Patrick O’Brian very clearly went on a deep dive into world religions and theology right before writing The Letter of Marque because this has got to be some of the most obvious infodumping yet, and that’s saying a lot

#ah we're introducing weird gnostic sects and explaining how they relate to even weirder gnostic sects??? yeah someone was doing some reading #also i have in fact determined that adi the cook is yazidi and have gotten answers as to the clearly hyperbolic claims about his religion #the sethianism thing was truly mystifying though he really went wild there #happy for those guys but i am so so confused about like. everything going on there #theologically socially geographically etc etc #i will say that for all this post is framed mildly as a judgement i have been having a great time with this #authors should be allowed to infodump actually it makes their books so much better #perce rambles #aubreyad
