Fast & Furious business As Canada’s largest race simulation venue, TracksVR Virtual Racing Inc. opened its doors in 2018, in Calgary, Alberta, by Howard Trawick, the visionary founder and his wife (co-partner), out of passion for car racing and virtual reality. His deeply ingrained love of car racing started while growing up in Alberta at an era when there were many more car racing activities and events. He was hooked ever since and naturally progressed through a 25-year career in the car industry. They have got a lot of wizardry going on in the background. They can start all the machines at the same time, and everyone can race on the same track simultaneously. Thus, adding that additional level of immersion for all race drivers. With the VR headsets, everywhere you look, the generated world is there, and especially in racing, that is paramount. With a VR headset, you can turn your head anywhere and you are still fully immersed in the experience. This unique technology enables them to do streaming and eSports. Excellent customer service is a major factor in their competitive advantage quiver, as they not only say it, they actually live it and breath it, day in and day out. As they bid their patrons goodbye when leaving: “don't drive out there like you did in here.” . . . . #calgary #calgarynow #calgarylife #yycnow #yyctoday #yyclocal #calgarybusiness #alberta #virtualreality #shoplocalalberta #carracing #supportalbertabusiness #businessinalberta #smallbusinessalberta #albertabusinessowner #albertabusinesses #albertabusinesswomen #albertabusiness #albertasmallbusinesses #albertasmallbusiness #albertastrong #albertaviews #albertamade #sylvanlakealberta #sylvanlake #reddeer #reddeeralbertacanada (at Calgary, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAiqk3Ypj59/?igshid=m0n2pfyndpmp

"We live in times of high stress. Messages that are simple, messages that are inspiring, messages that are life-affirming, are a welcome break from our real lives." -- Simon Sinek 🌅 Repost @harvard_business_review • • • • • • Have you been spending too much time staring at a screen lately? Though video chat apps and other technologies connect us while we work remotely, they can also cause mental, emotional, and muscle fatigue. Finding ways to proactively disconnect throughout your day can help you maintain and regain your energy. Here are five ways to take a break from your screen: 1) Don’t default to video. If a meeting doesn’t need it, consider other options. A phone call will often work just fine. 2) Block out time on your schedule where you’re not available for meetings. This can temper how much virtual communication you have each day. Set aside most of a morning or afternoon, or block out a few one-hour chunks of time throughout the day. 3) Choose physical over digital where you can. Brainstorming for an article? Write out your thoughts on paper. Creating a road map for a big project? Sketch the initial draft on a whiteboard. Reading a book? Pick up a print copy. 4) To counteract the fatigue caused by sitting rigidly in front of your computer, move around as much as you can. In between meetings, take a walk to the kitchen to refill your water or coffee. When you need a quick break, do a few simple movements like rolling your shoulders to get the blood flowing. 5) Take tech-free breaks over lunch and find activities to do that don’t involve a screen at the end of the day. Stepping away from technology not only gives your brain a break; it also gives you the added bonus of perspective. — Adapted from "5 Tips to Reduce Screen Time While You’re WFH," by Elizabeth Grace Saunders. "We learned not to meet anymore, We don't raise our eyes to one another, But we ourselves won't guarantee What could happen to us in an hour." -- Anna Akhmatova ☀ Repost @harvard_business_review • • • • • • A good agenda is the first step to any successful meeting. If you want to make the best use of everyone’s time, turn your bullet points into questions that drive to the outcomes you’re looking for. For example, instead of a general topic like “Budget Problems,” try a specific question like, “How will we reduce our spending by $100,000 by the end of the fiscal year”? Or replace an item like “Strategic Planning” with a challenge like, “What is the key market threat we need to be aware of, how could it affect us, and what can we do to anticipate?” Preparing these questions before the meeting will make it easier to determine who should be there and how much time you’ll really need. Ultimately, a questions-based approach to your agenda can bring focus, engagement, and better performance to your meetings. And if you can’t think of questions to ask, maybe you don’t need that meeting after all! Adapted from “How to Create the Perfect Meeting Agenda,” by