Oddest Airbnb Guest

About six months ago my husband and I started renting out spare room through Airbnb. This spare room features a double sized bed (that will not murder your legs if you have a neuropathy, but more on that another time), a desk, and lots of outlets! The worst AirBnB guest we’ve had was also one of the first.

There are optional questions Airbnb can automatically send to guests who are interested in booking with you, if you set your profile to send these questions. These questions are something  like, What is the Purpose of your Visit? and Who will be Traveling with You? At first, Bill and I did not bother requesting the guests answer these questions. But after a guest from Jersey City, we decided to have Airbnb send these questions.

George arrived from Jersey City on a Tuesday for a booking that lasted through Sunday. Five nights. He arrived an hour early, without asking if that were ok, and sent us an email with the question, "Where is the shower?" Granted he was not the last guest to ask that a question. 

I met George when I got home from work that evening. He was on the couch eating tacos and drinking water from a wine glass. I inquired about his visit and he said he wanted to see Los Angeles. 

George proceeded to spend the next five nights at the house, seemingly non-stop, aside from trips for tacos or to the drugstore. I showed him, that first day, where our outdoor patio space is located behind the house. There are two houses on my property. My husband and I live in the front house and rent out the spare room through Airbnb. Our super great tenants live in the back house.

Anyway George stayed with us the five nights and barely left the house. Aside from wine glasses, he used Bill's nice whiskey glass and the cocktail glass I bought years ago in Peru. All for water. Odd, but not an offense. 

The day after George left, he gave us a review on Airbnb. It seems too quick! Try as I might, I could not think of a good review to leave for him, so I did not submit anything. It was too weird. The weirdest visitors never leave the house. And use the nicest glasses for water.

Weeks passed and I was hanging out with my tenants on the patio. Aaron tells me the person who fit George's description, tall, short cut hair, was smoking weed on the patio with three other people one night. Aaron came upon them and yelled at them, saying, "You can't do that here!" He was right. George said in response, "I am an Airbnb guest!" Not cool.

I was pretty mad and also relieved in a small way that I did not know about this offense at the time. It would have been super awkward to have him remain, after clearly violating the rule we set out of No Drugs. Better to just be confused by the AirBnBdays-body-ness and use of the finest glassware.

Olive Garden has this great thing to do concerning their menu. Olive Garden allows their customers to be creative by selecting what kind of noodles and sauces they have.
