easy to get a snug fit, and you can easily take them off and on and remember the hole you were in.

The collar on the right is your “antenna” style bungie, made popular by FullGripSupply. This is the most common bungie collar on the market. Extremely easy to fit, you just slip it over the dogs head, pull it taut, and make sure it’s not too tight. The collar can be placed lower on the neck (and some trainers do this intentionally) because it will tighten as it moves up the neck. No matter where the receiver is on the neck, it will be firm contact.

The downsides of this collar is that a good ~1/3 of it (when on the dog) is thin cord. I don’t think Floyd minds it on the back of his neck, but I can imagine if you had it on the throat it would be irritating. It also has the tendency to break hair!

3 & 4

Left: K9 Tactical Gear, Right: buckle bungie

The collar on the left is from K9 Tactical Gear and is a similar style to the one on the right. This collar is good because it has a wide strap all the way around, and doesn’t cause hair breakage like the antenna style collar. The downside is that some of the colour varieties (this one was kryptek black) can fade with use, as mine did, and others are more flexible. I hear that the green strap is too flexible to be used with winged contact points; the collar just tilts from side to side.

The downside to this collar is that if it gets wet, it holds moisture tight against the skin. My dog (prone to hotspots) got a hotspot this way, despite me rotating the collar around. Another downside to this collar is that the strap is TIGHT to get through the receiver. I have to use pliers to get the strap through the box on a mini educator. The bungee strap is flexible, it has give, but I think this niche could be filled better.

The collar on the right is a buckle bungee. This biothane collar strap is becoming more common, with Educator selling them and sending them out in the boxes with the collars now. The hair tie style bungie has some give to it, but not enough IMO. I had mine custom-made by Wilson Gun Dog Supply, and overall it’s a nicely made collar. The hole adjustments give you a wide variety of sizing options, and it can easily be taken on and off via the click buckle. This collar is also waterproof and won’t hold moisture against your dogs neck.

I mostly use the antenna style collar despite me trying each of the other collars, because I enjoy how easy it is to adjust. I slide the receiver to one side of the strap so I can take off the collar and flip it to one side or the other, without having a cord on Floyd’s throat. The only downside is that it has broken hair on Floyd’s neck which kinda sucks. If only there were a collar like this but which could avoid that problem 🤔🤔🤔

Sometime soon, I will be testing a new strap design that’s not yet on the market, and I’ll show y’all when I get it. Anyways, those are my reviews. If you have suggestions or cool collars to try out, send em my way
