when you think about it calliope is actually extremely clocky in her own way, because the look of a green skull monster is something that has been cemented as the look of lord english that everyone recognizes as such, so you can imagine how it must feel for her to look so akin to the most oppressively masculine figure in all of reality

from 2022 when i read homestuck through 2023 to around september i was the most insane vriska egg in the industry and it was making the weirdest fucking art happen. now i'm just a normal vriska, and i'm still making weird art, but god. you really had to be there.

i think straight up one of my favorite set pieces in all of homestuck is the chamber at the core of the battlefield where the tumor sits. where there's these stone tiles on the walls demarcating the aspects and lunar sways of the players of the session. a place that might have had another vitally important purpose in a proper session maybe

i maintain that the funniest writing decision hussie ever made with homestuck was building an entire readership on the back of somethingawful, being deliberately hostile towards shipping culture through the text itself, introducing a subset of characters who are meant to embody caricatures of internet user archetypes based on posting style, proceeding to begin telling a very deliberately queer story in the back half of the comic, setting up actual whole-hearted relationship drama, baiting the somethingawful posters to begin going into denial about "oh well this is surely just setup to troll the shippers again right guys???", introducing a new character and presenting them as part of that same internet user caricature subset that embodies a type of user whose existence homestuck is very explicitly responsible for, and, on the age-old question of "what is the somethingawful poster troll", answering with the refrain of fucking caliborn

the thing about sollux is that as a doom-bound character he is so extremely static. he does not go through any significant personal developments over the course of his entire story. he doesn't have an arc. yes he has several experiences of doom at a visceral level that informs his outlook on life because that's what a mage is, but he doesn't change, and that informs a lot of what doom is. where life is dynamic, doom is static. he's not a hero, he's the fucking IT guy

homestuck is a thematically transfeminine story by all conceivable metrics. that doesn't mean that there are no good non-transfem reads to be had (jane, dirk, aradia, nepeta, terezi, to name a few) but the dismantling of oppressive masculinity and breaking out of the roles put upon you by society are extremely core themes that are deeply intertwined with one another. some people just take the most "i am feel uncomfortable when we are not about me?" approach to media because they choose to use someone else's work as a means of self expression to the vast piss-taking of the work in question rather than actually digging into what the work is trying to say

there are very few homestuck characters who type entirely properly in terms of capitalization and punctuation outside of quirks and they all have different reasons:

rose, who has an entire faux-intellectual shtick she adheres to violently

dirk, who holds himself to stupid-high standards in a sort of funhouse mirror of rose

doc scratch, who has a narrative obligation to present as formal as possible

jane, who is a nuclear-level pedant

aranea, who is a bookish freak

vriska, who i have reason to believe would not have any reason to type like this outside of having read mindfang's journal at a young age

i think a lot of people still have yet to realize that they don't like june, they like jade. everyone tries to make june into jade but that's not june!! if you don't like john egbert you don't like june either

i think god tier outfits should look more personalized to specific people plus their specific classpect. it doesn't make sense for every heir to have a long windsock hood or have their outfit literally just be a shirt and pants. that is egbert heir-of-breath specific to me
