And I said, ‘What’s the role?’ And he said, ‘Well, it’s a coked-up drug fiend on a shotgun rampage.’ And I thought, Well, I’ve never done that before.” So was born his unforgettable turn as drug dealer Rahad, who Dirk and Reed’s even dumber friend Todd (Thomas Jane) tries extremely unsuccessfully to rip off. The surreal sequence is made even more so by the sound of firecrackers going off inside the dealer’s house—which after a few days was driving everyone, except Molina, insane. The English actor explained that he kept one ear plugged and there was an earwig in the other so he could hear the dialogue. “The guys were constantly jumping out of their skins,” he recalled, “but Rahad, my character, was completely still.” Wahlberg told Grantland that the dealer part was originally supposed to be played by Sean Penn. Paul Thomas Anderson's breakthrough film is a reworking at feature length of a short film he made in 1988, and it has the earmarks of what was to come from him as writer-director: complex narratives with large casts, featuring some of the same actors from film to film. It also launched Mark Wahlberg out of his career as a rapper and underwear model into success as a film actor and producer. Wahlberg plays a naïve layabout who gets into the porn business under the screen name Dirk Diggler. He is mentored by the filmmaker Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds) and by the actress Amber Waves (Julianne Moore), who acts as a kind of den mother for the various porn stars under Horner's aegis. The camaraderie of this little company is tested by the passage of time, as the feel-good 1970s turn into the anxious 1980s.

Alfred Wahlberg (Feb. 13, 1834 - 1906) was a Swedish painter. He originally studied music at the Royal Conservatory in Stockholm, but always also painted on the side. When he realized he could sell his work, he moved to Düsseldorf to study art there, and later to Paris.

He basically kept to a late National Romantic aesthetics which was popular and brought him a steady income and recognition. He became a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy despite never having studied there, and his work is in museums in several countries. This is a typical moonlight composition from Göteborgs Konstmuseum:
