hang on i'm having one (1) cogent thought. an eddie who is genre-savvy and narratively aware (he is, after all, a dungeon master.) an eddie who becomes increasingly aware throughout the season that he's marked for death, like max by vecna, but marked instead by the Narrative. an eddie who, while confessing "i always run away," already knows that "i'm not running anymore" will likely be his final words. an eddie who knew all along he was never graduating. he was dead from his first appearance. this is how tragedies work, and eddie knows this all too well.

#stranger things #stranger things spoilers #now i do not think the d*ffer brothers are well-versed enough in uhhhh good writing to have done anything like this on purpose #again their MO is 1) introduce character 2) kill character 3) profit off cheap narrative tricks #so i bet you at least $3.50 that this character's planning stage was 'who will we kill in the finale'#and 'how do we make them as lovable as possible so fans get mad'#which is--philosophically and narratively--Not Great? working backwards from the 'doomed to die' position?#however it does provide an interesting standpoint when your character is in fact a storyteller themself.#a tragically doomed character who realizes what kind of story they're in and the role they play #alas. too good for this oft-mediocre show i swear
