Aetheran Bestiary - Entry on Ascendants

time for non-fandom stuff lol

(this was sitting in my drafts for a bit and I eventually got the inspo to continue it)

There are plenty of mages in the Aether, but it is a rarity to see them transcend their limits in such a way as this.

Ascendants, as we call them, are human mages who've grown powerful and skilled enough to fuse their bodies with their magic, becoming demihuman elementals in the process. This usually only happens with long-lived mages, but there are some prodigies, such as High Lady Mackenzie, who became Ascendants at a relatively young age.

Those who have become Ascendants gain the ability to transform their bodies into the Aspects they use, allowing them to do different things depending on what magic they use. For example, a Wind Ascendant would be able to evade attacks by means of incorporeality, and an Earth Ascendant can gain increased physical strength by transforming their limbs into stone.

A select few, such as Mackenzie, have a tendency towards keeping the visual effects of their fusions visible in some way, whereas others prefer to keep them hidden. In Mackenzie's case, as a Crystal Ascendant, her right arm constantly remains crystallized by her own volition. She is also a Light Ascendant, but does not outwardly show its effects.

While we have only seen Ascendants gain their abilities from Aspect magic, it would not be unreasonable to assume it could occur with thaumaturgy and black magic as well. In the case of thaumaturgy, the likeliest outcome would be the mage gaining effects based on which deity they were gifted power by. The possible effects of a mage with black magic becoming an Ascendant are difficult for me to guess, but I know it wouldn't be anything good.

Soleil is a celestial, which is a race of angel-like beings descended from deities who are part of what is collectively known as the "Aetheran Pantheon"

Soleil is from the Aether Project, which at its core is a non-fandom science fantasy/high fantasy hybrid project based around the world that owes it its name, the Aether - however, the Aether Project also has multifandom potential!

Soleil is one of the personal emissaries for the Aetheran Pantheon's deities

To be truly understood, beyond the common niceties and digging into your very essence, is far more difficult than most would consider. Ephemeral and fleeting as mortal life is, people desperately cling to notions such as love and companionship, throwing themselves headfirst into failed courtship upon failed courtship until they found the right one. Zuleima is far too methodical to use that method, her time spent on her work even before she had left Eterna. It’s not surprising, then, that despite her ample experience in pleasures of the flesh born from the typical hedonism of Veilcrest, she had never known love well enough to identify when the seeds are planted or when they bloom. 

For now, she merely enjoys her time with Sakkara, not knowing the name of the warmth on her chest when she looks at the druid. 

“Alright, alright,” she sighs dramatically, straightening up as her hands fall on Sakkara's shoulders and she squeezes affectionately before stepping back and wandering around the room, eyes flickering around curiously until they inevitably fall back upon Sakkara once she speaks. “I doubt that the Queen will trust them either. Theirs are the hands that broke the world, and they don’t seem ready to negotiate. And with the Iskaran refugees receding in our lands… Well, I don’t believe the Aetheran’s will leave well enough alone.”

Sakkara was not particularly affectionate, nor was she opposed to affection. She had been used to Zuleima's for a while now, comforted by mere touch because it meant someone had not grown weary of her, nor been daunted by the eccentric ways of Keeper. In fact, Sakkara had never really been able to get rid of the dhampir. She had tried, at least in the very beginning when she had nothing to teach or to tell Zuleima.

The druid had never truly loved in her past lives - not romantically. There were children and there were students, mothers and father's that she had loved. And friends. Lovers had always been fleeting, nothing to burn a mark in her soul. For someone so old and wise, Sakkara did not foresee any lasting consequence to the tranquility of the Engineer's company. How could nature and technology ever find themselves on common ground?

"I am determined to understand on my own," she replied with a tiny grin. As much as technology confused her and held little place in her life, Zuleima had instilled in her a never-before-seen interest in learning. When speaking of Aetheron, all amusement faded away from Sakkara's expression. "For every magical creature that they liberated, 10 more have been killed or found worse fates. The Aetherons... one could never truly trust them. Not even before their fall and resurgence."

Aether Project - An Account of Asteria and Some Aetheran History

another non-fandom thing lol

Our world's capital, Asteria, is also its oldest city, and a place with plenty of history. It was founded by the first members of the Ambrose Family, who quickly set up its first organized government, a monarchy, and began the work of building up a proper settlement. Their bloodline has survived for many years, and their descendant, Mackenzie Ambrose, is the current High Lady of the White Court, ruling alongside her husband, Johannes Ashe.

To describe Asteria as beautiful would be quite an understatement. Much of the old architecture still remains, and it is actively and constantly maintained. There have been colorful everbloom trees planted in various places, and the forest surrounding the city is quiet and peaceful, perfect for escaping from life's business and noisiness.