Steven G. Rogelberg. “Work to become, not to acquire." —Elbert Hubbard 👸👮 Repost @harvard_business_review • • • • • • It’s common to think that you should focus on one job obsessively to excel and position yourself for the next role. But such single-mindedness can actually hold you back from discovering your niche. There are ways to expand your knowledge, skills, and connections outside "work" in ways that can help you build, or rebuild, your career. This goes beyond attending conferences or even taking classes; it requires meaningful engagement in outside activities, such as board membership, teaching, serving the public, mentoring start-ups, and leading associations or clubs. But how can you find the opportunities that are right for you? First, spread the word among your trusted contacts that you’re looking for outside activities or roles relevant the skills you want to build. Explore your passions and see if groups connected to them have any open positions that would give you a chance to learn and develop. Seek out friends and colleagues who already have meaningful roles, side gigs, or volunteer work and offer to help them. Get your name, interests, and expertise out there through public speaking, social media, and publishing so that people start presenting possibilities to you. After this period of exploration and experimentation, you’ll want to be highly selective about the roles you commit to seriously. Ensure, too, that you’re picking a role in which you can really make a worthwhile contribution. That way, you'll be uniquely qualified and it will be well worth your time. — Adapted from "The Strategic Side Gig," by Ken Banta and Orlan Boston. "The blockchain is going to change everything more than the Internet has." -- Brock Pierce 🔥 Repost @forbes • • • • • • Tesla and BMW are taking the lead in innovating a supply chain renaissance with blockchain. In the past week, BMW released details about their project called PartChain that utilize blockchain technology in its logistics operations. Tesla Inc was involved with a blockchain pilot project that provided improved sea waybill information and thus efficiencies for all participants in the project ran by a large shipping consortia. The benefits driven from using blockchains, like improved cost savings, enhanced traceability and increased transparency, are strong drivers for such innovations. 🔗 in bio to learn more. Sometimes clear/unclear communications could be a make or brake situations 🔥 Repost @harvard_business_review • • • • • • The language we use is essential to capturing the attention, trust, and praise of our audience. But especially in times of crisis, we must pay extra attention to the words we choose to convey our message. The wrong ones could spark fear, while the right ones have the potential to facilitate clarity, calm, and positive action. To master this skill — the skill of choosing the right words — there are a few best practices you can apply to your speech. 1) First, replace long words with short ones. This is especially true during a crisis, when attention spans are flagging and noise levels are high. People are being bombarded by information, some of it false. The clearer and more concise you are, the better chance you will have to get your message across. 2) Use analogies. When presented with a new idea, our brains don’t ask, “What is it?” They ask, “What is it like?” Leaders who are great crisis communicators use analogies to explain complex events and persuade people to act quickly. 3) Personalize the crisis. The human brain is also wired for storytelling. Effective communicators use stories to illustrate their most powerful points, educate, and inspire their audiences. 4) Stick to the rule of three. If you give people three instructions, they’re likely to remember them all. Give them five, six, or more, and they’ll probably forget most of them. People can’t act on what they can’t remember. So, if you want people to act on what you say, limit your advice. — Adapted from "Finding the Right Words in a Crisis," by Carmine Gallo. "I’ll be in my bedroom, making no noise and pretending I’m not there." — Harry Potter 🏠 Funny... yet most beffiting in these trying times 💥 Repost @forbes • • • • • • Last year’s highest-paid author J.K. Rowling has reportedly purchased and is renovating her childhood home, which is said to have inspired many of the elements of her 'Harry Potter' series—one of the best-selling media franchises of all time—with its vaulted ceilings, a trap door and even a cupboard under the stairs. The author lived in the house with her family when she was between the ages of 9 and 18 and famously wrote "Joanne Rowling slept here circa 1982,” onto a bedroom wall in the cottage. Now, she gets to call the cottage home again.
