(Minor spoilers for the newest sumeru archon quest (just the alhaitham & kaveh conversation part))
You know, I kinda hate characters like alhaitham but after rereading the latest OCMC! Chapter and finishing the archon quest, I have undeniably grown a little soft spot for him. At first, it was because of that fountain scene in OCMC! . That fact that he threw most of his life behind to fulfill that promise with capo is really funny considering the fact that he was the one who thought how ridiculous the idea was when it was first proposed to him, yet he is also the one who continued to wait for them even after it became obvious that capo wasn't coming back, so he said "fuck it" and went to actually join the mafia in hopes of meeting them again. The idea is so absurd for a man like Alhaitham who is known to be rational to a fault but it's also so endearing to see him stumble through a life that isn't ideal for him just to stay with a person that doesn't even remember the promises and memories shared between them. Am I a hopeless romantic at heart? Most probably but so is he. Respect
Then archon quest came and gave the cutest interaction between him and Kaveh. He's so lively when conversing with him that I wished there were more interactions between them so we could see him act like that more often :( Also the fact that he teases Kaveh left me in shock cause I thought he was like, the stoic serious dude that never made jokes. But hyv has proved me wrong and I no longer know what to think of this man.
Tl;dr: Alhaitham's slowly worming his way into my heart and I want him to stop cause it would make killing him slightly harder and more painful. Am still aiming for the tighnari route but I'm like, 99% sure he needs to die for it to happen so please don't make me attached to him more than I already am </3
Major OCMC Chapter 3 & 3.2 Archon Quest Spoilers:
HDJSIAKOA YEP–
I don't usually like characters like Alhaitham who is all "facts don't care abt your feelings" but when I played through the archon quest, that impression of mine changed. He DOES care about human emotions (like that time he respectfully waited for the girl to come out of the house and personally tell the traveler where the mad scholars were), it's just that he has a strange way of showing it. He honestly has a sweet side, but his bluntness gets in the way severely.
If mafia!Alhaitham read this message he'd probably say something along the lines of:
"I didn't quit my job because of (N/n)– I just figured that they were right. Working for the bank was not for me. There is less autonomy to be had if you're strictly following a rule-abiding citizen's life." and other jokes Alhaitham tells himself.
He thinks he's sane compared to Tighnari and Cyno (and especially Diluc–) and would continue to do so... Even if at one point that logic becomes nothing more than a delusion.
If you don't want to be attached, then why not choose the choices that'll kill him : ) ???
Anyways, I still can't get over how I missed the extra dialogue between Kaveh and Alhaitham because I teleported in port ormos instead of walking out of the room.
Kaveh-Alhaitham dynamic is such a fun thing to read & write about lmao. I did not expect that Kaveh is the senior between them lolololol. Even in this fic I can't separate the two. I just HAD to sneak in that Alhaitham broke into Kaveh's house before lmaooo– Alhaitham literally has beef with almost every LI but his worst rival is hilariously enough, still Kaveh. Even though Kaveh is just a church architect (who also distrusts the church) here, our double agent can't easily win against him