Of course, with that being said, there have been... darker moments here. Asteria was also the site of the last of one of the most devastating battles of the Great Cataclysm, the war fought between the Four Highest and Nadira's forces. I was a participant in this war on behalf of the Columnae, and I still remember the sheer brutality of that particular conflict. The Columnae themselves were weakened, and yet... they still carried on and eventually won, sealing Nadira away for a time until she eventually broke free, starting her new reign of terror.

There are still scars left behind from that conflict. Others who are also old enough to remember it shudder with dread at the thought of the possibility of a second war between the Fallen Goddess and the Columnae, and those who have been taught about it are wary of the Traitor's power and abilities.

Asteria has memorials dedicated to teaching about the war, for those who are intrigued about history, like myself. Some prefer not to think about it, however, and I cannot blame them. I am not inclined to believe that a topic such as this is for the faint of heart, after all.

Nowadays, Asteria stands as a haven that welcomes people from all walks of life, and is well-protected from the Corrupted by the Silver Guard and Claritas Agency. Both do everything in their power to ensure the safety of the city's citizens, with the Guard always standing at the ready and the Agency constantly sending specialists out to actively hunt and purify the Corrupted.

Well, I do think I have said as much as I wished to say for now. I will continue updating this later.

💕-Solenaris and Eldest?

It was strange that the Eldest had gotten into a Courtship again, but what even stranger was the mate he had chosen; The Ghidorahs were very... Traditional when it came to who their mate was. Ghidorahs usually only courted other Ghidorahs, so when the Eldest had returned with a Mate from another Planet, it caused a bit of a stir. Of course, this stir only increased when the two had bore Offspring, that of the Aetheran-Ghidorah Hybrid Sons, Ajax and Castor. Ajax was a Ghidorah before an Aetheran, being born with 3 heads completely formed. His middle head, who responded to ‘Ajax the Middle’, retained the Golden Scales, but with Bright Azure Horns. The other two heads, ‘Ajax the Greater’ and ‘Ajax the Lesser’, retain the more traditional Aetheran Color, with a few streaks of Golden Scales about their neck, as well as the Golden (and sometimes black) horns that Ghidorahs are known for. Ajax the Middle’s Horns had a bit of a Rams’ Horns look to them, ending with a point at the bottom; Ajax the Greater has Ibex-like Horns, and Ajax the Lesser possesses two small Nub-like horns, which earned him his ‘lesser’ moniker. Ajax’s body, over all, possesses more of a Aetheran Look, being Quadropeds with 4 Giant Bat-like wings, the wings possessing cystal-like spines. Possessing Two Tails, the tails are tipped with 2 Aetherean Crystals, which continue to run up the back of the tails, getting taller and taller until it stops at the neck. The other son, Castor, is a bit of a strange one. Castor is more Aetherean, but, due to Ghidorah DNA, meant that he was going to have an extra head. So, instead of the usual 3, Castor was born with two, the other one he tentatively named ‘Pollux.’ Castor is much like his father in terms of body, resembling a more Wyvern-like Creature, with articulated hands at the end of each wing with Plantigrade Legs. Castor, the more Irritable Stick-in-the-mud head, has 1 horn on the right side of his head, the other horn being replaced with a Crystal. While the Crystal simply leans back, the Horn curves forwards, before splitting off near the tip, creating a strange ‘crescent shape’ at the tip of the horn. Crystals decorate Castor’s head, with Strange Dorsal Fin-like Crystals dotting the backside of his neck. Some crystals shine with a golden sheen. Pollux, the Irritable but Annoying head, resembles an Aetheran overall, with the Crystals on his head arcing Golden Electricity all the way down to the Diamond Shaped Crystal that is embedded in his chest.The Eldest would watch his two duel; A common sight at this point, as both were clearly trying to show who was the dominant, better brother to their father. The Eldest supposed that was the bit of him in the both of them, and he did find it oddly endearing. After a while, Castor would get the advantage on Ajax, having superior flight compared the clunkier flight of his brother.  “I YIELD, I YIELD!” Ajax the Lesser cried out, cowardice tainting his voice. “JUST PLEASE, NO MORE!” “Coward! You couldn’t even win a fight with a Butterfly if you tried!” The Greater would insult, causing The Lesser to start bursting into tears, crying out his admission of such an insult. Castor, growling, would let out a roar, trying to quiet down his Brothers’ heads. The Eldest would sigh, before picking up the both of them with other heads, bringing them up to his face.“While I admit your technique and skill has improved over the past month, you still need much practice. Which is why I try to make sure you two are paying attention, but, alas, whenever I look behind me, you two fight and bicker again. I would train you like my disciple, but, we all know that it won’t work with him as it will with you. Now, please, my sons, be quiet, and I shall teach you the great technique of ‘Strategy.’” The Eldest tried to persuade, before Pollux would shoot out a Gravity Beam at The Greater, giggling at the reaction the Head gave him. The Eldest sighed; Unsurprisingly, the father who had never had a father figure in his life doesn’t know how to parent. Go figure.
