Do NOT install Windows 10 Creators update download, Microsoft warns some users

A new urgent Microsoft message has been released, urging users without a tech background to avoid downloading the new Windows 10 Creators update manually

  The new patch has been available for two weeks now but Microsoft is wary of those who may not know enough about the update to be able to work through the general issues when installing the code.

This is due to the fact that older machines may not be compatible with the Windows 10 patch, running the risk of creating big issues for those who go ahead and download it.

The tech giant has removed the automatic upgrade option from PCs that they think may struggle, although that hasn’t barred access entirely.

Owners can still find and manually download the Windows 10 Creators Update, leading John Cable, director of program management for Windows servicing and delivery, to offer this advice.

“Blocking availability of the update to devices we know will experience issues is a key aspect of our controlled rollout approach.

“We decide what to block based on user impact, and blocking issues are a high priority for us to address as quickly as possible. During the time it takes to address an issue, we want to limit the number of customers exposed to that issue.

“It’s important to note that when customers use the Software Download Site to manually install the Creators Update they bypass many of these blocks.

“Therefore, we continue to recommend (unless you’re an advanced user who is prepared to work through some issues) that you wait until the Windows 10 Creators Update is automatically offered to you.

“When your device becomes eligible for the Creators Update rollout, you’ll be prompted to make some important choices on your privacy settings before the Creators Update can install.”

One known issue flagged by Microsoft is connected to Broadcom Bluetooth LE radios, which sees connection problems when running alongside the Creators Update.

“Our feedback process identified a Bluetooth accessory connectivity issue with PCs that use a specific series of Broadcom radios, ultimately resulting in devices not reconnecting as expected,” Cable added.

“Once identified, we posted this issue to our Windows community forum, provided user guidance on troubleshooting, and blocked additional devices with these specific Bluetooth radios from updating.

The update includes a number of features targeted at business users, including improvements to Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection designed to protect users against network attacks.

It follows the news that Windows 10 was blocked by hugely-popular anti-virus software Webroot earlier this week.

The security program pushed-out a flawed signature update on Monday that mistakenly targeted hundreds of crucial Windows files – incorrectly identifying them as malware.

  Webroot closed and blocked the critical system files – crippling Windows 10 machines.

The anti-virus targeted all versions of Microsoft’s latest operating system, including Windows 10, Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and Windows 10 Creators Update, which rolled-out earlier this month.

The glitch hit both business customers and consumers running Windows.

However when I updated my main machine. An Asus/ Intel I7 3770k/ 16G Ram etc.. It all went to hell. Edge would not connect to the internet, No way to fix it. I had to remove the update. @orderic If you mean you’ve switched to Android then you obviously only use computers for entertainment. Android is great for fun, but totally rubbish for productivity compared to Windows. I’ve never had a crash in Windows 10 as I didn’t with Windows 8 or 8.1. I use heavy graphics software daily. 8 days ago Johnny_BGood Beware uploading the Creator update. I had countless problems last weekend following upload. Stopped me accessing the login prompt screen. Finally, after a day of trying and failing to load a clean trouble free copy of Windows 10, I succumbed to a factory reset which took me back to Windows 8.1. At least I won’t be suffering any further Windows 10 updates. ReplyShare+1
